Warning:
This film features a revised version of the song Brotherhood in Arms.
The original lyrics were written by the poet Haรฏm Gouri in 1947.
This version, which was not written by the author,
completely distorts the original song and the poet's intent.
The filmmakers used the altered version of the song,
despite strong objections expressed by the Gouri family.
I. THE GOOD LIFE
Y!
Y!
Y!
The chief of general staff.
Song battle!
Let the chief of general staff win.
You are my destiny and I am yours.
Your destiny is mine.
The Pillars of Society.
George Grosz, Berlin, 1926.
YES
In my fantasy,
you do everything with your foot.
We had just met.
He hadn't even touched my tits.
Sorry to say...
Yasmine!
He's going to vomit.
โ Pull over! โ It's the highway!
He's gonna puke!
So, your tits?
I was wearing Dries Van Noten overalls.
Secondhand.
Listening to me talk about my dead father and brother,
he pictured his mother dying, and began to weep.
Your folks die and he cries?
Right.
A thunderclap over prosciutto.
With all the tears, he wolfs down a slice,
and the fat sticks in his throat.
Ten minutes after we meet, my hand's in his gullet.
Prosciutto under my nails.
I pull and pull.
In my heart, I whisper,
"Don't fall in love."
"Don't fall in love."
Love.
In my ear.
You too.
Inside.
Deeper.
I arrived at 7:30.
So it's a half-hour more.
From the 1st note, the lullaby conjures up his mom,
who died in Oncology at Hadassah Hospital
before the baby was born.
When the suffering was unbearable, she told him, "Kill me."
He begged the doctors to do it.
Since the war broke out, she's come back to talk to him.
What would she say about October 7?
The Gaza bloodbath?
The city draped in flags?
Neighbors' sons going to fight?
Everyone he knew volunteering to support the war effort?
He hoped she would understand
that they were terrified, confused, terrorized.
But he knew she wouldn't.
The occupiers' tears disgusted his mother.
And what would she say about him?
Turn the radio on?
Let's listen to the silence.
Where are my sunglasses?
Where'd you put them? Put them back in the same place.
Me?
Keep them where they belong and you'll find them.
I put them in the drawer. Look in there!
And bring baby's funny socks, the ones with cheetahs.
Not cheetahs, little bell peppers.
But he loves them, so who cares!
Who cares!
Good Tel Aviv.
Good tree.
Good boy.
Good lady.
Good soldier.
Good limping man.
Good scooter.
Good soldier.
Good man.
Another good soldier.
A ninja turtle.
Good morning!
Morning.
Palestinian sources report 94 people died
in this morning's bombing of Gaza.
A 5-story building has collapsed.
Dozens of people are buried under the rubble.
An Army spokesperson said it is doing its best
to reduce innocent civilian casualties.
I believe the Army.
I had fun.
We had way more fun!
Come join our Independence Day cruise.
Politicians, top brass, etc.
You're number 1!
A bombshell!
Lobe's dripping.
Joy!
Sadness.
Joy with a drop of sadness.
When you're little, you feel grown-up.
Growing up is a crime.
People walk one way, you walk the other.
You say, "I despise you.
"Worship me."
I was proud to say,
"No!"
Who knew bravery was saying...
"Yes."
Yes, yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
There are only two words in the world.
Yes.
No.
Which do you choose?
My little Noah
Good morning
to you
The death toll in Beit Lahiya
has risen to 93, according to medical sources in Gaza.
The raid struck a building
housing 200 people.
The Army has announced it's investigating the incident.
What personality!
What charm!
His Wikipedia page will read
"Noah, born October 8, 2023,"
"one day after the disaster."
Noah, that's the sea.
Give up, my baby.
Give up to the sea.
Give up to 25ยฐC in late November.
To flavorsome vegetables.
To t-shirts in winter.
Smile at people and give up to that smile.
Give up, my son.
As early as possible.
Submission
is happiness.
76 years since the Independence of Israel
and the war goes on, as we speak.
Guess what, this ain't Europe
This is Israel, get used to it
Guess what, this ain't Europe
We're shaking up the Middle East
Welcome!
Happy Independence Day!
Avinoam.
Y.
Y?
Ah, Y.
You look in great shape.
Since the massacre, I run the general staff's PR.
Awesome!
โ What a war online! โ And me, on the piano.
The BBC? Antisemitic.
CNN?
Antisemitic.
The New York Times?
Antisemitic.
The Pompidou Center?
Antisemitic.
We've got a hit on our hands.
Even the audience hates Israel.
It's war.
Each one of you
has a secret that would get you killed on the spot,
if I were to reveal it.
Who never got hard at the sight of an underage girl?
We've got a war, at least.
What have you got?
You've got nothing.
We're setting sail
All aboard!
Avinoam, I wanted to be the greatest, meanest pianist in Jewish history.
Wait!
Can we?
Patience
You were saying?
I said, "Hi, I'm Israel's second best pianist. After myself."
It was a joke.
Sleepless nights.
Ever stay awake for 115 hours?
I didn't want to be a pianist.
I wanted to be the piano!
Avinoam.
โ PR guru. โ Come aboard.
Only let the bird in.
Y, the comic.
Bravo to the Army!
Bravo to the Army!
Long live the state of Israel!
And Yasmine?
Cool.
She worked for me once.
Really?
A tigress in a cage.
She rubbed against the bars.
Like, what the fuck?
Give me your phone.
Sent it to you.
Is that you, 052 45...
The whole massacre's in here.
All the horror!
I have in there the worst video...
No.
A video nobody has seen.
With the baby...
The little girl...
Her throat slit? Beheaded? Burned?
Eye gouged out?
Gutted? Chopped her hand off?
Cut up her vagina? With an ax?
In the oven?
Please, don't.
โ Watch. โ No, no.
โ Watch! โ No, Avinoam!
โ Watch! โ No, no!
Did you know you can see the bombing of Beirut from here?
Seriously?
"Seriously?"
I have a video of an enormous explosion.
A fucking huge explosion!
I filmed it from the bow.
Today, you'd need binoculars.
Check out the party. If you find binoculars, bring them.
Don't rip them off anyone. Be polite.
Look after him.
Lemon mousse!
Lemon mousse...
Have mercy, mom!
Thanks.
All good?
They're on dessert.
Anyway, being an artist after 40 is repugnant.
For the ninja soldiers!
Ninja Turtles
Ninja Turtles
Our green, gun-toting heroes
They terrorize the bad guys
Our ninja heroes, all in green
The coolest turtles the world's ever seen
Ninja turtles
Ninja turtles
Cowabunga!
Save Your people
And bless Your land
Yasmine?
Say the word and we will do it
Until the end of time
The Israeli people, the Israeli people The Israeli people is alive
The Israeli people is still alive
Infinite thanks, our blessed God
Infinite thanks, our blessed God
Thank you, our Lord
Thank God for His divine mercy
Where were you?
Thank God for His divine mercy
For His grace is eternal
Come on!
Hold still.
Cheers!
Take a look at that beauty.
You slept with them?
I'm on my period.
Made out with them?
When God said for the first time,
"Let there be light!"
He did not intend to remain in darkness.
He was not yet thinking of heaven.
But the trees
had already begun to soak up water.
And the birds...
had begun to receive air
and their bodies.
He's a tech and fintech mogul.
He sold 50% of his stock
to her.
No...
Her.
He's her partner. Most likely he'll buy her out.
How do you know?
Baby, don't you keep up on finance?
A start-up to intercept drones.
The war made him a star.
Here comes the general staff.
Happy Independence Day, baby.
There he is!
Let's make history, my prince.
Yes, yes, yes, yes!
Always chasing after the sun
Always chasing after the light
The sun draws a bird
That sings in my heart
Always chasing after the sun
Always chasing after the light
The sun draws a bird
That sings
in my heart.
Y!
Come on!
Our grandson
has his final math exam.
He's smart but he's in a kind of breakdown.
His name's Ari.
Ari.
Y.
Ari!
First one to smile loses.
People richer than God.
Careful, it's got bones.
A bit more.
Chicken?
Steak.
I want to kill our parents.
Some are already dead.
Lucky them.
โ Here we go again. โ I can't stand it.
They bring us into the world, then try to annihilate us.
You know of a bigger crime?
They sold us a world that doesn't exist, so we'd be weak like them.
And sad.
Are you sad, Y?
I keep having the same dream over and over, for 30 years.
Do the math.
If only I'd slept with as many women.
They don't know what they're missing.
What do you think about when we...
How can we be happy like this?
So what is this dream, Y?
Ah, the dream.
I never tell you?
About the kid?
Yes.
Thousands of times, my love.
Want to hear it?
Sure.
A little child.
Only just born.
He's being taught a language.
A language that doesn't exist.
That nobody speaks or will ever speak.
I'm teaching him.
Tricking him.
In a non-existent language, he says,
"If I try hard, I'll succeed."
The child speaks his first word
that doesn't exist.
Nonsense.
What emotion!
Hear that?
A woman just ordered the whole menu.
She told the waitress, "Bring me everything."
Her?
Not her.
Her.
Not mom, the daughter.
The child grows up.
Every day, he learns more non-existent words.
He makes meaningless sentences.
He's a good boy, Yasmine.
He learns the grammar.
Grammar with no validity.
Rules without rules.
He says, "Please,
"can someone help me?
"My ball's stuck in the tree.
"Help me!"
The dream torments you. Will it ever go away?
I want chewing gum.
Think anyone has some?
Sorry, I'm too tired to ask.
We'll be rich.
Six-figure rich.
We'll be loved and rich.
Because this land will be good.
From evil will come good.
We'll be good.
I promise you.
Look at the sea, my love.
I'm sick of the sea.
Listen to it,
talking to you.
It says, "You'll have it all.
"And anything you don't want,
"you'll spit back to me."
Yasmine.
Check your phone.
โ For a birthday? โ No, the massacre.
The war.
A ceremony. "From Destruction to Redemption."
The boutique hotel is opening specially for us.
The chef's cooking meals to order.
For us as well, us as well.
We'll ask for a family suite.
A suite with a sauna in the room.
He pays in euros. What rate's the euro?
The shekel's still tanking?
Know who was over there?
There's a photo of Johnny Depp
with Amber Heard,
embracing before their...
I read that they went with Elon Musk.
Turn it off.
I wonder if you're Musk's type.
A teacher at hip-hop sleeps with rich dudes.
I'll ask her advice.
A hooker?
She swallows, rims their asses...
They humiliate you. Lots of guys are into that.
Sex is easy.
What's fucking?
Why are you crying?
Because of the war?
No.
It's joy. Emotion.
Why does joy make you cry?
He sent me something else.
A new anthem for a new Israel.
"An anthem for the victory generation."
For Israel?
For me to set to music.
Your wish is my command, Mephisto!
He knows you're a clown?
A clown? Me?
I'm a pianist, Yasmine.
Thank you, Avinoam!
How much will he pay?
I know who'll be wearing Chanel.
That's it.
You'll accept?
What? Say no?
Black and white, number 4.
50 cents.
There's a discount for artists' organizations.
I don't think so.
A discount for artists, directors...
Right, 10% with a membership card.
Don't you recognize me, clerk?
Can you read this, please?
Me?
Say yes or no.
Over the beach of Gaza falls the Autumn night
Planes are bombing Destroy, destroy
Tsahal's brave soldiers cross the front line
To wipe out those bearers of swastikas
Amen.
Have a good evening.
II. THE PATH
To the sound of his beloved Monk, Y drove east.
On a road open to Israelis and forbidden to Palestinians.
To his left, he saw Ofer prison.
1,000 Palestinians detained without trial.
Inmate 343 is in his cell.
Motherfuckers, free inmate 343!
To his right, a high wall and behind it, Palestine.
At the checkpoint, he tells the soldier who, like all Israelis,
can instantly tell a Jew from an Arab,
"Hi, good afternoon."
And she understands that he said, "Jew like you."
A Jew passes, a non-Jew stops.
This guy's a Jew. He's not.
Jew, non-Jew...
Jew, non-Jew...
Over the beach of Gaza falls the Autumn night
Planes are bombing Destroy, destroy
Tsahal's brave soldiers cross the front line
To wipe out those bearers of swastikas
I can make you disappear just like that...
It's not easy to love you guys.
Destroy
those bearers
of swastikas
In one year
there'll be nothing living down there
Exterminate
Love
Love sanctified
with blood
You have limits, you whore?
Alright, I'm home.
What will you be wearing? You still look the same?
Same height, different skin.
Crow's feet and neck wrinkles?
Bags under your eyes?
You didn't see my photos?
Memory?
Perfect, except for words.
You urinate often?
Before the film and in the middle.
Erection?
Hey, Y!
My daughter. She swiped my phone.
Hey, beautiful.
You're limping?
I fell.
I'll go eat at one of the hotels.
Hamburger.
You haven't changed.
Funny guy.
Same spark, you lark.
I got my ears pinned.
Where are you at?
With what?
Who are you, Lea?
I translate technical texts for a cereal producer
about cereals.
Forget it, I'm joking.
My mom teaches English, remember?
At high school, Hadassa taught me French.
I hated her.
Well, she's dead.
My daughter's father taught me Spanish.
Last time I wrote you, he'd moved in with me here.
"Y, finally, I'm happy."
The next ten years, I'm not falling in love.
Before the war, I did interpreting
for overseas businessmen.
I planned to learn Chinese.
The war stopped all that.
I redeployed in propaganda.
Me too.
"We're right, we're good, we suffer."
We're victims.
I translated into six languages the horrors we endured.
First six months, I posted them online daily.
Wake me up at night, I'll recite them in Portuguese.
People told me, "It'll never leave you.
"It'll haunt your dreams.
"You'll never be free of it."
I replied, "Who cares? It's the end anyway."
โ Who is it? โ Yasmine.
No.
No!
You still hear the piano?
Or are your ears blocked?
You've turned mean.
Thirty years, waiting to see your fingers again.
Don't upset me.
Lea! Lea! Lea!
Where's the piano?
Ma'am!
Fuck, we didn't pay!
Don't shoot!
Ages since I did this!
Security!
Straight on!
Straight on.
In the next hour, the word "proximity" was uttered three times.
"Distance" 22 times.
"Time" again and again.
"Piano" only once.
"Israel" never.
Y spoke of "love" and "desire" sometimes interchangeably.
Lea mentioned "friendship", "disappointment",
"waste", "failure" and "broken heart."
And so on, and so on.
And silence.
In silence, they crossed Israel from east to west.
From the Dead Sea to the Gaza border.
From the sea of death to hell.
Lea recalled their youth.
Y shut his eyes.
Lea said, "I'm beginning to smell death."
Y dreamed it was a beautiful day.
He slept.
I need it.
I understand.
โ I really need it. โ I so understand.
Miki, I need it now!
Baboons.
Every other gym pays on the 10th of the month.
Yasmine, our family firm goes back 30 years.
Please. Be nice.
How?
I've never been nice.
Where to, Y?
Straight on.
It's the border soon.
Why?
Because I want to see.
Why?
Why? Why? Why?
I see how you look at me.
You think I don't?
Like I'm a loser who needs support,
pretending she's all good when nothing's good.
While you glide on.
Living a tiny part of life,
but thinking you arrow through the whole thing.
Despising those who made less of it or made more of it.
Despising everyone, in fact.
You get 5% of life. Your whole life's a misunderstanding.
You're the real loser, not me.
You.
Truth is, you were too heavy.
And you, too light. Look out there, you're flying away.
Did I hurt you?
I was right back then.
We'd never have worked out.
I think you came to my first ever recital.
At the conservatory, when I was seven.
A Bach minuet.
I was made to wear a ruffled shirt.
White, was it?
I was so happy.
โ So happy talking about you. โ Me?
If I said I'm in a personal, artistic and moral crisis,
as deep as a crater,
and Yasmine and my son have no idea where I am,
would you believe me?
All I know is that I have to love.
Love you.
Love the neighbor.
The view from the window.
And yourself?
You love yourself?
I'm my life's greatest disappointment.
Text the nanny.
There's no code. Noa the nanny.
"Hey, sweetie, how you doing?
"I'll be an hour late.
"Maybe more."
Quit Waze. I know the way.
I just wanted to be sure the road wasn't closed.
I was a trekking guide in the army.
Tourist asks guide, "Is this cave dangerous?
"Are there any bats?"
Guide replies, "Don't worry, the snakes got them."
You're wonderful.
But we didn't all serve in the military band.
My fingers saved me.
Along with my cowardice and mother.
Mom said to me, "Go serve in Tsahal's orchestra.
"Let the neighbors' sons get killed."
You keep quoting your mother.
Black Arrow Memorial, nearly there.
A soldier died here recently. An accident.
Aiming at Gaza, but the round went off in his hands. He was 33.
I know every casualty's story.
Who? How? When? Why?
Ask me.
So many dead.
What a nightmare.
And theirs?
I just saw a video of over there, dogs gutting corpses.
Devouring their entrails.
Or...
carrying off human remains.
A dog with a kid's leg in its muzzle.
โ A dog with a girl's head... โ Stop, Lea.
Don't they bury them?
Not enough time.
Can't breathe.
I can't breathe, you whore!
My check or I staple your eye!
โ Untie me and you'll get it. โ Checkbook!
Here comes a piercing!
On the desk. Can't you see it?
Yasmine Mauzner.
15,500 shekels.
Sign.
I'll pay in two installments, I promise.
โ I need it all. I'm gone. โ Seriously?
Sign.
Those lips of yours!
Just up to the vantage point.
Why?
Permit.
What permit?
If you had one, you wouldn't ask.
You've made him sad.
Want a good view of Gaza, bro?
Try the Hill of Love.
Over by Sderot?
Five minutes from here.
Before it's dark.
Love...
Can I bum a smoke?
The Hill of Love, should've thought of that.
Families came for picnics to watch the bombs fall.
Pull over, will you?
Tell me about sorrow, Lea.
Happiness wasn't part of the plan in creation.
It's important.
My sorrow? You know it. Lea who never made it...
Not yours.
Not yours.
Tell me...
about the stories you post every day.
Please.
It's not like at the beginning. I charge for it now.
Lea, I need it.
I need it now.
Tell me.
Tell me what happened on October 7.
Two children,
two little brothers,
seven and ten,
hiding with their father in a panic room...
I didn't find a good translation for panic rooms.
They lit a fire to force them out.
Shot the father. The older boy lost an eye.
They went inside, opened the fridge.
and said, "We're thirsty. Bring us Coke."
To the kids whose parents had been shot, they said,
"Don't worry, we don't shoot children."
They left them with the corpses.
So a 9-year-old calls the police.
"Mom and dad are dead." The cop says, "You're putting me on."
And a girl whose parents were killed
has a gun pointed at her, and says, "I have school tomorrow."
And the kids they murdered. The one tied to his dad and burned.
And the elderly couple, this one ends well.
They hid in the panic room, clinging to the door handle,
the man trembling with Parkinson's.
A fire was lit, so they pissed on rags
to cover their faces against the smoke.
But really a crack in the wall let the smoke escape.
The 80-year-old woman
who played dead under her bed.
When they thought it was all over, she was told to come out,
someone rocked up and shot her.
And the math teacher, his Australian wife and bilingual girls.
Mom killed, the girls too.
And the boy they ordered to shout, "Open up, it's safe!"
They shot him with the neighbors.
And the woman they penetrated before they killed her.
Or one they killed, then penetrated.
And the folks in the migunit.
Folks from the festival hid there. I read comments...
"Celebrating freedom and love 1km from Gaza?"
They say, "Gaza Prison."
I reply, "363 people's throats slit! Your heart is still empty."
Say massacre, bloodbath, genocide, but don't act superior!
Like, if you were us, it'd be different.
We know how you were raised, how you raise your kids.
You live free from danger.
You amplify your little hassles, so you feel alive.
You protest, you sign petitions... Heroes!
We know you feel no sadness for our dead.
Why? Because they're ours.
They don't understand. Nobody understands.
Me neither.
A grenade thrown in the shelter killed half the kids.
The 2nd killed the other half. And 5 others.
One guy fled. 5 guys emptied their mags on him.
And the guy who threw grenades back out.
In and out, in and out, until they exploded.
And the cars, shoot the windshield out,
then a bullet in the head.
And that officer...
Beheaded with a shovel, and the photo sent to his wife.
And those that sent messages to their children or parents.
"They've come in." "They're here."
"They're shooting at me." "They set me on fire." "I'm hurt."
"I'm dead." "I love you. Goodbye."
Parents comforting each other. "Shot in the head, he didn't suffer."
And the busload of pensioners. Some with their grandchildren.
They boarded the bus.
A bullet in the head. Him, her, her, him...
and him and her, her, him,
her, her...
Can you wait for me in the car?
A few minutes.
Saved, not saved...
Burned.
Father and son.
Chopped.
Shot her.
Gunned them down.
Chopped... Raped...
Shot and chopped.
Burned her, raped her.
And her and him.
And him.
A bullet.
Burned them.
Slit her throat. Raped her.
And they raped him.
Over the beach of Gaza
falls the Autumn night
Planes
are bombing
Destroy!
Destroy!
Tsahal's brave soldiers
cross the front line
To wipe out those bearers
of swastikas
In one year
There'll be nothing living there
And we'll return safely
To our homes
In one year
We'll annihilate them all
Then we'll come back
to plow
our fields
You're shaking.
I hope God doesn't exist.
Y, look...
I'm sorry I didn't call when your mother died.
I've wanted to tell you all day.
I was down on myself back then.
I thought you wouldn't want to hear from me.
I know how close you were...
I never forgot you, Lea.
Not for a single day.
Your place, second row in from the window.
Tanned in summer, pale in winter.
Brushing against you as I squeezed past.
The bell rings, I rush over to you.
I run in the corridor, there and back, there and back.
Truth is, before we played together,
I'd no idea you existed.
Just a kid with weird hair.
But I was playing for you, Lea.
All those years.
It's for you that I am what I am.
A couple kisses on TV, I wonder if Lea's watching too.
Right now, right here, I could forget my life for you.
Forget my home.
My child.
It's not smart to stay too long.
If we can see Gaza, Gaza can see us.
Anyway, the nanny will kill me.
C'mon, let's go.
Watch out.
It's slippery.
Hold my hand.
Imagine if we had a child.
What name would we choose?
Nonsense.
What have you done, Y?
If only we were up there, my Noah.
Far away from here.
No place is worse than home.
Mom?
Sorry.
Sorry for the song.
Sorry for being a coward.
As rocks rained down on him,
Y thought of the hill on the border.
Of the non-stop explosions.
The cloud of smoke enshrouding Gaza.
The Israelis, who grew up with the question,
"How could people live normally while perpetrating horror?"
have themselves become the answer.
At times like this, a 69-year-old Israeli woman,
who died of lung cancer a few years ago,
is of little interest.
You're going to kill me, mom?
Our Father is still alive
Our Father is still alive
The Israeli people is alive
The Israeli people is alive
Yasmine?
You good, Yasmine?
You home?
Hello.
He's standing up.
And understands everything. One year old.
Are you happy I'm here?
I don't know.
You're sad?
Do I stay? Go?
You want to flip a coin?
I wondered if you'd be back.
And I said to myself,
When you drink, you become brave.
"Freedom!"
An hour later, you have a headache.
A week now, I've dreamed of a donkey's ass.
And hey...
here it is!
I did it.
The song.
Of course. It's written all over your face.
I did it for you.
The promises I made you.
You too.
If you don't want me to do it, I'll call the Russian.
I'll tell Avinoam.
Time for prayers.
Sure, in the synagogue.
There's a new rabbi.
Rabbi rabbit.
Since the war started, he holds midnight prayer meetings.
Hollers in his megaphone, wakes Noah.
If God exists, bomb them.
Isn't it a bit close?
You're so smart.
I'm dying to kill him.
How about I talk to Avinoam to shut him up?
Where did you go, cowboy?
Far away. I walked. It became a path.
The constant buzzing in my head.
Shouting in the darkness, I reached the border.
Stop, baby, don't bother. I'll believe anything you want.
Now, if you love me, button it.
You've gotten so old from trying to look young.
I'm tired.
It's dumb because I loved you more than anything.
Going to bed.
Maybe to dream.
I'm beat, beat, beat.
Tomorrow, I'll put cream on, I'll look refreshed.
We'll go to the island, to the pool.
We'll stay on the island.
That's what I want. Or nearby.
I don't get it.
I decided with Noah. We go to the island and don't come back.
The hip-hop cash will do at first.
Then you'll get paid for your thing.
I've started learning the language on Duolingo.
โ What's that? โ An app, dummy.
Y translates as Ypsilon.
Come again?
Ypsilon!
Too long.
Waste of time.
What will we do there?
It'll be like before.
When you played gigs and I danced.
When you played piano and woke me coming home late.
We had nothing, we were happy.
We were unhappy.
It was horrible.
Thirty people nodding their heads like that.
I know them all, detest half of them.
Mommy wants you to be miserable!
We'll save Noah from this place.
You think there are no anthems there?
People are mean everywhere, pumpkin.
Listen to a joke.
This one is funny. It's on you.
A Jew, not necessarily a Jew,
in a travel agency,
says to the clerk,
"I want away."
She asks him, "Where to?"
"I don't know."
She fetches a globe.
"Choose." She gives him 15 minutes.
"Well?"
He asks, "You wouldn't have another globe?"
You know what this song will do for us?
Noah will grow up in a palace.
His son will come from the cock of a king.
Yes!
After you bailed, I left him at kindergarten.
In the park, from where you sent me photos,
I pictured life without you.
โ What was it like? โ Great!
Now I want to wash my body of you.
โ Gonna shower. โ Any chance you'll drown?
Why'd you come back? I'm drained of love for you.
Stop it.
You think you're so awesome?
You're not.
But I love you.
You're right, Y.
Noah,
don't be afraid.
Go.
Tuesday on the island. We go 50-50, and we're done!
Bring your passport, don't touch the joint account.
But it's joint!
III. THE NIGHT
So then, ChatGPT?
"Against revenge."
And Google?
"Against revenge."
"Killing the dog does not heal the bite," they say.
But dogs bite!
I called upon the Jewish sages for help.
Here...
As the generations proceed,
it turns out the enemies of humanity and the enemies of Israel are synonyms.
They muddy our world.
They are gathering to fight us.
A righteous man will use
the cruelest, meanest, most despicable methods.
Because only that
can stop evil that thinks it's good.
Out of a righteousness so great...
so huge,
people...
who in their personal lives
would never say a bad word about anyone,
will be nice to each other
at the beach, on the streets.
At home.
When they face their enemy,
they become cruel,
snakes, foxes, lions!
Hunger!
Thirst!
Sickness!
Death!
It's the command of revenge!
Wait for us, Gaza.
Wait for us when evening falls.
We will come.
We will bring fire to your walls, Gaza.
Destroyers of humanity,
sons of darkness and death,
you have committed evil
and you shall know great evil.
Our God,
I have set the Arab always before my eyes,
as I lie and as I rise,
and as I walk and as I fall.
Make it so my lips never cease to exhort revenge.
Neither mine, nor my seed's lips,
nor my seed's seed's lips.
Forever more.
We wrote a song.
An anthem.
Israel...
you, whom the whole world is watching,
because you're always ahead of the world.
Monotheism.
Antiterrorism.
Shabbat shalom.
As Cato the Elder said,
at the end of every speech,
Furthermore,
I believe...
Hard.
We made it to paradise and he is still here.
I've gotten to know your husband.
He's very flexible.
High energy.
And...
weird.
But...
good weird.
Give them a list of gifts.
And put it on 70 DB.
Choose expensive ones.
It's the same list I gave the Prime Minister.
Over the beach of Gaza falls the Autumn night
Planes are bombing
Destroy! Destroy!
Tsahal's brave soldiers cross the front line
To wipe out those bearers of swastikas
In one year
There will be nothing living there
And we'll return safely to our homes
In one year
We'll annihilate them all
Then we'll come home to plow our fields
And we will remember forever
Our pure, beautiful compatriots
For a friendship like this
Will never let our hearts forget
Love sanctified with blood
Will always blossom among us
And now all the words are exhausted
All that's left is our soul to shout out
For our soul no longer only resonates
Now we have a warrior soul
The people of Israel
The eternal, perpetual people
Without stinting we will protect our home
Without rest
we will show the world
How we exterminate our enemies
And we will remember forever
Our pure, beautiful compatriots
For a friendship like this
Will never let our hearts forget
Love sanctified with blood
Will always blossom among us
Go get some rest.
Not yet.
You'll have a garden?
Maybe in my summer house.
You guys want a horse?
Noah will have a horse, just like Prince Harry.
Where can you park a horse in Tel Aviv?
Noah won't grow up there.
He won't get killed or kill.
There'll be no tribute songs because he'll die of old age.
He'll grow up in Europe.
He'll forget Israel.
That he was born there.
That the country exists.
If, by chance, it comes up on the radio,
he'll soon get bored and put music on.
On the train, he'll see 1,000km of green until he falls asleep.
Then he'll wake up,
it'll still be green,
and he'll be able to breathe.
He won't know or sing your despicable song.
I can't ever look at you again, you worm.
Truth is, I've already forgotten you.
It's okay.
Avinoam.
Underwater, he thought it's dumb for a man without morals to kill himself.
Mom, give me strength just one last time.
You okay?
And you?
You know I smile when I cry.
I'm going.
Coming?
Where to?
Yes.
November 2023,
as the Israeli army invades Gaza,
an organization called "Civic Front"
releases a song, accompanied by a music video,
entitled Children of the Generation of Victory.
This song is a revised version of Brotherhood in Arms,
one of the seminal commemorative songs of the State of Israel,
written by the poet Haรฏm Gouri in 1947.
Civic Front uses a melody similar
to the original melody by composer Sasha Argov,
but fundamentally alters the songโs lyrics
and the author's original intent.
This was done without the knowledge or approval of his family.
The film presents the revised version by Civic Front in its entirety,
despite the poet's family's strong opposition to its use.
The video accompanying the revised version
is shown in full in the film,
however, the children's faces have been hidden
To protect their identity.
