- [Joe] Previously on "Condor".
- [Bob] Without real power,
you cannot make a dent in this world.
- [Joe] What's going on, Sam?
- You wrote a program
to assess likely potential terrorist targets.
We flagged this guy, Ammar Nazari.
- A man we suspect being a terrorist
is about to walk a package
into a football stadium packed with 80,000 American souls.
- You're gonna kill him?
- That's why you're here.
(gun blasting)
- [Joe] What are you doing with my phone?
- I'm on Tinder. - No. No, no, no, no, Mae
- [Mae] Yeah. Kathy H is gonna change your life.
- Yesterday countless American lives were saved
because of this group.
(dramatic music)
(gun blasting)
- [Sarah] Follow me! Come on!
- It appears the shooter was Joseph Turner.
- What the fuck is that? - This hour is still at large
and presumed to be dangerous.
- Joe had nothing to do with what happened here today.
- You recruited him, you trained him.
- I know it's asking a lot for you to step aside
and let Marty Frost handle this investigation.
- Something bad happened at work.
- [Jude] Well, was it your fault?
- [Sam] Yeah.
- Can you fix it?
- [Sam] I don't think so.
Get in!
(gun blasting)
You are my best friend and I love you.
(gun blasting) (Sam grunts)
- (sobbing) Dad's gone.
- Joe, are you okay?
- I wrote an algorithm that found Ammar Nazari.
There's a plot to release a plague virus at the Hajj.
My entire office has been killed because of it.
There's a woman with long black hair.
If you come across her, you fucking run.
- [Kathy] She's upstairs. She's up upstairs. (panting)
(car engine revving)
(gun blasting) (bullets thudding)
- Kathy?
- I'm sorry. - Whenever an event occurs,
a man appears or men appear,
by whose will, the event seems to have taken place.
- The attack is gonna be at the Hajj.
Two million people are gonna be infected
with the plague tomorrow.
- I'm handling it, Joe.
- How?
- How does a person who believes in God,
come up with such a Godless plan?
- He wants to start a fucking holy war.
- No, I merely wanna win the one we're already in.
- I know that you plan to release plague at the Hajj
and make it look like a boomerang.
- [Reporter] Marty Frost had a dossier
of classified information on a dead man's switch.
- We need to do something, or a lot of people are gonna die.
If anything happened to her the whole thing will come out.
- I once asked you, the number of lives
that would have to be saved for you
to be willing to sacrifice a single human being.
- If you don't pick a number you can't lower it.
(gun blasting)
Bye, Bob.
- I heard you left the agency.
All that guilt finally caught up to you?
- I'm not a threat to the agency.
- They might think you want revenge.
- What is this?
You trying to show me how easy it is to get to me?
- Isn't it obvious? You're the one who got away, Joe.
(ominous music)
(waves crashing)
(water splashing)
(waves lapping)
(gun blasting) (commandos groaning)
- [Officer SZR] Something's wrong.
- [CIA Agent] What's the problem?
- [Officer SZR] If that was a dirty bomb,
the meter would be going fucking crazy right now.
- [CIA Agent] Well maybe your machine is broken.
- Maybe your intel is bad.
- Careful.
- [Officer SZR] I'm telling you,
you are more radioactive than this fucking suitcase.
- Then what the fuck were they doing here?
(guns blasting)
(suspenseful music)
- [CIA Agent] Ah, shit.
(gun blasting)
(tense music)
(siren blaring) (Joe panting)
(boat horn blares)
(door clunking)
(Joe sighing)
(siren blaring)
(rain pattering)
(traffic whooshing)
(phone ringing)
- Now carry the one.
(cellphone ringing)
Hey!
You got it.
- [Joe] What I get?
- [Mae] No, I'm talking to Jude. How are you?
How is Prague?
- [Joe] I'm not in Prague, I'm in Budapest.
- [Mae] What time is it there?
- Little after two.
- [Mae] When did you turn into such a night owl?
- I woke up and I couldn't fall back to sleep.
- Just hang on a sec, okay?
- [Joe] Sure.
- I thought you guys were doing homework?
- It's done.
- If I check, is it still gonna be done?
- [Sammy] Yep.
- What are you watching?
- Swatting videos.
- [Mae] I'm not even gonna ask.
(men yelling)
So what are you doing in Hungary?
- Learning Hungarian. (doorbell rings)
- [Mae] Hey, Anders, your dad's here!
- Hey! Seriously, if it's not a good time I can call back.
- No, I really wanna talk to you.
I'm gonna call you right back, okay?
- Sure.
Bye. (cellphone beeps)
(door clunking)
- Hey, Mr.Crane.
- Jude-o! What're you up to?
- [Jude] Division.
(door clunking)
- Hey! Anders will be right up.
Hey, Jude, do you wanna get ready for bed?
- [Jude] Night, Mr.Crane.
- Night, Jude.
How you doing?
- I'm
pretty well.
(laughs) Down boy.
(both chuckling)
- Piper's having one of her parties tomorrow.
- I got the e-vite.
- Thought maybe we could go together.
- Yeah, no.
- You don't wanna be seen in public with me?
- I don't want people to think that we're sleeping together.
- But, we are sleeping together.
- I'm not ready to go public with that information yet.
- Hmm.
Funny, I wanna shout it from the rooftops.
- That's 'cause you're a guy.
- No, it's- - See you tomorrow, dude.
- It's 'cause I really like you.
(footsteps tapping)
You ready kiddo? - Yep.
Goodnight, Mrs. Barber.
- Goodnight, Mrs. Barber.
(door clunking)
- [Mae] Goodnight, boys.
(door clunking)
(rain pattering)
(cellphone ringing)
- Hey.
- [Mae] How do you say hello in Hungarian?
- Szia.
- Szia!
Do you like it there?
- [Joe] It's okay.
- You met anyone? Made any friends?
- [Joe] You know, I've only been here a week, right?
- [Mae] Why'd you leave Prague?
- Time to move on.
- That's what you said about Florence, Lisbon, Madrid.
- I like moving around.
- [Mae] Sounds lonely.
- I like that too.
- Then why you calling me at two in the morning?
- Hey, who is Anders?
- [Mae] Sammy's best friend.
- And what happened to Brian?
- That was years ago.
Kids are not very loyal. Allegiances shift.
So when was the last time you went out on a date?
- When was the last time you went out on a date?
- I'm sleeping with Anders's dad.
Is it fucked up that I'm sleeping
with my son's best friend's father?
- Maybe.
I don't know. Do you like him?
- I don't know.
Maybe.
- How long's is it been going on?
- [Mae] Couple months.
- Then why didn't you say anything?
- Because I haven't seen you in two years.
And you can't expect me to remember to tell you everything.
- [Jude] Can you tuck me in?
- Yeah, I'll be right there, baby.
(water splashing)
I know why you can't sleep at night, Joe.
(gun blasting)
We did a bad thing to stop a worse thing from happening.
- Oh, man! You know, you're starting to sound like Bob.
(tense music)
- You need to stop punishing yourself.
How do you say goodbye in Hungarian?
- Viszontlatasra.
- (laughs) Yeah. I'm not even gonna try that.
Let's talk soon, okay?
- [Joe] Yeah.
- [Mae] Okay. Ciao.
- [Joe] Bye.
(phone line beeping)
(Joe sighs)
(cat mews)
(car purring)
(children chattering)
(door clunking)
(sparse suspenseful music)
(tram bell rings)
(tram horn blares)
(tram engine whirring)
(bicycle whirring)
(motorcycle engine revving)
- What was so urgent?
- [Vasili] I'm under suspicion.
- How do you know?
- [Vasili] How do you know you have an itch on your nose.
Tell Partridge I need an out.
- No names. Just stay calm.
- [Vasili] Do I not seem calm?
Just relay the message.
(train clattering)
- You can't sleep?
- It's 3:30.
- You went to bed at two.
- What are you doing today?
(Lily laughing)
- It's not today yet.
(sighs) Changing the oil in the Mercedes.
- Oh.
- Playing tennis with Carol.
- Oh.
- Mm-hmm.
And waiting for my husband to finally retire.
- That's what you wanted,
you shouldn't have married such a young man.
(Lily chuckles)
But I'll think about it.
I promise.
- If you think about it,
you'll never do it.
Just retire today.
- It's not today, yet.
(gentle suspenseful music)
(cellphone buzzing)
(Joe sighs)
(people chattering)
(tense music)
(children chattering)
(gun blasting)
(man thudding) (man grunts)
(suspenseful music) (people chattering)
(gun blasting) (man grunting)
(gun clattering)
(man groaning)
(children chattering)
(bell tolling)
(car horns blaring)
(water gushing) (people chattering)
(sirens blaring)
(cellphone buzzing)
- Here you are.
Where are you from?
- States.
- Ah! That explains your Hungarian.
- Oh, it's that bad?
- Not that bad.
Maybe you just need to practice with someone.
I have the rest of the day off.
- Maybe another time.
- You must be very determined to be alone.
(tense music)
(cellphone ringing)
(water trickling)
(dog barking)
- [Tracy] You sure you don't want me to drive?
- No, I like the way the cool sidewalk feels on my feet.
- What made you change your mind about the party?
- I was on the phone with a friend of mine last night
telling him to get over his shit.
I realized that I was maybe being a bit hypocritical.
- Yeah?
What kind of shit are you having trouble getting over?
- If I could talk about it, there wouldn't be any trouble.
(both laughing)
- You know, I cheated on my ex-wife after Anders was born.
And she found out about it
in a very embarrassing way for the both of us.
I know you were betrayed by Sam
and how hurt you must have felt
'cause I've caused that kind of pain.
But because of that, I'll never be
careless with someone's heart ever again.
(rain pattering) (footsteps tapping)
(car horn blaring)
(door clunking)
- (gasps) Ah! Mae.
Tracy.
- [Mae] Hi, Eva.
- I called Gordon to tell him
that we'd would be coming together
so that it would not be weird.
- Not weird. Not weird at all.
Come on in. (Mae laughs)
- Place looks great! - Ah, thank you.
(sighs) Okay.
So Gordon's manning the bar.
Tracy, why don't you go get Mae a drink
so we can talk about you. - Yes, please.
- Wine? Beer?
Something hard?
- White wine would be great. Thank you.
- Maybe something harder a litter later.
- Oh, my God. Please don't do this right now.
- What? You'd rather wait till I've had more to drink?
(Mae laughs)
- [Gordon] There he is.
- How are you?
- Eva's giving Mae the third degree.
- Just act nonchalant, okay?
- What she like in bed?
- Your wife?
- Wow! Okay.
You must really like her.
- I do, so don't be an asshole..
- I'm sorry. I got a big head start here.
Rough day at work.
Oh, what you having?
(tense music)
- [Joe] Why are you following me?
- I work with your Uncle Bob.
- Bob Partridge and I don't talk. Don't follow.
- Please. My name is Vasili Sirin.
I was an SZR, funneling intel to your uncle.
He told me he had a nephew in Europe and I should find you
if ever couldn't go through the channels.
I assumed he told you about me.
I was surprised when you didn't recognize me.
- No. You speak English better than you understand it.
- A senior CIA officer has been turned by the SZR.
Information leaked by him has already resulted in the deaths
of several American assets.
I can give the agency this man's identity
in exchange for my safety, please.
There's already been one attempt on my life
and you are my only contact.
- Yeah? Well, you have one less contact than you thought.
- All I'm asking is that you make a phone call.
- Don't follow me.
- I'll be at Kalman Imre utca 19 for the next 24 Hours.
Kalman Imre utca 19.
- I once ate an entire Thanksgiving meal by myself.
- I believe that.
- I'm just surprised you only did it only once.
- Fuck you! Drink.
- What? (Gordon laughing)
Okay, really.
You mean to tell me that you've never eaten
an entire Thanksgiving meal by yourself?
- My wife, ladies and gentlemen.
- What? - This is what I have to
live with right here.
Unbelievable.
- I once went to a death metal music festival.
- Lie.
- Drink.
It is true. (Gordon chuckles)
Gordon took me on our first date in college.
It was so romantic.
- Oh! - My God.
- Very romantic. (Eva laughing)
- I've never been roller-skating.
- Okay. That's a lie.
- Drink.
- You never roller-skated? - Drink.
- We're going roller skating.
- I didn't lose my virginity until I was 23.
- That's inappropriate,
but by the look of it, completely true.
(all laughing)
- I lost my virginity to my mother's best friend
when I was 14.
- No way!
- Yes way. Drink! - No!
- Yes. That's why he's so such a perv!
- No! That's so bad!
- Yeah. It is. - It's pretty cool.
- (laughing) Oh, my God!
- I can say the alphabet backwards.
- Bullshit.
- Z-Y-X-W-V-U-T-S-R-Q-P-O-N-M-L-K-J-I-H-G-F-E-D-C-B-A.
And you may drink.
(all laughing)
- Whoa.
Boo-ya!
(Tracy chuckles)
- I'm in the mile-high club.
- Oh, I like that!
- There you go! - You are a slut!
(all laughing)
- I've kept a log of every book I've ever read
starting when I was seven, and I've read 1,412 books.
- [Eva] Well, she's a doctor.
- Okay, I'm gonna say true.
- Drink.
(all laughing)
- She's good. - She's got you.
- She's good.
(Eva laughing)
- I had a twin brother that died at birth.
- (chuckles) Lie.
- Drink.
- I slept with twins.
- Oh, wow. (all laughing)
Much better. - Better.
- Yeah. - We're back on track.
(Eva laughing)
Thanks for coming.
(all laughing) - Twice.
- How is he driving right now?
- Who, Gord?
Gord's impervious to alcohol.
- I am not.
I can't remember the last time I...
Hey, why can you say the alphabet backwards?
- [Gordon] Well, he can say anything backwards.
- Lie!
Drink! - Okay, you got me.
I'll drink when I get home. I will.
(Gordon chuckles)
(insects chirping) (car engine whirring)
(car door clunks)
- [Mae] Thanks, Gord.
- [Gordon] Night, Mae.
- [Mae] Goodnight.
- [Tracy] Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?
Night. - Goodnight.
- What's on your mind?
- This Ukraine op I've been running. (clearing throat)
Went sideways on me.
- Then what happened?
- I got some intel that the Russians
were smuggling a dirty bomb into Crimea,
so I got Kiev station to send a guy along
with an SZR strike team.
They were waiting when the Russians made landfall,
but the whole thing was a setup.
- Let me guess, no dirty bomb?
- No, it was a hit job.
The Russians used their own people as bait.
Took out our guy, plus five Ukrainians.
- Ah, Jesus!
- Yeah.
This one hurt, man.
I don't know how much longer I can keep doing this shit.
Might hang it up.
(ominous music)
- Yeah, I hear you, pal.
Ever since I started seeing Mae it's... (laughs)
- She's great, by the way.
- She is, isn't she?
(car engine revving)
(gun blasting)
- Oh, shit.
- It's okay.
Don't feel bad, okay!
- Wake up.
Hey, wake up! Wake up!
Kathy?
(traffic rumbling) (car horns blaring)
(cellphone ringing)
(cellphone buzzing)
(ominous music)
(dog barking)
- Bob?
(footsteps tapping)
(cellphone ringing)
- Hello?
(doorbell ringing)
(door clunking)
(Lily sighs)
- I'm sorry, Lily. He was a good man.
We had our differences,
but mostly we agreed on the important things.
Where's the body?
(door clunking)
(Reuel sighs)
(cellphone ringing)
- Hello?
- [Reuel] Joe, it's Reuel Abbott.
- Why the fuck do you have Bob's phone?
- (sighs) Well, your uncle appears
to have taken his own life tonight.
- What?
- We will need to talk.
I need to know why Bob was trying to call you.
(Joe gasps)
Called you six times. And I was wondering you-
(tense music)
(cellphone buzzing)
- [Joe] After everything that's happened,
do you think we can just talk?
- The last time I checked in,
you were stealing a large sum of money
from my personal bank account.
- Fuck! You deserved a hell a lot more than that.
- Yeah. The Muslim charities were a nice touch.
- Were you even punished for what you tried to do? Huh?
- Joe, your uncle is dead.
Why don't we put aside our personal issues
and deal with the problem at hand?
Now, I understand that you don't trust me, personally,
but I know you don't doubt my loyalty to the agency.
I need to know why Bob was trying to reach you.
- Fine.
I was approached by- - No, not like this.
We're not on a safe channel. I'm gonna give you an address.
(suspenseful music)
(door clunking)
(security radio chattering)
(security radio beeps)
(footsteps tapping)
(door clunking)
(door creaking)
(security radio chattering)
(security radio chattering)
(door creaking)
- [Marine] Step back, please.
(door clunking)
Welcome to the American Embassy, sir.
(footsteps thudding)
(door clunking)
(footsteps thudding)
(door clunking)
- (sighs) Vasili Sirin.
- A colonel in the SZR. Yes.
- He was a double, Bob was running him, he's blown.
His own people tried to kill him.
He escaped now and wants to defect.
He says that he can identify a mole within the CIA.
Which means my uncle didn't kill himself.
Which I suspect you already know.
Sirin will be at Kalman Imre utca 19
until 6:00 p.m. this evening.
Okay. So now you know everything that I know.
- I'm gonna giving you instructions.
Do you have a pen?
- No, no, no. I am making an introduction.
Which I've done. Now I'm leaving, I've a funeral to attend.
- [Reuel] You said the agency's compromised?
- No, no, no. Vasili Sirin said the agency's compromised.
- If that's true, then your uncle isn't the only casualty.
American assets were ambushed
and killed in Ukraine yesterday.
Vasili Sirin may be our best lead.
But I need him here in America, safe.
Now, Bob trusted us to handle this.
And not because we get along so well together
but because we're the only men he knew for sure
weren't compromised by the Russians.
- Handle it yourself.
I'm an old man, Joe. I get tired walking upstairs.
- Hmm. I'm not qualified.
- Oh, your actions have a way belying your qualifications.
You're young Joe, you don't understand the damage
Ames did to the agency
or that Robert Hansen did to the FBI.
The loss of lives that can be brought about
by one man's actions is astonishing.
- Oh, man, that is a ironic statement coming from a fanatic
who tried to kill millions of innocent people.
- I suggest we focus on the American lives
presently in danger, they can still be saved.
- Is it only American lives that you care about?
- Only? No.
Primarily? Yes.
Without your help, Vasili Sirin is dead.
(tense music)
(birds chirping)
(car beeping)
(car engine revving)
(cellphone buzzing)
- Hi, Aunt Lily.
Of course.
I'm coming home.
(car engine revving)
(rain pattering) (traffic rumbles)
(people yelling)
(door clunking)
(tense music)
- What did Bob say?
- Bob's dead.
They're saying that he killed himself.
I spoke to the deputy director.
Our flight leaves in five hours.
- They're sending a plane?
- Homeland Security has been given a story
that the agency is pulling one of its own
out of Eastern Europe, and that is all I know.
- [Vasili] This isn't even me.
- [Joe] Best that they could do.
- We're flying commercial?
- If we're doing this, we are.
(cellphone ringing)
(Mae groaning)
- Lily, whatever you do, don't talk too loud,
I have a terrible headache.
Oh, my God!
- [Vasili] Why did you change your mind?
- [Joe] I've been where you are.
- I remember, I saw it on the news.
- [Joe] A woman I didn't know, a stranger, helped me.
- And it worked out?
- No, she died.
My uncle did not kill himself.
Which means that this mole is somehow responsible.
Which means he's got my attention.
(cellphone buzzing)
Hey.
(gentle solemn music)
(sighs) Yeah, I heard.
I'm just getting ready to leave.
- [Mae] I'm at your aunt's.
- [Joe] How is she?
- Happy you are coming home.
Are you okay?
- Yeah. Yeah.
- [Mae] Are you gonna stay here?
- Oh, no, no. I don't think that's a good idea.
- [Mae] Stay with us. You can take Sammy's room.
- [Joe] Okay.
- [Mae] How do you say see you soon in Hungarian?
- Hamarosan talalkozunk.
- (laughs) You really speak Hungarian.
- Maybe I'm making it up.
- I'm so sorry, Joe.
- Yeah.
(ominous music)
(car engine revving)
(airplane bell dings)
- No, I always prefer flying west.
It's better to gain time than to lose it.
We should have a plan to meet up on the other side
in case we get separated
or have to meet without calling attention to ourselves.
- Okay.
- [Vasili] Union Station, Track 12, 20:30.
- Why 12?
- Okay, Track 11.
- [Flight Attendant] Champagne?
- Please.
- Water for me, thank you.
(Joe sighs)
- You're a good man.
- I'm tryna be.
- In the end, that's all anyone can ask.
- Even if it leads you to do something unforgivable?
- Let's hope so.
- Thank you.
- [Joe] Thank you.
- To fighting the good fight.
And to your uncle, also a good man.
- Maybe.
(airplane roaring) (tires screeching)
(PA system announcer chattering)
(suspenseful music)
(people chattering)
- [Customs Officer] Take a break.
Next.
- Yeah, that was it. Yeah.
(suspenseful music continues)
(computer beeps)
- Also this. Thank you.
(computer keyboard clacking)
(computer beeps)
- [Customs Officer] Next.
- Welcome home.
- Thank you.
- What now? - Now we rent a car.
(traffic rumbling) (car horns blaring)
(sirens blaring)
(car horns blaring)
This is D.C., there are motorcades everywhere.
There's nothing to worry about.
(car engines roaring)
See?
Everything's okay.
- It's always strange to be here, behind enemy lines.
- (laughs) Yeah, pretty strange for me too.
So, what's the plan?
What are you gonna do with all this freedom?
- The dream would be to meet a woman,
have a few children, and open a small business.
Isn't America just a big country of small businesses?
- Well, you'll have to look me up.
Invite me over for dinner.
- The more likely reality
is that I'll spend the rest of my life
looking over my shoulder,
trying to assimilate into a vastly different culture.
Eventually drinking myself into an early grave
like so many other men of my ilk.
- Then, why go with all this trouble?
- Life clings to life.
(traffic whooshing)
(tire blasts) - What the fuck?
Shit.
We have to go.
(motorcycle engine revving)
(bomb thuds) (bomb beeping)
(bomb exploding) (glass shattering)
(ears ringing)
- Joe, you're in the hospital.
You were in a car accident. Do you remember?
(Joe groaning) - Joe.
Joe?
We have to go.
Joe, we have to go.
Joe! Joe!
- Do you know what day it is?
- Friday. - That's right.
Do you remember why you came home?
- (exhales) Bob's funeral.
- Good.
I just spoke to the doctor
and they wanna keep you here overnight,
which I think that's a good idea.
(sirens blaring)
- You awake, Joe?
'Cause there are couple things I'd like to ask you.
(Joe sniffs)
- [Joe] They came for him in an ambulance.
They were dressed as EMTs.
- And did you see their faces?
- No.
- They kill him?
(ambulance engine revving)
- [Joe] Not in front of me, but...
- Why did they let you go?
(tense music)
- I don't know. Why don't you ask them?
- So you came here for your uncle's funeral
and you got into a car accident.
So, pay your respects
and go back to whatever it is we pulled you away from.
- You can't possibly expect me
to go back to what I've been doing
after everything that has just happened.
- Well, that's exactly what I expect you to do.
I made a mistake asking you to do this.
I over-estimated your capabilities,
and I'm sorry and get well.
(Joe panting)
(sparse ominous music)
- [Lily] Are you doing something for him, Joe?
Are you back with the agency?
- [Joe] No.
- Because I went through Bob's phone logs,
just to piece together that night,
and you were the last call he made.
It was only 60 seconds, but it gave me solace
to think that you and Bob spoke before he died.
And then I checked the time and realized
that you and Bob spoke an hour after he died,
and then I realized who you must have been speaking with.
And here I was thinking that you were done with all of that.
- Aunt Lilly, it's-
- But since you're not,
there is something I'd like you to do for me.
- What?
- Bob didn't kill himself. He was murdered.
And I'll have no peace until his killers are found
and made to pay for what they've done.
- Aunt Lily, it's-
- Do you understand, Joe?
(sparse ominous music continues)
(logo smashing)
(majestic music)
(dramatic music)
(lion roaring)
(intense music)
