My mom -- she has always stood up for me.

She has always paved the way for me.

Been there every step of the way.

I had Makiyah when I was in college, single mom.

And so there were times

where I didn't know how I was gonna do some things.

Makiyah: We would come home from school,

and then we would go to my grandparents' house

and eat dinner.

I didn't know then as a child,

that was solely because we didn't have food.

Leondra: Everybody hits rough spots, but I hit a rough one.

It was a really dark time.

Makiyah: For her to allow me to solely be a child

and have no worries,

she never let us see her suffer.

I am nervous because everyone was impressive.

There are three platinum tickets up for grabs.

And each one secures one of those spots.

But for the first time ever,

it's not the judges making the final call.

The first will be chosen by the industry tastemakers...

the family members.

And the third platinum ticket by their peers,

our "Idol" hopefuls.

Kyndal: This is crazy.

Now, the 'ohana cannot vote for their own family members,

and the Idols cannot vote for themselves.

It's really about whose performance moved them the most.

Man: It is a gut-wrenching decision to have to make.

Whatever hit me in the heart, that's who I want.

It's difficult.

I mean, I think just people that really stepped it up to,

you know, superstar level.

Shirley: As someone who's watched the show for so many seasons,

who's written about it, who's covered it,

being on this side is -- it's really stressful.

that I've ever done in my life,

to have someone's career in your hands.
