Hey.

[Dawn] Can I join you?

Of course.

[Jessie] Is everything alright?

Yeah...

-No. -[light laugh]

What is it?

I miss being in love.

I miss the absolute wonder of having someone new walk into your life.

The initial overwhelming passion, the physical attraction.

That incredible chemistry that makes your blood boil.

Romance.

Yeah. We're so focused on work.

No soft lights, no music to dance to, no secret touches...

and I miss it.

I don't really miss it.

Unless I think about it.

That's why I don't think about it. [laughs]

When I think about the candlelight and that look in the man's eyes...

that unspoken desire that reaches out

and covers your whole body and embraces you.

Well, it takes your breath away.

That ain't romance, Jessie. That's lust.

[both laugh]

Yeah, well...

[both laugh]

-Okay. I think I need a swim. -Yeah. Me, too.

[both laugh]

[soft music]

[Jessie] Wow! Kaneohe Bay is incredible.

I've never seen anything like this.

I find myself saying that same thing about so many places in these islands,

but Kaneohe is definitely one of my favorites.

[Jessie] Look at that!

[Jessie laughs] It's like a giant underwater mushroom.

This place is so gorgeous. It just takes your breath away.

Yup.

[suspenseful music]

What's going on over there?

[people yelling]

I don't know. Let's go check it out.

[people yelling]

[people yelling]

[people yelling]

[girl] She disappeared!

[girl] Please help us.

[girl] Oh, please! Oh, thank God! Help.

-What's going on? -It's my friend, Lara.

One minute we were flying kites.

The next thing she was gone. She just disappeared. Vanished.

-[Sean] What do you mean? -[girl] She disappeared.

One second, she was here on the sandbar.

The next thing I know, she's gone.

[Sean] She must have stepped off the sandbar.

[girl] No, she was right here.

Something bad happened. You gotta help me find her.

-Hey, guys, look at this. -[Sean] What is it, Kekoa?

[Kekoa] I'm not sure. It smells terrible. Like sulfur...

[bubbling]

[suspenseful music]

-[Miko] Baywatch Hawaii... -[over the phone] This is Sean.

We got a situation here in Kaneohe Bay. We need back-up as soon as possible.

[Miko] Jason, are you on?

Yeah, go.

[Miko] Sean is with Jessie and Kekoa at Kaneohe Bay.

They need back-up. Over

[Jason] Roger that. I'm on my way.

[suspenseful music]

[bubbling]

[screaming]

-Jessie!! -Whoa! Wait a second.

[suspenseful music]

[girl] Oh my God! Where'd she go?

[girl] Now they're both gone.

[suspenseful music]

[Lara] Somebody... Help.

Please. Anybody?

[suspenseful music]

-[screaming] -[mini scuba tank hissing]

Is somebody there?

Alright. I'm going in. Let this play out behind me.

[suspenseful music]

Oh, my God.

What're you gonna do?

There is something bad down there.

You guys...

[Kekoa] Jessie! How'd you get over there?

Did you see Lara?

She's in an air pocket. She's okay.

Is Sean with her?

Sean?

He went in right after you. You didn't see him?

No!

[Jessie] It's so crazy down there.

It's like a maze. It's so weird. There's all these ins and outs.

And little holes. I couldn't get in to her myself.

I squeezed my arm through and got the spare air inside.

I filled the ceiling pocket with air so she can breathe.

[Jessie] The air pockets are heavily contaminated

with something that smells like sulfur.

Help me!

[gasping]

[suspenseful music]

[gasping]

[opening theme song]

[suspenseful music]

[Kekoa] I can smell the sulfur.

[Jessie] Maybe it's some kind of volcanic activity,

like a seam opened up.

[gasping] Help!

[inhaling]

-[Lara screams] -[mini scuba tank hissing]

Please! Help me!

[gasping]

This is all the spare air we have left.

That's only 12 minutes worth.

I know, it's not much.

Hey!

[girl] Where's Lara? Why do you keep leaving her down there?

Just stay back and let us do our job, please.

Look, there's no easy way in to her.

[Kekoa] The air pockets are contaminated by sulfur. It's deadly.

Alright, here's what we're gonna do.

We're gonna make air pockets using our spare air

and move her along accordingly.

Jessie, stay with the victim.

Kekoa and I will clear a path and make the air pockets.

-Alright. -Alright, let's go.

[suspenseful music]

[coughing]

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

Help me!

Alright. Take it easy. Take it easy.

We got a lot of work to do. I need you to take a breath out of this.

-I can't handle it. -Okay.

Alright, calm down. Look, you do it like this, okay?

Now there's not much time. The current's changing.

-Get me out of here, please. -Listen to me.

-I need you to help us. -[Lara] I can't.

Yes, you can. Now listen to me.

Right not we're in an air pocket. You can breathe, right?

-Yes, but I-- -Okay, no buts.

I'm gonna go ahead. I'm gonna make more air pockets.

Then you're going to swim with Jessie to me.

We're gonna keep doing that until we get you out.

All you have to remember is that you swim to me.

You got it? Alright. Here, take you victim.

I got her.

Okay, take a deep breath and stay with me. We're gonna swim to Sean.

-Are you ready? -I can't. I can't.

You have no choice. You have to come with me.

Count to three and take a deep breath.

One, two, three, go!

[mini scuba tank hissing]

[suspenseful music]

[breathing hard]

[Sean] Are you alright?

-[breathing hard and coughing] -[Jessie] Yes.

Listen to me. If you fight me again, I'll leave you.

Look, we'll help you if you let us, but she's not going to die for you.

Are you clear? Say it.

-It's clear... -Alright.

Alright. I'm going in.

[Lara breathing hard]

One, two, three, go!

[suspenseful music]

[mini scuba tank hissing]

[coughing]

The current's getting stronger.

We're gonna have to go faster. Let's go.

[suspenseful music]

[mini scuba tank hissing]

[gasping]

[gasping]

[gasping] Okay. Kekoa's just ahead. Let's go.

Sean. You take her.

Okay. Come with me.

[suspenseful music]

[empty scuba tank]

[coughing]

[coughing]

[coughing]

[girl] Lara! Thank God you're safe.

Jessie's trapped!

I need more spare air.

We have no spare air. We ran out.

Oh, damn!

Does anybody have any oxygen? Any scuba gear?

-[man] No. -Wait. I have an idea. I need this.

[man] Oh, yeah...

Here, grab this.

I need this.

Alright, look, you hold on to this end.

No matter what happens, don't let go, alright?

As soon as you feel my end open, just keep the air flowing, alright?

No matter what happens, keep the air flowing.

[light cough]

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[gasping]

Okay, Jess.

Let's go, we're going now. It's now or never.

Take your last breath. One, two, three.

[suspenseful music]

[Kekoa] Jessie! Sean!

Oh, thank god you're okay.

Are you alright?

[crying] Yes. I don't know. What happened?

The tide changed.

I didn't think you were going to make it.

Sean... I almost panicked.

I know you did. So did I.

[Sean sighs]

[Jessie] The gas. I couldn't breathe.

Alright. Come on. Up, up. Help her up.

You're okay.

[radio] This is Sean. Code 4, Kaneohe Bay. We're all okay.

You wanted to see me?

Yeah. How's everything going?

It's going good. Real good.

Good. I wanted to talk to you about tomorrow's assignments.

Oh, yeah? What's up?

I have you and Allie down to work Sandy Beach.

[suspenseful music]

So, you want me back at Sandy Beach?

And maybe watch someone else get slammed and end up a cripple.

No. No, put me down.

Hopefully not.

Well, it's a pretty dangerous place.

[Sean] I'll give you a pass if you want.

I'll have to do it sooner or later.

You can't conquer what you don't face.

Part of the job, right?

That's right.

Okay. Sandy Beach.

Jason...

Yeah?

You want me to go with you?

No. But thanks for the offer.

Allie and I, we'll be just fine.

[action music]

[action music]

[suspenseful music]

[Dawn] Oh, no, his shoot's not opening.

[suspenseful music]

Oh, my God. They're gonna crash.

Dawn, you're with me. Jessie, hit it!

[screaming]

Let's go!

[Sean] Miko. Alert the Coast Guard to stand by.

We've got 3 parachutes down.

One was a streamer.

Have Fire/Rescue get us an ambulance.

Hank! Hank, are you alright, man?

[crying] I'm messed up, Jared. I'm messed up, bad.

Alright, just hang on.

Ben's still under. I gotta go get him.

Alright? Hang on.

[gasping]

[Sean] Roger that. Coast Guard Helo standing by.

Fire/Rescue is on its way. We're coming on the scene, now.

Hang on, buddy.

[Newman] Give me the backboard.

-Let's get that C-collar on him. -[Jessie] Alright.

-[Newman] You got his head? -[Sean] Yeah, I got it.

-[Sean] This one's unconscious. -Get him to the Luhrs.

[Sean] Okay.

[Kekoa] Push. Come on.

[Newman] Okay. Put it down. Slide him in.

Ryan! Ryan!

Oh, my God.

Ryan, it's me!

Are you talking to me?

Oh, God. I thought you were someone else. I'm sorry.

[Sean] Dawn, let's go!

Okay. That was about the weirdest thing ever.

He looked exactly like someone I used to know. Exactly.

Well, a lot of people look alike.

So weird.

[Allie] So, this is your famous Sandy Beach.

Doesn't look so dangerous to me.

What do you think about this beach?

Sandy's? It's a great place to boogie-board, body surf.

One of the best in Hawaii.

[Sean] If you come unprepared or unaware,

it can be one of the most dangerous beaches in Hawaii.

People die here. Lifeguards die here.

[crying] I can't feel my legs. Help me. Please.

[man screaming]

[suspenseful music]

[gasping]

[man] My shoulder.

[moaning]

Don't do it, fella.

[man] Thanks.

You're welcome.

[suspenseful music]

Allie! I got him.

-You alright? -Yeah. I'm fine.

Thanks for nothing.

Yeah, you. You made me look like a total geek.

Who needs it. Who needs you?

They don't get it.

No. And they probably never will.

You can't keep everyone safe all the time.

You can't. It's just not possible.

Right.

Jason. Jace!

That is the way life is. It's the way people are.

They do dumb things and they do them all the time.

No matter how many times we try and tell them,

or how many times we try and stop them,

they're going to continue to make their own mistakes.

And you have to learn to accept that.

Yeah...

So, this is a new beach, a new day.

We do what we can and deal with the rest, huh?

Okay.

-You take the tower. I'll take the sand. -Alright.

[music playing]

d La, la, la, la

d Mmm, mmm

d La, la, la

d Don't be afraid of these waves Pulling you under d

d It's a new day

d A new day filled with wonder

d And if a cloud brings rain d

d Through it all, it all d

Who died?

These are for you.

-All of them? -Um-hum.

The floral shop at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

[Sean] Who're they from?

[clearing he throat] Jared Wilson. One of the sky divers we rescued.

You're not dating this guy, are you?

I might see him, if that's a date.

That's a big mistake, Dawn.

I'm gonna tell you this as a friend.

A lifeguard dating a victim is a potential time bomb

and not just for you, but for the victim as well.

They feel such immense gratitude that it can confuse their emotions.

I think it isn't appropriate.

Then, you shouldn't do it.

You know what I'm saying, it isn't appropriate for any lifeguard.

And you should know that.

Sean, this is different.

Look, he's an adult. I'm an adult.

It doesn't interfere with my work. Therefore, it's none of your business.

You're right. I'm just telling you, it's trouble.

No, it's potential trouble.

When and if it becomes trouble, then we'll talk.

Well, well.

I wasn't sure you were going to make it.

An invitation to the Hilton Hawaiian Village

and 13 dozen roses.

Pretty hard to ignore.

You look... hot. [light laugh]

You wanna get a drink?

You know what's amazing...

we just met and I have this incredible sense that I know you.

I know everything about you.

I know you so well, that I can tell you exactly what's going to happen.

You're not going to like hearing this,

but, you hate feeling that you're not in control.

Has this line ever worked for you?

It's a new approach. What do you think?

This isn't going to work.

-What? -I'm leaving.

-You're kidding, right? -No.

Why?

Am I attracted to you, Jared, or the memory of Ryan?

What's the difference?

It's too skitzo to deal with, so I'm not going to.

Thank you for the flowers and for the drink,

for the thought.

I'll see you in another life.

-[Allie] Shift's over. -Yup.

Time to go home.

Oh, get a good night's rest.

[sighs]

By the way, that was a very nice thing you did earlier today.

That's what a lifeguard's for.

Not talking about saving the boy. Talking about me.

You didn't want me making that rescue.

I just happen to run a little faster than you.

I got their first.

No, you were worried about me getting caught in the shore break.

You thought I'd get slammed because I've never worked Sandy's before.

It's a special place.

You have to have been there before and done it.

There's no words and nothing that can teach you, except living it.

Well, now I've been there.

Look here, someday you can teach me on one of your beaches, alright?

-Let's go home. -Okay.

Do you know where a Pete Chell is?

[sighs]

-Hey, Pete. -Hey.

How you doing?

Pretty good, today. What's up?

I brought you some Malasadas.

Wow. Malasadas.

That's great. The guys in the ward will love them.

Look at this... My right hand.

I've got some movement in the fingers.

Hey, that's great. I mean, it's a start.

Yeah. Doc said I might get partial use of that hand.

Wow. That's terrific.

I mean, that's just terrific.

[Jared] Hey.

I can't get you out of my mind.

I think you'll find a way.

I'm on my way out. I have to catch my flight on Hawaiian Air.

Convenient, don't you think?

For you or me?

[Jared] Both.

I'll be back. I promise.

Think it will ever make a difference?

[Dawn] Didn't anyone ever tell you, time heals all wounds?

[flight attendant] Aloha and welcome to Hawaiian Airlines

Flight 4 to San Francisco.

We hope you have a pleasant journey. Mahalo.

[ending theme song]
