(Chimera)

(All characters, locations, religions,)

(and incidents of this drama are fictional.)

(Final Episode)

The only one whom you love.

Shall I kill him?

I mean your son, Cha Jae Hwan.

I...

only have a daughter.

I think...

you have the wrong person.

Oh, I'm sorry.

I must be mistaken.

I'm a reporter.

A reporter of UBS. You've heard of it, right?

Actually, I came to ask you a few questions.

I read the memorandum written by Mr. Han Ju Seok.

But...

even after reading it multiple times,

there was something I couldn't understand.

The final goal of Chimera.

That man.

Why didn't you end everything 35 years ago?

Chimera's revenge can be completed only after you kill him.

Why did you stop before that final moment?

There's no way you forgave him.

You didn't, did you?

There must've been another reason.

A simple change of heart?

Or did you grow weary and give up?

Or is there another reason?

Tell me...

what you had on your mind in that final moment.

Your answer...

might be able to stop me.

Why didn't you say so?

Did you tell me to take a detour because of her?

You know what my life was like.

You know what family means to me.

Hyo Kyung is my daughter.

Your mother, Young Shin, gave birth to her.

But she's my daughter.

You must think I'm selfish.

But there is no parent...

who wouldn't get selfish when it comes to their kids.

But still, you should've told me.

If I had known she was alive...

I'm sorry.

Where is she?

You can't go out in this condition.

We must stop Kim Hyo Kyung.

Do you want to know...

why I stopped?

I didn't stop by myself.

Someone caused me...

to stop.

Do you have someone...

to stop you?

Don't be like an island.

You can't live like that.

I'm off to see Seo Hyun Tae.

For my final interview.

Do you have a message for him?

If...

you see Chimera, tell him that...

I understand...

and that I pity him.

Mom.

Mom, are you all right?

(Reporter, Investigative Journalism, Kim Hyo Kyung)

Mom, was this person here?

What did you talk about?

Mom.

You have to remember, Mom.

Director Seo.

It's bad.

A reporter was here.

She said she'd visit you.

What if she finds out about us?

Gun Young. Listen to me carefully and tell our captain.

Tell him to look into UBS Newsroom's reporter Kim Hyo Kyung.

I'm on her tail right now.

Find out who made the program. Fast.

Did you lose your appetite?

You canceled all your plans to come home early.

You must feel under the weather.

Honey.

I think I should...

visit Yoon Jin for a while.

You'll go to New York?

You want to vacate your position at a time like this?

I want to take a break.

Then spend a few days in my hospital.

I'll have Doctor Jang prescribe you some supplements.

Don't cause a fuss.

People would think you're guilty and on the run.

Honey. Why are you pretending you don't know?

Your brother must've told you.

That I killed him.

Leave it. I don't want to hear it.

Don't you know the situation I'm in?

Chimera will be here soon.

And...

you want me to sit and do nothing?

Then will you run away?

What will people say?

Are you...

worried about that?

About what people will say?

Your husband might lose his life.

Then just die.

What?

Rather than die a dog's death on the run,

die fighting like a tiger.

You...

My life's on the line and that's all you can say?

Not even a stranger would say that.

To marry you, I sat before your father,

bit my finger, and wrote a letter in blood.

Your father hated me so much,

he never looked at me even while we ate.

He intimidated me to the end.

At times like this, you remind me of him.

Why did you write that letter?

Because you loved me?

It wasn't love.

It was greed.

At the time,

you looked like a wild animal struggling to get out of a swamp.

Why did I want to accept you at the time?

I'll call the hospital.

Because it's urgent! We need it sooner!

What did he say? Does he have the number?

- Not yet. - Darn it.

What's taking you so long? Move faster.

Do you have anything?

I called her middle school.

She was a track-and-field athlete.

A runner?

What did you say she majored in?

Chemistry. She joined UBS as a science specialist.

An athlete who's smart too?

She'll be hard to catch.

Ask Agent Hathaway to come in quick.

Okay.

Captain, about Hanter Production.

I couldn't contact the CEO.

He emigrated to Australia in 2012.

He emigrated?

Then who's running the company now?

Previously, I mentioned Mr. Lee who was wrongfully killed...

as a suspect in the 1984 Chimera Case.

Yes. You said it could be an accidental death due to torture.

The people involved in Lee's death...

are being killed off...

one-by-one in 2019, 35 years after the fact.

That is the current Chimera Case the police are on.

The reporter of the original case as well as the detectives.

The victims all had something to do...

with Lee's death 35 years ago.

If that's the case, the police chief...

who was killed not long ago.

Was he related to this case too?

You could say he was at the core.

He was the detective who interrogated Lee 35 years ago,

and the day Lee died,

he was on night duty.

- Here he is. - He's here.

You prosecuted the Chimera Case 35 years ago.

Let him through.

Some say the suspect Lee Sang Woo's suicide was faked.

What do you say?

Is it true he died while he was being tortured?

That is a groundless suggestion.

Were you a part of the cover-up?

How dare you?

- Let him through. - Is that an admission?

(Uni Channel, Valkyrie)

(Like and subscribe)

Who are you?

I'm from the police.

Where is Kim Hyo Kyung?

She's not here. What is this about?

Is this where you broadcast Valkyrie live?

When was the show?

Oh, today's show was taped.

- It was taped? - Yes.

Hyo Kyung said she'd have a lot to do,

so we taped today's show yesterday.

Did she tell you that she'd be going anywhere?

No.

Thank you.

You're the CEO of Hanter Production. Right?

Yes, back in the day.

It was a club I made with my college friends.

But after our contract with the Ministry of Defense ended,

we couldn't make a profit.

Before I came here,

we went out of business in 2013.

You went out of business?

It says they're still open.

They've been paying the corporate tax too.

No way.

I'm here, so who would pay for that?

Then did you go through the process of closing yourself?

I let a trustworthy friend handle that for me.

Who is that friend?

Her name is Kim Hyo Kyung. We went to college together.

I believe she works as a reporter at a broadcasting station.

Was there anything unique about her while you worked together?

I'm not sure.

She's really smart and quick.

Oh, right. She's nice. Very nice.

(Cha Jae Hwan, Police Agency)

Did something happen to Kim Hyo Kyung?

Yes. I need to find her quickly.

She handed in her letter of resignation.

She resigned? When?

Two days ago.

She was upset over getting one of her items rejected.

Did she say anything about going somewhere?

No.

- Hey, Yoon Seok. - Yes, sir.

Did Kim Hyo Kyung tell you where she was going?

No.

Oh, she did ask me to look into something for her.

What was it?

Chairman Seo Hyun Tae's unofficial schedule.

His unofficial schedule?

Not his public affairs, but his private ones.

Where he eats and who he meets with.

Why would she want to know that?

She must want an interview with him for her Internet broadcast.

The Chimera case...

starts with the development of this substance called TH-5.

The case where the TH-5 developers each got murdered...

was the Chimera Case from 35 years ago.

Then how is Chairman Seo Hyun Tae of Seoryun Group...

connected to this case?

Chairman Seo Hyun Tae led the development of TH-5.

This business played a huge role...

in making him the leader of a wealthy conglomerate.

But weren't there a lot of problems with it during its development?

The process in which they got their patent is unclear.

They requested a patent for industrial use,

but then they received authorization for domestic use.

There is a lot of talk that Seo Hyun Tae,

a director of Taesam Chemical at the time,

used his influence to get it.

Is this Seoryun Medical Center?

Is Chairman Seo Hyun Tae in the VIP room?

Who is this security for?

This is an emergency situation!

What brings you here?

I'm reporter Kim Hyo Kyung from UBS Newsroom.

I'm here to see Chairman Seo.

You can't see him without making an appointment first.

If you leave your business card, we'll contact you later.

Please relay this message to Chairman Seo Hyun Tae.

I have something to discuss with him regarding Ms. Ryu Sung Hee.

(Reporter, Investigative Journalism, Kim Hyo Kyung)

Who?

She said it's regarding Ms. Ryu Sung Hee.

Should I send her away?

No.

Send her in.

Go on in.

Hello, Chairman Seo.

I hope you feel better. I heard you have a cold.

How did you know I was here?

This is a gift.

I asked for an interview with you multiple times,

so it's nice to finally meet you.

What did you need to tell me?

You have no idea how lucky you have been. Do you?

Did you know that the last target of Chimera 35 years ago...

was you?

Why did Chimera hate you so much?

I can't go about understanding...

everyone's story of why they hate me.

You know who Chimera is, don't you?

Chimera was arrested 35 years ago, and he's dead now.

Really?

Do you believe that?

Are you sure?

You're such an impudent young lady.

Aren't you Kim Hyung Gook's daughter?

I heard you have a great interest in the Chimera Case.

I've met many people like you before.

What?

Did you want to get my attention?

I appreciate the effort,

but you're going too far.

It seems there's been a misunderstanding.

Let me introduce myself to you again.

I'm not Kim Hyung Gook's biological daughter.

I was adopted.

My father is someone you know very well.

His name is Lee Sang Woo.

- Joong Yeop. - Yes.

Oh, dear.

Eugene. Can you help me?

Not as an FBI agent, but as a friend.

I've interviewed many people regarding Lee Sang Woo's death.

Son Wan Ki,

Han Ju Seok,

Hahm Yong Bok,

and Bae Seung Kwan.

What I have in these balloons isn't helium.

We used to use it often for children's field days.

Lighter than air and easy to obtain.

But it's highly explosive, so it was banned from use.

Hydrogen?

You know your chemicals.

You should, as the key person of the TH-5 project.

You're...

Chimera?

Are you disappointed?

What do you want?

A simple answer.

Hey, miss.

I don't know a thing about your father.

I thought you'd be different.

How are you all exactly the same,

even as you face your death?

You don't know anything.

He worked at your factory,

and he got arrested because you ratted him out.

Yet you don't know anything?

I'm just an informant.

I don't know a thing about your father's death.

On that day, Seung Kwan was on night duty.

Seung Kwan killed him by mistake,

then came up with a scheme to cover it up with the other officers!

I really had no idea until this day!

If you had no idea,

then why did you try to kill Lee Joong Yeop?

You went out of your way...

to bribe the agents of the prosecution.

What's the reason?

What were you so afraid of?

(Seoryun Medical Center)

You were afraid of Lee Joong Yeop.

You thought he was Chimera.

You were afraid he'll come to you to get his father's revenge.

Why?

Because you were involved in Lee Sang Woo's death.

Did you do it?

Did you kill...

Lee Sang Woo?

(Night Duty Room)

I'm sorry.

(Attorney's ID: Kim Hyung Gook)

(Attorney's ID: Kim Hyung Gook)

August 8, 1984, the night of Lee Sang Woo's death.

What were you doing then?

Did you kill him?

It was Kim Hyung Gook, wasn't it?

He told you, didn't he?

Fine.

Do you seriously think someone like you can kill me?

Go ahead and try.

So what if this is hydrogen?

What can you do anyway?

Do whatever you want!

You little...

The power of analog technology that passes through metal detectors.

Hey. Don't do it.

Don't do it, you brat!

Now, make the choice...

for your fate.

What is it?

- Where's Chairman Seo Hyun Tae? - He's inside.

Move aside.

- Mr. Chairman. - Hey.

Hey.

Stay.

Chimera was here.

If I make a move, she'll blow this place up remotely.

That woman. That reporter is Chimera.

These are hydrogen balloons.

It might blow up. Be careful.

Be careful.

Careful. Just stay still.

Even explosive gas is safe without an ignition device.

There's no ignition device. You're safe.

- Where did she go? - She left just now.

- Hurry up. - Hurry up and get out.

Lock up the exits,

including the annex and the parking lot.

Lee, run to the security office and get the security footage.

- Yes, sir. - Let's go.

You two, stand guard at the main entrance.

Come in quickly.

Hey, what happened?

She left just now, so she couldn't have gone far.

I'll check the wards again.

(Camera 047)

(Parking Fee Machine)

(Seoryun Medical Center)

(Health Promotion Center)

Gun Young.

The new annex.

The rooftop?

Okay.

(Stairwell 5)

Kim Hyo Kyung!

It's over now.

Your hideout at Hanter Production.

We raided it.

It's over.

Have you met...

the devil?

I have.

Five of them.

What do you think they said?

The devil...

thinks it's human.

If just one of them had told the truth,

if just one of them had apologized,

I'd have...

willingly stopped there.

Ms. Kim.

Don't move!

This contains...

the truth from 35 years ago.

I came this far because of this.

Achieving your goal...

means losing it too.

What should I...

do now?

Hyo Kyung.

Can you keep this for me?

I will.

I'll do that.

Come with me.

No, wait.

Hyo Kyung.

Stop all this now.

Come with me.

You must see your brother.

Will you promise me one thing?

That you will find out...

who shot my brother?

Promise me.

I promise.

I will catch him.

So...

Yes.

The annex?

Someone said they took pity on me.

Can I...

believe that?

Come to me now.

A mythical being with a lion's head,

a goat's body, and a snake's tail.

A monster that kills with its fiery breath.

Chimera.

Chimera, the monster that plagued the humans,

died at the hands of a hero.

A beautiful young man riding Pegasus, the winged horse...

called Bellerophon.

(Joongsan Police Station)

Captain.

It's a copy of the recording we found on Hyo Kyung's phone.

The truth you looked everywhere for.

It's in there.

Chairman Seo confessed.

That on the night of August 8, 1984,

at Macheon Police Department,

the man who killed your father Lee Sang Woo...

was himself.

I think...

this was what Hyo Kyung tried so hard to get to the very end.

This shouldn't be shared, but I'll take the fall for it.

The statutes have expired.

And a confession alone means nothing,

so we can't charge him.

Do what you want with it.

And this...

was found in Kim Hyo Kyung's hideout.

(Lee Joong Yeop)

(It hurts me to think that my decision may hurt you.)

(Don't be sad, Cerberus.)

It hurts me to think that...

my decision may hurt you.

Don't be sad, Cerberus.

I'm not proud of what I have done,

but I don't regret it.

So take the path that will lead to no regrets.

Goodbye,

my brother.

(Goodbye, my brother.)

(So take the path that will lead to no regrets.)

What brings you here?

Okay. Let's have a drink.

Sure.

Why is everyone so down?

We solved the case.

So...

Is everyone up for a second round?

What about karaoke? What do you think, Detective Im?

I have a bit of a cold right now...

It's my second child's birthday. I'm sorry.

I have a date today too.

I have to go back in.

I have to analyze security footage of where Lee Joong Yeop was shot.

I guess everyone's busy.

Then I guess it's just you and me.

I thought you didn't find anything on the security footage.

Oh, right.

It was installed in the building across the street.

We got it today.

I'll do it. Put it on my desk and go home.

Can I do that?

Then I'll leave the security footage on your desk and go home.

(Maintenance Division)

(Joongsan Police Station)

Are you looking for something?

What?

Oh, it's nothing. I was just...

For someone who loves to drink,

I was surprised to see you didn't drink any...

when Ha Na mentioned the security footage.

You can look all you want, but it's pointless.

There were no security cameras in the building across the street.

Hey... Well...

Jae Hwan.

(KCSI, Gunshot Residue Analysis Results)

We couldn't find the gun,

but there was gunshot residue found on his clothes.

(Residue left on hands or clothes after shooting a gun)

Where did he get the gun?

It seems that he took it from the items we seized...

in Chinatown last year.

So you want to arrest the chairman of a conglomerate...

for aiding and abetting a murder.

How unprecedented.

Are you scared?

What?

If you're obsessed with the idea of climbing up the ladder,

I guess we can't investigate.

What will you do?

The lawyer you requested will be here soon.

Tell me if you need anything.

Choi Sang Seop was the judge who gave you the warrant. Right?

He...

has a rough past with Seoryun.

I'm saying you didn't get the warrant because you did a good job.

Don't work too hard.

Everything in life has already been decided.

Chief Bae...

believed that he killed Lee Sang Woo until the moment he died.

Did you think you could hide it until the very end?

For people like us,

crimes aren't crimes.

They're just mistakes.

Have you ever met the devil?

Apparently, the devil thinks it's human.

I don't think my job is done here just because I cuffed you.

I'll make sure you're punished for abetting Lee Joong Yeop's death.

The voice file which Ms. Kim Hyo Kyung left...

will be disclosed one day.

When that day comes,

I wonder if you will...

still think of this as a mistake.

Detective Cha.

How's your mother?

I heard she isn't well.

You always did seem to have lots of questions about my mother.

Is there something you want to say to me?

It's nothing.

Did you make peace with the owner of that painting?

Director Lee Hwa Jung?

Well, I wouldn't say I made peace,

but she gave me tickets...

to the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Christmas concert.

But of course, she'll take that painting back.

She really is something.

Her husband is locked up in jail right now,

and it's because of you.

I think that's just who she is.

A complete businesswoman.

What about you, Eugene? When are you leaving?

After Christmas.

Are you going to leave without seeing Detective Cha?

Both Kim Hyo Kyung and I knew...

that Ryu Sung Hee was Chimera.

I thought Hyo Kyung would disclose everything,

but she didn't mention Ryu Sung Hee on the web or elsewhere.

Why?

You know,

I hated Hyo Kyung.

I thought she justified the means for the sake of her purpose.

But I'm not so sure anymore.

Was Ms. Kim's act of crime simply an atrocious crime?

Or was it an attempt to disclose the truth?

Also, was Han Ju Seok really in love?

Or was it another crime to cover up his other crimes?

And 35 years ago, did Chimera, Ryu Sung Hee,

get reasonable revenge as a mother who lost her daughter?

I have a clear answer as a profiler,

but I don't think it's an answer I have as a person.

It's odd.

The more I try to understand humans, the more impossible it gets.

Humans will never understand humans.

That's the first step we take in understanding humans.

I found the truth and saw everything come to an end.

What do I do with my life now?

Grab a beer at Tyne Bridge,

meet your family, and hang out with friends.

You can spend your time doing that.

And occasionally,

will you think of us too?

I heard you were leaving today.

Let me give you a ride.

No, I called a taxi.

I heard Seo Hyun Tae was sent to the prosecution.

It was the last promise I made with Hyo Kyung.

To catch the criminal.

Before you leave,

is there anything you have to say to me?

I'm not worried about you.

You're a man who would choose the right path no matter what.

I'm sorry.

No one has apologized to you yet.

I'm so sorry.

It wasn't your fault.

We were supposed to grab a drink, but we never got to do that.

I'm sure we'll keep that promise one day. Probably.

One day.

Take care.

Chairman Seo Hyun Tae of Seoryun Group,

who's on trial for murder, was released this morning.

The court acquitted the series of his charges...

due to insufficient evidence.

The prosecution is known to have given up on making an appeal,

receiving quite a bit of criticism.

So? When will my wife get home?

She'll help your daughter move in,

then stay in New York for about a month.

Look what this family has become.

She's not home in time for her husband's release?

What about Assemblyman Lee? Why is he under the radar?

His condition hasn't been too great ever since he left the party.

Leave the party? Hardly. He was kicked out.

Lee Min Ki is a proud man. His blood must be boiling.

You received gifts and messages.

I checked off the ones you should call back today,

so take a look at the list after you get some rest.

I'll shower first. Bring everything in.

Yes, sir.

(Chairman Seo, stay healthy. From Seoryun Group's Executives)

(Seoryun Group's Executives)

(Dear Chairman Seo Hyun Tae)

(We wish you the best of health and luck.)

(Seoryun Group's Executives)

(Seoryun Group's Executives)

(Prime Minister Choi San)

(The day of the Lord will come like a thief.)

(The heavens will disappear with a roar,)

(the elements will be destroyed by fire,)

(and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.)

Around 11am this morning,

Seoryun Group's chairman Seo Hyun Tae...

died in his residence in an unexplained explosion.

In October of last year,

he had been detained for commissioning a murder,

but was found not guilty and released after 117 days.

Some cautiously say...

that this incident, based on the pattern, is an extension...

of the Chimera case that has been ongoing...

since last August.

There were four victims,

and the case was closed...

when the main suspect Kim died right before her arrest.

Is Chimera who was believed to be dead back?

That is the talk of the town.

Hello, Eugene.

How are you?

I received the copy of your book that you sent me.

My mother is fine.

She doesn't recognize people now.

- It's quite cold. - Yes.

Shall we have dumpling soup for dinner?

I was impressed by your book's preface.

"The present is a shadow of the past,"

"and none of us can be free of the past."

I feel anxious.

Because I'm so happy.

I wish time would freeze.

Tomorrow, I think everything will disappear.

"But instead of running away or denying it,"

"once you gain the courage to face it,"

"you truly become free from it."

I keep having scary dreams.

You turn cold,

people die,

and the world burns.

Nothing bad will happen.

Right, Director Seo?

Our baby.

I think it's a boy.

I just have a feeling...

it is.

Spring has come, but the wind still bites.

Until the days feel warmer,

I must go on bearing and fighting.

(Thank you for watching "Chimera".)

(Chimera)
