[light laugh]

[Sean] This training exercise is designed to test endurance,

physical agility in the water and overall stamina.

How much of a beating your body is willing to take.

Like those old western movies, where they pull the guy behind the wagon.

[laughs]

Hang on, guys!

[Sean] We're gonna take it up another notch.

[Allie] Hey, Sean. I don't think they can take much more.

[Jessie] Oh, they'll be fine. Look, they're loving it.

[JD screaming]

[girls laughing]

There goes JD.

-[Allie] Are you alright? -[JD] I'm okay.

[Allie] He's fine. He's waving.

[Newman screaming]

-[Jessie] There goes Newmie. -[girls laughing]

Bye, Newmie.

[upbeat music]

Where's Jason?

[Jessie] He's gone. I can't see him.

[Dawn] Oh, my God.

He found the path of least resistance.

-What? -He's gone under.

[upbeat music]

[Kekoa] Oh, look. There he is!

[upbeat music]

[JD] Woo-hoo! Jason! Alright!

[Kekoa] Wow! He's incredible.

That kid is good.

-I know. -Whoa!

He's speeding up. He's trying to knock him off.

[girls screaming]

[upbeat music]

He's all instinct.

[Dawn] Oh, he fell down.

[yelping and screaming]

-[Sean] Good going. -[Jessie] Yeah, my man!

[Jason] Oh, man.

Hey, guys. What happened to you?

We got blown off. What made you go under?

I was getting hammered. It's like surfing big waves.

When you get pounded, just go under the wave.

[Jason] It's like a freeway.

Smooth, slick. I could've went forever.

I gotta try that again. Hey, Sean!

-Yeah? -Take us around again, baby.

[Newman] The kid's gonna show us a little technique.

Alright.

[Jessie screams]

[upbeat music]

[opening theme song]

[opening music]

-[Miko] Excuse me. -[Dawn] Can I help you?

I'm looking for Sean Monroe.

Miko? Hi. It's good to see you.

It's good to see you, too.

This is Miko Matsumoto. She's going to be joining our team.

-This is Jason. -Hey, Miko.

And JD.

Hey, Miko. Welcome to the team.

Thanks.

[speaking in Japanese]

-If you need anything just let me know. -Thank you, I will.

Miko's going to be our dispatcher. And she's excellent in the water.

You're going to love it.

I know I will.

Let me show you the com-center. Get you settled in.

Hey, Sean...

-You've got mail. -[Dawn laughs]

Thank you, Jason.

[suspenseful music]

[softly] Oh, my God.

[Dawn] It's a subpoena.

Hey, what's your name?

-Scott. -Scott, my name is Allie.

You look like you could use some sun block.

This is called Sea And Ski. Do you know why it's called Sea And Ski?

Why?

Because you can get really burned in both of those places.

Do you want some?

Where do you want it?

-Can you put some here? -Oh, yeah. Right here?

-Some here. -Oh, and some here?

-And some here. -And way down here?

Okay. You have fun.

-[Jason] JD. -Yo.

-[Jason] What are you working on? -It's a re-breather. Check it out.

It's a plastic mouthpiece.

No, it's a re-breather.

It looks like you stole it from a regulator.

How's the thing work?

Well, the air you exhale contains carbon dioxide,

plus a lot of unused oxygen.

This dumps the CO-2, recycles the oxygen

and allows you to re-breath your own air.

-Really? -Really.

-This little thing? -That little thing.

How long's it good for?

I don't know.

-And it works? -I don't know.

You don't know if this thing works?

I haven't finished it yet.

Where do you come up with this?

-Saw it in a movie. -[light laugh] Right.

JD, the stuff you find in movies is like Star Wars or James Bond.

Special effects, you know? Tricks.

[JD] I know, but the theory behind some of it is scientifically sound.

-Like the re-breather? -Exactly.

There's no way that's gonna work.

If it worked, would it help in a rescue?

JD, it's not going to work.

If, I'm saying, if it worked, would it help in a rescue?

It could.

If there's a chance,

isn't it worth a little of my effort to try and figure it out?

If you put it that way.

I've got some other stuff you gotta test.

-More stuff? -More stuff.

[Allie] Hey.

Brian want us to move to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tower.

Ah. Come on!

Last one there buys lunch.

[laughing] Jessie!

Why is everything with you a competition?

-Me? You're just as bad. -I am not.

Yes you are. You hate to lose.

What about that card game with Kekoa and Jason?

Cards are different.

Oh... Right.

Okay.

Last one to the last tower buys lunch.

Go!

[laughing]

[upbeat music]

[laughing]

[upbeat music]

[continue laughing]

[laughing]

[upbeat music]

[upbeat music]

[laughing]

Wow! You're quick.

Not quick enough to keep from buying you lunch.

[both laugh]

What's going on? Is everything alright?

Yeah, why?

You were running. I thought there was a problem.

[girls laughing]

No.

-I thought you might need back-up. -[Jessie] Well, we might.

But we're alright right now. Thanks anyway.

Okay. Miko, everything's okay. West end of Waikiki.

-[Jason whistles] -[JD] Hey.

-Bro, you look goofy. -Hey, it works.

-I wouldn't wear one. -Yeah.

When you see how much faster I go, you'll want one.

Doubt it. What the hell's that?

-It's a mono-fin. -A mono-fin?

Yeah, a mono-fin. Improves performance.

JD, you're wearing this goofy skin-tight suit

and you got this idiot-size fin.

-What's this all about? -Getting to the victim quicker.

Great. I don't think it's gonna make you faster.

Yeah, tough guy. Okay.

Victim's at the buoy.

Go!

[light laugh] I'll be there before you can get that idiot fin on.

We'll see.

[action music]

[action music]

[action music]

[JD] What took you so long?

Dude. You went like a bullet.

-Goofy, huh? -Yeah, but fast.

Well, go in.

I told you he's chicken.

I'm not chicken.

[kid 2] Remember, to get in the club, you gotta stay down there.

[kid 2] Go on in.

You have to be in there for five minutes.

[suspenseful music]

[screaming]

[screaming]

Help!

Help me!

Help me!

Help me!

Help!

Help me! Help me!

Somebody get me out of here! Help!

Help!

Scott.

Hey. What are you doing here?

Where's your Mum?

Is she staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village?

Hilton Hawaiian.

[Allie] Hilton Hawaiian Village. This is Tower 1. Over

[Miko] Roger, 1. We read you. Over.

I have a little lost boy.

[Allie] Blond hair, blue eyes. His name is Scott.

-How old are you, Scott? -Four.

He's four years old. And what's your last name?

Scott.

No, your other name.

Scott.

Oh, okay. His name is Scott.

[Miko] Hold him with you.

Yeah, it'll be okay.

We'll let you know when the mother shows up.

Thank you.

Hey.

Hi there, cutie. You like trucks?

[Jessie] There you go. That's for you.

Very resourceful.

Oh, experience. This is 80% of what we do in LA.

[Jessie] Lost kids.

[Allie] It happens so easily.

Just turn your head and whoosh, there goes little Scottie.

Yeah, mommy's fallen asleep and the kids could be gone for hours

and they wake up and think they've been gone for 10 minutes.

I bet this little nipper's already been missed.

His Mum must be worried sick.

I hope you're right.

[Allie sighs]

Hey.

[kid] Help! Help me! Get me out of here!

Newmie, you on?

[Newman] I read you, Sean.

We have a kid trapped in the run-off canal.

He's pinned against the protective grate.

[Newman] We're on our way.

[Brian] We're lowering Kai down.

[suspenseful music]

Help!

I can't hold on. Help!

[Kai] Hang on. I'm coming.

Alright. Calm down. I'm here.

I can't hold on much longer.

[Kai] Hold on. Hold on.

-[kid] Get me out of here. -[Kai] Hold on.

[Kai] Just hold on. I'll be right back.

[kid] Where're you going?

[Sean] What's it look like down there?

I can only get to him if I get into the water.

You gotta get me lower. You gotta give me more line.

Newmie, stand off.

[Newman] Roger that.

Kai, you watch the current.

Don't worry about it. Just give me more line.

[suspenseful music]

[Kai] Hang on. Just try and hang on, okay?

[kid] I can't. Help!

[Kai inhaling]

Help!

[Kai] I need more slack.

Just hold on. I'll get you out. Just hang on!

[kid] Help!

[Kai] More line!

I can't! I can't hold on.

I'm getting sucked in.

[kid] I can't.

[kid] Please!

[Kai] Give me your hand, okay.

Come on. You can do it.

[kid] Help!

[Kai] Reach out!

[Kai screaming]

[man] The line's cut!

-[Kai screaming] -[kid] No!

[kid] Help! Get me out of here!

[suspenseful music]

Newmie, we lost Kai. He's probably coming your way.

Roger that, Sean. We'll keep an eye out.

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[Sean] Stand-by, guys. He could be unconscious.

[Kekoa] I think I see him.

There he is! I got him.

[Jason] He's unconscious.

[Kekoa] Careful...

[Newman] Pick him up. Alright. Easy now.

[Jason] He banged his head.

[Kekoa] Careful. He's coming around. Easy with him.

[JD] Kai, you're gonna be okay. Catch your breath.

[Kai] Oh, man. I'm okay.

Sean, we've got him on board. We'll maintain a back-up position.

We're going to need a better rig. Call for a crane.

An extension arm that can swing me.

[Brian] Okay.

Help!

Hang on, kid. Hang on!

Sean, we'll swim in from here. Bring him out the same way Kai came.

Negative on that. The current's too strong.

You won't get close to swimming against it.

No, but I can.

Tell Sean we'll do the '๏ฟฝride and tied.' Just like before.

Except this time with the speed of the lure and what I can generate,

whip me in and force me through the current.

Sean, you hear that?

I hear that. Hold your positions.

Closest crane is an hour away.

Alright. Do what you can from your end.

We'll keep trying on ours.

I can't do it. I can't hold on!

Take me straight for that channel,

then cut a big circle, whip me around with everything you've got.

-You can't hold your breath long. -I have to.

Sure this is going to work?

It better. It's the only chance the kid has.

[Newman] Okay. Hang on. Here we go.

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[Jason] More speed! We're gonna need more!

Much more!

[suspenseful music]

[kid] I'm losing it!

I swear, I'm losing it.

They're coming for you from the other side.

It's too late. I can't hold on.

What's your name?

What?

What's your name?

Lonnie. Why?

Lonnie. That's my brother's name.

Listen to me, Lonnie. I want you to hold on.

You're not going to let go because there's no way I'm going to let you go.

[Jason] You gotta get closer.

Closer. Faster. Go!

Kick it, Newmie!

[speeding up]

I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.

Don't let go, Lonnie!

I just don't have anything left.

[Newman] Hang on. This is it.

[Jason] Go, JD, go! Now!

[suspenseful music]

[kid] No!

There he goes.

He's coming, Sean.

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[JD] I got you! I got you!

Take a breath.

Catch a breath. Breathe easy.

He's in, Newmie.

[JD] Okay, listen to me.

All you have to do is hold your breath.

I'm gonna take you out of here, okay?

[kid] No. I can't. I can't hold my breath.

[JD] Yes, you can.

Listen to me. Once we're under, just point your hands in front of you.

We're gonna shoot out of here like a bullet.

I promise.

It'll be the ride you'll never forget.

Okay. Breathe with me.

On three. One...

Two, three!

[suspenseful music]

They're on their way out. Stand by for pick-ups.

10-4, Sean. We'll keep a look-out.

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[gasping]

-Are you okay? -Yeah.

Look.

Think we should let them worry a little more?

Neh...

You're no fun.

[JD] Yo! Hey!

[Sean sighs]

What took you so long?

Funny.

Yeah, real funny, JD.

We got them on board. Everything turned out good.

Yeah. Yeah. Ain't that the truth.

[suspenseful music]

I've got a problem that I thought would go away, but hasn't.

Tomorrow or the next day, it's gonna come through that door and I...

I thought I should give you a head's up.

Sounds serious.

It is.

This is really difficult for me.

Here...

I've been named in a wrongful death suit.

Pertaining to something while you were on duty?

Yeah.

Well, it happens.

A grand jury's been called.

[Dawn] There may be criminal charges.

[Sean] The county's probably just trying to cover it's ass.

[Dawn] Probably.

[Sean] It's tough, the family of the victim can't handle the loss.

They need a target for their rage and the natural solution is the lifeguard.

There's more to it than this, isn't there?

JD was with me in Florida.

[Dawn] He's involved in this too.

[upbeat music]

Hey, you. What're you doing here?

[Kekoa sighs]

I just overheard Sean and Dawn talking

and apparently she is in a lot of trouble back in Florida

for something she did with another lifeguard.

Who'd believe that Dawn would be involved with another lifeguard?

Not me. Never me.

[light laugh]

It's JD...

[suspenseful music]

JD?

[Kekoa] When he was back in Florida, he was involved with...

I mean, he knew Dawn.

JD?

[Kekoa] I'm really sorry, Jessie, but I gotta go on patrol with Newmie.

But I just thought it would be better, if you knew.

Yeah. Thanks.

JD knew Dawn in Florida?

Why wouldn't he tell us?

[JD] Wanted to see me?

I understand you two knew each other before you came here...

Yeah. In Florida.

[Dawn] JD, no one on Team Baywatch can know about us.

It's because of what happened in Florida?

It was my idea not to tell you.

I thought it would be better if no one knew we had a relationship.

Alright. What happened?

A civilian and...

a lifeguard died during a rescue.

And I did something really stupid.

I perjured myself.

She was protecting the lifeguard's reputation.

Yeah, I didn't want his family to know.

Now it's all going to come out, anyway.

The guy, Leon Travis, what a lifeguard.

He was having a lot of problems.

Chemical...

Yeah, alcohol.

Everyone knew.

He seemed to never catch a break. We all tried to help.

Okay. How'd it go down?

I was working one tower away from Leon.

It was a slow day.

I could watch my water and his. No problem.

We're about to go off-duty and Leon decides to go for a swim.

Probably trying to sober up.

He got in trouble.

A civilian, just some man on the beach, went in to save him.

It was a rough day and now, they're both in trouble.

I went for the civilian first.

He was fine when we reached the sand.

And then his heart gave out.

Failure from exertion.

-So, they both died? -Yeah.

And you tweaked the story.

Leon had three kids.

I figured it basically didn't matter how the story came out,

since they were both dead and I was the only witness.

It was arrogance, Sean.

It was me trying to control everything.

Fix everything. It was a foolish thing to do.

Alright. Who brought the suit?

Leon's wife.

Perfect.

That's the thanks you get.

They either get me for negligence, dereliction of duty or perjury.

And either way, my reputation as a lifeguard,

which is the only thing I truly treasure, is ruined.

No, it's not. I'm gonna handle this.

It's too late.

[Sean] Dawn, listen to me.

I'll take care of it. I promise you.

[sobbing]

[suspenseful music]

[JD sighs]

I don't know what to say.

I'm sorry.

It's okay.

Maybe it's better that it all came out like this.

Get this weight off my chest.

I'm sorry I got you involved.

It's okay.

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

[girls laughing]

-[man] Hey, ladies... -[woman] Hi!

-What's going on? -What's happening?

Sure is strange that no one's reported him missing.

Except for we've got bigger problems.

[Jessie] Those two girls.

[girls laughing]

Over there!

[girls screaming]

I've got it. You keep an eye on Scott.

Help!

[action music]

[girl] Hurry. My friend is drowning. Help!

Hurry. My friend, she's caught underneath.

[Jessie] Get to shore.

-[Jessie] Are you okay? -[coughing]

Hold on to this. Hold on.

It's okay. Relax. Take deep breaths. Are you alright?

Give me your bag.

I got it. I'm going to help you swim to shore. Alright?

Hold on to me and hold on to the that.

[Allie] Jessie, look at this little kid. He's asleep.

Wow. I guess we are going to have to turn him over to the local authorities.

I don't understand

how someone would not miss a boy as beautiful as Scott.

[Miko over the radio] Allie...

I'm on.

We've located Scott's mother.

Great.

Is she okay?

Yeah. She's fine.

I would have thought she'd be dead. This boy's been missing for hours.

[Miko] The mother says that she saw him a few minutes ago.

I told you, she probably fell asleep.

[Miko] The mother wants to know if you can bring Scott.

She can't come and get him?

Hey, I'm just the relay station.

We'll bring him.

You stay. I'll take him down.

Come on, you.

Let's go find your Mum.

Here's a little wager.

A competition.

I bet you anything you want

that you won't even get so much as a thank you.

I bet you.

[Allie laughing] We'll see.

[Allie] Come on. We're going to meet your Mummy.

You'll like that, huh?

You okay?

Ah!

See, there's your Mum.

Where have you been? Oh!

I don't understand it.

I turn my back on you for one minute and poof, you disappear.

Look at you. You're a mess.

There are smudges all over your face. Have you been eating candy?

I might have known.

I'll bet you didn't even have a good lunch, did you?

Spent all your time playing in the sand.

Bye, Scott!

Jessie wins again.

[suspenseful music]

[Sean] As a district attorney, you should know that the county you represent

allowed a known alcoholic to remain on duty.

Leon Travis repeatedly went to his supervisor and he was ignored.

If you allow this case to continue, that will come out.

Of course, you should settle.

Your county's completely negligent.

I realize that, but Miss Masterton was only trying to do her duty.

She was protecting your reputation and of the dead lifeguard.

You're forcing her to become a witness for the plaintiff.

Listen, we all wish it could be different, but it's not.

Just tell them that unless I see that in writing by tomorrow morning,

Miss Masterton's attorney may be forced to file against your county.

Yeah.

Alright. I'll wait to hear from you.

[sighs]

[light music]

[light music]

I want to talk to you about this Dawn and Florida stuff.

JD, I don't need an explanation, okay?

Fine, but I need to talk about it.

Dawn asked me not to tell anyone that we knew each other in Florida.

So I didn't.

I didn't think it would matter.

It doesn't.

But it does, because it seems like I'm being deceitful.

It was deceitful, JD.

I can't forgive it, so I'm going to ignore it.

And the reason I can do that is because it's so not like you.

You and I hate lies.

If I thought you were a liar, we couldn't even be friends, but we are,

aren't we?

Yes! Of course we're friends.

And it didn't happen. Just leave it at that.

How sad.

Why do you say that?

Because, there's so little passion left between us,

you can't even get angry.

[light music]

[Sean] It's over.

-Don't tease me. -I just got the call. They settled.

You're gonna get the paper work in the morning.

[Dawn sighs]

You know...

you try to tell the truth,

but sometimes, some way, somehow,

you know that there's a place where the truth will hurt innocent people.

So, you tell an untruth.

And you wait for it to come and get you, because you know it will.

You just don't know when.

Well, your waiting's over. And so is your fear.

You're a wonderful friend, Sean.

Now, that is about the nicest thing you could have said.

So! You've thrown us off cliffs, made us do absolutely insane ocean swims,

manic jet ski pick-ups and yet, here we stand.

[Sean] And you've done great.

So, bring it on, whatever it is that's hatched in that sadistic brain of yours.

Well, I never thought I would say this,

but I've actually enjoyed your tests.

Yeah, me too.

-Yeah, most of them. -[laughing]

What you're gonna learn through this whole thing

is that the harder you try to make us crack, the tighter we get.

You can't discourage us. You can't beat us. Right guys?

[all] That's right!

Well, that was never my intent.

I brought you here as a way of rewarding you.

A treat.

My way of telling you how well you have done.

-And all I get is abuse. -[light laugh]

-[Allie] Oh, I love treats. -So do I.

-[continuous laughing] -I'm scared.

We're going to walk out and lay back.

Let the water cover us and look up.

[Jason] Then what?

Magic.

[upbeat music]

[upbeat music]
