Original subtitles

He was the first one I said I love you to.

Haiden was just so intimidating.

He knew all the cool new restaurants,

the latest design collaborations...

He had a real eye for predicting color trends.

He always said the right thing, like some movie script.

And he was into me...

He took you under his wing.

He turned me around.

I was so out of place.

Not anymore.

Not anymore.

You know, he changed too.

Maybe he wants to get back together?

Yikes.

Tiffany, he took the batteries out of your remote

when he moved out.

You don't think that's why Haiden called, do you?

I don't think he wants to return

AA batteries two years later, no.

No, I mean what if he wants to apologize

for the way things ended?

Uh, maybe...

Okay, which one says, "I'm over you, Haiden,

but feast your eyes on this"?

This will give him regret.

Thanks, Bobbi, you're a lifesaver.

Action.

So, I really like to incorporate older pieces

in the spaces I design, so it doesn't feel like

we just pulled a bunch of new furniture.

This piece needs to go on that wall, please.

What time for the Carters' return home for the big reveal?

Three.

I found porch brackets on the side of the road,

threw them into my trunk, and now they're bookends!

And, cut.

Nice!

Isn't that cutting it kind of close?

Oh, come down... right there. Thank you.

I keep my promises...

Tiff...

This family's been living out of a motel

for the last couple of weeks.

Hold that.

When do we not finish on time, Liz?

Whoa, gotta get to you now

I need you somehow, some way

 Whoa, you're my blue heaven

 I need you right now

 To make it okay

Thank you so much.

Oops, sorry.

Didn't mean to mess up your perfectly combed hair.

I hope you don't mind, I ordered us mimosas.

I don't.

Wow, you look fantastic.

Oh, this? Just threw it on.

You look the same, in a good way.

Thank you.

So, how are you?

I'm good. Yeah, the show's great.

Just came from a reno, actually.

Everything's fantastic. Things are well.

Well, I am glad to hear that.

Congrats on the show. Sounds like you have a hit.

Yeah, thank you.

Right I mean, it's about time.

I've produced so many of these things

and Bennie and Fin have been great to work with.

She actually reminds me of a younger version of you.

So, the reason I called was...

I'm not supposed to say anything,

but out of respect for you,

I want to be the first to tell you.

I'm coming onto your show next week.

Oh, like for a visit?

I start Restoration Project as a producer.

We already have a producer.

I know, and she is great.

But, there will be two of us now.

The network wants to make some changes.

I haven't heard anything.

You will soon.

What changes?

I can't say anything.

Why not?

Because I signed an NDA.

Haiden, just tell me...

I shouldn't even be here.

Everyone believes in you at HDC!

And this is gonna be a good thing.

I'll be there every day collaborating with you.

Just like old times.

I just... I thought you should know.

Well, thank you.

So... how are your parents?

Good!

Can't bring them to set anymore, they get way too excited.

Did you know?

Know what?

Haiden.

What about him?

Did he return the batteries?

He's coming onto our show as a producer.

Yeah, and I'm pregnant with cats.

Seriously Liz, it's happening.

No wait, no one said anything to me.

Yeah. He said the network wants to make some changes.

He didn't say what.

Okay, I'll make some calls.

Thank you.

Oh, hey everyone! Crunch time!

Family is on their way. Reveal in an hour!

Where's the dining table?

Won't you be my honey pie?

Sir!

Sir, hi!

He's in the zone.

Really? I need him in this time zone.

Hey.

Where's Graham?

Graham's baby girl was born this morning.

Right. And you are?

Brooks.

Brooks. So, the Carters are going to be here

in less than an hour and I'm still missing a table.

The table's still cooking.

This was supposed to be finished hours ago!

I'm sorry, I came in at the last minute.

But I can rock and roll

and get this to you as soon as possible.

Listen, sir...

Brooks is fine.

Maybe you're not understanding me.

This show is called Restoration Project.

In each house, we restore an heirloom

to be the thematic heart of the renovation.

This table is not only the focal point of the room,

it's the focal point of my entire episode!

Got it.

Do you wanna join in?

What?

Sometimes when I get stressed,

I just grab some tools and get after it, you know?

No, thank you.

What is this? What did you do?

It was real boring, so I gave it some movement

to match the outside of the house, the porch...

No, that's not what I specified!

Graham told me to use my instincts, so...

Our viewers want restrained elegance.

Our sponsors want modern minimalism.

Great! What do you want?

Uh...

Oh, Andy?

Tell the driver to take the Carters the long way.

Just stop at a coffee shop, or something?

-Sure! -Thank you.

All right, let's after it!

Or not.

I need you to plug me back in though, because I...

Okay, sure.

Ready?

The Carters are pulling up!

Okay, thanks.

Watch your head.

What did you do?

Hey, uh, where's the shut off?

Where did you guys install the shut-off valve?

There's no shut-off valve!

Where did you install the shut-off valve?

Is there nobody? Somebody help!

Welcome home!

Okay, are you ready to see your restored home?

Welcome back to RP with T!

We're here with the Carters to see their interior renovation.

Someone shut this off! Please.

-Are you guys ready? -Yes.

Okay, go on in.

Welcome home.

Can I show you around?

What kind of show is this?

All good.

Just a little rinse down.

So, could we come back in again

and then you guys could act surprised?

Like, "Oh, wow! This looks great!" Yeah?

Okay, great.

Action!

Wow, this is insane!

Cut.

Don't say insane, please.

What do you want us to say?

Like, "Oh! Ah!"

Okay, we can do that.

Take 11.

Action!

Wow!

No damage!

Could we do that again, but more...

real?

We're doing our best.

We're not actors.

Do you guys want to go see your new bathroom?

Yeah? Okay.

Well, that was a dumpster fire.

It worked enough.

How's Dan liking working from home?

Oh, he loves it.

In fact, he's home right now making us food for the week.

He says it relaxes him.

Relax away Dan, right?

Oh, did I show you this yet?

There's this artist out of Oregon

who's doing these amazing mixed-media designs on wood.

Oh, wow...

So interesting.

Could you imagine this in a living room

as the centerpiece above the mantle?

Maybe we could get them to do something on the show?

It's off-brand.

It's too out there for our advertisers!

We are restrained...

-Repressed? -Refined.

Did you find out about what Haiden said?

The network wants to see us on Monday, that's all I know.

Okay.

-So we'll see? -Yeah.

Oh, hey... hi.

Listen, while I've got you both.

I'm really sorry about the whole

shirtless Baywatch thing inside.

I heard you were just trying to help.

Next time, if you give me some warning,

I'll spray on a tan and strike a pose.

Anyways...

Well, I hope to do this again sometime.

Yeah. Have a good night.

-Night, boss. -Night.

It was pretty funny...

It made us look unprofessional!

I needed Graham today.

Make sure that edit is locked before Friday...

Oh my God, Tiffany! Restoration Project Tiffany!

Why are they so excited?

I don't know...

Oh wow, we're such big fans!

We've looked up to you for years.

I'm Fin. This is my wife, Bennie.

It's so nice to meet you!

Oh, it's so nice to meet you guys.

Liz.

We've seen every episode of yours!

We based a lot of our ideas on seeing what you've done.

We just hope that our show can be

half as good as yours one day.

Oh, that's really nice you guys.

Very nice.

Anyway, good luck with everything!

It's such a pleasure!

Nice meeting you!

Nice meeting you guys.

That was too friendly...

I think they're just friendly in general.

No one is that friendly.

Not at this hour.

First of all, we are all huge fans here.

Restoration Project is a cornerstone of HDC.

The things you repurpose and restore...

It's why people tune in.

It's what I love.

Is there a but?

Your ratings are down. A lot.

Copycat shows have eaten into your viewership.

You've become stale

by being too polished, it's boring.

The renos are going all flawlessly!

Your crew is like a team of Navy Seal contractors

with the artistic precision of the Bolshoi ballet.

Okay, what would you like us to do? Break stuff?

No, that's the territory of our show, First Time Flippers.

We could do some more challenging renos?

Yes, we absolutely could do that.

My Condemned Dream Home and Drug Dens Rehabbed

covers that already.

What then?

Are you cancelling us?

No.

We trust you and we're sticking with you.

Your show fills a crucial spot for our luxury advertisers.

We're changing the format to give you a...

renovation.

You'll be remodeling whole lives!

Flipping people!

We could even keep the same name,

just with one of those colons.

Restoration Project: Lifestyles!

And I'm assigning a second producer

to oversee the new elements.

Haiden did such a great job with Bennie and Fin.

He took Flip It Up all the way to the top!

-We don't need Haiden. -No.

You need all the help you can get.

Upfronts are only a few weeks away, guys.

You have to shoot an entire episode

and nail those new elements by then.

Otherwise, advertisers just won't get on board.

Also, I saw the alternate cut that Liz sent

and I want your carpenter to be this Brooks guy!

Alternate cut?

The drama with Brooks over the table

and the hilarious reveal.

It really gave the episode life!

Graham is my carpenter.

My reno team is non-negotiable, so...

I figured you'd say that.

So Brooks will be the first makeover subject instead.

Why?

We already tested him with audience demo groups,

and he rates high, very high.

He could be the carpenter version of Pretty Woman.

He's relatable, ripe for an upgrade.

And he talks back to you. Drama!

Drama... okay.

What...

What if he doesn't need a remodel?

I am sure you can find something to fix in his life.

You're the Martha Stewart of renovations, right?

Right.

Liz...

You never want to know the numbers!

And I thought we could turn it around.

Tiff, you always say you don't want to know the ratings

because it ruins the experience for you and how you create.

I know, yeah.

Maybe this could be a great opportunity?

You know we'll kill it.

I sent the alternate cut to cover ourselves.

I'm sorry.

Yeah, now we're stuck with that guy!

-Brooks. -Whatever his name is!

For one episode.

This is pretty nice.

Maybe he doesn't need our help?

Liz, what're you doing?

He has like no furniture, like nothing!

Maybe he's moving?

A passionate Marie Kondo fan?

Yeah, he definitely needs help, Tiff.

Yeah.

Hey...

Look what the saw blew in.

Hey Brooks!

What can I do for you ladies?

Did you get any of my voicemails?

Oh no, phone's inside.

I'll check it tomorrow.

Umm, well...

We were considering...

We want you to work with us again.

Really?

Maybe we should discuss this inside?

Step into my office, we can discuss it right here.

Nice throne.

This is my thinking chair.

So, what's the renovation?

Well, we're changing our show format

and we're doing full life makeovers now.

And we want to makeover you.

Me?

Why? I'm cool.

Well...

Why not?

Okay, I see what's happening here...

Listen, if you need a carpenter,

I'm your guy.

But I'm not interest in being paraded around

like some sort of show pony.

The network will cover everything.

I don't need everything.

But you have no furniture?

Look, we know that you are perfect already.

Thank you for noticing.

But I don't think you understand what we're offering here.

Maybe we didn't explain it well enough.

No, I got it.

We're good here.

Thanks for coming.

Hey, buddy.

The name's Brooks.

Tiffany! What can I do for you?

Kimberly, hi!

I just had this great idea I wanted to run by you.

Let's hear it!

There's this farmer in Idaho.

Lost his house to flooding, wears the same jeans every day.

Great subject Tiffany, but we want Brooks

for that first episode, so make that happen.

But I'll keep your farmer in mind for episode two!

-Gotta go! -But umm...

Cheers!

One second!

You're a carpenter without a shop.

I do customs in my garage.

But you want a showroom. Badly.

Graham told me.

Traitor.

I can get you a shop.

Lease paid for a year in advance.

You can even throw out everything I do in there.

Sell it, for all I care.

Go back to your dirty shorts.

I just need you to play along for one episode, okay?

Lease paid for three years?

Two.

Fine, but I'm the on-set carpenter for this episode.

No.

Graham's gotta take care of his kid.

Fine. Just be prepared to work, okay?

Still working?

Who are those for?

These are for you.

Oh...

I wanted to apologize for how things were left off, way back.

I'm sorry.

You deserved a lot better

and I wanted us to start off on the right foot.

Thank you, I'm sorry too.

Now listen, we are going to be working close together.

In the trenches, so to speak,

and I wanted to set aside some time after work

for creative meetings.

-What do you say? -Sure, sounds good.

Like we always used to say, "Whatever it takes."

Whatever it takes.

So, what time is the scout for Brooks' house tomorrow?

11.

And where should I set up?

-Room at the end of the hall. -Okay.

I look forward to working with you again, Tiff.

Welcome to Restoration Project, Haiden.

-End of the hall? -Last door.

-Okay. -Can't miss it.

Come on in!

Thanks, Brooks.

Oh wow, I love it.

So where's all the cameras?

We like to come and get a feel for the space first.

We'll walk through the house today

and we'll make a plan

and then we'll present our design ideas to you on camera.

Great, when do we start shooting?

Couple of days.

We're on a real tight timeline for this one.

Wow, this house is very... heirloom chic.

I mean if you say so.

-You must be Brooks. -I am.

-I'm Haiden, the other producer. -Pleasure.

It's pioneer style, built in 1900.

And the hardwood?

All original, found them under the carpets.

Great bones.

So, where do the dinner guests sit?

Oh, I don't really entertain in that room.

What do you do in that room?

Nude yoga, mostly.

That's funny.

This sofa isn't yours, is it?

It is now, my ex left it.

Brooks, we are going to need you to sign this.

All right, I'll just need to go through all this.

Please do.

Athough, not to rush you, but we're going

to need you to sign it

so we can get the permits started and get on schedule.

Okay. Is this standard?

It's totally standard, Brooks.

Can I trust you?

Of course.

Good.

Okay.

So, why don't you show me your upstairs?

Why don't I show you my upstairs?

How long have you lived here for?

Uh... seven years.

That's a long time.

This work is quite beautiful.

Thank you, I built that.

That's impressive.

I like it.

Why buy when you can build, right?

I agree.

So, what were you thinking?

Oh, you'll know soon enough.

You're just going to leave me hanging like that?

-Mmm-hmm. -It better not be heirloom chic!

I'm serious!

We're really not looking for much build,

just sprucing up everywhere.

The audience needs to see a real transformation.

The network picked him, not me.

If not the house, then the person.

Everyone loves a good Cinderella story, Tiff.

You should know that.

Oh, I should know?

The whole world is at your feet, Tiff.

The network wants you to succeed.

Your fans, your crew, and especially me.

I just want you to keep an eye on ratings, that's all.

Fix everything and anything, but most importantly,

you've got to point it out to the camera.

You know I'm good at that.

Oh, I know.

And I feel like he needs some sort of event

to shine through at the end.

Like a big reveal.

What, like a debutante woodshop?

A carpenter quinceanera?

Seriously though, teach him everything that you perfected.

Trendy. Classy. Refined.

Take him from the ground floor all the way up to the penthouse.

He may not even know what he's looking for until you show him.

I've gotta get to this meeting, but we'll talk soon.

Okay...

Settle and...

Scene 1, Take 1.

Mark it!

And... action!

Welcome back to RP with T!

Yesterday, we walked through the house

to really get a feel for the space.

That was two days ago.

The magic of TV, Brooks.

So, we've done our research,

and you're a man who likes functionality?

I do.

Well, what I'd like to do

is turn this closet into a walk-in pantry.

Add some storage, and then by knocking down this wall

and putting in a case opening,

we can really open up the space.

Why?

The flow will be better.

Flow? This house is from the last century,

not some modern McMansion.

People like open floor plans.

I like it how it is! Original, like me.

Pioneer and colonial are out now, ranch style is in.

Who cares what's in?

We could also take out these ceiling beams

and add a skylight, which would add some natural light

which would be really lovely.

The beams are old growth fir, come on!

I mean... there used to be tiles in here, originally.

Yes! Actually, tiles would be lovely.

Or, we could do a beautiful Brazilian walnut.

Or, a ceramic mosaic.

There's this artist in India that I was reading about

and the colors that he was using was so intricate and umm...

Sorry, can we cut?

-Keep going! -Yeah, that was good.

No, it's too off-the-wall for our show's style.

Sorry, one sec.

I would like to paint the cabinets.

Boom.

Furnish with some vintage pieces.

-Boom! -And add a skylight!

Sad boom.

We did get really lucky with our walkthrough yesterday.

The cabinets are a dense cedar put in sometime in the '30s,

which is why they've held up so well.

Banging out the scuffs won't affect

the integrity of the wood.

We'll be able to give this kitchen a new life

and a paint job with minimal replacements.

Yeah, that is absolutely right.

Boom!

Okay...

She's gonna dropkick me before the end of the day.

Let's go again from the top.

One more time.

All things considered, I think he's doing well.

We can't use half of it because he's clowning around.

Yeah, all the interruptions...

I think it's charming.

Come on, he's enthusiastic! Just redirect it!

I think you're going to alienate

your high-end audience with this goofball.

Maybe we need a new audience?

Take control, Tiff.

Okay.

So Brooks, why don't you show me what's in your fridge?

Why don't we discuss the skylights?

We're changing people's lives, not just their homes.

Brooks, step away from the fridge.

When I think about my culinary skills, I like to think:

gourmet drive-through.

Okay, so, you've got some beer.

Lots of condiments.

Old cheese...

Oh, there's pickles in here.

That's something.

Those were carrots.

I'm just kidding.

Come on, give me some credit.

Okay, what do you like to make for dinner?

Reservations.

Don't worry, we'll change you into someone new!

And like I always say:

A place for everything, and everything in its place.

That doesn't make any sense.

No, that's my saying.

It's a riddle, it's not a saying.

Do you want that showroom or not?

Yes.

Let's go again?

So, how do you think it's been going?

Oh, I think it's been going.

Easy as cutting butter.

Tiff and I are as in sync as pistons in a truck.

How was that?

I've been thinking about that since last night.

It's pretty poetic, no?

Yeah, I thought so too.

I knew that'd work out.

And action!

He's lived in this house for seven years.

I think it's time he made some changes.

And I think I can really help him.

Brooks has been really open and helpful so far.

Yeah, he's a great guy for doing this.

Yeah, I am!

She sees a lot of potential in me,

but I know I'm a big pain in the butt.

Please don't say "butt."

She's kidding. I love when she kids.

Action!

This room is pretty great as is,

so I'm just looking to add furniture.

One of the biggest design elements

I love to implement in homes is the unexpected.

Like a pool table.

No, like a dining table

so you can host dinner parties like an adult.

That's what I was going to say.

A rustic table made from reclaimed wood

would help tie everything together beautifully!

And it's chic because we're elevating something common.

And Brooks, since you're a carpenter,

you can make it as our Restoration Project!

I'm sorry, I...

Elevate something common, like me?

I'm sorry, can we cut for a minute?

Sure, yeah.

Could you just hold the commentary, please?

I'm trying to do everything in the best way possible,

so just trust me on this one, okay?

-Mmm-hmm. -Thank you.

Okay, let's go again.

Yeah.

Is something funny?

Does that mean everything...

in its place?

Great, okay then.

We can go again.

Just put it that way.

Let's go again.

Okay, could you just not do that?

He wants to look outside.

Okay, let's just take a five minute break.

Yes, I'm parched.

Can I have some water, please?

Thank you so much.

Here.

Bottoms up.

Okay...

We can go again.

Thanks, guys.

Well, that was a disaster.

I could really use a drink for our creative meeting.

Yeah, we're not gonna meet tonight.

You need to talk to him.

He needs to be more cooperative.

How, he just contradicts everything I say.

Speak to him in his own language.

I believe in you, Tiff.

Thanks.

Have a good night.

I'll see you tomorrow, okay?

Night.

Hey, how's it going?

I've got to talk to Brooks.

Can I get a PA for a run?

Yeah sure, what do you need?

Make yourself at home.

You gonna join me, or just watch?

That's my chair.

It's very comfy, actually.

That's why it's my chair.

All right, don't mind if I do. Thank you.

Have fun today?

I did, actually. I had a blast.

You?

It is surprisingly organized in here.

This is my meditation.

So listen, this isn't going as smooth as I'd hoped.

Well, you're not letting me be me.

I'm trying to show you your potential,

that I don't think you would see otherwise.

I think you can do better.

Can't say I haven't heard that before.

Listen... I haven't always been this confident

and charming and well dressed.

I used to take better care of myself.

Took bigger swings.

Then life swung back.

What happened?

I bought this house,

thinking that if I fixed it up...

my life would somehow fix itself.

It didn't.

I'm sorry.

Gwen wasn't the one.

It was for the better.

It's probably good that you've trusted your gut.

Maybe you should trust your instincts a little

instead of figuring out how to squeeze me in your show.

What do you know about my instincts?

I got a taste of them.

When you were talking about the tiles.

I'd love if you helped me out.

The real you, not the fabricated Tiff.

Oh, the real me?

I think I know who you are.

What's that?

Like me.

A small town kid with a really big dream.

Listen...

Throw your hair up and grab a hammer.

I'll listen to whatever suggestions

you throw on the table.

Without the cheekiness?

Yeah, we can try that.

Okay, it's a start.

You still owe me a table.

I guess I do, huh?

-All right, boss. -Night.

The contents of a man's closet are a window to the soul.

But just as important, how it's organized and filled

can provide a confidence and stability in everyday life.

So Brooks, why don't you show us what's in your closet?

I guess this particular window to the soul

hasn't been cleaned in awhile.

Yeah. Your window needs a power wash!

A light scrubbing.

It's okay, we'll work on a style upgrade for you.

You could use some V-neck tees, designer jeans...

A blazer, maybe a vest?

A vest!

That's what I've been missing this whole time!

You're absolutely right.

Okay well, what are some of your favourite things to wear?

I like clothes that I can work in.

Utilitarian, functional.

Okay sure, that's great.

But what do you wear for fun?

Fun?

Okay, umm, what would you wear if you were going on a date?

Here's my favorite...

No... just no.

How about a wedding?

Oh! I just wore this to a wedding.

Bam!

I wear a lot of flannel and corduroy.

Casual is fine.

I think we're gonna work on getting you

some more mature versions of your style.

What's my style?

Country boy in the big city.

Tassels!

I see lots of tassels.

Be good, or I'll put you in a leotard, okay?

Yes ma'am.

They're from our sponsors.

Oh...

Wow.

Brooks is gonna love these.

Wow...

I don't know about this.

What are you thinking?

Do you want to have a little fun?

I'm in.

I thought you would be.

Get rid of those.

This is hilarious!

Do you want to always be hilarious?

Maybe, yeah.

Listen, you can have clothes that fit your personality

and still fit your age.

Would you wear that to a meeting for a small business bank loan?

Here.

Henley shirts are comfortable like tees,

but if you wear them while you're working,

you will look more professional, like a contractor!

All right.

Oh, here.

Perfect!

Come on they're slim, not skinny,

just try them on!

They're not stapled to you, yet.

Go!

What color is this?

No.

Okay, it's my turn. Stop!

Oh!

Sorry...

These... okay, good.

You ready, Brooks?

I'm just fixing my leotard, one second.

What?

I look like an idiot?

Worse... hipster carpenter.

Come on, just look in the mirror for me, please.

Okay.

Yeah.

Now, if you saw this guy walking down the street...

What would you think?

I would think that he's got things going for him.

Yeah, I'd say so.

How do you feel?

Pretty good.

Don't want to feel that way all the time?

Thank you, for being not so judgmental.

Handyman Cinderella.

With boots.

With boots...

A thrift store?

It fit his personality.

Did you approve this?

Yeah, we got some great stuff!

So what are we supposed to do now?

Throw out our current sponsor's clothing?

I'm experimenting.

We don't have time for that.

If you alienate our current luxury sponsors,

you're gonna be competing in the same bracket

as the other HDC shows.

So?

So you'll be in direct competition with Flip It Up.

And our sponsors might not want to advertise on both shows.

So? We'll get new ones.

It's a risky plan and you know it.

I don't know, I like this looser,

less perfect format, it's fun.

What do you think we should do?

Stick to the original plan.

Make him into Mr. Right for our high-end audience

and keep our current sponsors.

You know I'll support you whichever direction we go.

Can we just see how the rest of the day goes?

-Tiff? -Please?

Okay, but it's on you Liz.

Today, I'm staging the furniture

while the crew finishes up the last of the light renovations.

Over here, we have this beautiful coffee table

made of granite.

Yo, Tiff!

Finished the picture frames, check out these beauties...

I'm sorry, I'll try that again.

-Okay. -My bad.

Should I call you boss or something?

Surprise me, it's okay.

Tiffany!

I love them.

Look at the design detail on these.

If you can find a decent woodworker,

you can get him to match

the architectural vernacular of the house.

These kind of details can really set you apart.

I absolutely agree.

Frank Lloyd Wright matched right down to the tableware,

which isn't my cup of tea, but as Tiffany said:

"Details really do matter."

This is actually a rare Bubinga wood,

which is typically used to make instruments and knife handles.

We were lucky enough to reclaim this

from a set of severely damaged bongo drums.

Bongo drums?

Yes. For real.

Uh, what's going on?

I'm being professional, what's going on with you?

I... I thought you were joking.

I'm so sorry.

Please, I'm not that predictable.

And uh, maybe I agreed with you.

Oh, okay.

Let's try that again.

-Sorry, Brooks. -Whatever.

This is not the color I ordered, I wanted the slate grey,

so if we could get those delivered, that'd be great.

-Slate grey. -Thank you.

-Hey, boss! -Yeah?

A gift for you.

Wow, you know the way to a woman's heart, Brooks.

Safety gear!

Yeah, I know. My turn.

-For what? -Time to get after it.

What? No, Brooks I don't have time.

I need pieces for the reclaimed wood table.

Unless you'd rather play with pillows?

I totally understand that.

If you don't want to roll up your sleeves.

-Oh? -No, it's okay if...

No, no, no. Watch me.

All right.

You want to help out?

I'm good, buddy.

-You sure? -Yeah.

Your loss!

We have to rip the rest of this wall down.

Okay, let's do it.

-Yeah, you ready? -Ready.

Here's your weapon.

-Okay. -Let's go.

What you want to do is get the hooks of the hammer,

find the end of the board.

Okay.

You want to peel those nails back

and then work your way down the board.

Okay.

-All right? -Yeah.

Just like that, now you have it.

Okay!

This is so cathartic, actually.

Yeah, sometimes you just gotta grab some tools,

turn on some oldies, and...

-Got one! -...get to work.

When was the last time you did this?

Renovating the kitchen with my dad.

Oh, okay.

He was the one that got me into all this frustration stuff.

I just forgot how much fun it was.

Sounds like a great guy.

He is.

Well listen, we've got some great pieces for the table.

That's what this show is all about, a new beginning.

A life restoration, if you will?

Oh, how clever.

I just came up with that, all by myself, right now.

-All by yourself? -All by myself.

Less talking, more hammering.

Okay.

Get this one on your end here?

Oh, you want me to do that?

Yeah, get that one.

Remember when that contractor fell into our shot

while eating a sandwich and all he had to say for himself was,

"Sorry, I didn't mean to get sandwiched between you guys!"

So bad!

So, I noticed you turning to your good side

to accentuate a little more this season.

Smiling a bit longer, it's fantastic image projection.

Didn't you used to say I had two good sides?

So you still watch the show?

Never missed an episode.

For research?

No, I...

I was always rooting for you.

So, what did you think of today?

Today? It was fun, actually.

Felt I was really connecting with Brooks, helping him.

You know Kimberly is watching our footage daily?

I know.

I think you're making a big mistake, Tiff.

I know, Haiden.

You're polished, you're classy, you're better.

I guess the talk with Brooks helped?

It did actually, you were right.

Oh I was, was I?

Yes.

He just wanted me to listen to him.

He had an ex, Gwen.

I guess she was the reason that he bought the house.

That explains a lot.

What? What is it?

I didn't just come here to work

as a producer for Restoration Project,

I wasn't assigned.

I requested it when I found they needed a producer.

I had lots of offers from other shows, but...

I came to your show, because...

Because of you.

We had something really special together, Tiff.

And that may be gone, but...

I just want you to know that I came here for you.

We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow.

We do.

You still doing the paella?

No, something more practical for Brooks, you know.

Yeah, of course.

Just know that I'll always support you, okay?

So, when was the last time you made dinner here

for yourself or someone else?

Never?

Just not yet.

I don't think the world is ready

for Brooks' culinary tour de force.

The Joy of Microwaving, by Brooks.

I guess I had that coming, that's fine.

Cooking for those that you care about

is a great way to show you love them.

I'm going to show you a really healthy and simple dish

that you can serve to your family, or on a date.

A date?

Yeah, pappardelle with rose harissa,

black olives, and capers.

How does that sound?

Do you like it?

I do.

Great, let's rock and roll.

I'm going to begin by caramelizing the onions,

and if you could chop up the parsley...

-Oops, sorry. -Nope, that's okay.

You need the parsley, you use the parsley.

I don't, you're gonna chop the parsley.

Should we start again?

-Keep going. -Okay.

Okay, here we go.

How's it going over there, Brooks?

Good, not the green stuff.

So while those are carmelizing,

I am going to complete this healthy dish with Brooks

that you can make any day of the week.

Without the green stuff.

And cut!

That was nice.

Just make sure to protect your fingers.

Yeah, you're doing it.

How much spice do you like in your pasta sauce?

I don't know, most of my pasta sauce comes in a can.

Smells nice!

-It smells nice? -Yeah.

It seems like you know what you're doing.

I do!

Oh wow, that's bold.

And then you just... perfect!

Cheers.

It's a lot longer than I thought it was gonna be.

It is a brisk morning, hey?

Uh-huh.

I love your willingness to roll up your sleeves.

Thanks, I always loved working with my hands.

I meant figuratively, you're the "everyman."

If you find yourself getting lost in something,

can you play it up for the camera?

What are you getting at?

Help Tiffany look like the makeover genius that she is.

It'll help save the show.

Wait, the show's in trouble?

Restoration Project is going to be cancelled

unless your episode kills it, Brooks.

You're our only hope.

I thought that was your job?

Tiffany's not willing to do what it takes

because she doesn't want to offend you.

And that all depends on your willingness to change.

And what's that?

You fitting into her brand.

Maybe Tiffany should try being herself.

Maybe, but her career is riding on this

and I'm doing everything I can to help her.

Because I care, because I want her to succeed.

What are you doing?

You're just clowning around.

See you back in there.

Surprise!

I know you said you didn't want to do anything, but...

Happy 20 years at HDC!

Oh, thank you guys!

I'm not sure if you remember,

but the first dress you ever picked out for me,

it was so beautiful.

So I made it into a quilt

and I added a whole bunch of dresses

throughout the seasons that I loved.

Oh wow, Tiff it's lovely.

Glad you like it.

I'm not the best seamstress in the world.

Liz helped me a bit,

but there might be some shoddy needlework.

We did our best.

I think I can let it go this time.

Thank you guys!

Aww, you're welcome.

You've been so great, you've meant so much to the show.

Wow, this can't be good.

-Hey everyone. -Hi.

I'm on my way to give a speech at a charity gala,

so I'll make it fast.

I'm concerned.

This is a real departure from your brand.

It's just... looser.

Well, we're too far along to change course.

And given what we have, the episode still feels flat.

Okay, well what do you want us to do?

You need to get more personal with Brooks.

Dig in where it hurts and help him.

It'll be... uplifting.

He has an ex-wife.

She may be part of the reason why he's in this big house

all alone, unfurnished and not willing to flip.

There's obviously something there.

Lean into that, Tiffany.

Bye.

Haiden...

I'm trying to save your show, Tiff.

He has a point.

They won't let us screen at Upfronts, otherwise.

It's either this, or...

It's the end.

So where do you want to put this?

-Upstairs hallway. -Okay.

Hey, umm... I just wanted to ask you.

How would you feel about getting a little beard trim?

Not good.

Come on, just a little clean up, that's all.

Listen, this muskrat makes me look manly.

Okay.

You know what, why not?

-Really? -Sure, let's do it.

That's great, thank you.

You're gonna love it.

We'll see.

Allow me to introduce to our audience

to the fantastic Howard!

Oh my.

Nice to meet you, too.

You've got great hair,

you just need to show it some love.

Did you hear that? I've got great hair.

Not yet.

Howard is the best, you're going to look amazing.

Who does your hair?

What's that look for?

And we'll be right back after this.

Hey Howard, you ready for the next set up,

or do you need a couple of more minutes?

This is the best beard work I've done since Cast Away.

Wow, you look great. That's really good.

Thank you Howard, as always.

-Anytime. -It's so good to see you.

Thanks, Howard!

Never leave me alone with him again.

Come on, he's not that bad.

You look good.

You okay?

Yeah, I'm fine.

When was the last time you treated yourself like this?

Longer than I care to admit.

Can I ask you something?

What's up? Shoot.

Why did you restore this house?

It's such a big project to take on all by yourself.

I saw its potential.

It had good bones.

Did you do it for Gwen?

At first, I guess so, yeah.

But then I kept going.

I never let her in.

I didn't know how, you know?

Yeah.

All the men in my family, they've always just...

Dealt with the things that ate them up inside.

I never really thought that I was good enough for her.

And when I ran out of things to work on in here...

That's when it hit me.

She wasn't coming back.

I was trapped.

And it was easier not to care.

Yeah.

I get that.

I think when you truly love someone...

you have to give them something to love back.

You know?

Yeah.

What if life gave you a reason to care again?

Do you think that you'd be ready to love yourself?

I don't know.

I don't know if I ever did.

No cameras?

Nope, gone for the day.

You know, I really like what you did

with that garden wall in the loft episode.

Thinking about making one for my backyard.

I didn't know you watched the show.

I did my homework too.

Unless you want to reclaim these for a new table?

I hear you're quite the genius?

Well apparently, I'm stale, so...

Well, I mean...

Even stale bread can be made new, you know?

There's croutons... stuffing...

Stale bread with butter.

So philosophical!

Never philosophize when you're hungry.

Yeah.

Speaking of hungry...

Are you hungry, have you eaten?

Well, I've seen you cook, so...

But you haven't seen me grill.

How did you think I survived all these years?

I don't know.

Tiffany...

Will you have dinner with me?

Yeah.

Sure, why not?

Beautiful.

Well, I'm impressed.

But don't you dare gloat!

Wouldn't dream of it.

So, it seems you and Haiden have a thing going on?

Oh, you noticed.

Haiden was actually the one who discovered me.

Okay.

He told me I had an acuity for design I could use on TV.

And then, all of a sudden we were a team.

He was producing, I was...

Creating and polishing this perfect image.

Everybody loved it.

Yeah?

Even my brother says that I went all Hollywood.

And then when my career started to take off, our...

relationship was over.

I don't know.

I guess I never really felt...

at home with him, you know?

Yeah.

I was Tiffany from Restoration Project...

Not...

Me.

So I... I pushed him away.

I closed off...

And then clung to what I had left, which was the show.

If you could do anything, what would you do?

I would open up a store that sold my restored furniture.

That would be a dream.

Where is it?

No, I don't have the time for that.

Really?

Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't have the time.

Okay, maybe I don't have the guts.

To do what you love?

Yeah.

Listen...

You really shouldn't worry that people won't like the real you.

It's very clear that everybody already does.

Come on, let me show you something.

Okay.

Is this some of the wood from the wall?

That's right.

I love it.

-It turned out all right, eh? -Yeah.

You know, I always wanted to make a table like this.

Like... really make it.

Old Tiffany Repurpose doesn't do woodworking?

No, that's why we have a carpenter.

Let me show you.

Okay.

I've got some extra pieces here.

This is beautiful.

I've cut all the pieces for the layout and design of it.

You have your center, three, three and three.

What you want to do is find three of your pieces,

that look good side by side and match them up,

just like that.

What you do is throw a layer of glue

underneath each and you clamp it down.

That's right. Good start.

Then you want to find your three pieces...

And work your way around the end.

-This one? -Yeah.

-And these? -And then three more.

Beautiful. Next three, then we'll go this way.

Once the glue dries, you take a hand planer

and you find all the high spots in the...

Listen, thank you so much for all your help.

Really...

Thank you for dinner.

Of course.

And I love the table, it's beautiful.

Good night!

Yeah.

I hate to break it to you,

but the two of you are very amusing to watch.

I forgot to ask, what did you do the other day

with your afternoon off?

Brooks and I talked for a bit.

Talked...?

Design ideas for the dining table.

Right.

All right...

How did you know? With Dan?

Well, we just loved doing things together.

And after a very short time,

I couldn't imagine doing any of those things without him.

Yeah.

So, good news...

Everyone at the network thinks the new footage is excellent.

-Oh, great. -But we need to go further.

We need to have Brooks get closure with Gwen in person.

Oh, I think he's had closure. He's moved on.

Has he? We need that Gatsby moment.

Seeing him handsome and smartly dressed,

facing Gwen as a new man.

Maybe there's even a Hollywood ending in there, too?

Even if not, we've got our grand, final reveal

that we've racked our brains over!

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea...

I'll make it happen.

Thank you, Haiden.

I look forward to watching it.

Hello?

We can't.

-We have to. -No, absolute not.

Then... what?

I don't know, I'll think of something.

Has she told him yet?

No.

You know we're running out of time?

I know, I'm on it.

What?

I really like the artwork.

Oh yeah, the wood was left over

from the table you worked on last season.

I sent it to the artist.

It's so heirloom chic.

It'll remind me of all your help.

Thank you.

It's my job.

You ready?

Yeah, let's rock and roll.

And, action!

After a week of makeover, Brooks has survived!

Are you ready to see meet the new and improved Brooks?

Come on out!

So, how do you feel?

I feel great, thank you Tiffany.

We've given Brooks some slim fitting clothes

to really accentuate his body type

and project a more professional persona.

The small business owner.

Really slim.

Why don't we take a look at the rest of the house?

Yeah, let's do that.

Can you make sure to get the table?

He's done a phenomenal job, so I want to get that.

Thank you.

Hey, tell me you've got something.

I've got nothing, what're we going to do?

I'm not going to put them on camera

if they're not comfortable, Liz.

I agree.

I feel like this show isn't us anymore.

Yeah, me too.

Tiff, we're running out of time.

-I... -What?

I just found something out from my contact at the network.

It turns out Kimberly wasn't completely honest with us.

Oh?

The network isn't necessarily going to keep

both us and Flip It Up

now that we're competing for the same advertisers.

So if one doesn't generate enough interest,

they are more than okay keeping only one show next season.

Oh, I see.

-That is news. -Yeah.

Hey Andy, where is Brooks?

He's with Haiden for the Gwen reveal.

The what?

So where's Tiffany?

She's coming.

All right.

So, you like the changes she made?

Yeah, I guess I'm still getting used to it.

It feels good.

I guess meeting Tiffany

is a bit of a life changer for you, huh?

Yeah.

Me too.

Really?

You signed a contract, Brooks.

We can film whatever we want.

Hi, Brooks.

Hi, Gwen.

You look good.

I like the beard.

Thank you.

I saw you on TV.

The episode of Restoration Project.

You were the carpenter?

Oh, yeah.

You made me laugh.

I heard you're making some changes.

I am.

The house is done.

I know how to cook one meal.

Wow...

It sounds like they better bring out the Michelin star.

I was suggesting that.

Umm, the reason I'm here...

I just wanted to say that despite how it ended between us,

you'll always have a place in my heart.

I know we weren't good for each other.

I just always wished we could've stayed friends.

You deserved more of an explanation.

I get it... now.

So tell me about yourself, what's new?

Well, I mean cameras...

Cameras, that's new.

I'm still getting used to those.

I have new furniture.

Brooks!

Brooks, wait please! I'm so sorry.

I was going to tell you.

But you didn't.

Instead you ambushed me.

For what, ratings?

No, Haiden did that without my permission.

But you knew?

Yes.

All you had to do was ask, Tiff.

I know, I'm so sorry.

I thought I could trust you.

I was wrong, you're nothing like me.

Hey, wait a minute.

Look, I tried to help you, okay?

I didn't need your help.

I didn't need these things.

Please, you were hiding away in an empty house?

All by yourself?

You put up this wall like,

"I'm so laid back, I don't need anything," but you do.

Just like everybody else.

You're too afraid to deserve better

because that means you would have to let somebody in.

-What about you? -What about me?

You're completely afraid to be who you really are.

You won't even pursue what you love.

Instead you decide to hide behind some person

that you don't even like.

So?

Get what you wanted?

I got what we needed.

Great, thanks Haiden.

Hey, you want to see the edit?

No.

You know it's just television, right?

It's more than that.

It's people.

Have I ever opened myself up since you've known me?

Really opened up?

You try so hard to be perfect.

You don't need to.

But I have noticed that you've been following your heart more.

A lot more.

Look, show or no show, I'm here for you.

Thanks, Liz.

That means a lot.

Come on, up. Give me a hug.

Bring it in, give me a hug.

-Thank you. -You're welcome.

-You're the best. -I know.

Thanks for meeting me.

Haiden, you've meant so much to me.

You've been a part of my life

that I've taken with me farther than I've realized.

But I think we both know that we just...

We shouldn't get back together.

Yeah, I was feeling that way too.

Yeah.

I wanted to thank you, though.

The job you did on the show...

You know I didn't mean to hurt Brooks.

I know.

Just know that everything I did...

I did it for you.

You were looking out for me.

-Thanks, Tiff. -Thank you, Haiden.

You know, we will always have Restoration Project.

That was ours.

And you know, when you were riffing during the episode...

That was the happiest I've seen since you in...

Well, a long time.

You should follow that feeling.

I'd watch.

I was wondering when I'd arrived at this place

And I'll leave here the way that I came

 Crazy, we're lost

 I count any second

Each moment in that hour before dawn

When I fell through the door

 Through this palace of man

Mister Cinderella.

Liz, Tiffany, come on in!

The episode was a big hit with our demo groups.

People were shedding tears of joy!

Our advertisers will love it!

You're gonna be our headliner for Upfronts.

Which is why I'd like to say...

We look forward to the next season

of Restoration Project with Tiffany!

Well, that's fantastic.

What happened to Flip It Up?

Well, those are the breaks.

Don't say anything, we haven't told them yet.

Forget about them.

We want more you and ideally, more Brooks!

Actually, I have a different idea.

How are you?

We're perfect.

So I'm sure you guys have heard by now,

that this might come down to one of us?

We did hear.

We worked our butts off to get to the top

and no one is going to take that spot away from us.

We admire you...

But may the best show win.

Oh man, wow. See, I told you!

Liz, calm down.

I hate to break it to you, but the network has already

offered us the final slot for next season.

But we turned them down.

And we recommended that they give it back to you.

I don't understand, why?

We've had our time.

Yeah. More importantly, now it's yours.

I see a lot of myself in you.

You're really good at this.

And I'd also like to offer you something else.

An assist.

Assist?

Yeah.

If you'll let me, I would love to come

onto your show each week to do a segment.

Maybe help boost your ratings a little bit?

Call it, "Restoration Corner."

We'd like that a lot.

-Thank you, Tiffany. -Great.

What are you going to do now?

I honestly don't know, but I'm excited.

Brooks?

Brooks, are you there?

Listen...

I'm sorry.

You deserved better.

I...

I stopped the pilot from airing.

I quit.

I don't want to do that show anymore.

At least, not their way.

I just thought you should know.

I'm going to take your advice, actually.

Anyway, I might be standing here talking to myself

so I'm going to go, but...

Take care.

Oh, and...

I keep my promises.

What a dummy.

Excuse me?

Can you hear me?

Yes, of course I can hear you.

I believe what you said that day, was...

I need him in this time zone.

Oh, so you heard me that day? You little...

Listen hot rod, I was in the zone.

The reason I called you...

was because I was putting the shop together

and I realized I still have one really big problem.

Yeah, what's that?

How do I fill all this space?

Well, I thought that more space would be better, right?

No, you don't understand.

I need help filling it all up.

Okay, what does that have to do with me?

Here's what I was thinking...

Some nice restored furniture, I think, would be a good idea.

Right there.

See, there's this really talented designer,

she recently started making her own pieces.

But what she doesn't have, is a showroom.

You know, I may know someone.

Yeah, but are they good?

Yes, she's the best.

I owe you an apology.

I'm sorry for what I said.

It's okay.

And I want to thank you.

For everything.

You were right.

Oh, I was?

Yeah, I was hiding behind some pretty big walls.

To be the real me.

Do what I love and I just...

Whoa, gotta get to you now

I need you somehow, some way

 You're my blue heaven

I need you right now, to make it okay

 Oh, you're my blue heaven

Oh, gotta get to you now

I need you somehow, some way

 Whoa, you're my blue heaven

I need you right now, to make it okay

 Oh, you're my blue heaven
