It's an amazing birthday, probably the best

I'm gonna be able to, like, just hang out,

[Rick] Being the last boat out here kind of sucks.

This winter has been an ass-kicker.

From the day we flew up, it's been cold.

It's been miserable.

We've had some pretty massive storms come through.

And then on top of that, we had our breakdowns.

We had Todd get a concussion,

had the PTO burn up on the way out of town,

had to go to St. George.

And then there's the ice covering up our gear

and end up leaving 22 pots.

Now I gotta find a new area.

But I just can't give up.

[Steven] We got to take all the gear.

Two deck loads of gear down further south.

So, not looking forward to it.

[Todd] It's been a rough season.

From what I heard, it's been one of

the rougher seasons for the boat.

Yeah, absolutely.

If I got the opportunity to come back again,

I absolutely would.

It's been one of my dreams and goals to make it up here.

That's why I'm up here, too, to make it and to try to

support my family.

My kids are one, two, and four.

So, they --

my oldest, he kind of understands what's going on,

but my younger two, they have no clue.

They just wonder why dad was home one moment and then now

dad hasn't been home in two months.

So...

it was kind of a heart-wrencher.

[Rick speaking]

[Rick] I got two greenhorns on the boat...

...John and we got Todd.

I can't complain with what I'm seeing out of them.

They're stepping up, stepping in.

They're pulling their weight.

To get our quota done, I got a lot of work I gotta do.

I just pray that these crab pots will come up full.

And I just pray that we'll wrap this up

and we can go home quick...

I don't remember how many.

crossing the Gulf of Alaska right now.

We've got about a seven-day journey if the weather holds.

So as far as 2026,

for the opilio and bairdi,

I'd like to just put it behind me.

I think the guys have earned a rest.

[Jake] I'm pretty beat up.

you know, losing Jenna, losing the boats, plural,

then I got a job in the CM,

and things just started to look up.

This is the beginning of the next chapter of my life

with my kids.

[suspenseful music plays]

the Aleutian Lady. I got a medical emergency.

I'm trying to get a hold...

of Comm State.

I had a guy fall overboard, and he is unconscious,

and we cannot resuscitate him.

[Coast Guard speaking]

It'll take me at least...

15 hours,

Been roughly eight hours...

since Todd fell over.

Now it's finally sinking in that the reality is...

he's no longer with us.

The troopers are on their way to his mom's house right now...

to let her know.

His kids, his family.

[Steven] My heart's broken, man.

That's a kid that's not going home to his family.

That's a bunch of kids that won't have their dad, so.

Just eats me up.

Kids don't understand yet...

especially at his age, you know?

If there's anything I'd like to put out there, is that...

the dude would even get in trouble in between our runs

just to make sure he got a FaceTime call in

with his kids.

So you know where his priorities were...

and that [bleep] kills my heart.

He was just in the pot, getting the crab out...

just like he's supposed to do.

And the pot went over.

Don't know how.

You always hear the stories of people going overboard.

But seeing a guy go overboard and not come back...

and lose his life...

I don't know what that's going to do to me

and what it's gonna do to his family.

He's got three kids, too.

He's got three kids.

[Todd speaking]

It's not fair.

[Rick] Right now...

all of us are just focusing on breathing.

I have never felt so lost being on a boat...

than this moment.

But my job's not done.

We gotta get to the dock.

[sniffles]

[phone rings]

That was Clark.

He's on his way down with the boat right now.

I just don't like the fact that they're not back yet.

Um, you guys ready?

We have just now learned that

the Aleutian Lady, which is run by...

you know, Captain Rick Shelford, they just had

a crew member go over the side.

So, word is going around pretty fast.

And we don't have details...

but we do know that they lost a man.

Todd went overboard...

and is now perished.

You know, my heart goes out to, obviously, Todd and his family,

and then Rick and every guy on the boat.

You know, I mean, nobody deserves this.

Not only did, you know, the crew lose

a family member, you have his family,

you have kids that have just lost a father.

[Jonathan] My buddy Jack. Come on!

He's a scaredy cat.

When you work on a boat together, you bonded.

It's sort of like a band of brothers.

It's like soldiers going on a mission, you know?

I love my guys.

They're my family. And then when I look down

on the deck, I see their families

and their kids and their wives looking back at me.

I have a son. I don't know what I would do.

We have sort of grown apart, and we don't have each other

in each other's lives much anymore.

And I'm gonna make sure I change that.

Any of us could go any day.

[John] You know, you wake up and think about this, and it's just...

[indistinct radio chatter]

Definitely feels surreal.

This is Todd's bed right here. We were bunkmates right here.

And, um...

Yeah, I can't believe it, man.

It's...

It's horrible.

I truly think everybody did everything they could.

But...

But Todd's not here.

[Rick] When we get to the dock, the state troopers are gonna

meet us and the Coast Guard,

and they're going to do interviews, take pictures,

start an investigation, retrieve...

They're gonna take care of Todd's remains

and get him home to his family.

[bleep]

[Lisa] In my 17 seasons on this show, this has never happened.

Unalaska police department and the Coast Guard

are all here.

They're interviewing the crew to find out what happened.

The deckhand's name is -- his name is Todd.

He's young.

Todd's just a kid.

And he's had such a [bleep] rough go -- he had...

poor guy, had his teeth pulled out.

Then he got hit in the head.

Just feel bad for him.

[soft crying]

[phone rings]

When you hear something like this happen,

your mind quickly goes into...

trying to fix it and come up with a solution to

remedy the situation, but in situations

like these, with a death...

there ain't -- there ain't no fixing it.

Everybody knows that I have anxiety.

I have panic attacks.

This is -- this is what it's from.

I remember when I was young, growing up, wanting to be

this person that I am today.

And now I look back and I want to say, "Stop."

The question is, is how do you bounce back?

And the only thing you can do in hell is just keep moving.

And that's what Rick has to do right now.

Everyone on that boat.

The Seattle Fisherman's Memorial was erected in 1988,

I think it was.

And it's basically a tribute to all the people that have made

an impact or been a part of the fishing industry here in

Washington State and all the way up through Alaska.

And it's also a tribute for those who have perished at sea.

My father is memorialized there.

He's got a placard. Phil Harris is in there.

You know, for me, they live on forever.

I can tell you one thing,

I can't imagine what Rick's going through right now.

The fact that...

you know, the boat becomes a family unit,

and so that's losing a family member.

And for him, I think it's even worse because, you know,

he's the head of the household.

Brutal.

[bleep] brutal.

[Jake] I'm going to pay tribute with the rest of the fellas.

John's gonna be there,

and I think Lynn's gonna be there too.
