First from Ottawa,
the nation's parliamentary crisis

continued today without any indication...

Government spokesmen refuse to confirm

or deny that an election
announcement is imminent.

In Montréal, a daring escape today

and a nationwide manhunt is on.

Derek Lind has that story.

Jerry Cuozzo, much
publicized underworld figure,

was rushed from Bordeaux
Jail early this afternoon

to nearby Riverside Hospital

after suffering from
an acute ulcer attack.

At 2:30, he was reported missing

from the hospital's
special security section.

Prison officials are
refusing to give details,

but police are investigating a report

a man was seen climbing
the fence at the rear

of the hospital and
heading towards the river.

The current is especially
treacherous in this area.

Police say there is little
likelihood a swimmer

could negotiate these waters.

Cuozzo was being held for trial

on narcotics charges involving
more than a million dollars.

Police recovered a
small quantity of heroin

at the time of arrest,

but most of the shipment
has yet to be found.

For this reason, it is believed
that Cuozzo is wanted just

as badly by his former associates,

who were apparently
bypassed in the transaction.
