It was initially thought they had fallen ill

after using heroin or crack cocaine
from a contaminated batch of drugs,

if a crime has been committed.

The couple may have touched

a contaminated object
from the Skripal attack,

like a discarded cigarette end
or a syringe containing Novichok.
