one of the worst jails

in all the state of Georgia.

that anytime
somebody's escorting

We have 200 people
here for murder.

It's a dangerous situation,
and ultimately, they will,

they're unpredictable
on how they will act.

He will be charged
with aggravated assault

because he has a weapon
and he attacked the inmate

while he was in handcuffs.

Aggravated assault is
a lesser crime to the murder

that he's ultimately
originally in here for.

But they have to
understand that they can't just

go on and send a message that
you will be charged

or pick up an additional
charge if you do that.

We tell officers every day,

you know, this is what
you're up against.

So really you need to search
them when they're coming out,

you need to search them
when they're going in.

All inmates in here
feel like it's a war zone.

They all willing to get back
to whoever did something

to their family and you
know what I'm saying?

They trying to hurt people.

As far as the shanks,

inmates now they use
anything that they can find.

They going to find a way to
sharpen it, try to hurt myself

or another inmate
or another officer.

white was reaching in his pants,

so he might have had a
shank on him already.

You know, anytime
someone has a shank

from within the jail, they
make it from the walls,

the piping, the
showers, the doors.

Once they break
something and alter it,

it now becomes a
criminal charge.

So they'll be charged
criminally for that.

We just kind of
got to look into it

and make sure to connect all
the dots so that we can have

a good folder of
prosecution to turn over

to the district attorney.

As he stood up, a small baggy

of a white powdery substance
fell out of his underwear,

tucked somewhere that I
didn't see on the scanner.

He had originally had stated
he didn't have anything on him.

He hadn't taken any drugs today.

Similar story to what
the last few times

he had been booked in.

I just found some
oxy in his poop.

Nothing happened
for eight hours.

It was the same way yesterday.

We're like the first
two or three...

He knew he had, you
know, drugs on him.

Just the behavior of this
inmate, we picked up on it,

you know, going
down on the floor.

It's all to try to ditch it.

Or in the worst case
scenario, hide it and then

get it into his cell.

We'll go
through the scanner,

With our body scanner, as
we're looking at the video

on that, you can see that it's
set on the default setting.

We've asked them to run it
on the higher resolution

because non-ferrous items, so
like plastics show up better

and those things will,
that are not supposed

to be in a human
will actually pop up.

Yeah, so more
training with the body scanner.

Being thorough in our jail,
you know, really pays off

and I think the CO Wipli
did an outstanding job.

Inmate Yellow Thunder
was getting more

and more aggressive
towards jail staff,

threatening to assault
us, break items.

Our glove is one
of the newest use

of force technologies
we have within the jail.

It's basically just metal
contacts on a winter glove.

Unlike the taser
where it deploys

neuromuscular incapacitation
throughout the entire body,

wherever the glove is placed
is where you will feel

that electricity.

It does not go through
the entire body.

So when I grabbed his ankle.

That's where he felt the
pain of the electricity.

Where you
hit? There's three.

Where's the fourth?

Right in his pants.

Woo.

I don't
think it got you.

Nope.

It's
just your pants.

We're going to pull it
out of your pants, okay?

Just so that way it
doesn't poke you.

the taser application
didn't work right away

and our CO did a great job
of realizing it, reapplying,

and then having the glove
there as a backup, you know,

and having to use that even
during the handcuffing sequence.

He's going to see the judge
the next day where, you know,

he could get out, but you
know, inmates have to realize

when you display this kind
of behavior, you know,

you're most likely going
to catch more charges

and keep you longer
in the facility,

which we don't want that.

And I don't think the
inmate wants that either,

but their behavior, you
know, dictates that.

He chose kind of poorly again.

overcrowding

and you have some women that

At one point, she allowed
her to borrow her headphones,

meaning they were on
some type of good terms.

But just to let you
know that at, you know,

spirit of the moment
in one second, it can,

something can change
to where you're about

to have a fight
over some headphones

that you allowed
someone to have.

Yeah, Officer
Richardson did an excellent job

of deescalating the situation,
getting the female out

by herself, talking to her,
calming that inmate down

and then going back in
to address the situation

and separate them I think
was a good job on his part.

When you take off the
uniform,

everybody has a beating heart.

And that heart bleeds the
same blood as everybody.

As long as you're doing
the right thing every day,

doesn't matter if the
camera's rolling or not,

but the camera is that
extra thing to make sure

that we make sure that everybody

is just doing the right thing.

commitment

is always continuing to evolve.

What can we do better?

I'm very happy that we
committed to moving forward

with body cameras in our jail.

The corrections officers here

that worked in the old
facility know what it was like

to work in a jail
that was not safe.

Now they work in
one that is safe.

Our jail has got the foundation
that's set up for success

for many, many years to come.

It seems like the
board of commissioners getting

on board with helping me.

The community has
always been behind me

and the employees are here.

They're sticking it out with me.

And as long as we all work
together, as long as the cameras

are rolling, no one's
going to be invisible
