We left Hawthorne yesterday, and then we
all reconvened with the Jets in Pensacola,

and then this morning we had a beautiful
sunrise flight out.

So we just arrived to Kennedy
Space Center, and this is

the place where we're going
to launch in just a few days.

I know that we're going to be really busy
in the next six days leading up to launch.

We've got some medical
checkouts, we're doing some

research, we're doing
some media, and studying.

I thought launch week I'd be nervous,
but I'm really not at all.

I think we're just, we're just ready.

I'm still into today, and today's a great
day.

I know looking ahead in six days I'm going
to feel very differently, but right now

I'm not thinking about anything else but
how exciting it is.

Some of the biggest milestones that we're
going to have coming up is like there's

dry dress, which is basically the dress
rehearsal.

Everybody's involved.

Mission control, launch directors,
the crew, the families, like everybody is

going through a
simulation of exactly what it

would be, including us
getting strapped in Dragon.

And then you get your L-1, the last day
before launch.

We'll brief the public as to a little bit
more specifics on our mission,

last moment to spend with family, and then
we wake up the next day and we go to space.

The goal for right now is to talk through
what the week will look like.

We did decide a 8 p.m.

start, a 12-hour launch window on the 15th
is kind of what we're targeting right now.

Here's your launch time right there,
and so we're going to do the sleep shifts.

So that you guys are fully optimized.

Going to sleep at 5 a.m.

and waking up at 1.

All your hormone levels
plus the circadian will line up

so that you guys are in a
perfect state for that launch.

So today we're just going to walk
through all these choreography

steps so there's nothing
that pops up and surprises us.

integration engineer at SpaceX.

into the elevator first.

For the I4 crew, I'm also the closeout
lead.

What the closeout lead means is I am in
charge of the day of launch operations.

Basically having everything
scheduled minute by minute

to make sure that we're
going to hit our T0 time.

So if you guys want to go to each of your
stations, we're going to go through crew

warn, which is like what is in your tablet
and what you're wearing in your pocket.

And then we ultimately close the hatch on
them.

on this amazing adventure.

We are at the weather decision point for
the upcoming Instauration 4 mission.

So today we'll be
stepping in to look at the

weather forecast
across ascent and return.

So we have the evening forecast.

The thing we've been
tracking is that tropical

development off to the east
overall pretty good for that.

Really not much difference in the window
as you can see.

Currently right now the
weather is trending great for not

only the launch but also for
the splashdown and recovery.

We have to not only look at launch weather
but also ensure that we'll have good

weather for landing basically three days
from now.

Our launch window is on the 15th Wednesday
between 9 and 10.

8 o'clock at night and 1 in the morning.

And all the weather models and everything
looks like we're trending towards the

front side of that model as being the
best.

Right now here we're getting ready for
what we call dry dress.

Essentially it's a rehearsal for what's
going to happen on launch day.

It's a great kind of end to
end for not only the crew

but also for the team
that's supporting the crew.

We went through all those
different things that you need to

do to make sure you're going

Dry dress was absolutely necessary to have
walked through all those steps and it gave

us a really good indication of the timing
of everything.

We got to put on our spacesuits
and sit in our spacecraft

and it just made us even
more hyped for launch day.

Because what we're doing, it doesn't come

I feel like people ask us, do you

well, I told my family to not blame

will begin suiting up

The astronaut that you
see standing there on

your screen, that is

Once they are suited up, the crew will
make that short drive to the launch pad.

And once they arrive, the
crew will ascend the fixed

service structure in an
elevator up to the 255-foot level.

The crew will then head through the crew
access arm where they will make a final

phone call before climbing into the
spacecraft, a process known as crew ingress.

Just for awareness, we are about ten
minutes ahead of schedule.

And the advance team is ready for us.

There are tremendous emotions when going

And it's just amazing engineering.

The moment I saw the Earth from the
cupola...

was indescribable.

It is the most beautiful thing I've ever
seen in my life.

You know, I wasn't
expecting to get up there

and then see the entire
sphere of the Earth.

It's so big, it takes up the entire
cupola's view.

And then you can see just the blackness of
space around you.

And it's just mesmerizing.

There's very few that
have seen the Earth

from the altitude that
we've been at before.

I mean, it's much higher than the space
station.

So, we could see like... I
mean, it felt like the entirety of it.

You can see someone's head.

They're waving now.

It was so impactful, I couldn't believe
it.

It was overwhelming.

From the cupola, you can see the entire
perimeter of the planet.

From where we started, we can see it all
from here.

I wanted to have the zero-G hair.

Like, I didn't want to hide it.

I wanted it to be as big as possible.

Just showing off my space hair.

I've kept my hair pretty long,
ever since I had cancer.

And it felt like such a celebration.

I was really like this all the time.

And I took a picture of me holding a bald
photo from when I was in treatment.

It felt very indicative of this almost
20-year journey.

For the

years, since I was 10 years old,
I've lost friends to cancer.

And I wanted to make sure they were never
forgotten.

And so I reached out to all their families
before launch.

And said, you know, I want to take the
picture to space.

It

just brought back such good memories of
those friendships.

And just feeling like I had those friends
with me.

I feel so fortunate to be able to
represent all the kids with cancer.

was just the best feeling.

launched?

Yeah, that's a really good question.

So when we first got
strapped into the rocket,

it felt like time was
moving really slowly.

And then when you got down for like the
last five minutes, it was racing.

And before you knew it, you heard liftoff.

And, you know, I just really wanted to
emphasize to them that they can do this too.

So what we're looking at is the Earth from
our perspective.

So we are flying this
huge window, the biggest

window that's ever
been flown in space.

That is really cool.

And looking through the window,
we can see the entire...

Which is passing over some really beautiful
water, beautiful land and lots of clouds.

Haley, she told me
repeatedly that she was looking

forward to the phone call
with the St. Jude patients.

At one point it looked like that might be
kind of hard to accomplish.

And she insisted that that take place.

Because floating is awesome!

All the way fast forward.

She's looking forward to
how she has really dedicated

herself to this mission
for the kids of St. Jude.

And I just want you all to know that
we're...

So for the launch, we sat on Mission
Control at Kennedy Space Center.

As soon as they were on orbit, we jumped
in the jets, flew out here to Hawthorne.

SpaceX's Mission Control went straight to
console to fulfill our roles and

responsibilities supporting
this team to make sure

we execute a safe return
here in a couple days.

Because last time I
checked, everything was

still trending right
around that 5-6 knot.

Which is amazing, because to have seven
locations in Florida in September,

a line is just another testament to the
stars aligning in our house of cards.

There's seven potential
landing sites from the Gulf

side of Florida to the
Atlantic side of Florida.

What is going to govern reentry
is going to be the weather that

we're predicting at one of the
seven potential landing sites.

24 hours prior to splash load.

Every time we pick a location.

And then you start what we call phasing
the orbit.

You actually orbit the
Earth a little bit quicker or a

little bit slower based on
the altitude that you are.

And so you can kind of pick an altitude so
that on that final orbit, the part of the

Earth that has that landing site in it is
going to be aligned.

So you know what would be really cool,
because they have not done this yet,

would be to land right off of the Cape,
Cape North.

That would be another nice first for the
mission.

Pretty ballsy parking in an Elan spot.

Is this Elan's?

Perfect.

He's not going to be here.

What

we're looking at is basically
a mix of three different

things that are kind of
impacting the splashdown time.

We basically have the remnants from
Nicholas, the Gulf areas.

So you can see a lot of
lightning in the southern Gulf or

central Gulf at that time,
just south of most of the sites.

You know, this to me looks like it's a
pretty good setup for the Elan.

The landing site is a little wetter low.

In summary, we're recommending the Cape
North site.

This team has come to the consensus that
is the decision.

We've chosen Cape North
for the landing site, which is

just off of Cape Canaveral
where they launched from.

It'll be the first time SpaceX has landed
Dragon in the Atlantic Ocean.

All the previous ones have been in the
Gulf of Mexico.

So everybody there in Florida will
potentially have the opportunity to see

Dragon fly by before she deploys her
parachutes and comes on down safely.

So it looks like we might have a video

What we're going to do is try to pull up

So this started off, uh, like our first
day on orbit, pretty much frozen solid.

And it was like a coffee slushy.

And now it's like nice and lukewarm.

So it's getting a little bit closer to home
and we're getting closer to home today.

The crew have gone approximately 38
circumnavigations of the globe as of the

time they went to bed which was around 5
30 a.m our time.

They did a lot yesterday.

Today will be basically wake up and get
really into focus for return.

We will experience a short period of comp
blackout.

It could be around seven minutes.

This is really normal.

This happens due to the heating
experienced by the aircraft.

The spacecraft during re-entry.

During re-entry, there is risk involved.

You have a lot of energy, right?

So you lose some thermal protection on
re-entry.

When you're ready to re-enter, you
start firing your rockets to slow down.

Your altitude starts decaying.

Now the drag of the atmosphere starts
slowing the vehicle down.

They're going to be
seeing out the side windows

some flame or some
heat as it's coming down.

At that point, you lose control of the
spacecraft during re-entry.

You lose voice transmission for about
seven minutes.

It's possible to lose the vehicle that
way, kind of like we lost Columbia.

You can't put a, you know, a giant bubble
around everything and call it safe.

You know, you have to step out and say,
hey, there is this risk here.

I'm willing to accept it for the goal that
I'm about to achieve.

Haley said that she's looking forward to
my hug when she comes back.

But she said, but don't crush me,
mom.

I made no promise.

You're up there!

I remember flying with you guys saying we
can't climb a mountain.

Are you so surprised for this?

It was, uh, surreal.

Alright, Jared, everything's looking
really good for your return to earth.

Continuing on to vehicle
status, we are healthy

and looking good
for the orbit and entry.

Landing will be approximately 7 minutes.

Eastern Time, right before sunset.

Regarding the recovery team, they are in
position and ready to support.

Currently launching fast boats.

We're going to have a good sunset
overflight of Florida.

I always think about, like, what is the
worst thing that can happen in every phase?

And what am I going to do about it?

And what can I do about it?

Big one kind of on the
way downhill is going to be,

we have a much, much
higher risk of micrometeorite.

Orbital debris hits at the altitude we
flew at than the space station.

It will be the highest risk for the
mission.

So it was like, you
wouldn't know if you took a

hit until you're entering
the Earth's atmosphere.

And that's where you could have a
situation like we saw in the past.

That's one of those where there's nothing
we can do about this right now.

You just got to, you just got to hope.

In the back of my mind, I mean,
I'm not going there.

But I know what the risks were.

There's Splashdown and there's getting the
capsule onto a boat.

And then getting in helicopter.

And so it will be a great relief that
she's back.

In Pacific time, we'll have the beginning
of the de-orbit burn, and that is what

will line up Dragon for re-entry into
Earth's atmosphere.

During re-entry, we will have an expected
loss of communications with Dragon for

about seven minutes as Dragon passes back
into the Earth's atmosphere.

A few minutes after we get communications
back, we're going to start to deploy our

parachutes to bring
vehicle velocity down to just

15 miles an hour, at which
point we have splashdown.

Dragon, de-orbit sequence start in five
minutes.

of about 3,500 degrees,

preventing communication
with the Dragon spacecraft.

So we should, in a couple minutes here,
start hearing some comms from the core

checking in to regain that communication
with Dragon.
