- [Mysterious Voice] He's watching you.

- [Mac] We'd like to get a little video of everyone

before we head on out there.

And basically wanna know your name

and your why for being out here today.

- Hi guys. My name is Cammy.

I decided to come out here today

and test myself to my limits

while my husband stayed at home and watched our kid.

(footsteps crunching)

Just fucking do it! Just fucking do it!

Don't fucking waste my time!

(gunshot blasts)

(ominous music)

- Hey guys, it's Alannah, and this is day one of training.

And you guys are gonna be my accountability partners.

And if you're gonna hold me accountable,

you should know what you're holding me accountable for.

So found this flyer on a bulletin here in town

for a ruck march,

and I'm sure you're wondering what a ruck march is,

but I guess we're just gonna have to find out together

here in seven weeks when I join this free event

that's supposed to test my mental

and physical health and work on team building,

overcoming adversity, you know, all that fun jazz.

And it's free, which is probably the best part.

I already did all the rough stuff with having a kid,

but I wanna prove that I can do even more.

So I have my weights here for exercising

and 35 pounds in this backpack so I can practice.

Let's get after it.

Five minutes in feels like five hours.

I don't know how I'm gonna do this for 16 hours.

Whew, okay.

But we can do this, right? We can do this.

It'll be fine.

I mean, it's beautiful, you know, for the desert.

(energetic hiphop music)

Alright guys, day one, three miles in.

Couple exercises and really definitely felt it.

But let's see how far we can take this.

See you guys next time.

We're gonna go treat ourselves to a little pond.

So let's go.

We're gonna hit some exercises over there.

Maybe a change of scenery will make it a little easier.

Whew.

- Hey guys, it's Alannah again and I'm back at the park.

Only this time I've convinced my best friend, Emily,

that she has to train with me,

though it shouldn't have been a hard choice for her,

considering I'm there every time

one of her dating app errors happens,

but, oh, here she comes.

Hey, ho.

- What's up, bitch?

I hate you, by the way.

This was a dumb idea.

- [Alannah] This is not a dumb idea.

It's better than your normal ways you spend time

with your guys

(Emily laughs)

and yourself.

- So great. What's wrong with it?

(sighs) Fantastic.

Okay, well let's, let's get it.

Let's do this.

Only three weeks till I get to die in the desert.

So might as well train for it.

- [Alannah] Three weeks till you get to die in the desert

with your best friend and a strange man you've never met.

- Exactly, exactly.

I mean, look at us.

(upbeat music)

Look at us, we're so in sync.

- I know. That's what I'm saying.

Look at you.

- Oh.

Ugh, okay.

(static buzzing)

Wow. Pumping them out.

- [Emily] I know.

- She, uh, she might not have been ready for this.

You look great.

- Fuck you, hon. This sucks.

- [Alannah] You look beautiful, Em.

Look at you.

(Emily breathing heavily)

- Whew!

Hon, you're an asshole.

Oh my gosh. - An asshole that loves you.

- [Emily] Yeah.

(upbeat music)

- You have much better form than me.

This exercise, you get a 10 outta 10.

(both speaking faintly)

- This is heavy.

- But it'll be worth it.

It can't be any heavier than carrying around your kid.

Oh, sorry. Dil's kid.

(Emily laughs)

- [Emily] He's lighter. Thank you.

- [Alannah] I don't know what you're talking about.

I think if I carry half of this, he's probably that much.

(Emily laughs)

- [Emily] He's a little chunky guy.

- [Alannah] The cutest chunky guy.

- I know, that's what I'm saying.

- [Alannah] How's that going by the way?

- It's going good.

I thought it would be weird dating a guy with a kid,

but I don't know.

I don't mind it.

- [Alannah] Well, it suits you well. Family life.

- Hello, stepmother. (laughs)

- [Alannah] It's only three more days.

- Ugh, I know.

Three days. I do not feel prepared.

- [Alannah] Well, we only have to be prepared for 16 hours.

- You owe me. You totally owe me.

- [Alannah] I will pay you back tenfold.

- Nice puppy. - Oh my God.

What a cute puppy. - Hey ladies.

Would you like to touch my wiener?

- What did you say? Ugh. - God.

- Ugh, gross. - I was talking about my dog.

What the hell's wrong with you? Fuck.

- Men.

- Alright, here we go.

Picking her up, late as always,

make sure the texts actually sent

before I start talking all this trash.

Oh, there she is.

The lady of the hour.

The bestest of besties.

- I think I'm gonna die.

- No, you're gonna be fine.

Say you're gonna be fine.

- Okay, I'm gonna put this in the back.

- All right. - Who's that?

- [Alannah] Well, howdy there.

- You guys making a movie outta this thing?

- [Alannah] Trying.

- Oh boy, I can't wait to watch the footage of this back.

That oughta be fun.

- You and everybody else. - Hey.

She is really good coyote bait.

So just look out for her please.

She's a little fragile.

- Alright, I promise.

No coyotes. - I'm gonna be fine.

I'll be okay.

- You'll have fun.

Can you say bye?

- Bye. - Say, "Have fun."

- Bye, I'll see you later. - Bye.

- All right. We'll be waiting for you when you get back.

- Okay, bye. - Bye.

- [Alannah] All right, camera.

There we go. - Thank you. Thank you.

- Perfect.

All right, now we're embarking.

- [Emily] Thank you so much for driving.

My car probably would not have made it that distance.

It would've blown up on me for sure.

- Whoa, whoa. - Oh.

- Even the camera guy needs her seatbelt, okay?

- Okay, right. - Safety first. Okay?

I can't kill you before we start.

Dil will never forgive me.

- [Emily] Yeah, no, you are absolutely right.

Alright, tell me, what kind of food did you bring to this?

I packed some PB and Js and some of my favorite gummy fish.

- Well, you're doing better than me.

I packed some disgusting power bars, so.

- [Emily] Ew.

- Hey, nutrients over taste and flavor

and all that other jazz.

- [Emily] Yeah, see, my thought was,

I'm just gonna need sugar to get me through this.

So that's what I brought.

- You know, I like your logic a little bit better.

- [Emily] I'll share my fish with you.

It's okay. - You're the best.

- [Emily] You're welcome. I got you, girl.

Oh, this is gonna be terrible.

- Oh, for sure.

- [Emily] But you know what? It's gonna be terrible.

And at the end of it we're gonna get a handshake.

Why not?

- So, Dil seems pretty sweet.

- [Emily] Oh yeah.

I've been enjoying hanging out with him.

- Yeah, he seems a lot better than that ex of yours.

What was his name, Christian?

- [Emily] Yeah, no, he definitely was the worst.

I don't know.

I was pretty surprised

when Dil asked me to move in with him,

But I don't know, I'm just kind of embracing it,

going with the flow and I've been having a lot of fun.

- [Emily] Yes.

- And then you never have to do it again.

- [Emily] Yeah, never say never.

No, just kidding.

I'll never do it again. - You're right. You're right.

We're gonna be like eight hours in and you're gonna realize

you're just in love with hiking and craziness.

- [Emily] Yeah, no.

I doubt it. I'm only doing this for you, so.

- Well, I appreciate you. - Yes.

Because I just love our friendship and you that much.

- Yeah, I mean, if our friendship

can withstand something like this,

it's gonna last forever.

You're never getting rid of me.

- [Emily] Yeah.

- [Alannah] Think of it and not get singled out as much.

- [Emily] Yeah, no, heard that.

Or you know, look, there's a guy, oh my goodness.

There's a guy waving,

could persuade some cute guys to carry our stuff for us.

- [Alannah] Cute guys?

Two seconds ago you said you were gonna miss Dil.

Let's chill.

- Hey. - Okay.

If I don't have to carry the weight,

then you know, that's a win for me, right?

Right? - Already directing traffic.

Okay. Alright, here we go. - Ooh, he's cute.

- [Alannah] Yeah.

- [Emily] He's gonna carry our stuff for us.

- Ooh, I bet you if we ask him real nicely

and I bat my eyelashes, right?

- [Emily] See? Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

- Okay. - I'm just kidding.

We're strong, independent women, right?

- [Alannah] Oh.

- [Emily] Okay, can you take this?

- Yeah. Give me that. - It's recording.

- [Alannah] Oh, okay. Hello.

- So excited!

Just kidding. We're gonna die.

How are we supposed to hike with all this weight?

- [Alannah] You really went hard there.

- It's the only thing I had.

Ugh. It's a good thing we worked out for this.

Oh my goodness.

I could not imagine doing this without training.

- Are you guys here for the ruck march?

- [Alannah] That's us. Yeah.

- This thing right here? - Yeah.

- All right, cool.

So they're gonna do interviews over there by that hut.

So if you guys don't mind going on over there

and getting interviewed.

What do you say?

- Sounds great, yeah. - Alright cool.

Well, nice to meet you guys.

- [Emily] Yeah, nice to see you too.

Okay, let's go say goodbye to our families forever.

(group chattering)

That's crazy.

All these people, why would they want to do this?

- [Alannah] Some people have real reasons

and some people like to better themselves.

- [Emily] Uh, guilt tripping is a great reason. Thank you.

I do it out of love for you.

- Well, I quit after high school because like-

- [Alannah] Oh, okay, I guess we just like, uh-

- [Emily] Just make our way through.

- Yeah, navigate. - Hey, how's it going?

- [Emily] Hey!

- [Mac] Alright. Alright.

And what brings all of you out here to the march?

- Hey, my name's Donovan.

I saw the flyer in town.

Figured I'd wanna come check it out.

Just found these folks,

kind of recruited them in, brought 'em along.

Hopefully we're gonna have a good time tonight.

- I'm just here to show off my booty shorts.

- [Alannah] This must be

the interviewing people he was talking about.

- Yeah, okay.

- [Alannah] You're gonna be nice, right?

During your interview.

- Yeah, totally. - Yeah?

- Of course. - 'Cause you're such an angel?

- Yeah. - Uh-huh.

- Hey there, you two. - Hi.

- Just get here? New recruits.

- Yes. - Alright. I'm Mac.

We are doing a, we're doing a little thing here.

We're gonna get your name

and get why you're out here, what brought you out.

So come on around, we'll just-

- Okay.

Okay, I'm Alannah and I just had a kid

and kind of let myself go afterwards,

but I used to be in really good shape,

so I wanted to prove I could do it again.

So for the last two months

I've been getting myself back out in shape

and now I'm gonna test it and see how we do, yeah?

Yeah. - Yeah.

My name's Emily.

I'm out here because my asshole best friend

guilt tripped me into coming.

Isn't that right, asshole?

(Mac chuckles)

- [Mac] Well, thank you folks.

I'll see you out there in a little while.

- Sounds good. Let's get it!

(both laughing)

Okay, let's go mingle.

I'm telling you. Let's go find that cute guy.

I bet I could persuade him to carry our stuff.

- [Alannah] Oh yeah.

I know you already have 70 pounds on your back,

but what's 140 more?

- That's what I'm saying, yeah.

- Alright. - Let's do it.

- [Alannah] Come on.

My little social butterfly over here.

- I know, you know? - Didn't wanna do it.

- Might as well.

I know, but might as well make friends during the process.

Oh, they all look friendly.

Yep. - Where should we start?

- There's always one. - Hey guys.

- Hey. - Hi.

Are you guys ready for today?

- So excited. - Yeah.

- We're ready, yeah. - Oh man.

It's gonna be a blast.

Have you guys done this before?

- No. - No?

- Not this specific event, no.

- Oh, okay.

- So I'm excited to see what it's gonna be like.

- Yeah, it's a lot. - It'll be a good challenge.

- Right? Yeah. - Yeah.

- Hopefully.

Yeah. - Moving on.

More hopeful. - Yes.

- [Alannah] We're excited to see you guys on the trail.

- Yes.

- Oh, hi. - Hi.

- How's it going? - Hello, I'm Emily.

- Hi Emily. - This is my friend Alannah.

- Hi, Alannah. - Hi.

- You guys excited? - Yeah.

- No, it's gonna be fun.

I just keep telling myself that.

You know? - Right?

- I don't even know what I got myself into.

- We're on our honeymoon, so.

- Oh, you're on your honeymoon?

- Mm-hmm. - Congratulations.

That's awesome. - Thanks.

- You guys are doing this? - Yeah, yeah.

- See that? - It seems exciting.

- That's real love, Em. - I'm here for moral support.

- Yeah, I gotcha.

- We thought it'd be fun. (laughs)

- [Emily] Yeah, oh man.

- [Alannah] That's what true love looks like, Em.

- Yeah. Hey, I'm doing this for you too, so.

- [Alannah] True love.

- My love for you.

Okay, well yeah, we'll see you guys around.

- Yeah. - Okay, yeah.

- We can make it. - Definitely must.

- Yes, I think we got it.

- [Alannah] You should tell your face.

(Emily laughs)

- Look, you know,

we just gotta think of the bright side here.

Hi guys.

- Good afternoon. - Hey, I'm Emily.

- How are you? - This is my friend Lon.

- Hello. - Nice to meet you.

- Yeah, have you guys done this before?

- No, this is my first time.

- Yeah. - I'm excited.

- How about you? - No. Yeah, no.

This is my first time too.

Not really sure what we're doing, so.

- Yeah, I have no idea.

I hear we're gonna be walking.

- Yeah. - Hiking a little bit.

- Hiking about your trail. - I mean, I can walk.

- How hard could it be? - Yeah, I've hiked before.

(all chattering)

- One foot in front of the other, right?

- Positive attitude, that's all you need.

You're halfway there.

- Yeah, exactly. - Yeah, positive attitude.

- Yeah, exactly. Yeah.

We'll just keep, keep doing it.

- Just keep going, keep going.

- I know. Yeah.

My friend Lannah told me about this

and she's like, "We gotta train."

Okay.

- Alright, and did you train?

- A little bit, yeah. - Okay.

- Her definitely more than me, but that's okay.

- [Alannah] She's super strong.

Don't let her undersell herself, okay?

- Alright. - We're gonna kill it.

- How much do you have in that pack right there?

- About 70-ish pounds. - Dang.

- Right? Isn't that the limit? Right?

- Yeah. - That's the limit, right?

- Exactly 70.

- That's right. - Not a hair more.

- Sounds great. - Alright, yeah.

Well, we'll see you guys out there.

- Nice to meet you. - Yeah.

Nice to meet you guys too.

- Oh my God.

- Oh, hey there. - Oh, hey.

- You look like you need some extra weight on your back.

- Extra weight. You know what?

I am holding it down so that if anybody wants

to bring in some extra weight, that's what my bag is for.

- Well, that's perfect. - Yeah.

- [Alannah] Turns out 70 pounds is too much.

- Oh, you want to switch?

- [Donovan] Don't let this guy fool you.

He's strong like Hercules.

- I believe it. - Yeah, exactly.

I just don't wanna show it, you know?

I'm saving it for the competition.

- Yeah. - Yeah.

- Or I mean, you could showcase it now.

- See, the endurance is about,

or sorry, the Ruck March is about endurance,

so no, I'm not going to show that right now.

I need to save my energy for miles and miles down the road.

- Perfect.

So miles and miles down the road, you'll grab it?

- [Alannah] So about halfway, eight hours?

- Yeah, close to the finish line, we'll switch.

- [Alannah] Oh.

- You know when we get there, this is the finish line.

He'll grab it there.

- Oh, okay. - Oh, okay.

Sounds like a lot of help.

- [Hector] You gotta trust me. You gotta trust me.

- Yeah.

- [Alannah] All right. She's on.

- Perfect, yeah. - Yeah.

- You gotta help me with this.

I'm doing all the talking, girl.

Why do I keep bumping into you?

- I know, it's this big old bag that you have here.

- I know, yeah, it's my backpacking bag.

- What were you planning for?

- Well, I've never done a ruck before.

- She's like, ready to hike to the top of like-

- Everest. - I don't know, yeah. Everest.

Yeah, biggest elevation gain ever.

- Yeah, well, I don't know, like-

- [Alannah] Hey, starts with the backyard ruck march.

- Yeah. - Ends with Kilimanjaro.

- That's what I'm saying, yeah!

- That's not a bad plan. - Oh, huh?

(crowd chattering)

- You should start formation!

- [Alannah] I don't know.

I am just gonna follow what everybody else does.

- Okay. - So, uh-

- [Emily] Follow the crowd? I'm good with that.

- Yep.

Oh, um.

Sure.

- Ladies and gentlemen,

my name is Bray and welcome to the Ruck March.

- I guess he's in charge? - Yeah.

- You're in for 16 hours of shenanigans.

Little bit of help.

This is my cameraman, Mac.

Mac is gonna record our little adventure.

I don't expect all of you to survive,

but those that do in a couple weeks,

you have a nice little keepsake

that honestly most people won't care about.

Did everybody do their interview videos?

- Yes. - Everybody's good?

- Yes. - Okay. Alright.

Now, expect the unexpected tonight.

This is gonna test you mentally and physically.

Some rules though, you guys aren't gonna like this,

but it's the way it is.

There is no food, there is no cameras.

- Wait a minute. - There is no phones.

There is no smartwatch.

- Question from earlier. - So.

- [Emily] My gummy fish.

- If you guys have that stuff, put it in this box.

Move!

- [Alannah] Okay, hold on.

- Alright guys.

Now what needs to happen, you guys have three minutes.

I don't care how you do it.

We have some heavy sandbags over there.

We have this box with all your stuff.

It needs to come with us, grab it.

And then we're gonna have two files

when you head up into the hills.

You understand?

- Yes sir. - Alright, let's move.

Go!

(static buzzes)

(group chattering)

- Line one.

Line two.

- Really?

(group chattering)

- Ready for this, Mac?

- [Mac] Absolutely. Always ready.

- It's gonna be a wild time.

We got some good people.

- [Mac] Yeah, better than that last group.

- [Bray] Way better.

- [Mac] Let's whip 'em into shape.

- Second girl.

The brown girl with the pigtails.

She's all right.

Let's go! Follow me.

(group chattering)

- Okay, I can do that.

Ugh, okay.

- Oh man.

- Hey, lead them.

I'm gonna take a drone shot.

- Yes sir. - Alright.

(drone whirring) (suspenseful music)

(group chattering)

- [Mac] Come on, fella.

Don't fall behind.

(static crackling)

What's your why? What brought you out here?

- I wanna test myself mentally and physically.

I wanna bond with my dad.

I wanna have a great time out here just getting sweaty.

- Really I'm just here for her.

I didn't want to come.

She kind of talked me into it.

So I'm here to support her in this.

- Thanks, Dad.

- You're welcome.

(drone whirring)

(group chattering)

- Yeah, I'm gonna give these guys a break over here.

- Ha, do they deserve it? - No. No, not at all.

(Mac chuckling)

(group chattering)

- [Bray] Alright guys, let's get over here.

Let's take a little break.

- Woo! (group chattering)

- Something tells me he's not- - Me? Moi?

- Something tells me he's not the motivator.

- I agree with that.

You don't think I could give a good motivational speech?

- Well, no. You for sure. - Oh.

- But I don't expect much from what did he say his name was?

- [Bray] You should get over here if you want a break.

- Satan?

(Emily laughs)

(group chattering)

- All right guys, if everyone's done going to the bathroom.

Pick up your heavy things. Let's get ready to go.

- Hey, um,

hey, does anyone know where my dad is?

- Oh yeah.

See, I was at the end and he decided to just stay back.

He says it's just not for him, but don't worry.

He told me that he wants you to just finish the trail

and you know, he's really pushing for you.

So don't worry. It's fine.

- Are you serious? - Yeah.

- There's, there's no way

he would've just dropped out like that.

- Well, it's just not for him.

It's not for everybody, you know?

- Another one bites the dust.

Guys, this sort of thing happens all the time. Alright?

Every time I leave one of these people's,

people's egos get bruised and before you know it,

they just up and vanish

because they don't want to tell everybody

that they're not tough enough to do it.

Alright? So we just gotta go.

We just gotta go.

Get your stuff. Come on.

- Let's hit it. - All set.

- Gentlemen. - That's a big boy.

- That is a big boy. - Had a nice hike today?

- Yes sir. - Not too bad.

- We made it. - Sorry.

Sorry for the- - Excuse me. This elevation.

- Sorry for the traffic jam.

- Yep, this elevation. Good luck.

- Alright guys, so I took all your food, right?

So how you feeling? Is your energy low?

- Of course. - Yeah.

- Sucking at life right now?

Alright, so in my years of training, there's a thing,

it's called go ugly early.

Alright, when you're in a survival situation,

you don't have any food, you go ugly early,

which means you grab any edible source that you can,

whether it be plants that you know of,

animals, bugs, anything like that, okay?

Gives you the nutrients that you need

to make a sound decision.

If you're afraid to go ugly early,

well then you might make some bonehead decisions

and get yourself killed.

Now I need a few people who are pretty hungry right now.

Any volunteers?

- Stop. (laughs)

- I'll do it. - Go do it.

- One, two, three. - Can you do it with me?

- Four, okay.

Alright, you guys come right over here.

- What you got in there a souffle?

- Right, make sure you get a nice closeup of each person.

Okay? We'll do one at a time.

- What the hell is that? - One at a time.

Alright guys, it's time to go ugly early.

- Oh shit, what the hell? - What?

- Oh yeah. - Uh...

- You got this, little buddy. - Alright.

Let's start with the first brave volunteer.

- Oh. - Get that nutrition.

- [Alannah] You just squeeze all the poop out.

- Oh my gosh.

- [Bray] A little poop never hurt anybody.

There's extra protein get in there.

- Oh man. - Oh!

- Oh no. - Geez.

- Oh my God. - Oh yeah.

(group clapping) (group cheering)

- [Bray] Good sir. You're next.

- All right. - Okay.

- [Bray] You got this, bud.

- [Emily] You squeeze the poop out? You just like-

- If I remember correctly, just.

- Okay. - Oops.

- What if? - Uh, it's not working.

- [Alannah] Can I just close my eyes and eat?

- [Bray] You gotta start down the barrel.

- Woo! - Yeah!

(group clapping) (group cheering)

- [Bray] Nice.

- Okay. - Alright, Lon.

Your turn, girl. - Next one.

- Uh. - What the fuck?

(group laughing)

- Okay, um. - It tastes like chicken.

- [Mac] Show the nice camera what you have.

- [Weasel] Tastes like a expired chicken.

- Oh my God!

(Mac laughing)

- Ugh.

- [Brigid] Why are you finding me the longest one in there?

- Woo.

(group clapping) (group cheering)

- [Bray] All right, last great volunteer.

- Oh, that one's juicy. - Oh, I just rip 'em off?

So dirty.

Okay. Oh my goodness.

- Gnarly. - Yeah, yeah!

(group clapping) (group cheering)

You got this!

- Don't do it, no. - Yeah!

- Ugh. - That's how you feel?

Imagine how the worm feels.

(group laughing)

(static buzzing)

- You got this. - Oh no.

- [Alannah] Come on. You got it, don't upchuck.

- Oh no. (Brigid coughing)

Oh, it's just in the back of your throat.

Fight it. Fight it.

- Woo! - Yeah!

(group clapping) (group cheering)

- Alright, you guys have five minutes.

Go to the bathroom, do whatever. Yada yada.

Alright guys, you good? Everybody back?

- Oh yeah. - Alright.

Pick up your stuff. Let's continue on.

- Has anybody seen that girl in the black

who was with us earlier?

- No. - Yeah.

- Like all black? - Yeah, she couldn't do it.

- She took off. - Wait.

- Hey, why don't you narrow that down?

What do you mean?

Like she had all black clothing on.

- Real specific. - She had black hair.

- Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Black hair. Black hair.

Short black hair.

- Yeah, she was in my crew. - Yeah.

She couldn't do it. What can I say?

- So now we gotta carry all this stuff?

Another person leaving?

- Unfortunately. - Just leave it here.

- All right. - I dunno.

- Great, it's just the way life is.

- Yep. - It sucks for you.

(group chattering)

- If she goes back. - Yeah.

- Got that hamburger too. (group chattering)

- Some people can't hang. (chuckles)

- So we just got married

and we decided to go onto this little adventure and-

- Ruck March.

- Yeah, the Ruck March. (laughs)

And I brought my girlfriend with me.

(group chattering)

- Why'd you decide to come and do this by yourself?

- 'Cause my husband's lame

and he didn't wanna come with me.

- Oh? - Yeah.

(static crackling)

- Hey, what's your name?

- Name's River. What's your name?

- That's cool. I'm Edison.

- Nice to meet you. - Yeah, nice to meet you.

Thanks for carrying this shit with me.

- Oh yeah. Someone's gotta do it, right?

- Who'd you come here with today?

- I came with my friends.

They just got married, but I haven't seen them in a while.

I hope they're okay.

- Really? - Yeah.

- They're not here? - No, I haven't seen them.

Actually.

- Uh, okay.

- [River] I hope they didn't leave though.

- [Edison] I hope they didn't leave either.

We got a lot of stuff to carry.

- It happens sometimes, you two.

People drop out.

- Oh, gosh. - Put them down.

(group chattering)

- [Bray] So have you guys

ever done anything like this before?

- This is my first time. - Is it?

- It's been a first time in a long time.

- Yeah?

So how you feeling?

You feeling like you're gonna quit or anything?

- No. - No?

- I think I still got a little bit left in me.

- You got some in you? - Yeah.

- That's what I'm talking about.

- Makes me feel young again.

(Bray chuckles)

- What about you Mac?

You gonna quit on me?

- [Mac] Never.

- Oh, Mac. The Big Mac.

- Yeah, she just disappeared. - You know me, boss.

- The final stretch. - I don't know.

Don't you think that's kind suspicious?

- I think it's Kind of sad, really,

to quit that early.

But it's really outta character for my dad.

It doesn't seem like he would quit this early.

- Some people just really can't handle it.

And you know, with his age, you know?

- It is really hot out here.

I heard that old folks can't really handle the heat as well.

- Yeah, don't want your old man to get heat stroke, do you?

- No.

Well, I guess it's a good thing he's taking care of himself.

- Yeah, I'm glad too.

And I hope that in the end you get to go home and see him.

- I hope so too.

Maybe he'll be proud of me if I finish this whole thing.

- I'm sure he would be. - Who wouldn't be?

- Right.

Any dad would be proud

of his daughter for something like this.

- [Margo] Right, I feel like

it would be out of character if he wasn't.

(group chattering)

- How long have you had your dog for?

- Huh? - Years.

- I don't understand what's going on.

There's people missing.

There's like,

three or four of us missing here and we're hungry.

How do we get our food?

- You're not gonna get your food.

Alright? I told you. - That's bullshit, man.

- This is freaking testing you guys-

(static crackling)

and physically, alright?

And people quit.

- Where is everybody going?

- People quit this shit all the time.

- Well, that's bullshit, man.

We are they? Are they okay?

- I'm sure they're fine.

They're probably home.

- We're hungry, we're tired. - They're probably home.

- How am I gonna get food? - You signed up for this.

I don't give a shit. Get back in line.

Get back in line!

- [Mac] Hustle, soldier.

- [Hiker] This is bullshit.

- [Mac] Woo, Bray.

Our first whiner of the day.

- The girl wearing booty shorts.

What a surprise.

(Mac chuckles)

(group chattering) - I have a cramp.

- All right, guys.

We're gonna take down your stuff.

Take out your backpacks, take out your sandbags.

We're gonna take a little break.

(group chattering)

- I will not be zipping that back up.

- So is this the break

where we get to eat our food that we brought break?

- You get your food at hour 16.

Food is not part of this.

- I mean, this worm is not gonna be enough

to sustain me for the rest of this.

It's not my only concern.

I mean, we have like, six people

that have gone fucking missing.

Unaccounted for.

- [Mac] Not my problem.

- I mean, this is nuts. - It happens.

- I, I just, I can't take this shit.

I'm out. Fuck it.

- [Mac] You're out?

Get out then. Leave.

- You know what? No.

- We'll miss you, Bri. - You're out too?

- I'm fucking outta here.

- Piss off, buddy.

- [Mac] People can't handle the ruckus.

- Oh, fuck off. - Come on.

Don't quit. - Fuck off.

- Alright, so screw them. Alright?

Spoiler alert,

(static crackling)

we're gonna go for a little bit more

and then we're gonna stop again

because I have a special surprise for you, alright?

- I love surprises. - You love surprises?

It's a fantastic surprise.

You're gonna enjoy it very much, okay?

- Alright. - Cool.

So take five minutes, go to the bathroom,

drink some water, whatever you need to do.

Five minutes, go.

- I really hope it's the gummies.

- Not the power bars?

- Well, my power bars are with the gummies.

Thank you so much for your help.

- Told you I can carry some weight.

- [Hector] Yes. You're not wrong.

- Alright guys.

Go ahead and put your sandbags down.

Spread out.

Take your backpacks off.

Alright, folks.

You guys ready for your surprise?

- Yes. - Alright.

- The good news is

I know what happened to the people that went missing.

- Where's, where's my dad? - I thought they just quit.

- [Bray] The bad news.

- What the fuck is that? - What?

- You're all gonna die.

(gunshot blasts)

(victims screaming)

(victims screaming)

(bones crack)

(gunshot blasts)

(gunshot blasts)

(footsteps crunching)

- Just fucking do it!

Just fucking do it!

Don't fucking waste my time!

(gunshot blasts)

- Alright.

Hope you guys kept two of 'em.

You guys keep two of them alive?

- [Hector] We got two here.

- Nice. (laughs)

(static crackling)

Oh good.

Two of the brave girls that ate worms.

Alright.

- Why are you guys doing this?

- You'll find out.

Come on, let's go.

- So wait.

- [Alannah] Why are you guys doing this?

We just wanna go home.

We didn't deserve any of this.

- [Bray] Shut up. People die every day.

(static buzzing)

- Hey, we're heading to the spot.

Bring the trucks. Get those bodies.

- I'm so sorry, Em.

I didn't know this was gonna happen.

- Hey, good job, Weasel.

- [Emily] Oh my God!

(Emily sobbing)

(captors laughing)

Why are you doing this?

We just wanna go home!

We don't deserve this!

- [Bray] Hey, Mac!

Hey you wanna check this one?

Flair for the dramatics.

- [Mac] Oh, I had a few dramatics, huh?

All right.

You know, you two, back in the 1960s,

they detonated an underground nuke around here.

People thought it didn't affect anything

and those people were wrong.

It left something out here, contaminated the water.

And when it got used for crops or drinking water,

yeah, it definitely left something out here.

And when some folks with deep pockets found out about it,

well, that's when they hired people like us.

- [Alannah] Hired? Hired for what?

- [Bray] You're part of the show.

You are the stars.

- [Emily] Show? What the fuck are talking about?

What show? - I just wanna go home.

(Bray speaking faintly)

- Okay.

Ladies, like I said,

you're stars of the show.

So what's gonna happen now

I'm gonna put these cameras on your heads.

You guys have your lights around your neck.

If you guys touch your lights or your cameras,

you'll get shot right away.

Do you understand me?

Do you understand me?

- Yes. - Yes.

- Now you have two options.

There's a staircase there.

You can either take a bullet right now and it all ends,

or, or go up the stairs.

- [Alannah] Let's just go up the stairs.

- [Emily] Yeah, we'll handle whatever's up there.

(footsteps crunching)

- [Alannah] I'm so sorry, Em.

- [Emily] I can't look.

(footsteps crunching)

(static crackling)

Oh my God. What is he doing?

(ominous music)

(Alannah screaming)

- [Alannah] Come on!

- [Emily] Run!

Oh my God.

Holy shit! Oh my God!

Oh shit! Oh shit!

Oh shit! (sobbing)

- Oh, this is gonna be good.

(camera buzzing)

Alright guys, I think she's coming.

- [Bray] Best sporting event of the year.

Oh, he's gonna get you.

Bob and weave! Bob and weave!

(mutant roaring)

(Emily shouting)

- [Emily] Stop!

- [Hector] Oh yeah.

Oh, I haven't seen that movie before. (chuckles)

(mutant breathing heavily)

(footsteps rustling)

(footsteps continue rustling)

(mutant growling)

(mutant roaring) (Emily screaming)

- Oh, he got her. (laughs) (camera buzzes)

(mutant growling)

(blood squelching)

(mutant breathing heavily)

Alright, let's go get that footage

or we ain't getting paid, brother.

Alright. Yeah.

(mutant growling)

(blood squelching)

(footsteps rustling)

- Alright. I'm gonna go track 'em.

Get ready for transport.

- [Mac] You got this.

- Fuck!

Jesus!

- [Mac] Oh shit.

(mutant roaring)

Oh sh-

Shit!

(Bray screaming)

Fuck. Fuck.

(mutant growling)

(mutant roaring)

(blood squelching) (mutant slurping)

(walkie-talkie beeps)

- Bray, we're coming to your location right now.

Number one escaped.

Bray? Bray, are you there?

Bray?

Bray! Are you there?

We're coming to your location right now!

- [Ranger Hart] This is Ranger Hart.

We've got multiple casualties scattered throughout the area.

It's bad. It's real bad.

It's like they were just...

Hold on.

I see someone over there.

It's like he's wearing a mask.

I'm gonna go question him.

Standby.

(static crackling)

- Alright, boss.

Last show was a disappointment.

Didn't have a lot of people.

This show, I'm in Fallon right now, handing out flyers.

Gonna have a good time.

Check it out.

Come join me out in the desert.

- Hey Dad, look, it's a ruck march.

- Yeah. - We should go together.

It's been ages since we did any sort of hiking or rucking.

- I'm too old for this shit.

- Come on. - No.

That's not the case at all.

Come on. You just dug out the front yard the other day.

- So are you in? - Oh, I'm in for sure.

- [Bray] Hell yeah. What about you?

- Sounds like a scam to me.

- [Bray] Hey guys.

Hey, check it out. Check it out.

Having a ruck march.

- You wasted paper on this crap?

Man, look at this. Get outta here, man.

You can see I'm busy.

- [Bray] Asshole.

Oh, cute.

Ladies, ladies, ladies.

- Hi. - Check it out. Check it out.

You looking for a good time?

Come hang out in the desert with me.

- What? What is this exactly?

- [Bray] Basically, you're gonna come out

in the desert with me, have a backpack.

I'll take you on a hike, 16 hours.

It's gonna test you mentally and physically.

It's gonna be amazing.

- $0? - No, I don't.

I don't know if that's something that we're interested in.

- I don't know. Out in the desert.

That's not really our thing.

- We don't wanna be out in the desert alone with a man.

You know?

- Oh, you sure? - Yeah.

- We'll we'll take it though. - It's a good time.

- No, we're okay.

- Yeah, we're good. Thank you.

- It's nice meet you. - Have a nice day.

- [Bray] All right, bye.

Hey?

(static buzzing)

- [Woman] Can I bring my boyfriend?

He was a Green Beret who really likes it.

- [Bray] Boyfriend was a Green Beret?

Ah, we're good. Sorry.

Hey, hey, hey.

- Hey.

- I see you checking out my flyer for the Ruck March.

- Yeah.

- [Bray] You guys interested in coming out?

- Sounds like a great experience.

Maybe we should go together.

- I think I'm out, but you can use my backpack.

- It has extra pockets.

(Bray laughs)

- [Bray] Are you sure? Man, it's a great time.

It's gonna test you mentally and physically.

- No, I think that's for her.

- I think I can handle it. - Okay, you're in.

- You're not gonna kill me out there, are you?

(ominous music)
