It's 8 a .m. on an unseasonably warm
Halloween at Morse's Pond, a quiet oasis

the middle of the city.

It's a beautiful place, this walking
trail, the swimming area.

People would go to walk their dogs,
meditate.

Just a quaint little area in town that
most people would never associate with

anything bad happening.

But today, it has.

Oh, my God.

Hey, you got a cell phone? No, man,
sorry.

At 8 .56 a .m., the Wellesley Police
Department receives a desperate call

local resident Dirk Greiner.

I think

the residents were very concerned and
scared.

Wellesley hadn't had a homicide in over
30 years.

By most accounts, Dirk and May Grinader
are living a charmed life, the

embodiment of blue blood pedigrees,
private education, hard work, and

Dirk Grinader grew up in Germany.

At the end of World War II, his family
left Germany. He went to Yale

and then he went to Case Western Reserve
in Ohio, where he earned a double

doctorate. In addition to being an M
.D., he also earned his Ph .D.

That's where he met May. May was a
nursing student there.

May completes her master's degree and
becomes an assistant professor.

Soon after marrying Dirk, she puts her
career on hold to start a family.

She was a very, very proper person. She
was proud of her husband. She tried to

do things the best that she possibly
could.

Dirk and May were each other's best
friends. They were their soulmates.

They were very type A personalities, and
they were very, very high achievers.

When Dirk lands a prestigious position
at the Robert B. Brigham Hospital in

Boston, the family settles down in
Wellesley, 13 miles east.

Wellesley's a very affluent community. A
lot of the captains of industry, well

-to -do people live there. It's a very
highly educated town, probably one of

nicest zip codes in Massachusetts.

In this sheltered enclave, Dirk and May
raise three children, Kirsten, Britt,

and Colin.

Even though they're all grown, the
family still comes together often,

when mom's cooking one of her German
specialties. All right, daddy's

Looks good, honey.

Thank you. Very nice. The kids were
phenomenal students, phenomenal

very tight -knit family.

The eldest daughter and the youngest son
were MDs. They all had gone to very

well -respected universities.

They were well -educated, fairly
accomplished in their lives.

How's the internship going?

It's going great, Dad. The overnight
shift is a little tough, but I'm getting

used to it. Very good.

When you look at the three children,
those were the kind of kids that you

your kids would be like.

Certainly, all three children went to
Yale like their father did.

Dirk is known worldwide for his research
on childhood asthma.

Dirk Reiner was a brilliant doctor.

People would travel from all over the
country to come see him. He was a very

busy doctor. He was seeing patients.

He was doing a lot of medical seminars.
He was traveling all around the country.

Where are you going next, Dad?

I'm going to Chicago.

Chicago?

I'm actually the featured speaker on air
pollution and the effects it has on

pediatrics. Even with his busy schedule,
friends say Dirk and May have

maintained an extraordinarily close
marriage.

So they seem very much tied at the hip,
very much in love, best friends, a match

made in heaven.

They wouldn't make a decision without
the other one's consultation, and they

everything together as a family.

Life appears boundless for the couple of
31 years, and in October 1999, they

learn they have something special to
look forward to.

I'm engaged.

It appeared to be the perfect family in
a perfect neighborhood, in the perfect

town in Massachusetts.

Keeping up appearances is clearly
important to this family.

And it's not always easy. Well, I'm
sorry Joe can't be here. I know, I know.

While her husband keeps his usual
grueling hours at the hospital, May goes

to school to become a nurse practitioner
and gets a makeover.

May was at a point in her life where she
didn't have to worry about her children

so much anymore. She had bought some
Victoria's Secret underwear, tried to

a little weight off.

She had a facelift. Her sister helped
pay for the facelift. She had some

surgery done, too.

May?

Uh -huh?

Hi. Did you pick up the jar cleaner?

Oh, shoot. I forgot.

Could you do it?

Um, yeah. Okay.

She was traveling on her own, which she
hadn't really done before.

And she was kind of branching out a
little bit.

Could something or someone be motivating
this change?

On the morning of Halloween, Dirk and
May head to Morse's Pond for their

Sunday stroll.

It's a spot they've enjoyed for decades.

It was a perfect day to go for a walk.
They took one of their German shepherds,

Zephyr. Come on, girl.

You are ready.

And they started on their walk, which
was quite expensive. It would take them

through wooded areas, and then the plan
was to take the dog down to the pond

itself, and the dog would go for a swim
to get its exercise.

Hold on a second. I need to twist my
back again.

You okay?

Yeah, I'll just, um, I've just laid down
for a bit. They usually don't stretch.

You want to go back?

No, you go on ahead. I'll be fine.

Okay. May had a very bad back, and she
said, why don't I just stay here and

rest?

Hello?

Is anybody there?

The dog started acting a little strange,
like it was unsettled and it wanted to

kind of head back to where they came.

What's wrong?

What's the matter?

So Dirk headed back towards where he had
left May.

Dirk is only gone for about 10 minutes,
but when he returns, May is nowhere to

be found.

Zephy, come on, girl.

Zephy. Oh, my God. Are you okay?

What? They?

Oh, my God.

They?

Oh, my God.

Oh, no. May.

Dirk Greiniger returns to find his wife
unconscious and bleeding profusely.

That was clearly a brutal, brutal,
vicious attack on this poor woman.

May's head was almost cut off. So it was
a lot of violence that obviously had

happened in that moment of time.

Oh, baby.

Though Dirk has decades of medical
experience, Her injuries are

She needs to get to a hospital
immediately.

At 8 .56 a .m., the Wellesley Police
Department receives the desperate call.

He

was

frantic, and there was a lot of anxiety
in his voice.

He's really kind of hysterical, and she
can't make out what he's saying, so

she's trying to calm him down.

Any husband would be panicked, you'd be
afraid, you'd be scared, you wouldn't

know if somebody else was around, you'd
be afraid for your own safety, and you'd

immediately want to get help.

When paramedics arrive, there's nothing
they can do.

May's already lost too much blood.

Police move in immediately and set up
barriers to the park.

They search the woods for any trace of
the killer.

The area down there at Morse's Pond is
almost 200 acres, so we'd set a

all the way around the entire place.

Wellesley hadn't had a homicide in over
30 years, so they're not really used to

investigating homicides.

So we're called in immediately to assist
them. Who do we got here?

Female body.

Husband found her in the woods.

Her pants had been cut and pulled down a
little bit, exposing her underwear and

her bra.

It appeared that she could have been
sexually assaulted.

We've ordered a rape kit.

Good.

Looks like she was attacked here and
then pulled off the trail to there.

Probably about a good half of Mae's neck
was opened up. It was more than a stab

wound. It was a splash.

The neck wound was very, very bad.

From here to here and two inches wide.
It was a gaping neck wound.

I'm going to go talk to the husband.

Okay.

Very sorry for your loss, doctor.

Is there anything you can tell me you

May's back started to hurt.

Okay. She didn't feel well.

So she didn't want to go back to the
car, so she decided she wanted to sit

on a bench.

All right.

About ten minutes into it.

My dog was, Zephy, kept pulling me back
toward where May was.

Took off.

He was pretty calm, and he seemed pretty
focused on the questions I was asking.

His nose was running like a child.

I thought that was a little strange, but
he had just lost his wife.

Did you see anybody you think, you know,
could have done this?

I saw, I thought I saw a guy running.
All right.

He was dressed in black.

Dressed in black, all right.

And then I saw a hiker. All right. And I
grabbed him and I asked him for a cell

phone.

He didn't have one. So I took off
running down to the car with Zephy. All

And I grabbed the phone and I called
911.

Officers speak with the hiker, who
confirms Dirk's story.

He also gives them their first lead.

He saw a truck parked next to the
grinders van around 8 .30.

It was now gone.

What color was this truck?

Brad, are you burning me?

I need all points bulletin looking for a
dark pickup truck.

Other side.

And your jacket.

He's being very, very cooperative and
asked if he could call a lawyer, which

did. Dirk also calls his daughter Britt.

It's not really that.

Honey, I am so sorry.

She hurt her back.

No, Mama's hurt her back before she just
lays down, Dad.

What happened?

What happened?

Okay. All right.

Okay.

About six hours had gone by.

Dirk had first called the police.

They had called a canine in to see if
they could get a scent from around where

May was to track a possible killer, and
the German Shepherd hit on a scent.

Good boy.

What do you got there?

What do you got?

The dog hits on something, and the dog
keeps going back to it.

Yeah, detectives, can you come down
here? Looks like he found something.

Hold this for me.

Shut it down there.

Oh, boy.

They moved the leaves aside, and down
the bottom of the drain, they saw some

items.

We lifted out three articles, one with a
two -pound drilling hammer, a four

-inch folding knife, and one brown work
glove.

The hammer and the knife appeared to be
bloody.

Well, my friend, looks like we got our
murder weapons.

The items are sent to the lab for DNA
testing.

DNA is not that quick. It's not like
you'd see on a television show. It

sometimes takes six, eight, or ten
weeks.

That night, as kids head out for trick
-or -treating, word of May's vicious

murder casts an eerie pall over the
neighborhood.

It was talked about by everybody in
town. Had someone come to town and

me, there was a lot of concern about,
you know, safety and things like that.

Did you hear about what happened at
Martha's Farm this morning?

I heard sirens, but was it an accident
or something?

No, it definitely wasn't an accident.

This is a neighborhood with lots of
children, and Halloween was a big day.

were somewhat skeptical about letting
their kids out.

Listen, I'm sorry, but we've got to go,
okay?

Let's go.

I think the residents were very
concerned and scared. A well -respected

of their community had been horribly and
savagely murdered in a public park.

Things like that do not happen in
Wellesley. So it was front -page news in

town.

Two days later, results of May's autopsy
provide some answers, but also spark

more questions.

The results showed that clearly she'd
been struck on the back of her head at

least twice by the two -pound drilling
hammer that we recovered.

She had eight or nine superficial stab
wounds, but the neck wound was clearly

the fatal wound.

It appeared that it may have been at
least an attempt at sexual assault, but

tests came back negative. There was no
sexual assault.

You all know.

Three days after her death, nearly 900
friends, family, and neighbors gathered

to say goodbye to May.

There was a large outpouring for May.
Her friend gave the eulogy and talked

about how there wasn't a child or a dog
that May didn't like.

May was at a wonderful place in her
life, happily married, incredibly proud

her children, and anxiously awaiting the
marriage of her daughter.

It was pretty emotional.

It was pretty sad. It was tough.

Meanwhile, Wellesley police are working
around the clock to find her killer. We

didn't really have a suspect.

It was a very, very difficult time here.

You should talk to everybody that you
can think of. You do a canvas of a

neighborhood. You knock on all those
doors and get any type of information

possibly can.

What's the latest?

Anything on the truck, the witnesses,
the off -pack, the jerks, fans?

Nothing. Absolutely no security or
traffic cam footage.

And what about the neighbors?

Did they see anything?

Again, nothing.

Though I did find this one guy that was
on the other side of the pond who said

that he thought he may have heard a
scream around 8 .30.

I need you to follow up on that right
away. Can you get on that now? I'll be

it right away.

We're following up on every lead that we
can. There's just a huge amount of work

that's being done behind the scenes.

Investigators examine another
frightening possibility.

Could May's murder be linked to a spate
of recent killings?

We had two other unsolved crimes that
could be possibly a serial killer.

In December 1998, Irene Kennedy was
walking in Bird Park in Walpole.

She was brutally attacked and killed
just off a wooded path.

August 1999,

Dick Ranger.

Both homicides were in nearby towns,
beginning with the letter W, like

Wellesley. The media outlets were
referring to them as the W homicides.

So now we're thinking these could be
connected. We could have a killer that's

preying on elderly people.

A week has passed since 58 -year -old
Mae Griniter was stabbed to death in

daylight while on a walk with her
husband, Dirk.

With a potential serial killer stalking
the area, investigators are hoping the

hammer, knife, and gloves pulled from
the storm drain will lead them to the

murderer. We had to identify where these
items were distributed.

The two -pound drilling hammer was very
rare.

After canvassing dozens of hardware
stores, police hit the jackpot.

Deals Hardware in Wellesley was one of
the only places that actually sold that

hammer.

Hello, my friend. Hi, how you doing? Can
you show me where your hammers are?

Yeah, sure.

Right this way.

There you go.

Is that the last one?

Yeah, that's the last one we got.

I'm going to need to see all the sales
receipts you have for this hammer over

the last year.

DL Toddware wasn't computerized at the
time. So what they gave us is a pallet

full of receipts.

And it wasn't a popular item. I can tell
you in 1999, there was four of them

sold. They didn't have any credit card
receipts for anybody that had purchased

that hammer. So the hammer had to have
been sold as a cash purchase.

It's a dead end. So investigators
reexamine the other two unsolved

the area.

You got stab wounds right there.

Irene Kennedy was killed in December
1998.

And then in August of 1999, Dick Ranger
was killed in a very similar setting

that May was.

His throat was slashed with some sort of
hatchet.

Some people thought that there might be
a serial killer on the loose, so I think

there was a lot of fear in the
community.

Could May be the third victim of the so
-called W killer?

I looked at the wound, and there were
stark differences between Irene Kennedy,

Dick Ranger, and May Griner.

It seems to me all three victims were
killed by different people.

I agree.

Not our guy.

With the W killer off the list,
investigators circle back to those

May and speak with her niece Belinda
Markle. Belinda and her children were

close to May. They spoke sometimes
almost daily on the phone. It was almost

a mother -daughter relationship.

Did May have any sort of romantic
relationship with somebody outside the

marriage? Absolutely not.

Aunt May was so in love with Uncle Dirk
and would never do anything to break up

their marriage.

What about Dirk? Any issues?

We looked into Dirk's criminal history.
There was nothing there. He didn't even

have a parking ticket.

The Wellesley police had never been
called to the couple's home. There was

any indication of any domestic violence.
Everything appeared as people said it

was.

But according to Belinda, there was one
issue plaguing the relationship.

I would say that their marriage had been
strained the past few years.

Go on.

Well, I visited her in June.

She seemed really upset that Dirk was
spending a lot of time away from home

work.

He seemed really lonely.

Belinda had some conversations with May
where May kind of indicated that things

weren't that great.

They had drifted apart a little bit.
Bye. Enjoy your food. And now that the

children weren't there.

She was trying to rekindle something,
and maybe Dirk was a little resistant to

that. There were issues around their sex
life, so there was tension there. There

certainly was sexual tension.

May?

They were kind of falling away from each
other. He was working late hours,

traveling a lot, and that caused them to
separate a little bit and move apart.

Something else struck Belinda as
suspicious.

Despite Dirk's lucrative practice, the
pair appeared to be bleeding cash.

Uncle Dirk.

was really concerned with how much money
Aunt May was spending to come visit us.

We even had to foot the bill a few
times.

I mean, he's a doctor, I think.

Pay for a couple of trips to New York.

It does seem odd for a world -renowned
physician.

So investigators dig deeper.

They got the grind of the financials.

One night in June at a hotel five
minutes from here?

Why would he be staying at a hotel in
Dedham when he lived so close?

Was there a conference there?

Maybe he had to be there really early
and that was easier.

Maybe.

A quick check confirms there were no
conferences at the hotel.

It appears Dr. Greiner's one night stay
was not business related.

As we start to really dig into...

Dirk's background, his life starts to
come to light to us that, you know, he's

surfing internet porn sites. He was
talking to sex lines and putting those

charges on his credit cards.

It's not a smoking gun, but certainly
something cops can't ignore.

We just didn't know what was going on in
his life, and we didn't know what May

knew.

With a search warrant in hand,
investigators examine the grinders'

Yeah, well, he was German.

Do all Germans have framed pictures of
Nazis, too?

No.

So they searched the entire house, the
outside and inside.

They got into the garage, and on one
wall, there was boxes stacked together.

All right, I'll start here. You take the
rest.

Don't make it too easy on us, Dirk.

We had to look in each and every box.

And we came across this box with a
bottle of Viagra that was issued from

Dirk Grindeter.

to dirt grinder.

So they find a couple of other weird
things in there.

This obviously raised a lot of eyebrows.

Why would he have condoms and Viagra
hidden in the garage?

It's to hide it from his wife.

The hell else is he hiding?

Now, I've already talked to Dirk, and he
said he was no longer in a sexual

relationship with his wife. What is the
Viagra for?

What are these other things going on?
More digging had to be done.

Dirk was clearly having sex with
someone, but who?

We found this whole other life that Dirk
was leading.

You would never expect a doctor of his
standing to be involved in any of the

things that he was involved in.

Two weeks after 58 -year -old May
Greiner's throat was slashed in the

Morse's pond, investigators are starting
to uncover evidence of her husband's

dark double life.

We found that he was going on these
hardcore pornography sites, these

interactive sites where you'd actually
have live people talking back and forth

via the computer.

Detectives are also shocked to find a
hardcore sex story penned by the doctor

himself. It was very graphic. I wouldn't
even try to describe it. It was very

lurid, very descriptive. It was kind of
disturbing, actually.

And it was one nasty idea after another,
and it went on for pages and

pages and pages.

Dirk did more than talk and write about
sex.

Are you the doctor? The doctor had a
penchant for prostitutes.

In the weeks leading up to May's death,
Dirk's bad behavior appeared to be

escalating. Yeah. Really?

We were able to track him using his cell
phone and his credit cards to order a

couple of prostitutes to come up to his
room.

He's scheduled to speak the next
morning, so when is he sleeping?

His activity is just really picking up.

snowballing out of control.

You were fabulous.

After they leave, he buys a porn movie
on his hotel TV.

He had basically been overcome by his
appetite for the sex, and I think he was

just out of control.

When investigators speak with the owner
of the escort service, they discover

Dirk was obsessed with one prostitute in
particular named Elizabeth Janes.

All of a sudden, the suspect pool in his
wife's murder just got a whole lot

deeper. You look at every shred of
evidence that you can. Did somebody else

a motive? Could it have been somebody
that he was sleeping with? Or were these

just hookers that he was paying for sex?

Locating Elizabeth proves difficult.

But they are able to find a
Massachusetts couple grinded or

threesome.

Honey, come to bed.

You can finish your work in the morning.

During the email exchange that we
recovered from his computer, he talks

the fact that he's basically straight,
but in group encounters, he could be

flexible.

He willingly said that he was married,
but she didn't play.

It was pretty hardcore. Not something
you'd expect from a doctor.

He ultimately ends up taking a nude
photograph of himself.

and then he emailed that to the couple.
He seemed to be spinning out of control.

The couple Dirk solicited have an alibi
for the morning May was killed and are

cleared by investigators.

Finally, after several false starts and
three months of searching,

police locate the prostitute named
Elizabeth.

You know this man?

Yeah. I met him a few times.

It's a little weird.

Luther told us that he would pay up to
$500 for a visit, and he really was kind

of a strange guy.

She talked about these lavish gifts and
things that he had bought her.

She went to meet him in a hotel room
someplace, and he had purchased

and roses and candy.

It seemed almost like he was looking for
more than just a sexual encounter and

was becoming very infatuated with her.

She got a feeling that this wasn't
right, and she stopped responding to his

phone calls.

Did you know he was married?

Oh, yeah.

No, he always wore a ring, but he told
me he was getting divorced because his

wife was getting old and soft.

It's a telling statement.

Whether or not May knew, it appears Dirk
already had one foot out the door.

Dr. Greiner really seemed like he had
this split personality.

There was the father, the good doctor,
and then the other side was kind of

pleased.

He was engaging in some seriously risky
behavior, and I don't know if it was for

the self -gratification. I don't know if
he was getting off on the danger of

potentially getting caught, but he was a
man that was a huge contradiction.

While police continue to follow up on
all of Dirk's sordid dalliances, a

handyman for the grinders comes forward
with a disturbing tidbit.

Watch this all fixed. I'm going to go to
the truck and grab the bill. Okay,

great. Thank you. No problem.

Several days before May's death, he
overheard a heated conversation.

She was going for her master's degree,
and she'd been doing a lot of work on

Dirk's computer, and we believe that she
had decided to find some of this

pornographic activity.

He was very upset that his wife had seen
some things on the computer that he

didn't want her to see.

Hey, what are you doing?

Why are you going to touch my computer?

I'm sorry. I just needed to make a quick
update for class tomorrow.

Yeah? What'd you find? Nothing.

Calm down.

Stay off my computer.

I got a late shift tonight.

See you tomorrow.

It would devastate him and his career if
this was ever revealed.

Dirk's reputation meant everything to
him, so he had good reason to try to

this stuff quiet.

If she found the naked pictures of her
husband, police theorize, May might have

threatened to end their marriage. Could
this have set Dirk into a deadly

tailspin?

Authorities reexamine the crime scene
photos, especially pictures of Dirk in

bloodstained clothes.

He was covered in May's blood everywhere
except his hands. His hands had no

blood on them at all.

I can't imagine how no blood would be on
his hands if he wasn't wearing gloves.

They really started the key on Dirk.
That doesn't mean they would close their

eyes to anything else that came up.

After four months, the results of the
DNA found on the murder weapons and

finally come in. You've got to see this.

Well, I'll be damned.

The suspect is starting to come into
focus.

This was a very damning piece of
evidence.

For months, investigators have been
trying to piece together the events that

to the vicious murder of 58 -year -old
Mae Griniter.

DNA results from the killer's gloves and
weapons finally come back and confirm

the detective's growing suspicions.

The DNA results revealed that...

There was Dirk's DNA on the right -hand
glove, and the possibility of it being

anybody else was one in 170 million
people. And then also on the folding

knife, Dirk's DNA was found on that as
well.

Even more damning are the results from a
blood spatter analysis of Dirk's

clothes. The blood spatter that was on
his jacket and shoes indicated that he

was within inches of feet.

of May and what they describe as the
bloodshed incident.

They had blood spatter all the way down
the back of his jacket from what they

call cast -off, where he had struck her
on the head with the hammer and then

brought the hammer back and then brought
it down again a second time.

Hey, guys. What can I do for you? Go to
Lawrence. Search the premise. Wait a

second. Hold on a second.

This time, detectives find even more
evidence stashed in Zephyr's doghouse.

That look familiar?

It sure is.

All right, let's be sure and check all
the times and dates for those receipts

with this one.

The evidence was really starting to come
together that Dirk Greiner could have

been the only person that had killed May
Greiner.

Four months after May's murder, Dr. Dirk
Greiner is indicted by a grand jury.

He's arrested a few hours later.

I didn't do it! You get the guy who did
it!

The Grinader kids are outraged and stand
by their father's innocence.

We're fighting for our lives, we're
fighting for our family, and we're not

to stop until we get him vindicated. We
are absolutely convinced that this was

some violent or deranged person.

There is only one fact that we are
completely certain of, that it was not

father. In May 2001, Dr. Dirk Grinader
stands trial.

The prosecution argues that in the weeks
leading up to May's murder, she

discovered Dirk's double life, a life he
had been leading for at least two

years. To preserve his reputation and
keep his insatiable sexual addiction

alive, he plotted to kill her on their
routine walk.

This was a person who was losing control
and feeling threatened that maybe if

this came out, this was going to damage
him. In his mind, the only way to regain

control of his situation was to kill
May.

It wasn't a killing that was out of
rage.

It's the premeditated murder.

Investigators believe Dirk attacked May
from behind.

Hello? Once they were deep in the woods.

Is anybody there?

May didn't die right away. She doesn't
even go unconscious.

Ultimately, he takes the fallen buck
knife out, he cuts her throat, and then

stabs her in the abdomen, and then stabs
her in the head.

There's a good chance that her last
moments in this world were looking at

husband stabbing her. And that's just an
awful, awful image to live with.

He pulled her into the brambles, pulled
her shirt up.

He pulled her pants down, he cut them.
He cut her underwear and left her there.

He thought he was going to stage it to
look like the other attacks that had

happened in Westwood and in Walpole.

Dirk then dumped the hammer, knife, and
gloves in storm drains before going to

his car to call police.

He tried to make it sound like he was
frantic.

He tried to make it sound like he didn't
even know what was going

on. He thought.

He was smarter than all of us. He
thought nobody would ever think that he

be a suspect in this.

Dirk's three adult children, adamant the
police arrested the wrong man, testify

on their dad's behalf.

The children supported their father
unconditionally, and they just could not

believe that their father would kill
their mother.

My father's innocent, and that's the
fact.

That was a hard, hard part of the trial
for all of us, to see them and what they

were going through.

They subsequently learned about all of
his extracurricular activities, and even

then, their position was, just because
you're committing adultery doesn't mean

you're a murderer.

Griniter takes the witness stand,
claiming he did everything he could to

his wife.

I really tried to pick her up. Her head
flopped back.

He did show emotion or tried to show
emotion.

I just didn't feel like it was
believable.

When you added up all the particular
evidence from timeline, from DNA, from

testimonies, it was overwhelming.

Every single piece of evidence pointed
towards Dirk Reinhardt.

There's just no way it could be anyone
else but Dirk.

After six weeks of testimony and more
than four days of deliberation, the jury

comes to a unanimous decision.

When the verdict was read, I think there
was a lot of shock.

Such a sigh of relief.

I didn't know what I would have done if
it said not guilty.

Clearly, the folks who were in May's
corner and really believed Dirk did it

ecstatic, but his family, he and his
family were shocked.

I was happy for May, for her sister and
niece, because of what they went

through. I felt very bad for the
children.

Children especially had really sort of
trained themselves to think good

thoughts. He's going to get off. He's
going to get off.

We're going to have our dad back.
Everything will go back to normal. And

never did.

You could hear them sobbing. It was very
emotional.

Dirk Greiner is serving a life sentence
at the state prison in Norfolk,

Massachusetts.

He and his children maintain his
innocence to this day.

It's a tragedy what that man did. He
tore apart that family.

May was a vibrant, wonderful person who
lost her life through no fault of her

own. And I just hope that when people
look at this case, they'll remember her

and they'll honor her memory.
