we really started noticing
a decline in kids' grades.

We know that
all outdoor research says

that once kids are outdoors
for a little bit,

when they come back in,
they're more focused.

So we opted to offer
an outdoor earth science class
for all of our freshmen.

The thought is that
it's a more engaging program.

It's hands on,
and we're seeing
some steady increases

in grade point averages.

We're seeing
better engagement.

So Isaac,
from a student's perspective,

anything else you think
you can add to this?

Uh, I really think
it's a good idea 'cause

it's really good for,
uh, hands on learners.

Not sitting inside a classroom
reading papers all day.

So what are you looking for?

I think
we're looking for about 24x24

with about four feet
in the back being for storage.

And we're thinking
right over here.

It's kind of an area that's
between the football field

and the baseball field

tucked back into the woods
a little ways.

Yep, they do
a lot of their work right,
back here in the woods.

So this would
really be a place for us
to continue to do

all of our outdoor hands
on science experiments,

um, without having to stop
and put it away,

or drag it
into the building.

Ashley couldn't be here today.
There wasn't enough

I wanted my Gardiner boy,
Jedi, with me,

know if there's any colors
we should stay away from

I think it may be a long table
so you can spread

We have plenty
of materials back at
our work yard in Monmouth.

We have a cabin there.

these all in one systems

that really made it
super simple and easy.

Basically, put up on the wall,
put the house on one side

and the solar panels
on the other side

and hopefully away they go.

are putting up
a rainwater collection system.

we had to fur our gutters out
beyond our roof line,

do we were able to
catch the water.

It's going to transfer
from this end,

pitch all the way down
to this end,

and we're going to
pipe it down

so it can drop into
the rain barrels.

That comes down.

We went with
an eastern white pine siding,

metal roof,
nice big barn doors

and we even have
a few extra special
surprises inside.

And, um,
there appears
to be, like,

some amazing little something
on the roof there.

That was
one of the surprises.

and work off of that.

You guys are gonna have
a lot of fun in here.

a decade long event.

for grants to build

an outdoor classroom,
which allowed us to

look at teaching
students differently.

And so I had an opportunity

to convince people
that being outdoors

is really where
students learn best.

It's a great opportunity
for our students.

It's going to really help
further this amazing program,

and it's going to continue
to get our kids outside.
