A couple years ago,
I first met Ryan.

I really have gotten
to know him and it's been
a great relationship.

I told these guys
to get sporty

and they took it
to the new level.

Maybe I hired
the wrong people.

why I'm up here
in the first place,

is because of you guys.

And I got up here

and I fell in love
with a piece of property

and I'd never built
a house before.

I wanted something on the lake

and I figured this is
a family compound.

I have four kids
and a grandchild

and everybody's already
staking their claim
to bedrooms up here.

It'd be great
if we could do something,

a small, little bunk house.

And it's gonna go
right behind,

by the water, huh?

He saved the best spot
for us at least.

I just wanted something
that looks like
it's belonged here

for a long, long time.

have the bunk house fit in

a back porch

and use the stone

and just create
sort of a natural dock

or gathering area down there.

And, then, have a dock
that goes out on the lake

How often do you see
this camp being used

in the winter time?

I would treat everything

-as it's gonna
be used year-round.

a bunk house

that fits the area,

fits in with the new builds
on the barn
and the main house.

We are about two months
behind schedule on this.

we're laying out roughly

where the bunk house
is gonna go.

And to do that, we have
to take in a lot of factors.

working on the wall.

We got it to a point
where I can meet Cam
this morning

he's gonna finish that wall.

We're gonna be here tomorrow
with a full crew

and try and get the deck going
and get this thing busted out.

So, Corey's got
his block walls here.

I envision the camp
coming to the edge
of these blocks out here.

Today we would like
to get all the beams up
in the floor system.

So, carrying beams
running this way.

Cut the posts
down to the ground,

get our measurements.

I'm gonna get some tools
and start cutting these.

to a quarter inch thick.

Typically you want them

We're a little bit behind,

It was so wet, we couldn't get
the machinery in here

to do the groundwork
that was needed.

the hardest part of the build.

and they got it squared up

at the same level
as the floor,

so we'll order
2 by 10 pressure treated

When we first met with Dan,

I remember specifically
him saying he wanted, like,
a nice, little bunk house,

nestled into the woods.

When I showed up, I felt
like we're in a tree house

and it was pretty big.

the view from the barn.

with Ryan and I being down
at the low point,

Ashley standing up there,
it definitely was high up.

And I think we were going
into this with the mindset...

"try and get as much as we can
for the camp owner."

Get the highest peak
of a roof we can,

but that's not
what Dan is looking for.

Because we're gonna end up
building a smaller structure,

I think the amount of labor
it's gonna take

to drop this down
isn't that much.

Timeframe, we're probably
adding one or two weeks

to get back to that position.

Cut it down,

we can cut off what we need to
from the deck itself.

We'll save it,
we can pull it apart
and use it somewhere else.

Slide it off,

lower these down,

and then just set it back
down on that.

It's not that big of a deal.

I think that Dan
will really like it like that.

down about three or four feet

and it does really look good.

beautiful Cathedral part.

so it really feels great.

a new hip roof on this porch.

A hip roof is pretty much
where all sides slope down

creating a ridge,
no gable ends,

similar to a pyramid.

We ran our headers across.

It's gonna be
a cool, cozy little spot
to sit in comfortably.

and we got all our patterns
for our roof rafters

high pitched roof.

So we need a steep but safe
accessible way to get there.

a library ladder with handles.

It's gonna be a two-foot
knee wall on each side.

Once the interior frame
is finished up,

we can get the place
spray foamed

so they'll be able to enjoy
the cabin year-round.

with water run off

a nice job with riprap

and try to channel the water.

We're gonna have
a riprap channeled.

a bridge built from
really beautiful rock

across that
and into the cabin.

The draining and what not,

all about wrapping up
the exterior.

We installed
green metal roofing
and green windows

to match the other cabin.

We finished up
the last piece of siding,

threw on a porch railing

and started working
on the interior.

So it is the last week
at the Dan Patrick camp.

-We got a football team today.

We've got to get
the gable end wall done

with the boards from the log
that came out of the lake.

The knee wall on the loft
gets the boards as well.

We've got to get the kitchen
counters installed.

Couple of people
will be sanding the boards.

I'll go help sand.

We should be able
to get a lot done today.

These are the boards
that we took out of the lake.

Now we're just trying
to hit them really quickly

'cause we wanna
retain that character

but we also want it to pop.

So I'm just, you know,
hitting it really quickly

and then at the end,
knocking off these
little hairs.

To really need to see
those boards come back,

I was like,
it's like I was telling it,
"Oh, welcome home."

I've never seen
a tree's journey like that.

So, it's kinda cool.

I kinda felt like
one with them.

I kinda felt bad sanding them.

We are using this
rough cut lumber

as kind of like an accent

on the knee wall for the loft

and on the gable end wall
facing the lake.

We're just gluing and nailing.

Lovely.

We're 96 hours out

and we need at least
72 of those I think

to get everything done.
So Ashley's team is gonna
be down to the final minute.

I'm just gonna be
so glad it's over.

Three days ago this was
just mud and everything.

to the camp and there's
the camp.

It's got green metal roof to match all the other roofs.

There's a little bit
of the vertical pine siding

to match the garage,
little bit of cedar shakes

to match the big house.

had it milled up

and put this nice
grey wash on it.

When I saw the difference,

the shading
of the wood in there,

it looked beautiful.

I didn't expect
something like that.

The place is fully insulated.

Spray foam insulation.
Floors, walls, ceilings.

Got eastern white pine
on the walls and ceilings,

small kitchenette area.

Chase, there's
trouble back here.

have a family stay in there

so it was great.
