reached out to me,
told me about Rick Carter.

are great members

Rick has given back
to boy scouts

like youth groups
use his property,

people kept telling me
how great they are

and we already got out
to the property to help.

From what I'm told,

these are your old
classic-style camps.

You know,
just little tiny things.

that the squirrels

they've got home in there.

that they are lead paint.

was recently repainted.

So it shouldn't be a problem.

Update the cabins,
attach that building,

insulate,
make them critter-proof,

jacking level.

to put into the cabins?

touch up the paint,

a new set of railings

for the deck
to make it safer.

And on the gray camp,
we'll jack and level it,

attach that small
out building

so that Rick can put in
a bathroom, new windows,

and give it
a fresh coat of paint.

I think our biggest concern
right now

is making sure
that water level drops

and we can get in here

and everything
is nice and dry.

the guys been moving
right along.

Over at the gray camp,
the guys are working

on getting
jacked and leveled.

This one when we came in,

got our last few posts,

we got the sill around
our deck replaced.

I like it, Josh.

That's one end, baby.

And they're working
on removing

the old rotted sills

along the camp

and replacing those.

Then they'll tear off
the old rotted shingles

and get those replaced
with new cedar shakes.

We're trying to get
these old posts out of here.

The old posts are
just telephone poles

that had set down
in the ground.

So, they're just
continuing to sink

they've got no base
underneath them.

So we're, uh,
just having to work

to get these up
out of the ground.

Throw that off.

So, we can get it filled in
with some good stones,

get our epoxy, get our foam,

and get new post underneath.

Take it to the bank.

Now that we got this old
floor system all torn out,

got some new timbers
that we're gonna use here

for our new sills.

Our new ledger right here
is gonna help

catch these posts.

I'm gonna slide that
beyond your direction.

to fasten this addition

to the main building
which you can see here,

it's been coming apart
for quite a while.

Week five at the Carter Camp

in West Gardiner.

Looks like your handle
is pretty sweet.

Been extremely wet summer.

And the road just hasn't had
the chance to dry out

and driving over it every day

constantly just has made it
a lot more soupy and muddy.

You know,
a lot of cars don't make it in

but we've got RTVs here
side by side.

And but we've got
Francis Ryan here

with their machines...

to hopefully,
get a good base...

and get us so the road
is passable.

That's awesome.

You got me all muddy.

- How's it moving?
- Oh, nice.

You want me to push it?

And today,
we are working on getting

the outbuilding attached

to the main camp
for the bathroom.

Oh, jeepers.

So, when we first arrived...

There was the addition,
whatever you wanna call it

that Rick caught
and had brought down here

at some point.

And his goal had always been
to attach it

to the gray camp

and turn that into a bathroom

with a compost and toilet.

Keep going.

It's solid so we just decided

to get it on some skids

and, you know,
use fulcrums and levers

and just move it over
with brute strength.

Sweet.

Once we got
the bathroom addition

close to where
it was gonna go,

we stripped
the shingles off...

and made it
so that the new addition

will sit flat
against the camp.

So, in order to make
this building watertight,

you have to be able
to step flash

the roof properly
so it won't leak.

And then you have to be able
to side up to the addition.

So, it's just as easy
to strip it back.

Get it right back
to wall sheeting,

and then we can attach
the little building

to the big door.

Yeah. And you can't put
this building up

against a building
already sided.

There is just no way
to keep it watertight.

we're gonna get anything

and try to, uh,
get a couple of these on

the deck secured

a little bit of prep work.

Majority of our windows
came in.

So, we're starting to get
these, uh, windows installed.

My electricians
were here yesterday.

Everything's roughed in.

Over at the gray camp,
the guys are working

on putting together
the steps up

to the second story

along with building
a ladder for the loft.

And then working on paint.

We're going
with a nice light gray

for the deck railings
and trim.

And then a darker gray
for the rest of the camp.

The camp owners
wanted to keep it close

to the same color.

So all we are doing
is freshening it up

with a nice new coat.

And now, we can get ready
for the spray foam.

And climb this up
and close this place in.

Today, Fiona and I
are at the Cotta's barn.

They have mentioned
that they have

a bunch of stuff in the barn

that we could take and use.

I discovered things.

So, we can save money

by taking some
of the homeowner's stuff.

of the Cotta camp

and it's been a struggle.

We are into the midst
of our rainiest summer ever.

As you can see,
the streams come back up,

but the guy's doing
a heck of a job.

The old outbuilding
is attached.

Dixie's putting in
the last of the windows.

I love the paint.

I haven't been out here
in a while to see it.

The guys did
a great job painting.

Inside, Chase is looking
on the kitchen.

Josh and Tim are putting out
more sheathing boards,

trimming out the windows,

and then the front porch
is all leveled and straight.

And as you come over
to the second camp,
it's amazing.

The water's been coming up
almost like tidal.

You know, like an ocean.
Comes in, comes out.

And over here, the... I mean,
this cable rail looks amazing.

That's the cable railing
we've had left over

since six years ago.

It's amazing
what you find in the back

of your storage units.

And here,
the paint was pretty good

so we were able to keep that.

But all new windows around,

it's been spray foamed,

new lights, new electrical,
new sheathing,

and it looks like
a million dollars.

And the Cotta family's
gonna be able

to use this year-round.

It's gonna heat so easily.

It's gonna be amazing.

see how far along we are.

They're not quite ready
for me to get in there.

Um, so Fiona and I
just decided to take

the side by side and get out.

a really good job.

He's cutting,
he's paying more attention,

and he's becoming

needed something.

We had a can
of green floor paint,

grabbed that, gave those
a try, and I paint,

coated the floors
on the screen and porch,

you know, again,
just to clean everything up.

at the wood shop

to take the barrel
that I found

at the Cotta's barn
and turn it into a table.

So what the plan for today is,

we're gonna disassemble
this table,

and then we're gonna
figure out

how we're gonna attach it
to that barrel

so that we can put
some bar stools around it.

Fiona and I stopped
by the Cotta's barn

and when we were grabbing
some of the furniture

that we wanted to use
in the cabin,

I didn't see any tables
in there.

We definitely need a table.

So, I thought it
would be a good idea.

Let's see if we can make one.

I'm so happy
for this wood shop.

Me too.

- There are all the tools we need in one spot.
- -Oh, yeah.

And the first step
was to just disassemble it.

-Okay. There you go.

You're on it.

So the Viel brothers
have been working with us,

um, for a few years now.

So, that's actually
kind of perfect.

Oh, yeah.

I knew that they were gonna be
at the wood shop today

because it's raining out.

Yeah. We'll go
a little wide with it.

So I gave 'em a ring
and said,

"Hey, you wanna help me out?"

And they are so kind
and they said, "Absolutely."

It's not a perfect circle.

That's okay.

We'll work with it.

The next thing we needed to do

was to trace around

where we were gonna need
to route her out.

And then we wanted
to sand it down to,

you know, get all
the blemishes off of it.

Well, Josh routed out
the circle,

so that it'll be able to fit

right on top
of the barrel nicely.

- Oh, wow.
- Yeah.

That actually seems
like it's a nice fit.

After that,
we assembled the parts

to the table together.

I like it.

It feels flush.

That's all that matters.

All set.

And then it fit great.

Sweet.

So the only thing left to do
was to stain the top.

I think it was pretty.

So we had this perfect color

that matches the barrel great.

I can't believe

we tested for lead
and everything was clear,

so we're good
on that side of things.

Guys got
this place cleaned out,

got right underneath,
jacked and leveled.

with the roofs

and the red camp.

Electrician came in,

We put an addition on

from the red camp.
