Today, we're at
Monmouth, Maine,

at our newest acquisition.

It's a lumberyard
that went out of business

and we were lucky enough
to be able to purchase it.

It used to be Knowles Lumber.

Right down the road
from our headquarters.

Yeah.

I've been coming to this
lumberyard for years

and had a good relationship
with the owners.

They let me know that they
were going out of business.

I came over to look at stuff,

see if we were interested
in buying any of the materials

and walked away

ending up buying
the entire premises.

Nine buildings, 10 acres

and all the material
that was left.

There they are.
There's our homeowners.

Oh, look at that.

Wow, nice ride.

here on the crew.

Yup, we definitely do.

Now, you guys have
all been in here before

when it was
a working lumberyard.

-Absolutely. A couple times.

So we
outgrew headquarters

a lot faster than
we thought we would.

- Yeah, we did.

And we needed
the construction space
for a while.

And opportunity kind of
presented itself,

and next thing we know,

we're the proud owners
of 10 acres, nine buildings

and all the material included.

Sweet. Awesome.

So we're gonna shift a
lot of warehousing over here,

storage space for retail,

you know,
new construction base

so everything's in one spot.

But we are really
only focusing

on one empty building

that's ready for us
to get started

and converting that into
a professional woodshop.

So let's go check it out.

Sweet.

Yeah, a woodshop is going to
improve things tremendously.

We are constantly
battling the elements.

Oh, it's got
a lot of character.

- Yeah.

Jay can touch it up.

Yeah, doing everything
by hand of the job sites

in the rain
and getting the tools wet,

and just to have
a heated space

where we can work on days
that you normally don't work.

Yeah, it's gonna be
a great spot

to be able to build furniture,
doors, whatever we need,

kind of off-site.

It's gonna be
way more efficient.

Welcome to the woodshop.

Yeah, it is.

So this was
the original hardware store,

hence all the pegboard
on the walls and all that.

But, you know,
it's a solid space

for power tools,
woodworking equipment.

You know, we'll need rugged
workbenches along the sides,

some nice tables.

On the interior of
the woodshop,

we're gonna rip out
all the dropped ceilings

so we can
add all new electrical

and then pine it over.

We'll paint the space,
add a dust collection system

in order to keep the space
clean while we work.

And we'll add separate
work storage areas

for all the guys to use.

You know, and the roadside,
we need more curb appeal.

Replace that window.

Replace the garage door
with more glass.

Something more efficient.

On the exterior
of the woodshop,

we're gonna tear off
that awning on the front,

re-side it, repaint it,
new roof,

and bring in more light
with large picture windows

and glass doors.

So, the big question.

What's our timeline
and budget, bud?

How soon do you wanna
be using your new woodshop?

- As soon as possible.
- Tomorrow.

Yeah, so ideally we'd
get this place up and running

in about six weeks.

And we have about $30,000.

There was a lot of material,
a lot of roofing material,

on-site to do the roof.

And, same thing,
there's siding.

So we have all the materials
to do everything.

So the 30 grand is gonna go
all into the tools?

-We could easily blow
30 grand on just tools.
-Yeah.

But this is one part
of the project.

Part of this purchase is
we need more additional space

for our restaurant and bar
and retail space

at our headquarters
in Manchester.

So, Ryan, Ashley,
we've gotta go check out
the other space.

But, you guys, keep thinking
about tools we're gonna want
in here

'cause this is
the time to do it.

The way the
headquarters is divided up,

it's three connected buildings
in an old 1850s farmhouse.

The front main house is
where we store
all of our retail items.

The middle section is our main
retail space entrance.

And connected to that
on the other end

is our barn which we use
for retail overflow.

On the other side of the barn,

we have our
restaurant and bar.

And we're going to change
the barn from retail space

to more restaurant space.

Right now, every
nook and cranny has storage

for merchandise.

So we're gonna move
shipping and warehousing

out of our headquarters,

move the retail
to the front of the house

and have more seating area
for the restaurant.

- So the entrance will stay the same.
- -Yup.

This doorway here
will come out.

That will remain
an employees' bathroom.

But the employees'
kitchen here,

everything will be different.

What is gonna
be different?

So we wanted to keep the old
farmhouse kitchen feel to it,

but we'll get rid
of this electric stove,

you know,
disconnect the water,

get rid of the dishwasher,
get rid of the fridge,

you know, take the doors
off the cabinets.

-Something like that.
-So we can put stuff
in there to buy.

Yeah, I mean, nobody really
uses it anyways.

So, you know, it'll be like
kitchen stuff on display
in here.

This is kind of the flow
right through here.

This space needs to
be widened up

so that it flows naturally
into this space.

Once we get everything
out of here,

these windows will be exposed.

It'll let some light
into the space.

We'll do some cool creative
shelving display areas
in here.

I think we're gonna not
mess with the wallpaper.

Why are you so obsessed
with this house's wallpaper?

With old plaster and
lath houses,

wallpaper really holds
everything together.

Yeah. We don't have
to touch it.

Once all the renovations
in the kitchen

and this space are completed,

then we can move
everything in the barn

to this storage space.

We close off
in between the barn

and the retail.

We open up in between the barn
into the restaurant area.

And the barn
becomes seating area.

For the renovations at HQ,

we're giving ourselves about
three weeks for construction,

all while keeping in mind
that towards the end,

we're going to shut down
retail for a couple of days

so that we can rearrange
the spaces.

And we've got $15,000.

This renovation is more
about opening up the space

and creating better access
to and around it.

And the way that will work is,

when you walk
into the main entrance,

the current retail space
will be the only part

that will stay the same.

We'll widen the entryway
into the kitchen,

which will then become
additional retail space.

We'll move all of
our extra inventory

out of the storage room

and over to the lumberyard
in Monmouth.

And everything in the barn
will move into there.

And then finally
open up that wall

that separates the barn
and the restaurant area,

which will give us
more seating

and create better access
all around.

We wanna try
and leave the insulation,

but get the drop ceiling out

so we can strap everything
in order to run new wiring.

integrity of the building

is also expansion of the

just strapping the ceiling.

We're running this
inch and a half

so we can run our wiring.

We don't wanna disturb
this insulation any,

so we're gonna use
a 2x6.

And it's gonna make
great strapping.

Next step after that,

we're tearing out
the big doors.

Yeah, let's open those up
and put a window in there.

And framing out
for a new picture window

so we can get
some natural light in here.

We gotta get this old junk

The new windows
have been ordered.

Once those come in,

we'll get that closed in.

We got the electrician
marking things out,

getting a coat of paint
on everything.

We're just gonna spray it
all out and get it done.

Today,
we are at headquarters

and we're finally getting into
some of the renovations

that need to happen

in order to move the retail
to the front of the house.

Doug was able to show up

and move a lot of the
heating pipes out of the way.

And he also disconnected
the kitchen sink,

the dishwasher.

So we were able
to get those pulled out,

get the electric stove
out of the kitchen area,

get the refrigerator
out of the kitchen area.

We've got an old cookstove
that we're gonna--

you know, it doesn't work,

but we're gonna
put it here on display.

I've got an old ice chest
at my place

that we're gonna bring
and kind of set in here

and see how it all works,
how it all fits together.

That is almost perfect,
isn't it?

We need to paint
the kitchen cabinet interiors

all white
just to brighten it up,

clean it up.

I think now, you know, kind of
displaying stuff inside,

those cabinets
really will look better

and make sense

and be a great way to
kind of display

a lot of kitchen stuff
we have for sale.

Then we're gonna get started
on widening the entranceway

into the new retail space.

That way, people can flow
easily in between the spaces.

There we go.

And then this door
needs to come out.

It needs to be
an out-swinging door.

So this whole system just
kind of unlatches

and it comes right off.

We're gonna put
a new entry door here.

Look at that.

That buys us a little bit
more space here.

So that allows us
to open up this space

into the kitchen
a little bit wider as well.

So we've got
a big blizzard tonight.

We've got a gaping hole
in the side of the house.

But as long as
we keep the snow out

and keep the draft out,
you know,

I think we'll be all right
for a few days.

We are back at HQ
and it's a snowy day.

But Scotty and Jay
are working on

putting down the floor
in that stairway entry area.

Two and three eights.

And I'm working on putting
up the tin ceiling

behind where the cookstove
is gonna be.

Next step is
the slate sink shows up.

Okay, I think we're ready
to try to slide this in here.

And that really is the last
piece for the kitchen area.

opening up the doorways

between the kitchen area
into that front room.

Just to make flow for retail
much smoother.

Just more room to move around.

So, then, we can
move all our retail items
that are in the barn

into that front room.

And then we can
make changes to the barn

in order to have more seating
for our restaurant area.

Oh.

It's like a jigsaw puzzle.
We gotta make sure
all the right pieces are moved

so we don't make
a big mess of everything

and slow down business.

Yeah.

Yeah, week three here
at the woodshop.

The electrician
was in here yesterday.

He's got all the power
shut right off.

We have one
temporary outlet going on

that he hooked up for us.

But it's just not enough juice
for what we need.

So we've got
the generator goin'.

Pining sections of
the ceiling.

And we're pining up the walls.

And we're getting
the room prepped

for the dust collection system
and the heating system.

We thought spring was here.

We were gonna put
a big push on,

but spring's evading us
right now.

We've got another
big storm comin' in.

There's gonna be
40-50 mile an hour winds.

So we might wrap up
the day early.

Get people out of here
so they can get home safe.

We are back at our
headquarters renovation.

And today is moving day.

All right,
that's gonna work nicely.

You know, this whole idea
came about because

we got a new property
in Monmouth

that had plenty of storage.

And we desperately needed
storage for our retail...

and restaurant and bar.

We don't technically have
to take anything off of this

-because this is not moving.
-Right.

So we ended up moving
all of our warehousing

to Monmouth, which
freed up the front room.

Which allowed us
to shift retail forward.

I'm clearing
the shelves out

so a lot of the products
can be placed in the shelves.

We have a lot
of home decor items.

So a lot of these things
will look natural here

and it'll be a great way
to display 'em.

The stove looks great.

Kind of retrofitted
the kitchen

to make it look like
an old 1850s farmhouse.

We brought in
an old cookstove,

an old slate sink.

You know, none of them
are functioning.

But they look good
and they fit the space

and kind of have
that vibe we're going for.

Oh, these have
roasted pumpkin curry.

So, we wanna organize
stuff, right?

So you don't want 'em
just random.

You know, we try to do
all the red original,

all the warm apple pie,

all the wicked hot--

-Peanut butter.
-Kicking butt.

And then, you know, we'll put
all the jellies up there.

And then maybe we'll put
the honeys in one spot.

I know something most--

everyone else doesn't know.

This guy has a lot of
retail experience.

Back in the day, he worked
a retail floor forever.

So he's got an eye
for product placement.

They didn't like it
where we put the jelly though.

Nothing's messed up.

We just didn't like
the way they did it.

It's just gonna be great.

which is emptying out

part of our

to have the business closed

we've got a few pieces of
roofing that deliver today.

We wanted to get rid of those
clear plastic roofing panels

that they have
all over this place.

They have caused
the most leaks

out of any of
the roofing systems here.

You know, and if we're gonna
have a full workshop in there,

we've gotta make sure
the roof doesn't leak.

So we got some metal
to replace those.

Got the old plastic panels
pulled out

and the new panels in.

So this space

was the old barn that
we turned into more seating

for the restaurant.

We have the tables,
the chairs,

all that stuff in.

Today, Heidi and I are working
on decorating the place.

I have a bunch of
black and white pictures

of all these dogs.

Today is the grand reopening
of the Kennebec Cabin Company

and the expansion of
the restaurant.

The retail space is open.

We closed off the wall

in between this room
and the barn.

We have now
moved all the retail area

to the front of the house.

Uh, we took the old kitchen

and made it part of
the retail space.

Then we have expanded
this doorway

to make the flow easier.

And we moved all of
our T-shirts and stuff

into the front dining room.

So we are officially
open for business.

The expansion of
the restaurant is complete.

We have all the tables
in here

for overflow seating.

We were able to put up
all of the previous cabins,

and, of course,

the amazing dog corner.

Everything looks great.

And now it's time
to finish up the woodshop.

Here at the woodshop, we got
a lot of things goin' on.

We're gonna do a nice
board and batten siding.

We're gonna be able
to get this all done up.

Everything will
be pressed and ready

for our windows
so they'll drop right in.

We got the workbenches built.

And the dust collection system
all ducted in.

This was a cyclone unit
that I had in my barn.

It creates the vacuum.

This is your intake.

Once it hits the chamber,

sawdust, like,
small pieces of wood,

come in here, spin around,
they drop down

and they go into
the trash can.

And then it's a system
of duct work

and valves and shutoffs
that get connected

to the different tools.

Now, the garage door,
we've had the windows
boarded up.

Just waiting to get the
windows and doors installed.

I was there to try and just
make sure everything was ready

and they could move forward
with installation

These new tools,
they're gonna help us out.

That's just gonna make
all our cuts more cleaner.

It's gonna make everything
just so much more efficient.

I am so impressed.

It's amazing to think
how far we've come.

Yeah.

Yeah. You know, when
we first bought this place,

it had a leaky roof.
We fixed that.

Put up new siding.

New windows, entry doors.

This was just a dark room
on the end of the building.

You know, came in,
reenergized the place.

New lighting, new ceilings.

Ashley came in, hooked us up
with all the tools.

Got some
colorful fatigue mats.

The kids helped paint
some signs for the place.

It really brings a lot of
life to the space.

And, you know,
dust collection system.

So this place is ready to go.

I mean, by far
Ashley's best staging job yet.

And she's done
a heck of a job.

But this is over the top.

We do have one more thing.

we lost Wild Bill last month.

And we grabbed his jacket

and a picture
of the original crew

and put together
this nice memory for him.

So we thought it'd be fitting
to put it up here

so Wild Bill
will always be with us.
