a ski camp.

build close by.

So I wanted to get a few
runs in on the mountain.

So I grew up with
a ski area right in my town.

In college,
I was a ski instructor,
Amy was a liftee.

So, we've always been
close to ski areas.

So we came up,
I think it was about
five years ago,

and just fell in love
with the place.

And finally this piece
of property came up.

So I reached out to Ryan

to see if those guys
could build a ski camp.

Looks like you guys
got a lot of the stuff here.

Yeah. We've got
in techno metal posts,

waste water's in.

Under here wrapped up,
we have all the framing.

All the sheathing.

You have a size,
a style, a design in mind?

Yeah.
We've got plans.

Uh, it's primarily, ski camp.

Fairly small. It's only 20x28.

But there's gonna
be an eight foot
porch on the front.

Just one bedroom.
But there's gonna be a loft
on the second floor.

So that we could have
all our friends come up
to go skiing.

- Nice.
- Absolutely, absolutely.

You have any colors in mind?

- Natural.
Not really... Yeah.
-Natural, yeah.

No bright colors
or anything like that.

-So, yeah.
Yeah, blends right in.
-We love your style.

- Yes, of course.

Is there anything
special that we can
do for you guys?

-Yeah. So a ski storage
would be great.

I have skis
and a snowboard.

And I like to switch
back and forth.

So, having a place
to put both of them
would be good.

Absolutely.

And then,
we have a dog
who has severe anxiety.

So, while we're skiing,
the dog's gonna
be at the camp.

So it's gonna be as much
her place as it is ours.

Yeah. So we prefer,
you know, during lunch time,

we can come and, you know,
spend time with her.

And so she's not
by herself all day
at the house.

Yeah.
I think, you know, you've got plenty of materials on site.

What do you have
for a budget
to put into this project?

Yeah, we have
a very tight budget.

We only have $50,000
to work with.

So, use everything we have.

Stretch our money
as best you can.

And then,
whatever's left over,

I'm comfortable
finishing the camp myself.

I think $50,000, we could
get a structure built for you.

You'd be okay with us
getting it built

we're really in no rush.

Ed's coming down the road
with that tractor.

And we're all darn happy.

brush are packin' up,
and don't get cleaned.
And water sits there.

Having a camp
high and dry with air flow...

Perfect.

It's gonna be
bullet proof forever.

In week one, we were
all here together.
We did a heck of a job,

getting the first-floor
floor system ready to go.

Since then, Brad has had
that decked over.

of the exterior walls up.

And all those
windows were cut in.

That's a lot of work.

-Looks good.

off the ground, huh?

You know, I had imagined
by after this week,

he will have
the interior walls in.

He'll have his beams in.

Second story floor joist's up.

And be working on
to his gable linings
and his roof pattern.

at the Richardson camp.

And we're making
a lot of progress.

putting up walls.

the rafters up.

in on the projects.
You know, once a week or so.

We got a million
things going on.

So it's good to know
that the projects
are in good hands.

So after they get
this framed up,

they'll work on sheathing it.

framed and sheathed.

After the guys
get this sheathed...

there will be a roof system
going over our covered porch.

at the Richardson camp.

is looking great.

So today, we're gonna
try and get as much roofing
on the camp as we can.

So that we can
get it watertight,

and start installing
windows and doors.

We had quite
a bit of roofing
at our headquarters.

we have to do a few
different steps.

framers finished right now,

and, we know they're
gonna finish it off
by themselves over time,

we can't have
gaps in the siding.

So, insects can get through.

So what I would do,
I'm gonna put
this strip, right?

I'm going in for a block
right there and boom,
boom, boom, boom.

The carpenters are trying
to do the right thing.

They'd cut out
for the rafters.

That's really tedious.

And to get it perfect
is a lot of time.

We got an eight foot piece.

So let's start
where eight feet is.

So I just showed 'em
about the Chase and Ryan
trick we've learned.

What that's gonna do is,

now that's gonna allow us
just to put a block.

It's gonna be,
but easier in the long run.

And quicker.

You know, fill that strip up.

that they're looking
forward to,

is being able to bring
their dog up here.

So, I was thinking something
that would be cool is...

I think to build
a stand for them.

So, that they don't
have to bend down.

when the dogs have

it's hard when they have
to like, bend way down.

where they are just making

being creative.

Well, first we measured out
where the hole was gonna
be for the dog bowls.

that you attach
your jigsaw to...

these windows in.

It's pretty important
that we get these in,

to keep the snow
out of the building.

As you can see,

the electrician's already
started laying
some of the wires.

So we want to keep those dry.

And we're building
this beautiful porch for them.

So I thought it'd be great
to build a snowboard bench.

on the porch.

We're gonna go over
to the table saw.

Well, so the first
thing that we did

was that we had to cut
down the legs to size.

And then we plane them out.

To make them smooth
and the right width.

And that'll be notched out...

The legs, so that,
then they would fit
in properly together.

Oh, she fits in nicely.

- Is it?

And we drilled out holes.

Put these guys together.

So that we could put
the bolts in 'em.

It feels so nice.

And once we actually
had the end pieces...

...we were able to attach
the snowboards.

I love the bench. I can't wait
to see it on the porch.

And I really just like
the idea of these things,

not ending up in the shed
or in the dumpster.

So it's really cool.

They'll be able
to come in and see it,

and like, remember
their days of snowboarding.

of construction
at the Richardson camp.

Not a lot to finish up.

there's nothing to do

We've got
a main bedroom there.

a decent-size loft up here.

So we've got windows
on the back side,
plenty of head space.

Plenty of room for the kids
sleeping upstairs.

Again, everything
is framed, finished.

But it's ready
for a good cleaning

and Ashley's team
to come in and decorate.

but it's deep.

We're gonna
pull these drawers out,
set 'em over there.

Then we're gonna grab this.

Then walk it underneath.

the measurements he needed.

this snowboard bench for 'em.

And then that dog dish.

-So, I just need a hand
getting that up on the porch.

So the Richardsons
had $50,000 and 12 weeks
to get this cabin built.

- Isn't it cool?
- Very nice.

These are their
old snowboards.

Oh, their snowboards?

- Yeah and one of Ryan's.
- Cool.

We were only taking
it to framers finish.

They had quite a bit
material on site,

and they can now
take it from here.

And finish it off
at their leisure.

And, I can grab the dog dish.

So at least now,
they'll have a space
that's closed in, watertight,

and ready-to-use
for the summer.

Wow, very fancy.

- I know, right.
- Yeah.

It's a ski cabin,
so we kind of, you know,
went with that theme.

Like, little touches
of the mountains,

and skiing and just
the outdoors.

We're so happy to be here.

And, the cabinet
itself is beautiful.

It's just exactly
what we wanted.

-It's gonna double
our days on the slopes.
-That's right.

Yeah, the last time we
were here, there was,
two to three feet of snow.

- Everything was buried.
- Below zero.

- Yeah.
- -But the neighbors were great.

They had a small tractor,
they came and cleared
it out for us.

And, then 'cause
it was a new build,

techno metal posts
were in place,

material's onsite.

We were able to get
going right away.

And, able to get
it framed out fairly quickly.

And then, you know,
nice windows across the front.

We went with a shiplap
pine siding,

- with a solid stain on that.
- Yeah.

-Nice metal roofs.
-Snow will slide right off.

- Perfect.
- I love it.

Just from the outside,
it's gorgeous.

Think Zadie likes it too.

Well, we have
some other things you might
be excited about too.

Yeah?

It's so pretty.
I can't wait to bring
all my friends here.

And we're gonna hang out,

and then it'll be so good
to have Zadie here with us.

He went to the plants.

Zadie has a lot of anxiety.

So having her here with us
when we come up skiing...

come and see her
half way through the day

and, um, she'll feel safer
when she knows
she's closer to us.

So I think
it's gonna help a lot.

We had a day
in the barn, whooped up
this snowboard bench,

- and then the dog feeding station for Zadie.
- -Yeah, this is cool.

So I used to snowboard
with the snowboards
that are on the bench,

which is so sweet.

Be able to enjoy it forever
and not have it sit
in storage somewhere.

So, brings back
a lot of memories.

- Oh, my...

all new plumbing.

I love the kitchen.

My favorite part is the loft.

I thought it would be smaller.

I'm gonna bring
my friends back,

so we can go skiing
and snowboarding.

Plenty of room
for tons of beds.

Yeah.

And I think it'll be fun.

You know, get it,
it's framers finish.

-So you can come in and,
kind of, pick away with it.
-Insulate it up. Yeah.

Yeah. Pick away with
that at your own pace.

- That's the plan this summer.
- I'll be busy.

So the plan is,
I'll do the work

to get the camp
ready for ski season.

So we got some
insulation to do.

Get some heat in there
and we should be ready
to rock and roll.

Well, we do have
one more surprise for you.

A new back door.

And something else too.

It's a locking

We could put all your skis
and snowboards out here.

And it keeps it up
off the ground.

Out of the way, high and dry.

I love the ski locker.

That way we can
keep our dirty, grungy
snowboard and skis in there.

And it frees up
space in the house.

It's super cool.
