all about it.

So my grandparents

bought our cabin in the 1960s.

We come every summer.
Have been coming
every summer,

since I was a kid.

Best time of my life
with my family
was definitely right here.

Me and my brothers,
we were always in the water.

There's just
so much to do here.

We would come up here
with my dad

and he passed away
when I was a teenager.

And, kind of the last photo
I actually have of my dad

is on the porch.

This was just like his
special place to come.

And it's our happy place.
And it's been our happy place.

And so, yeah,
it's really special to us.

When her father,
my brother, got sick...

uh...

-this is the only place
she wanted to be.

I just think it's so special

that I can take
the same pictures
that I had with my dad,

sitting on my dad's lap.
Now I can do
that with my kids.

So what are you
looking to have done
to the camp?

It definitely needs a new roof.
It's the original roof.

I have a three-year-old
and a almost
six-month-old baby.

And the loft is kind of,
dangerous for the kids.

It's a miracle that like,
none of us has
ever fallen out,

'cause I slept in that little,
little loft area.

That was like, my room,
which I thought
was the coolest.

And it would be really
great to have them here
and have it safer.

So we like a dormer
and more sleeping space.

Kitchen and bathroom
need to be updated.

Probably needs
new windows.

- New windows for sure.
- Yes, yeah.

The screened-in porch,
we don't want
screened-in anymore.

It would be more
living space,

-if we were to close that in.

Now, is there
anything on the exterior?

We would really love
a new dock system.

Is there anything
about the cabin you
wouldn't want us to touch?

I do and it's because
everybody knows

it is the red camp
in Belgrade, you know.

The only thing I like to keep
would be the sink
in the bathroom.

I think that actually fits
the style of the camp.

And it was also where
my father shaved.

So, you're looking for more sleeping space,

It really feels all surreal.

To see Ashley and Ryan

you know, our cabin
was gonna be redone,

it just meant a lot.

of the camp, we're going

we're going to jack
and level everything.

needs to be demoed.

of knocking down the curse.

I see the biggest squirrel
nest I've ever seen.

Um, and then,
over in the little corner,

is a petrified squirrel.

stuck to the floor.

Squirrel got caught
by the curse.

We're getting
this porch prepped up.

'Cause we're gonna
close it in eventually.

So we're just gonna
get rid of these screens

and just pull
all the stops.

These screens
are all built as one unit.

Once you get the stops gone,

they just pop right out.

So this camp
was built in the 1950s.

It was built before 1978.

So we have to assume
that they could
have used lead paint.

So we just have
to do a quick test.

They make easy at-home tests.

You can pick up
and you know, you get down
to the base layer.

Break the two vials inside,
shake it up, test it.

If it turns pink,
there's lead.

That tells me
there's no lead here.

I'll do a few other spots,

on a few other windows
to be sure.

But that right there
is a good sign
that there's no lead.

We can safely assume

that there's no lead here
and we're good to go.

Oh, boy.

You know the camp
is cedar log vertical cabin.

They can be a little tricky,
because the vertical
cedar logs,

the tier sheathing,
your framing,
it's structural.

The Seitz want little
bit more living space.

They wanna open up some
of the screened-in porch

to make it part
of the living space.

But, they also want a dormer.

So it's all about
transferring the weight down.

And if you start
ripping walls out,

where's that weight
gonna end up?

We may even wanna
move that door.

That's a good idea.

As for the new dormer
and open up the living space,

we're going to remove a wall,
fill in the doorway,

and add a new wall
with a door.

I mean, for that,
you could put a big...

We are making a bench
in memory of Paul Seitz.

He passed away
a while back.

I thought it would be cool
to just like, make a bench

that we could put outside...

...that they could just
sit by the water

and just kind of,
you know, reflect.

I know the place to come,

-'cause I know who's
got a ton of slabs.

The slaboratory.

For this bench,
we went with cedar.

Because cedar is, um,
a harder wood.

And it's better
to be outside in the elements.

After we cut its size,
we sanded it down.

my wood burning.

We're just cutting sections
of the roof apart
and getting it out of here.

It's week four
at the Seitz camp.

And Jedi and crew have done
a heck of a job.

Camps all jacked and leveled.

They got the roof off in prep,

and today we're gonna
put the dormer on.

They got the new
screened porch over here.

They moved the entrance over.

know the door was there.
It's awesome.

Here we got
temporary supports,

holding this new...
the old roof up.

And today as we get
the new structure on,

we'll put some collar ties in,
and these can come out.

What we're doing is,
we're putting in some
support rafters

on the outer gable walls.

4x6, dressed hemlock.

So what we've had to do is,
pull some of our
sheathing boards,

so we can manipulate
the rafters into place.

support the old raw structure,

adding these 4x6s.

So now we are working
on this front knee
wall for the dormer.

A knee wall is just
a shorter wall.

foot wall, this is four feet.

It's a little higher
than the knee.

I think it should
be called a belly wall

So maybe we should all
change it to a belly wall.

dormer framed in,
everything is great.

is a lot of work.

The last big piece
of the puzzle

is the kitchen layout
and the stairs.

Getting a full set of stairs
is going to be tough.

Because there's not
a lot of space.

We had to steal some
of the kitchen space
to enlarge the bathroom.

But, figure something out.

Ashley vanished.

are looking good

Roof is being finished off.

of phoebe hatchlings.

So, we're not gonna
disturb this window.

the homeowners get here.

we're moving to the inside.

mocking up these stairs.

taking care of the bathroom.

Over the last few days,

Doug's roughed
in all the plumbing.

So now Justin's laying
down new floors.

The sink was really
special to the family.

That was one of the main
things they wanted to keep.

And rightfully so,

it costs a lot
to get a new sink
like that now-a-days.

And there's absolutely
nothing wrong
with that one.

It's good
for my house.

Just moving along,
one step at a time.

On the handrail...

At the Seitz camp,
Jaybird, Justin, and I,

we're just kind of,
making up our
punch list right now.

Justin's doing some
pining in there.

Laying down new
floors in that half
of the front porch,

will make it feel like
one continuous
living space.

We weren't able
to expand the footprint

of the stance very
much at the Seitz camp.

But we were able to expand
it just a little bit,

A new good solid
handrail in there,

and some bigger,

this last piece of this loft.

the guys installed
the safer railing in the loft.

are going in.

We've got a few
pieces of roof trim
that needs to go on.

those will be installed.
Just tying together lose ends.

So before the camp
on the water side

had one screened-in porch
all across the front.

We cut that in half.

Made half
of it into a living space.

We're closing it with windows.

So it will be heated
and part of the living space.

A nice French
double door into that.

And then the half to the right
is going to stay
screened-in porch.

Pretty colors this time.

Mark brought up a large
cast iron porcelain sink
that he wanted to use.

It was like six feet wide.

So we put
in the cabinet bases.

Lovely that way.

What we'll do is,
we'll lock all
the faces together.

And then we'll just
attach it to the wall.

It's cast iron sink.
It's gonna be heavy.

Don't hit Jedi's truck.

Took, you know,
three or four of us

to lift it up
and set it in place.

This is gonna be tricky.

cast iron sink.

We had to move a few wires,
but it dropped in nicely.

And, so heavy
that it's not going anywhere.

Didn't leave
much countertop space.

So we ended up putting
another 24 inch
cabinet beside that.

And then on the opposite wall,
we put some upper cabinets,

which are only 12 inches deep.

On the ground, just to have
a little bit more storage
and countertop space.

I love Ashley's idea upstairs.

Jenna's got two little boys.

You know, on a rainy day,
they wanna be outside,

they'll be up,
they'll be able to hang out.

Right before lunch,
Ash is like, okay,
I want stump chairs.

So we cut up three
cute little stumps
into three little log chairs.

Over the last couple of days,
my team and I came in,

and we staged it.

The homeowners have
some really nice pieces.

We were able to incorporate
those with some new pieces.

That's cute.

I'm especially excited for it.

It's always fun
to do something extra
special for the little kids.

Staging is complete.

We were able
to get the dock installed
over the weekend.

And they've got a great
spot on the water.

Gives them extra
swimming space,

place to tie up the boat,

and get some out
on the water.

this really nice bench.

I'm really excited to put out,
overlooking the water.

So we just have that one

to really update the camp,

the plumbing,
the kitchen, the bathroom.

You know, new loft space
for more sleeping space.

More comfortable
hanging-out area.

And just making the place
ready for all the kids.

It's ready to go.
