So tell us a little bit
about the history of the cabin

and the history of your family
on Maranacook.

Sure. My grandparents
bought this place

back in 1955.

And it was handed
over to my parents and to me.

And you know, it was...
It was an amazing place
to be.

It... It's mystical,
you know?

You can go fishing,

you see loons,

you can go water skiing.

You can go ski jump
down on the other side.

- Ski jump?
- There was a ski jump?

It was an unbelievable place

to do so many different things

and just ideas come
and you do it.

You're gonna have
fun together.

- And now, your family's grown.

And you come up here
with your kids

and grandkids now.

How many kids do you have?

We have seven kids
and they all came up here

when they were little and...

Wow, that's a big family.

Pretty much. Yeah.

Doing all of the same things
that Andy did

when he was little.

It's an oasis
for us.

I always joke about like,
you know, you can keep Miami,

you can keep
the beaches for me,

if I have a vacation,
this is the spot.

- I gotta say one thing.

I'm feeling a lot of pressure
just from these recollections.

- We haven't gone to camp yet.

Well, let's talk
about the cabin now.

What are you looking
to have done to the cabin?

Would love to have,
of course, a new roof

and make it structurally
really sound.

Would love the interior done.

So, with the cabin

because there's
so many people

and over the years
there's been kind of added on

to base to the number
of people live there.

Now, that we're at seven
with kids now,

and significant others.

The house
does not accommodate

the amount of people
we actually host

on a regular basis here.

Mmm-hmm.

And so because of that,

people are sleeping
in hammocks,

-on the floor, in cars.
-Oh, my gosh.

So a really important thing
for us,

extra bedrooms,
little nooks and cranes

where people can sleep,
whether it's a pullout,

sofa or a fold down chair.

And another thing too
is the fire pit area.

I'm the chef on-call.

I, kind of, cook more,
like, cowboy style.

So I would love to see
that area

really built back up.

I'd love to see a new dock.

As you can see
there's a tree on it now.

And every 4th of July,

we have
a family fishing tournament

and we all go to the dock
and hang out.

- Oh, fun.
- Yeah.

So we'd really like to get
the dock fixed.

So how much do you have
to put into the project?

We have come up
with $70,000 for the project.

And when would you
like the camp back?

I can tell you
when they want it back by.

-It's called the 4th of July.
-4th of July.

4th of July is our monster,
monster Celebration.

or 70 people up there.

And so that would be
our dream date.

On the interior of the camp,
we're gonna rip out the wall

that separates the living
room and the kitchen

close off the bedroom wall
that connects to the kitchen.

Build out an extra bedroom
in the hallway,

making the hallway
the main passageway

to all the bedrooms.

Turn that big bedroom
in the back

into two separate bedrooms
and add a loft.

So altogether,
adding three extra bedrooms

so that
we can give the family
more sleeping space.

I'm glad I didn't see
this before they talk,

spoke so highly of this place.

I'd be like, "What are
you guys talking about?"

Let's go check out that dock

she was talking about.

And that deck is not safe.

underneath there was...

The framing was still good.

We're fine.

And, you know, we wanna leave

some of the original
footprint there

just so we know what
we have to build off from...

there are good supports.

I think we can jack it back
into place.

Repair some of the rot.

And it's solid enough
to put a new structure on.

So now, it's just a matter
of tearing off the roof.

take down the walls.

So the plan now is to replace
the deck that we tore off.

areas in that back part.

And then, divide that
back bedroom in half.

the roof sheathed over.

So the back two-thirds
of this new edition

is getting a loft space.

So we need a post
to carry the weight

for the rafters for that.

this all up to one room.

the weight here.

across this that will catch

the weight of this wall
and the weight of the loft.

We put a center hallway,

Bathroom stayed the same.

Took this large bedroom,
turned it into two bedrooms.

of roofing we've never done.

So it's gonna
look good, though.

off of my buddy.

It looks like standing
seam metal roof.

leveling it out,

putting some crushed stone
on the bottom

and using the existing stones
to just kind of form a,

rounded fireplace.

They're just gonna
kind of make it more sturdy.

It's a big camp.

was originally built

before 1978.

We tested for lead,
we didn't find any.

So that's a good thing.

And first thing was
get under there,
jack and level,

reposted, re-supported.

The deck was definitely,
uh, yeah...

not safe.

Got that off of there.

And we started
pulling into...

In front of the camp
and, you know,

where the two met
was all rotted away.

- Wow.
- Stripped the inside

and there really
wasn't much to it,

so the front third of the camp
came off entirely.

We decided to bring
that front up

to match the same roof pitch.

So it was one line
right across.

- Right.
- Wow.

New deck.

Wow.

Every time I look at one
part of the house,

you see another thing.
It's like... Yeah.

And we haven't
even been inside yet.

- I know.
- Let's go inside.

because it's, you know,
your history.

For me, growing up here,

and seeing the changes.

Holy smokes.

I don't recognize the place.

This change
is fantastic for us

and the whole family.

The fact that it opens up

us all to be under
the same roof.

No one's sleeping
outside in a...

In a hammock or in a tent
up in the field,

or getting a motel
down the street.

Well, you know, once we got
everything jacked up,

I mean, it's amazing
how it came right back.

You know, we ended up
tearing down off front third,

rebuilding that,

kept great views
of the water,

added little loft space

for additional
sleeping areas,

that one large bedroom
in the back down to two.

And now we're all
gonna be able

to be under that same roof,

which I think is the most
important thing about this.

So Alexander's already
claimed his room,

so we're gonna have fights
over some of the others.

Yup.

Chase and I are out of here
once the fighting begins.

Yeah, I was about say
I welcome all challengers.

And I'm happy that the camp's
worthy of fighting over.

It's so amazing
