and one from the '90s.

So you might choose to
audition for any of these.

My name is Halle, um,

and I have a big interest
in movie making.

The thing is, they can tell us
stories about ourselves

and what we can actually do
for our futures.

But my main interest
is, um, dragons.

Dragons are awesome,
don't get me wrong,

but a lot of people shamed me

because of my liking
for dragons.

Um, I had a couple of people
that kept bullying me

and they would usually
pick on me

because of my liking for
dragons and drawing.

They would tell me,
"Oh, all you draw is dragons.

You're pathetic."

And they always made fun
of me because I'm…

I have an
autism spectrum disorder,

and I was having difficulty
understanding things

and not doing things right,

and they would call me
pathetic and stupid,

and it just hurt me really bad

because it made me feel like
I can't do anything right,

and it just made me feel that
I wasn't smart enough

or good enough to do anything.

So, tell me how you're feeling
about the school production.

I really want to know.

Well, I'm feeling very nervous
about it,

'cause, I don't know,

I always had a fear that
I'm gonna mess it up somehow.

she feels that

family's definitely

the number one
important thing, um, for me,

um, Mum and Grandma
especially.

So, they've both helped me
to get to who I am

and where I am today.

And the other thing that
I really love and enjoy

is aviation.

And I hope to get a job
as a fast jet pilot.

quite like it.

we do our pilot's training
down at RAAF base, Point Cook.

And that occurs during the
school holidays for two weeks.

I was hoping to do that

but 'cause I'm still
in the process

of getting
my medical certificate,

they need to get more
background details

on my disabilities

and how that affects
my ability

to pilot an aircraft.

Probably an A320. Probably.

Just a different tone
of the engine.

But, yet again,

that could be due to
the different distance.

So, there is a lengthy process
to it with my case.

But they've not said no.
And I…

The key to getting
to your goals

is through determination.

I mean, at the end of the day,

you never know
what's gonna happen.

Yeah, I hear 'em.

I think.

Unless that's…

No, that's definitely
another one that's coming in.

being able to go to school's

been a blessing.

At my other school
I used to get sent home

because of my seizures

multiple times a day.

Used to have
eight to ten a day.

Now I'm having none
or one a day.

And I…

I haven't really been
bullied here.

So, at my other school,
I used to get bullied

every day, pretty much.

And that's made going
to school a nightmare.

And then caused me
to do self-harm

and all that sort of stuff.

So I've, trust me,

I've improved so much
from then.

I'm going to school
five days a week now.

I used to go
three days a week to school,

or hardly at all
because of it.

[school bell rings]

I got diagnosed with
generalised anxiety disorder.

So, it started off with ticks,
and then little jolts,

and they said,
"You need to go home.

They look like mini seizures."

And I went home
bawling my eyes out.

You're always looking for
the dangers with anxiety.

You're not looking…

You're not looking
for the positive,

you're looking for
the dangers.

And that's what kept
pushing me

back and back and back.

And that's what made me worse,

is because I didn't know

how to use positive self-talk

or how to…

Can I help myself get out
of this situation?

Growing up,
my dreams were always like,

be a princess
and live in a magic castle.

But my mum has always
told me that, like,

spiritually, maybe I could be,
like, you know, a princess

or something.

But now my dreams
are more like

being a motivational speaker

and a businesswoman one day.

It also means
I'm going to have to do

a lot of work and stuff,

like, actually
get off my butt.

To be honest,
when I was a little girl

I definitely imagined myself
being in a wheelchair forever.

You know,
it's actually my, um…

my eleven-year anniversary
in a few weeks

from when I got hit
by the car.

I developed
quite a few problems,

like, I get tired so easily,

and sometimes when I'm
really, really stressed

or I kind of over-exert,

then I end up fainting.

To be honest, I like to scream
into my pillow

and just scream
all the bad out.

[Chelsea's mum] Chelsea's my
youngest child. She's 16.

And, when she was five, she
got an acquired brain injury.

So she was hit by a car.

Very close to dying.

At the time when…
when it happened,

we spent about six months
at the Children's recovering.

And so she had to do,
you know,

everything again,
walking, talking.

Um, but she's really strong
in herself,

and I think that's really
helped her

because she's like a fighter.

Yeah.

Um, she's super funny.

You know, everyone says
she should be a comedian.

[laughs] Yeah.

Has she cried yet?

See, that, she just… [laughs]

She wants me to cry
but I'm not gonna.

[laughs]

would get emotional,

to get on stage and that.

And I just felt like…

I feel relieved
after all of that.

I felt so much anxiety
just pushing through it.

But I pushed through it
as best I could,

through my anxiety
that I was having.

But, thankfully,
I got through it and I did it.

And I saw my family in there.

They were so kind
and loving to come see me.

And I'm so happy
of how this turned out.

And I know that
my friends and family

will be proud of me.

But more importantly,
I need to be proud of myself

and love myself for who I am

because I know that
I can do it.

[audience cheers]

any, um, final thoughts?

Well, I feel like I've done
what I needed to do

and I finally did the goal
that I needed to do

for Auntie Irene.

I've finally done it,
and you know what?

I think the show's really
helped me move on from her.

Like, every time I hear
"You're The Voice" I cry,

but now, I don't
so much anymore.

I don't cry
as much as I used to

and I think it's helped me
move on pretty well. Hi.

Um, I… I just gotta say,

it has made me feel
more confident

about myself and, um,

talking, talking
in a big crowd now,

I'm more confident about it.

It kind of helped me, like,
realise more about my career

that I wanna do
after high school.

[Adelaide] My favourite thing
from the production

was you being so funny
without the script.
