Twenty five years ago,

the most shocking film ever
made was smuggled into Britain.

The film contained images of
such extreme sexual depravity,

it was never officially
released and no one is quite

sure where the images came from.

How the film was made and who
made it has been shrouded in

mystery until now.

For the first time,

this program will reveal the
people who made Animal Farm,

the impact it had on Britain
and the porn industry,

and the dark secret behind the
woman who became known as the

Queen of Bestiality.

The most degrading thing
anyone had ever seen,

up to that point.

It was like something from
the darkest nightmare.

For me, it was
entirely unbearable.

Animal Farm is grotesque.
It's humiliating and debasing.

Here I am twenty years later
talking about Anil Farm and

there's still, you know,

a number of things that I
can see that are, you know,

heavily imprinted in my mind.

Mainly because they're
just so shocking.

It was insane. You could not
believe what you were watching.

There's only so much
you can wallow in.

I think Animal Farm's pretty
much at the bottom of the pit.

When Animal Farm was first introduced
to Britain in the early eighties,

the country was about to
go through a decade of radical

change altering the political
and social landscape forever.

Advances in technology were to
have a massive impact on what

people watched in their homes.

Along came the video
recorder and it was,

like a new avenue had
been opened had been opened up.

It became a boom boom because
TV used to stop at a certain

time each night.

Used to get the national
anthem late twelve o'clock and

everyone had to go to bed.

Finally, you had something you could
take into your own home and and watch.

In nineteen eighty,

only four percent of households
in Britain had a VCR.

By the end of the decade, this
had risen to sixty percent.

It was a revolution in
consumer choice and the

But the VHS tape also
catapulted porn films from CD

Soho cinemas into the British
living room for the first time.

As soon as you mentioned
the word video,

everyone just knew you
were talking about porn.

I don't know why, like, the
word video and porn were like,

you know, so linked.

One in every four VHS tapes

anywhere on the market
was was a porno tape.

It was just mad, madness.

But the demand for ever
more sensational films grew.

Bootlegging and
piracy became rife.

Home dubbing made one
film above all others,

an underground
legend, Animal Farm.

It was dubbed off by people
who had the who were the first

people to figure out how to
do their own home dubbing.

And it just went on to some
sort of weird swaps network.

Everyone who's seen Animal Farm,

it's a it's a bit like
when Kennedy died,

they can tell you what they were
doing and where they watched it.

The one and only time I watched the
video was in nineteen eighty five,

it was halfway through my
first year of university.

There was eight other guys
I lived within a big house.

He'd be at a party, which
is where I first saw it.

And some evil, evil
scumbag, just stuck it,

just took out the horror film
that was playing or music video

that was playing, shoved it on,

and then and then just just
sat there waiting to see

everybody's reactions.

Nobody could have prepared
us for what we were going

to see.

It was due on the floor time.

These were odd lads and they were
some of them were walking out.

One bloke went to the toilet,
was sick. I felt very queasy.

There are a few scenes in it that
just stay with you and haunt you.

Animal Farm has no plot,

but shows countless indecent
acts including penetrative,

anal, and oral sex with
every conceivable animal.

Couldn't get the bloody
images out of my mind.

It was horrible.
It was like burnt.

It was just burnt in
in my into my retinas.

This woman has these eels
up her and afterwards

the closing shot of the eel on
the frying pan and they eat it.

And that's a pretty
messed up film, isn't it?

Why would anybody want
to fillet a horse?

Why would anybody want to shove
a live eel into their vagina?

I didn't know a pig's cock was a
corkscrew and I don't think anyone did.

That was sort of made.

I think everyone, when they saw
the the corkscrew pig's cock.

The scenes in Animal
Farm are so graphic,

it was used to shuttle it.

I'm not sure that anything like
Animal Farm was was really sort

of ever produced as a
masturbatory aid, if you like.

It's got to be probably one of
the most unerotic things you

can ever see.

It's designed entirely,
to make you feel ill.

When you're eighteen, you know,

you love to be able to brag
to your mates you've seen a

particular film even
if you didn't like it.

I suppose there's a bit of
kudos attached to it, you know.

Oh, yes. So you've got
a film with double anal.

Well, I've got Animal Farm.

To go around saying, you know,

you've seen this
particular film.

It's like a almost rites
of passage into adulthood.

It became the iconic porn
film of the eighties.

Although everyone talked
about Animal Farm, in fact,

there was no such film.

There's something like
four different versions.

All that's known
generically as Animal Farm.

One of the enigmas about the
this production is the fact

that it's universally known as Animal
Farm and yet no titles ever appear.

Animal Farm was really just
a sort of generic name that

people sort of made up.

I mean, I never saw any
copies in the West End.

So where did the collection
of films commonly known as Animal

Farm come from?

And who was the woman who
starred in the most infamous

pornographic movie ever made?

Twenty five years ago,

Animal Farm was the most talked
about underground film in

Britain.

But little is known about how
it was made and where it came

from and even less about
the woman who starred in it.

In the early eighties,

the VCR revolution led to a
massive demand for pornographic

films, especially illegal
hardcore material.

The police were giving three year
custodial sentences to pornographers.

A full scale war
was taking place.

One tends to forget
how seriously they took it.

I mean, it was I mean,
it's almost on a par with drugs.

You gotta stop with
thirty or forty tapes,

you're gonna go to jail.

The authorities were keen to
win the war and began stamping

down hard on pornographers.

It was ludicrous overkill.

It was like something
out of a a CIA plot.

Once I was sort of on
the phone, I said, well,

I can't come because I've got
to go and help my mother move

house in Cambridge.

The next thing I know,

my mother's been
raided in Cambridge,

so there was obviously
phone tapping.

Tapping.

There were prosecutions
going on all over the place.

I mean, the amount
of time and energy.

I mean, when I got raided,

there was, like, sixteen
cops, cars crisscrossing,

people following
me walkie talkies.

Ludicrous.

But illegal pornography
was a lucrative business.

And to meet an ever
growing demand,

pornographers became more
inventive in avoiding the long

arm of the law.

We used to go abroad, take
the VHS cassette apart,

take the spool out, and, put
it in a whiskey, you know,

the posh whiskey tubes like
Glenmorangie or something.

And then there was the hardcore
scams, as we called them,

that were brought in
from Denmark, or Holland,

in the bacon lorries.

And that was under
the counter stuff.

It was quite a big operation,

but it was worth it because
everyone was making so much money.

During one summer's evening
in nineteen eighty one,

four bestiality tapes,

which would collectively
become known as Animal Farm,

were smuggled into the UK.

Well, once you'd got the
tapes into the country, okay,

that was like a major
celebration thing.

Right. You know, we've
got them all here.

You'd reassemble them.

You'd get like the cassettes,
put them all back in,

re spool them up
and, run off copies.

And then you'd go down to West End
End and sell them to the shops.

And the shops would then sell
them on to the punters for

sixty, seventy quid a time.

Police raids in Soho uncovered
the animal farm tapes,

but were too late to stop
them being widely distributed.

However, the police did
make a widely distributed.

However, the police did make
a breakthrough and found the

source of these
bestiality tapes.

A company called Color
Climax based in Denmark.

Color Climax were churning out
up to two thousand four hundred

VHSs a day to satisfy
a global market.

They were cashing in on the
video revolution by recycling

their nineteen seventies films.

Remarkably, this
was all above board.

Denmark had abolished its censorship
laws in nineteen sixty nine,

which overnight turned its
capital Copenhagen into the

world's epicenter of hardcore

pornography.

Pornography quickly developed
into becoming the country's

biggest money earner,
second only to agriculture.

Denmark became more famous
for porn than bacon.

At the forefront of this
burgeoning industry was

professional
pornographer, Ole Eck.

There was a lot of
money, in the business,

especially as it was, quite

sensational that
it was now allowed.

Ole Ek quickly became one
of the biggest pornography

producers in Denmark.

During the sixties, whilst

shooting girls
dancing or stripping.

After advertising
for nude models,

he received a call from a young
farm girl, Bodil Johansson,

which would change both
their lives forever.

At one point, I asked her

to to be on hands and
knees with her bottom in the air.

There was a straw of hay

coming out of her bottom cheeks

and I thought, well, this
is perhaps a little too

rural.

After Oley Ek introduced Bodil
to the world of pornography,

within weeks, she had
approached his rivals,

the Color Climax Corporation.

They were known to cater
for specialist tastes,

including child porn
and sex with dwarves.

But Baudel would make a
suggestion that would make them

millions by taking
pornography to another level.

Bastille pornography was born.

This was the first
time I'd actually seen

a woman perform
sex with an animal.

In only a few weeks,

I've been in I don't know how
many magazines and have made

eleven or twelve little movies.

Once, we made four
films in four hours.

But the reasons behind
this young woman's extraordinary

actions remained a mystery.

It seemed a genuine love of
animals made Bodil Juyenson go

where no other had gone before.

Aged fifteen and
alienated from her family,

she had found herself
homeless in Oddsred,

deep in the Danish countryside.

A local pig farmer,
Gunnar Nielsen,

took pity on her
and gave her a room.

My first impression of Bodle
was that she had a different

outlook to most teenagers.

I don't know what her
childhood was like.

She was passionate
about animals.

Not much else.

She really enjoyed helping
me inseminate the south.

I love to see the pig
cover a female pig.

Sometimes I worked an extra hour in
order to take the pig to its female.

I found that wonderful to do.

Suddenly, asked if she could come out to
the neighboring farms with me and my boss.

I refused. I told her
that the locals were very conservative.

And because she was young,

people would talk if
they saw us together.

She was offended and angry.

Frustrated, Bodo left to set
up her own breeding farm,

Insemination Central.

The local farmers soon became
captivated by the pretty Boer girl.

When she started her business,

she was popular
with the farmers.

They were amazed that a girl
could handle the aggressive boars.

Always been on her.

However, it didn't take long
for malicious rumors to start.

There were many rumors about
Bodily in the local area as she

used to bring the boars
to the farmers after dark.

And, of course, the farmers'
wives didn't like this.

And because the farmers'

wives didn't want their men
alone in the stables with her,

the wives prevented their
husbands from using her business.

The rumors were endless.
I'm sure it was just talk.

Boril was never given much of a
chance and her business was ruined.

Verbally, more dirt has been cast at
me than the dirt that balls created.

Nine out of ten men wanted to
fuck me and their wives hated me.

Maybe that's why insemination
central has a lousy economy.

As she needed extra money,

otherwise she would have
to keep on moving around.

This is when she started
her other occupation.

Desperate to keep her
pigs and failing business,

Bodil saw a money
making opportunity

by taking her love for
animals to the big screen in

Copenhagen.

She got into porn because she
decided I'm gonna get make some

money and I'm gonna buy myself a farm
and I'm gonna say screw everybody.

I'll I'll just do
what I want to.

Within a few months,

she earned enough to
keep her pig farm afloat.

It was easy money.

And between nineteen sixty
nine and nineteen seventy two,

Bodil starred in forty films
featuring her having sex with animals.

Her celebrity status was rising
and her unusual sexual behavior

even reached the ears of
bohemian artists in Copenhagen.

A Japanese filmmaker,
Shinkichi Tajiri,

had moved to Europe in the
fifties and was keen to find a

new subject for a documentary.

I'd heard about this woman and
I heard that she was being,

used in some of
the porno scenes.

A lot of a lot of people had
sort of got onto her doing

stills and then films.

And,

I wanted to show her as a human
being in three dimensions,

not as a kind of
a sex curiosity.

Shinkichi contacted Ola Eig,
the man who discovered Bodil,

to help produce the film.

I called her, made
arrangements to go there.

We were there three days,

living at her farm.

I thought she was, she
was a very healthy,

very warm person,

very country like, very genuine.

She doesn't give
you any bullshit.

She tells you flat
out what she does.

If you ask her a question, she
says, I do this, I do that.

And if you don't like
her, talk to you. Yeah?

As we were doing the film,

one of the things that
really struck me about the farmhouse

was that, it was open not
only to herself and to us.

There were cats and dogs and
rabbits sleeping in the farm I

mean, in her bedrooms
and so forth, you know.

It didn't smell too well.

When we shot her in the nude
and she she could be sort

of covered in flies,
she just left them.

She was so much part of
nature that nature followed,

her into the farmhouse.

It didn't smell good. Didn't
look very, clean, but okay.

That was that was
Bodie, you know.

Tajiri and Oley spent
four days at Bodil's farm,

capturing her looking after and
having sex with her animals.

They called their
documentary, A Summer Day.

Whilst shooting, the sound equipment
packed up and they had to come up with a

radical solution by using
Beethoven's aptly named

Pastoral Symphony.

We found the perfect
answer in Beethoven's

sixth symphony

which exactly portrays
the beauty of nature.

News of Sienkiewicz's film
traveled throughout the Danish

boho scene and he was invited
to enter his film in nineteen

seventy's biggest
blue movie awards.

The international wet dream
festival held in Amsterdam was

the x rated
alternative to Cannes,

appealing to pornographers and
free thinkers from around the

world and even attracting
the odd feminist judge.

When you went into a screening,

you realized that most of the
people there were just there as

ordinary consumers of porn.

The Macintosh Brigade was there,

and then there were the
revolutionaries like that, the flower

children.

The atmosphere, generally
was of course, very,

very open, very, very exciting.

It was a wild scene,
and beyond that,

there was the French
kind of activity.

You know, everybody was
outscrewing and so forth.

The the wild scene.

It was a big party
essentially around

films.

There was also an all kind of an
orgy space in back of the screen

at that time.

And it was all it was all kind
of lying down on cushions there.

So it was all
cushiony and foamy and

psychedelic man.

I was watching I watched quite a few
films and was bored by most of them.

And if

Summer's Day.

People didn't know
what the hell it was.

I mean, they they were there to
watch to see sex, to see porn.

The most shocking

scene was, of course,
sucking a pig's cock.

By that time, the,
the audience, I think,

there was dead silence.

You know, everybody was
you could further pin drop.

We astounded so many people
like this cannot happen.

This I have seen it,
but it is not real.

So they went into what the
Americans called denial.

There was one guy that
was, sitting next to me.

He said he was just frozen.

If it was any indication of
how the other people was,

he he they were shocked,
terribly shocked.

It's astounding and poetic.
What more do you want?

It was beautiful.

It was amazing.

It was clearly done
with a lot of of,

care and craft.

I certainly didn't vote for it.

Not one of my votes
went to a summer's day.

Up against other films such as
Adultery for Fun and Profit and

Jesus is My Bridegroom, A
Summer Day was a surprise hit.

Our film, A Summer
Day, was granted the,

Grand Prix award

as the, the finest
movie in the festival.

Winning first prize,

A Summer Day catapulted
Bodil into the spotlight.

And overnight, she became
an underground celebrity.

Other documentary crews from
around the world captured her

exploits on film.

With her growing fame,

Bodil became an entrepreneur and
transformed her farm into a film set.

But it wasn't just filmmakers
who flocked to see her.

The world seemed to
descend upon her farm.

Tourists now, especially Japanese
arrived by the busload from Copenhagen.

She really seemed to
enjoy all the attention.

The flashes flashed on the
cameras and all she had to do

was lay there in the barn with the horse
and the boar and the other animals.

So the tourists
flocked to see her.

After thirty minutes or so,

the lights were switched off and they
returned all the way to Copenhagen.

My act turned more people
on than I'd imagined.

TV crews came from
all over the world.

It was an exciting period and I
realized I could make some money.

She seemed to be enjoying
it and she certainly was

enjoying the intention she was
getting for doing it on camera.

Behind the face of the boar
girl lay a dark secret.

An unspoken reason why she crossed
the bizarre line into bestial porn.

Animal Farm contains some of
the most shocking images of

sexual depravity ever
captured on film.

At the heart
is one woman, Bodil

A farm girl from rural Denmark
who had starred in over forty

low budget bestiality films.

Bodil has become
something of a legend,

and as much as she is famous for having
sex with animals and enjoying it.

She liked being
photographed and filmed,

showing her personal delight to,

to have sex with her pets.

She takes pleasure in
sexually arousing her animals.

And I guess is exhibitionist
enough or in need of finances

enough to want to do in public.

Until now, it's been assumed
the reason Bodil performed

gross sexual acts such
as fellating dogs and having

intercourse with pigs was for
financial gain and because she

derived some pleasure from it.

But Bodil's past holds a
much darker reason that would lead

her to perform hundreds of
sexual acts with animals.

To many, she seemed
a happy child,

but her home life
was far from simple.

She was brought up by her
devoutly Christian mother in a

tiny village outside
of Copenhagen.

Her father was absent for most
of her childhood and her mother

could be very abusive.

She was in school and she would
come home with a with a young

boy or something.

She was probably ten,
twelve years old.

And,

there was she was standing
outside with the boy before she

went in the house and the
mother would see her through

the window and so forth.

And when she came
in, she ripped her,

ripped her terribly.

The mother had was sexually
frustrated and took it out on

Bodie and to the point where she

eventually sort of alienated her
from any kind of human contact.

Her feelings of isolation
were to be compounded when one

summer's afternoon in nineteen
fifty six, aged twelve,

an event happened so devastating

that it would haunt Bodil
for the rest of her life.

She was walking home from
school when she was approached

by a strange man.

All alone on a train
station platform.

He took her into
the waiting room.

She was violently raped.

After telling her
fanatically religious mother,

the innocent Bodil found
herself blamed for the rape.

I have never been beaten up by
my mother so much than when I

came home from that.

Confused, angry, and resentful,

Bodil made a promise which would
haunt her for the rest of her days.

I said to mama that when
I grew up, I'd fuck balls.

I couldn't think of
anything more naughty.

She was so shocked that she
thought I was a lie to the devil.

As Bodil became older, her oath
to her mother slowly began to

manifest itself.

Isolated from normal
human affection,

Bodil sought solace from
the animals she loved.

Dog would get up, come
up in the morning,

jump on the bed and
wake her up and so,

and he would sniff
around like some of the,

some animals would do.

And at a certain age, I think
she was probably twelve,

she, she let it happen.

He began to sniff
her and so forth and,

and she probably had a,

some kind of an orgasm, and
that became her first, lover.

As long as I knew her,

she had a little
locket with a portrait,

with a photograph
of the dog there.

She preferred animals
to people, and this is,

the the fundamental reason that,

that she went as far
as she did in in her

love life.

Bodil left her mother's farm, aged
only fifteen, never to return.

Unhappy and bewildered,

she went out into the world
knowing only how to look after

and love animals.

The success of Bodil's films
and the mass distribution of

hard core porn emanating
from Copenhagen in the

'70s meant that her face
was recognizable to millions

throughout Europe.

Adopted by the artistic left as
the vanguard of free love and a

symbol of being at
one with nature,

Odile had gained some financial
stability and invested all her

capital into what she always
dreamed of, her own farm.

Towards the end
of the seventies,

Bodil's life was settling down
into an almost normal existence.

She was living on a farm
seventy miles outside

Copenhagen with her daughter
and a local man, Knud Anderson.

I'm bored when I'm
alone and so is he.

And so we're good
company for each other.

He's always happy to help
me with my other business,

Insemination Central and
driving around the pigs.

He wasn't a very bright
kind of guy, very ordinary.

He was a nice person, I suppose.

The farm itself
was very ordinary.

There was nothing special about it.
It was a very rather dirty.

She wasn't in a
very good housewife.

She didn't give a She didn't care
about cleaning up and so forth.

But to subsidize the
upkeep of the animals,

Bodil was still allowing sex
tourists up to her farm to make

their own private bestiality

films.

Well, people were just going up
making, porno films about her.

They didn't care about her.

She was exploited by almost
anyone with a camera and

a possibility to produce
pictures with her.

But by now, it was only amateur filmmakers
who wanted to shoot the Queen of the Boers.

Bodil was in her mid thirties,

and the Danish porn industry
was looking elsewhere for its

hardcore action.

Because she couldn't
get any movie contracts,

I think it all
went wrong for her.

She certainly never
never became rich or,

wealthy or well off even.

She was sort of constantly on
a very basic level financially.

As they were they were giggles
There's rumors that she owed

people money left,
right, and center.

She was notorious for
never paying rent.

And when the focus was
off, the money was gone.

It was sort of a

a decline.

By nineteen eighty,

the only income Bodil could
bring in was performing live

sex with her dog in a number of small
clubs in the back streets of Copenhagen.

She had three performances every
evening in in different porno clubs.

So she was always
running back and forth.

She was very, very busy.

She smiled and seemed happy,

but she may have been
deeply unhappy on the knees,

but she would never have let on.

Ironically,

just as Bodil was
struggling to survive,

her face was being shown in
sitting rooms across Britain as

illegal copies of Animal Farm
became widely circulated.

Odell's,

reputation as the
queen of bestiality,

came because she was the first
ever person to appear in,

a bestial porn video.

There was, you know,

stories going around that
there is this mythical video.

I thought it was just gonna go into
the ether and never be heard of again.

But how wrong that was.

Animal Farm had this kind of
supersonic mythical status

attached to it.

By nineteen eighty one,

Animal Farm still had the power
to shock audiences in Britain.

However, in Denmark, after
a decade of bestiality,

society had moved on.

The porn industry turned
its back on Bodil Johansson.

She had lost her worth.

Debt spiraled out of control
and she was smoking up to a

hundred cigarettes a day.

Her sole source of comfort
was a bottle of schnapps.

Whenever I saw a balding
in in the local area,

she would look like
she's had a few too many.

She wasn't what I expected the
porn star to look like at all.

Her clothes were filthy and
her hair was messy, you know,

like a manual labor.

Baudel's life was in free fall.

Baudel couldn't look after
animals anymore because she

drank far too much.

She wasn't able to and
the animals started to suffer.

She couldn't handle it.

In nineteen eighty one,

her world collapsed when police
and animal welfare officers

raided her farm after a
tip-off from the locals.

They found Bodil's farm in
an extreme state of decay,

filth and neglect.

Experienced officers were
sickened by what they saw.

Pigs were drowning in a meter and
a half of their own excrement.

The carcass of one rotten pig
was found decomposing half

eaten by the other pigs.

Of all the animals she
had once loved so dearly,

not one survived.

On the eleventh of December,

Bodil was charged with severe
neglect and animal abuse and

was sentenced to
thirty days in jail.

I know she was so distraught
about losing her pigs.

The police took her favorite
horse and put it down.

She never got over it.

On release from prison,
Bodil had lost everything.

She was not only
supporting herself,

but her daughter and
her partner, Cnut,

also an alcoholic.

She was left with little choice.

She actually performed as a
more or less a hookah in the

red light district
of Copenhagen.

But this this wasn't,
what she wanted.

What she wanted
was and remained,

the animals.

She was quite gullible
and people definitely took

advantage of her.

Perhaps that's why she
ended up as a prostitute.

She began renting a seedy room in
Copenhagen's red light district.

I thought, wow, that's that's
not the boat I remember.

Winding up in the red light
district certainly is now no

privileged status.

From there on, it sort
of became a slow decline.

One client in particular
spent many hours with Bodil

witnessing her decline.

Well, I was feeling horny and wanted her
to touch me and maybe give me a massage.

That's why I contacted her.

In my situation, it's very hard to turn
down the most disgusting propositions.

For me, staying alive in the
hooking business is hell.

Would give me what we in
Denmark call a Swedish,

you know, where she would move
her hand up and down my penis.

And after ten or
fifteen minutes,

we would agree we were done
and would go downstairs to the

kitchen and get drunk on wine.

We took the last train
every night from Copenhagen,

and twice a week,

Bodle did too on her way back
from the red light district.

People who knew her
avoided her on the train,

saying she stank of
shit and all sorts.

I was surprised and repulsed by
the depth to which she sank as

we all were in the local area.

Baudel was desperate to fuel
her alcohol problem and was

happy to exchange sex for booze.

Her partner, Knut,
was okay with this.

He told me that as long as she
got the really cheap stuff,

cherry wine, she could
give me a massage.

We only tried sex once,

but it wasn't anything to write
home about because she was

usually drunk when she
turned up at my door.

I thought eventually
that something

would not very nice
would happen to Bodhi.

There were so many
rumors when she died.

Perhaps a horse killed her,
suicide, or a natural death.

Which one is true? I don't know.

There has been tremendous speculation
about the fate of the boar girl.

Even those close to
her are unsure of her

Towards the end of
Bodil Uwensson's life,

her self abuse had
become much worse.

Swapping sexual
favors for alcohol,

she was a sad figure with no friends
and no one to look after her.

Just before she died,

she was drinking a
bottle of schnapps a day,

almost a bottle and a half.

On top of the alcohol,

she was hooked on out
of date tranquilizers

you're not even required to

And I have seen crime scenes
of dead bodies of women being

eaten by maggots having
been raped, tortured, and killed,

and they're lying
in shallow graves.

We've seen Animal Farm. Alright.

It's people girls

So what's the big deal?
