is Dorian Investigates.

Welcome to this series of
podcasts which I'm calling

Group Home Tragedy.

Did you know that more
than 57,000 kids under 18

in the care of welfare
agencies have been placed in

group homes rather than with
relatives or foster families?

It's true.

The majority of these
teens, both boys and girls,

have been sent to such homes by the courts

for various offenses.

However, many of these
teens had family issues

but no criminal records,

therefore they couldn't
live with their parents

for extended periods of time.

Back in 1994 a group home in
Morgan County Pennsylvania

was described in newspaper
stories as the home of horror

after multiple disappearances
and suspected murders

took place there.

Brian, you were one of
the teens who survived

the incidents there correct?

- Yes.

- We should also acknowledge
your girlfriend, Alyssa,

of that group home, correct?

- No, I only met Brian a few years ago.

of these kids in these homes

can be really violent at times

so you're gonna need a big
guy to control situations.

The appropriate papers and
records have been filed.

- Hey, I went to that
hurry-up-and-wait crap in the service.

to overcrowd the home?

You sent me those papers on that new kid,

supposed to arrive today.

Where am I supposed to bunk

that most facilities are never run

at maximum efficiency.

And that overcrowded
conditions are most often

inaccurate perceptions by staff members

who don't realize the
potential for new arrangements.

We were even gonna write a letter

how and why you came to live

in the Morgan County group home?

- [Brian] Well, I ended up in court,

because of a pool hall fight I was in.

See, this girl bumped into a player.

He went off on her, I stepped in,

and his pals jumped me.

The cops were called,

and I was charged with disorderly conduct.

The judge told me I
was being disrespectful

coming into his court room with long hair.

And he wouldn't tolerate it.

In the end, I got six months probation,

and sent to Morgan County.

Naturally, I was upset.

To top it off, this wrestling guy,

the house parent, picks
me up at the court house,

and acts all tough right off the bat.

For some stupid reason,

I still remember spitting out my gum,

and the dick made me pick it up.

Well, then he drives me to a barber shop.

They chop off all my hair,

and then we head out to
who the hell knows where.

I had been in group homes before.

So I was expecting the worst.

(knocking on door)

- Yeah?

- You can bunk here with gorgeous George.

- Hey Commando, the name's Greg.

- And this is Brian Worth.

- Whose shit is this?

- That's Rocker's.

He's confined to the cell right now.

I'll get him another roommate.

in the weight training area.

an emergency anymore.

I'd just dial the regular
police department.

- I remember one time when I was small,

about 10 or 11 years old,

Karen, who was 13, 14,

we went for a walk down
by the Trout Creek,

in fact, kids from this very group home,

they jumped out of the bushes.

using a lethal choke hold.

Our special guest today is Michael.

The younger brother of a psychology intern

who worked at Morgan County during

his senior year in college.

Murdered by his boss at that fucking home.

And my sister Karen, years before that.

Raped and murdered.

When I was 10, I weighed over 150 pounds.

I'd always run home crying.
