[Knapp] We just landed in Brazil,
where my exploration of alien intentions

has escalated
from attacks on cattle in Oregon

to one of the most dangerous
UFO encounters of all time,

the Colares event,

where hundreds of people
were reportedly attacked by UFOs

in the late '70s,
and activity has recently ramped up.

This is not travel for the timid here.

You can't just jump
on a plane from Las Vegas

to the middle of the Amazonian jungle.

This is where these things happen.

You gotta come down here and speak

to the people
who've been experiencing this.

- Have you been to Brazil before?
- [Armour] Never.

- [Knapp] I know you've traveled.
- This is my first time.

[Knapp] The plan is to meet up
with Brazilian UFO expert

Thiago Tecchetti...

- How are you?
- Hey. Great to meet you.

- This is Vee.
- Nice to meet you.

[Knapp] ...get on a series of ferries,
and head up the river

to where there have been recent sightings

that may provide clues
for why these attacks occurred.

Our destination is a small town
on the Tocantins River called Barcarena.

Thiago and his associate Nathan
have made contact

with a local here named Jhonny...

George. Pleased to meet you.

...who's reportedly been witnessing
this activity on a regular basis.

So, how recently have you seen it?

[Tecchetti interpreting in Portuguese]

[in Portuguese] A few weeks ago,
I witnessed a fireball in the sky

that made a sharp turn.

Fortunately, I had my cell phone
and was able to film the fireball.

[Tecchetti in English]
He got it on phone. The film.

He filmed it?

He filmed it. Yeah.

Do you have that?

- [Armour] We gotta see that.
- Yeah.

Let's see it.

[intense, rhythmic music playing]

[Jhonny] I would have thought
it could have been a meteor or an aircraft

if it'd gone in a straight line,
but it made a sharp turn.

It came in my direction,
but it made a 90-degree turn.

That's impossible.

It disappears.

[intense music subsides]

[in English] You seen this before?

- [in Portuguese] Seen this before?
- Yes.

Here, on the island.

I was also able to photograph it
a little while ago.

I came across an object
floating right above my head.

[Armour in English] Can we see it?

[Jhonny in Portuguese] Yes.

This is the object
I was able to photograph.

I photographed it in the morning.

I was in the forest taking pictures
of small animals, here on the island.

I was photographing small animals,

and I came across this object
floating above the middle of the field.

I confess that the moment
I was able to take the photo...

As soon as I took the photo,
I got scared and fled the place.

And these marks here...

[in English] A long time ago,

before there were crop circles,
they called them saucer nests.

[Tecchetti] Yes.

They appeared in Australia,
New Zealand, and other parts of the world.

That's very strange.

- You didn't see this being made?
- No.

There are other witnesses as well?

[in Portuguese] Are there others
who saw these balls?

Yes. About...
Of the population of the island,

about 50% have already witnessed
this phenomenon.

[Knapp in English] The best cases are
where there are multiple witnesses.

Better still are those
that have photos or video.

Better still, are the ones
that have photos, videos, witnesses,

and then physical evidence
where a saucer might have sat down.

It is information
that you could collate into a theory.

Are the people who seem them frightened,
or it's just a normal part of living here?

[in Portuguese] No, all the people,
all who reside here on the island...

All the residents of the island,
excuse me.

[in English] People that have had injuries
or, um, have been hurt in some way?

- [Tecchetti in Portuguese] By lights?
- No.

Uh, it's just... If they come close,
if they come close to us,

I believe that everyone
who faces this situation runs in fear.

[interpreter in English] They get close,
and when they get close, they run away.

In Barcarena, things came out of the sky,
scared people to death.

They scattered and got away.

Colares is its own kettle of fish.
These people were attacked.

So nobody got hurt here.

We're trying to figure out
why they're visiting.

- That's our main mission.
- [Armour] Right. What's their intent?

So is there something special
about this place,

where they would come here all the time?

[in Portuguese] Since this is an island,
and water is an energy conductor...

Uh, since this is an island,
and it is surrounded by water,

it is easy for them to land
or come to visit us.

- [thunder rumbles]
- [unsettling music playing]

[in English] Let me ask you
about that video.

From an aviation perspective,
what could it have been other than a UFO?

- Meteor? Plane?
- [Armour] I was thinking about that.

So a meteor is obviously gonna have
some movement

and a little bit of a trail
if we could see it.

It didn't look like a plane
because the fire, if you will,

encompassed the whole thing,
and you didn't see

anything in front of it.

Plus, it was just this round,
orangish glow.

And it sat there.

- And it sat there.
- Before it moved.

[Armour] But the velocity,

the speed at which it would change
directions and then just disappear,

airplane can't do that, right?

Now, a flare would be the closest thing.
But a flare, when it shoots out...

[flare sizzles]

...it's like... [imitates sizzling]

And out of the gun, it swoops up,
comes down, you see a little trail.

There was none of that with this.
It was kind of hovering there.

[Knapp] Yeah, it sat there long enough
for Jhonny to get his phone and record it.

And then it started moving.
That's no flare I've ever heard of.

Correct. It moved straight out.

And it's almost like it just rode out
into the sunset and... [imitates sizzle]

And went out.

So much of what you heard today is unique.

I mean, A, that half of the people
who live here have seen these things,

that there is video and photos...

They can't figure out
why we're seeing 'em,

but it's pretty clear
this was a physical event.

And it's ongoing activity
over a very long period of time,

including up to the present day.

Why are there UFO hotspots?

Why do these things return
to the same places again and again,

sometimes over many years' time?
Is there a portal?

Some kind of... a highway system
that they use as an exit and an entrance?

Maybe they're interested
in particular people

that they're tracing
over a long period of time.

Maybe there are resources
in those particular areas

that are of interest to them.

We don't know. Uh, they're not telling us.

We can only guess based on how
we might react in the same situations.

[Armour] But is this connected
to what happened in Colares?

[Knapp] Half of the people here
have seen these things.

It's amazing that that many people
in a place like this would see 'em.

Right. But nobody got attacked here.

This wasn't hostile.
Maybe there is more than one agenda.

If we're gonna understand
why the Colares attacks happened,

we're gonna need to head
back downriver to find out

what the original witnesses and victims
experienced during that terrifying event.

It all started in April of 1977,

when villagers in a small island town
in the Brazilian Amazon

began reporting sightings
of lights in the sky

that were seemingly attacking people
on the ground.

The Brazilian Air Force went to the scene.

They were there for months,
interrogating witnesses,

collecting information,

studying, uh, the locations
where these things happened.

The people in Colares
were scared to death.

Hundreds of 'em got out of Dodge.

They were frightened
by what was happening. They left.

And most of them never spoke publicly
about what happened.

Many relocated
to the state capital, Belém,

where they tried to move on
with their lives.

Like so many other UFO witnesses
around the world,

they were treated like crap.
No one believed 'em.

[somber music playing]

[Knapp] I think
I'm a pretty decent reporter.

I have a way to get people to open up.
I... I work at it.

Trying to talk people into discussing
something they don't want to talk about,

there's a finesse involved there,
and it's served me well.

I can't tell you how excited I am
about having this opportunity.

- Thanks for setting it in motion.
- It's a pleasure.

You know, she's like a symbol.

That photo went all over the world.
I've been reading about it for 30 years.

And we finally get a chance
to speak directly,

not with just a witness but the witness.

[Tecchetti] Yes.

[Knapp] There's one person
who's the face of the whole incident.

That's Aurora.

She suffered very distinct injuries.

She is, in effect, the embodiment
of the Colares incident in one person.

But she firmly refused to discuss
what happened to her

for more than 40 years.

- Thank you.
- [Tecchetti] George, after you.

[Knapp] We do know people were harmed,
that there were serious injuries.

But we don't know really
what the intent was.

Was it a hostile attack,
or is something else going on here?

Can you take us back to that day,

where you were,
what you saw, and what happened?

[Tecchetti in Portuguese]
Take us back to 1977.

Tell us where you were
and everything that happened--

- [Aurora] Yes. I was 18 years old.
- Go ahead.

There was...
I don't know if it's still there.

There was a huge chestnut tree. Very tall.

I was washing the dishes,

and I suddenly saw this bright light
above the chestnut tree.

It was above the nut tree.

I saw very clearly
that the thing was rotating.

Like this, rotating.

[in English] So a disc-shaped object

with lights, changing colors,
rotating around?

[Tecchetti in Portuguese]
Disc-shaped object, with lights around it.

- Yes.
- [Tecchetti] A light ray hit you?

[Aurora] It hit me. Yes.

When I saw that machine
above the chestnut tree, I stood there.

When I saw that ray on me,
I was terrified.

I looked up, and I could see that red ray
when it hit my chest.

That thing felt like a needle,
like something was piercing me.

I felt a puncture from a needle. you know?

That's how it felt.
Like a puncture from a needle.

- [Tecchetti in English] She felt a needle.
- Ah.

[in Portuguese] When it hit my chest,
I felt this burning.

And with that burning,
I could smell ether.

[Knapp in English] Every UFO case,

you're looking for physical manifestations
that are measurable.

And smell is one of 'em.

Powerful smells have been reported

pretty much everywhere
there's been UFO activity.

People say it smelled metallic
or electrical.

There are some cases where people
have been taken on ships

for medical procedures,

where it smells antiseptic,
like a hospital.

Others have said
there are powerful floral, uh, scents,

as if it was piped in to calm them down.

When the doctors looked at the injury,
um, how did they react?

[in Portuguese] He smelled it too.

When he examined me,
he told me he also could smell liquid.

There were three holes.
There were three holes in my breast.

[in English] Do you still have
evidence of this?

Is it still visible?

[Tecchetti in Portuguese]
Still have the mark?

Faintly. Here, on my breast.

- [Tecchetti in English] Ah. A little.
- Yeah.

[in Portuguese] It wasn't just me, no.
There are many others in Jurunas.

[Knapp in English] What is special about
what happened to you and Colares is,

it is unusual
in the whole history of the UFO subject

for these things to attack humans.

We don't understand why it happened here.
What was going on?

[in Portuguese] Look, I don't know.

I don't know what to tell you.
Why they were attacking.

People were saying in the street,
"Do you think it was to take blood?"

[Knapp in English] It's very similar
to what has been reported

in cattle mutilation cases,

where something from out of the sky
comes out and carves 'em up

and takes samples
of different parts of the blood and body.

It's an advanced civilization of some sort
that has technology that we don't have,

imposing its will
on a lesser civilization,

which in this case is us.

But so far, it's just a theory.

We need more information
to fill in the blanks about what this was.

[intense, rhythmic music playing]

[Armour] The local investigator
in the Belém area

connected us with a woman named Laura

who also has a story about being attacked
from lights in the sky.

So I want to find out exactly
what her story is

and how closely it lines up with the story
that George is getting from across town.

[in Portuguese] Where I used to live.

[in English] This is where I used to live.

[Tecchetti in Portuguese] How often...

Have you returned here
before we asked you today?

Or did you never come back?

[Laura] No, I've never come back here.

[Armour in English] I am skeptical.

Was it necessarily aliens?

Was it something else in the jungle?

It's possible
that there are other explanations.

So what happened here?

[in Portuguese] It was a starry night.
It was beautiful.

And I was just looking at it, you know.

As I was looking, I saw what I thought
was a shooting star. A very bright light.

But it came in my direction, you know.
And it shone onto me, here.

And it hurt.

[in English] What did it feel like
when it hit your chest?

[in Portuguese] As if I had been burned.

It was scary. And as I told you,
I went in right away because it hurt me.

[in English] When it came closer to you,
what did the light look like?

Was it white or red or a different color?

[in Portuguese] White.
It was a white light.

[in English] Did you see it come down
and hit you in the chest?

Or did you only feel heat?

[in Portuguese] No, it came towards me
and hit me.

It came as if it were falling,
you understand?

And it hit me,
and I felt the impact of it.

No, there's a mark here. A mark.

[in English] Can I see it?

There's two marks.

Wow. [inhales sharply]

I could just feel it in that moment

how much this has impacted her,
impacted her family.

Like, enough to leave her home.
Um, to still be impacted to this day.

I just wonder
if her injuries were intentional,

or if she was just in the wrong place
at the wrong time.

[energetic music playing]

When I first heard the story of Aurora
and the other people at Colares,

it sounded like these crafts
were shooting laser beams at them.

And yeah, there is...
there is a beam of light.

But inside that, the way she described it,

was some kind of filament and a hook

that stuck in her chest
and then took samples.

It's not just a... a blind attack.

[Armour] It's very similar to Laura.

She saw this light beam come down,

and it actually burned her on the chest
and left a "V" mark right here.

I could still see it.

She couldn't see the craft itself,
just the light. No... no sound.

And the only thing she remembers
is that light and getting burned.

Was she just a little kid at Colares
when that stuff went down?

[Armour] In Colares originally, yes. Yeah.

She was attacked as an adult.

This is decades later. After Colares.

What stands out to me is,
that this is still happening.

[softly] Wow. That's pretty weird.
I didn't know about this.

So we're aware that there is
new UFO activity in this area.

What we've always heard is these attacks
that started in 1977 were over,

essentially, by 1978,
which is when Operation Prato had ended.

You know, what do you do
with a witness story like that

that is so strange?

Can it be corroborated somehow?

When I was a police officer, we had to be
very careful about witness statements.

- [Knapp] Sure.
- Because the memory is fallible, right?

My experience is when people...

when you get 'em
to open up about something like this,

they're telling you the truth
as they know it.

- Right.
- But it doesn't mean it's the truth.

One more person that...
Thiago is helping us set this up.

It's a journalist, Carlos Mendes.

He was there while the Brazilian Air Force
investigation was underway.

So he saw what they were doing,
who they were talking to,

the kind of information
they were gathering.

As a newsman, I'm hoping we... Even though
we don't speak the same language,

we do speak the same language.

[energetic music fades]

[indistinct chatter]

[Knapp] Look, following this story now
is hard enough, let alone back then.

Brazil was run by a military dictatorship
at the time who just shut it down.

"There's nothing to see here, folks.
It's crazy stuff. There's nothing to it."

"Move along."

Most of the journalists
in Brazil at the time

took the Air Force's word for it.

Carlos did not.

Carlos, George Knapp.
Very nice to meet you.

Carlos Mendes pursued the story
as it was happening.

And he's been following the story
ever since.

Vee and I are working to get
the full story of how many people saw it,

how many people were injured,
and over what kind of an area.

[in Portuguese] In around
20 municipalities in the state of Pará...

[Tecchetti] 20 cities.

...the reports are very similar

from people who lived 300, 400 km apart
and had never met.

[in English] Over how long?

[in Portuguese] How long did it last?

The investigation lasted

from June 1977 to August 1978.

It lasted more than a year and a half.

The official story is

the Brazilian Air Force investigated
the Colares incidents

for about four months,
and then it all went away.

Carlos is telling us that is not accurate,

that the actual investigation
went on much longer.

Talk to us about the Brazilian
military investigation,

what you saw,
and what you were able to report.

Were they open about it?

[in Portuguese] It was
a tense relationship.

And they were very intimidating.

I had a tense discussion
with Captain Hollanda.

He tried to expel me from Colares Island.

"That isn't something for a journalist."

[Knapp] Captain Uyrangê Hollanda

was the Brazilian Air Force commander
in charge of Operation Prato,

which translates to
"the Plate" or "Saucer Operation."

As a representative
of Brazil's military dictatorship,

Captain Hollanda
would have been under strict orders

to control what news made it out.

He wouldn't say anything
about his own experiences until 1997,

when he finally spoke
to some UFO researchers about what he saw.

[in Portuguese] It had
an erratic flight path.

It didn't fly in a straight line.

It flew as if it were swinging.

[interviewer] Was that documented?
Photographed?

[Hollanda] It was. And filmed too.

[Knapp in English] Three months
after this interview, he hung himself.

The Brazilian Air Force
compiled this gigantic report.

I know some of it, a lot of stuff,

went to the United States
'cause I have seen it.

After the dictatorship fell,
the Brazilian Air Force turned over

a treasure trove of information
about the Colares incidents.

A lot of that information was transferred
from the Brazilian government

to the US government,
to the Defense Intelligence Agency.

I've seen some of those files.

Not one page of that has been released.

Do you believe
that they actually gave away everything

and didn't keep copies of film
and photos or anything?

[in Portuguese] They took
the most important things.

The main events.

Sixteen hours of footage from 32 days
of investigation by the military.

[in English] Who's "they"? Who took it?
Who are "they," do you know?

CIA.

[dramatic stinger]

I've heard this rumor before
that there is film footage

or video of dramatic UFO incursions
in and around Colares.

And that this footage found its way
to the United States.

But what exactly was recorded?

Why does this evidence remain hidden
to this day?

And what else
did the Brazilian military witness

during their 15-month-long investigation?

[intense music playing]

[Knapp] I'm hoping we can find
some answers on the island

where the Brazilian
Air Force conducted its operation.

How much of the Brazilian Air Force stuff
have you read?

Around 1,000 pages.

- A thousand pages?
- Yes.

And that's an official document?

There are hundreds of pages
of official documents,

photos and drawings and testimonies.

WELCOME TO COLARES

I called somebody on the way here
that works for an agency.

And I asked, "Where's the film? I keep
hearing about hundreds of hours of film."

He said,
"Somebody from the US snatched it."

"An agency that has three letters.
You can guess."

I know because another three-letter agency
tried to get it from 'em,

and they were told no.

Do you have any military contacts
that I can talk to?

- 'Cause they're probably out by now.
- They're not trying to talk to us.

[Armour] The military is structured.

And you just don't color
outside the lines.

But I'm hoping there's someone
out there that we can find

that is willing and able to talk
about the military operation firsthand.

[Knapp] And right out here,
that's where the UFOs were in and out?

[Tecchetti] Yeah.
We are at the ground zero.

[Knapp] So Operation Prato
was based here as well?

Yeah. The military used this beach
and the island over there as a base.

[Knapp] So if I was here
in 1977 on this beach,

what would I have seen
coming in and out of the water?

What did they see?

[Tecchetti] Hundreds of UFOs
in different shapes.

You can see orbs, disk shapes.

The military, they were based in there

to see the UFOs coming in and coming out
from the water and cross through the city,

so they can investigate what was going on.

[Knapp] The massive military response
in Brazil was unusual,

but not without precedent.

In the US, during the Second World War,

Los Angeles experienced what appeared
to be a full-blown aerial barrage of UFOs,

known as the Battle of Los Angeles.

It led the US military
to mobilize antiaircraft artillery

that lit up the skies over Hollywood.

And after an unusual craft
dubbed the Petrozavodsk Jellyfish

buzzed over a lakeside village
in the Soviet Union,

the Kremlin launched
a massive state investigation

into the phenomenon
that would span more than 20 years.

So if they were looking to provoke
a response to see how we'd react,

it worked.

[Knapp] People will say,
"These are simple people."

"They're villagers. They were fooled.
It was some kind of military technology,

or they misunderstood
a natural phenomenon."

What do you say to that?

[Tecchetti] Well, we don't have
this technology today.

How we can have
this technology back in 1977?

[dramatic music playing]

I LOVE COLARES

[Armour] After asking around
to some of the contacts we've made,

I was able to get
the name of a boat captain.

- [in Portuguese] Hi.
- Hi.

[in English] Can we talk?

- [interpreter in Portuguese] Can we talk?
- Yes.

[Armour in English] He was ferrying
military officials to the island

where they had their operations set up
during the attacks.

What was the mood like out here at first?
Were they scared or apprehensive?

[De Oliveira speaking Portuguese]

[Valéria] One of the captains
that were with us on the mission,

he said that there was no danger.
It was fine.

But after two weeks,
we started taking guns with us,

and they would even give a gun to me.

[Armour] As someone who's been in combat
and had civilians around them in combat,

we only arm civilians
in the most desperate situations.

Clearly, there was a fear
for their safety.

There was an uneasiness.

So what happened that freaked them out

or scared them enough
to give a boat captain,

a civilian who has no arms training,
a weapon?

So, who all was on the boat with you

when you were going out there
for that long?

[Valéria in Portuguese] Who was with you?

There were five of us.

Hollanda, Luciana,
and two others whose names I forgot.

One was a scientist. It was Luciano.

[Armour in English] Wow.
Did any happen to be American?

[in Portuguese] I believe so.
All of them were military.

[Armour in English] Did they have cameras?

[De Oliveira in Portuguese]
When they set it up,

we could only see light.

But looking on the monitor,
we could see their shapes.

[in English] What did the shapes
look like?

[De Oliveira in Portuguese]
They were shaped like a crab trap.

A crab trap is shaped like a hat.
Like a plate.

They were all saying
that it was a spaceship.

[tense music playing]

- [music subsides]
- [in English] Were you scared?

[in Portuguese]
It gave me a strange feeling.

Sometimes, when I got home,
I'd have, like, a headache.

[in English] Oh wow.
What was the American doing?

[Valéria] What was the American doing?

[in Portuguese] He worked
with the monitor,

with the people who came in the light.

They didn't understand their voices.

The sound was unclear...

[imitating gibberish sound]

All unclear like that.

[in English] Did it sound like language
or just sounds?

[in Portuguese] It was
like a language, yes.

[Armour in English] So you heard this?

[De Oliveira] I heard it.

[Armour] Did anyone ask you not
to say anything about what you saw?

[in Portuguese] In the final days,
we were working, and he asked me...

He said he was going,

and many people would come
to my house to interview me,

but I shouldn't talk to anyone.

[Armour] All right. Let's head back.

So clearly, there was a lot going on.
There was a huge military presence.

I mean, they were conducting
this operation for six months

out on that island.

Why was the investigation abruptly ended?

Where's the video?
Rosil said there was a recording.

I'm wondering if George has a contact
where we could get our hands on it.

[Knapp] How did your morning go?

From what the boat captain said,

some of the things he confirmed,
he was taking people out to the island,

but it was not just Brazilian.

There was an American.

We had all the suspicions
that Americans were here.

The fact that Americans were there

during the Brazilian
Air Force investigation of these,

uh, tumultuous events
in Colares is telling.

It confirms a lot of suspicions

about our US government's involvement
in this on a global scale.

He said a couple weeks into the operation,
they started taking guns.

And the kicker is,
they gave the boat captain a gun.

Military guys gave him a gun?

Gave the boat captain a gun.

That says a lot. They took this seriously.
That it was considered a threat.

And they were trying to communicate
back and forth.

The guys who are with him on this boat
are trying to communicate

with whatever other language
that's being spoken.

Meaning some kind of language
that doesn't sound human?

[Armour] Correct.
He remembered what it sounded like.

- Man, I...
- That... Yeah, I'd never heard that before.

A couple things occurred to me.
I know we regard Colares as long ago,

something from ancient history.
It's not ancient history.

Some of the same kind of activity
continues to this day with a lot of it,

then and now,
often happening around water.

As far as why, the people here think
it had to do with research or sampling.

It's possible
the injuries weren't intentional,

just a side effect of this operation.

But what also struck me
is what Vee learned from the boat captain.

That in the midst of all
that was going on,

it seems like there was an attempt
at communication between us and them.

WELCOME TO COLARES

The biggest questions are,
what was the purpose of the message?

What was recorded? And who got it?

I know that the three-letter agency
that I know

asked the other three-letter agency
what they've got,

and they shut the door in their face.

Somebody's got footage.
Somebody's got documents.

Somebody's got audio recordings.

I'm gonna make some phone calls,
ask some people

who should know where it is,
to see if they can make any progress.

The more we can bring out of the shadows
and into the public,

the fuller our view gets,
and the closer we get to answers.

[Knapp] Before I left Brazil,

I was able to get in touch
with one of the few government insiders

who are willing to discuss what
they know about UFOs, Christopher Mellon.

[intense music playing]

Chris Mellon and I
have been in communication

for the past five and a half, six years.

He spent ten years on Capitol Hill.

He worked, uh,
directly as a senior staffer

for Senate Intelligence
and Armed Services.

So he was privy
to a lot of really sensitive information.

Chris has been an essential player.

But the public knows very little
about what he does

because almost everything he's done
is behind the scenes, in the shadows.

I am absolutely certain
that Chris Mellon knows way more

about the UFO topic
than he's been allowed to say.

I know he's sat in on closed-door,
on-the-record, under-oath briefings.

I know for a fact he's had access

to some very, uh, highly classified
and sensitive documents and materials.

[Knapp] In Brazil,

we heard the Brazilian Air Force
seized or recorded film footage

of UFOs coming in and out of the water.

And that some of that stuff
ended up in the US.

But nobody knows where we can find it.

And now, you've...
you've had better contacts than I've had.

Is there somebody that knows?

Even the most knowledgeable
supposed insiders

claimed that it was a mystery to them.

But there were some injuries
that seemed to have been

not just adjacent to the craft,
but on purpose.

[Mellon] Just as we use light
to collect data

on distant planets and so forth,

they're using a light beam,
perhaps, to, uh, gauge the chemistry,

biology of the target.

So you also think
it has to do with sampling?

So, that's what it appeared to be.

Many of these accounts do look
like somebody conducting research

or sampling or taking inventory.

Chris Mellon, with all the knowledge
he has from the inside,

agrees with our idea

that what happened at Colares
was a sampling operation.

This isn't just from witnesses

who had this terrifying experience
back in the 1970s.

This is from a former high-ranking
intelligence official of our government.

We didn't even talk about this,
but back to the Tic Tac case...

So Dave Fravor had said

it looked like that object,
that Tic Tac, was zipping around

trying to interact
with something that was under the water.

We heard about craft coming in and out
of the water in Brazil as well.

You think there's
some credibility to that?

So absolutely, there's a lot of activity.

And our Navy absolutely has encountered
some anomalous things underwater.

We certainly do have valid cases
from nuclear subs,

where they've detected
very anomalous things underwater.

And that's most of the planet's surface,
and it would be the perfect place to hide.

is covered by oceans.

If you were from somewhere else,

and you wanted to stay away
from prying human eyes,

you might hide there.

The suggestion from Chris Mellon,

is the mystery of why they're here

might be solved
by going down into the oceans.

I'm gonna keep working sources to find
that missing film footage from Colares

because I believe it holds vital clues

about the connection
between UFOs and the water.

But something just came up back at home
that needs my immediate attention.

There's another UFO researcher
I work with sometimes, Jeremy Corbell.

We get sent a lot of videos.

This was recorded

at an American military base
in the Middle East,

uh, by security personnel.

Inside this base is another base.

A... an intelligence agency,

a three-letter agency,
has a base inside as well.

So this thing floats
through this base at night.

Security people are tracking it on camera.

You can't really see it.
They've got a thermal image of it.

And it's the strangest,
creepiest UFO I've ever seen.

[Knapp] So, it's a thermal image.
Uh, you couldn't see it with your eyes.

It changes its temperature
a couple of times

as it floats
through this very secure base.

I mean, it looks like a jellyfish.

This video was not approved for release
by any government authority.

We've been keeping it to ourselves

because we want to protect the people
who have helped us get the information.

They wanted to share it with the public.
They thought we could be trusted

to do the right thing with it,
to put it out in a way

that wouldn't get the sources in trouble.

I'm a little nervous about it.
I mean, you don't know for sure

how ticked off people in high places
might be after we make this public.

I need to know if there are
any potential landmines for the source

that I might not be aware of.

would you have to report it to CIA?

I mean, no,
I'm not obligated to do anything

Well, there's no marking on it
that indicates it's classified.

So as a journalist, I'm trying to decide,

is it worth the risks
that come from making it public?

If it was taken on any CIA property,

it is their property.

So if they want to make it secret,
top secret, eyes only,

restricted handling,
whatever they want to do, it's up to them.

It's not up to a civilian to determine
the classification of anything. So...

Does this make sense
that there would be a black site

within a military base in the Middle East?

Yeah.

Well, protecting the source

You only have to burn a source once,
and then you're done. You're toast.

The word gets out
that you can't be trusted,

people are not gonna
share information with you.

That which you possess has nothing,
no blowback on you.

About, again, protecting the source
from themselves.

They need to know
what they're getting themselves into.

this footage needs to get out.

There's a new video that is sending
shockwaves throughout the UFO community.

This footage was reportedly taken
at a US joint operations base in Iraq,

showing what appears to be
this jellyfish flying through the air.

We released that jellyfish video,
and it was kind of an explosion.

I mean, it went
all over the world pretty quickly.
