straightforward attitude

a whole army of people guarded him,

In July 1943, with his armies
defeated in North Africa and Sicily,

on the side of this mountain

Mussolini lived in Gargnano,

wanted the same status as Hitler,

He dreamt of one day returning

and had made extensive preparations
for it, with Hitler's blessing.

would be a very good place

was the Pope.

targeted the labyrinth of tunnels

beneath Monte Soratte, in
the ridge of hills overlooking Rome.
