But to people you don't fit so well with,
I'd say, "Just cut them off."

I really do.

Because there are many good people
in the world.

More people you meet, more good
people you'll find.

Also, "Listen to your parents."

But I'd say...

You may not fit so well
with your parents, either!

For example, my mom once told me this...

"Never buy a car."

"You get a car, maybe you'll get in
an accident, and won't be able to marry."

If I listened to her then, I'd still
not own a car even at this point.

It was like finding clear water
to drink in the mountains.

No matter where you are, no matter
whom you meet,

find things to learn from them
for yourself.

that's right for you along the way.

At a young age like yours,

you need to have many different
types of experiences.

Have a lot of fun.

No matter what it is,
give it all you got.

Then one day, you'll find yourself
a person who's absolutely needed.

A person who has to be there

in school clubs,

absolutely needed at work,

It was my dream before.

But not anymore.

My parents were against it.

to every advice!

There are so many good singers
in the world, and I started to feel

unsure about myself.

I wasn't considered a talented
singer when I started.

My voice would go out
so easily, just after a couple of songs.

I had almost given up on singing.

But I kept practicing, I'd pick a CD and
learn how to sing every track in it.

I studied singing that way.

I really gave it all I got, and I started
to develop a new way of singing.

I think it takes a lot of effort.

Effort was a friend that never
betrayed me.

I'd say, go ahead and keep trying.

I think trying it very important.

Rather than giving up because someone
told you to, or because you just felt like

you're not good enough,

you actually have to get over that
for you to be successful.

If you think too much, you can't
start on anything.

Life is longer than you think.

I used to look at women in their 30s,
40s, working, and I'd think, "Why?"

Now that I'm past 40, I realize
that 40 is actually really young.

You're barely 20.

There's nothing you can't achieve.

Try everything you want to do,
and if it doesn't work out,

move on to the next one.

Even after trying a few different roads,
you'd probably haven't hit 30 yet.

Try it all.

I think you should try everything, if it's
about achieving your dream.

I guess you're a comedian now.

How did you overcome your fears?

Earlier, to the student who wanted to be
a singer, Sook said for her to

try everything.

Because you're still young.

If I can continue on from there about
overcoming fears...

After I became a little famous
in Korea as a TV personality,

I decided to go to Paris and live there.

I'd be a new model there, and I
might never make it as a runway model.

But I wanted to try being
a fashion model once again.

I was making a decent amount
of money in Korea already.

And when I went to Paris
out of the blue,

I wanted it to be a new challenge for me
to take on the world as a model.

And I was very scared.

Many Korean models who'd go overseas
were already popular, and things were

already set up for them.

And the result wasn't so good for me.

I ended up just wasting money and time
from that challenge.

But with all honesty, it was a very
valuable experience for me.

If I hadn't gone, I think it would've
stayed in my mind for the rest of my life.

"I should've took on that challenge then."

"I would've been very successful."

I think I'd always have
these regrets.

Now, I have no desire to try
in that field at all.

I tried it, and it didn't work out.

So I was able to move forward in my life
without every looking back.

Even if it's to not have any regrets
and not look back,

it's worth trying, even if it
means you fail in that attempt.

That was the same for guys.

There were guys I felt like if I didn't
go for them then, I'd regret it later.

So I'd go for guys I liked, rather than
regretting it later.

So I tried.

But it didn't work out.

Then I won't have any regrets, and
I'll move on.

Don't just be scared, but try it!
If it doesn't work out, that's fine too.

Whether it's about dating,
work, studying, dream...

take courage and take on the challenge
with that mentality.

I had a dream in high school.

It was my dream to be a movie actress.

But finding your dream early
isn't always a good thing.

I had a definite dream, but it
wouldn't come true.

I considered myself very unlucky.

How early your dream comes true
has nothing to do with happiness.

And you never know when you'll find out
what makes you the most happy, and

what kind of dream you'll have.

So keep hoping, and live for tomorrow.

For me too, I never really had something
I wanted to be when I was younger.

I didn't have anything that I really liked
when I was in school.

It was coincidence that I came to
Korea to visit then became an actress.

But a person can have an unexpected
chance, so it's important to try

a variety of different things.

Over time, you'll be able to find
what you like, and find your dream.

Like I did!

I want to tell you that it's not strange
to not have a goal.

Every person is different.

Some can have set dreams early
in their life.

Some people find their dreams
when they are in their 40s and 50s.

When I became a comedian,

I was 20.

I won the silver-prize from a college
comedy contest, I was third.

So I became a comedian at an early
age, but it wasn't what I intended.

But I became a comedian because
the person next to me was good.

I had no sense of wanting it
desperately.

If I'm given a role, I'd do it.
If not, then that was fine too.

I spent 7, 8 years as an
unknown comedian.

I won that silver-prize from KBS.

Later I ended up having a goal,

"Let me win an award from this
station before I quit."

I ended up being determined to
do that.

And I won an award just last year.

So it took me 22 years to
achieve that dream.

It's not important to set a goal and a
dream at this moment,

it's more important to find out
what makes you happy.

It's important to be not shaken and
keep walking your own path.

"I get very nervous to speak in front
of people. How did you get so good at it?"
