to sell the Boaventura PLC to the Santamaria Group,

Spain�s largest financial group, which will thus conquer an important share

of the Portuguese banking market.

to explain the measures to be taken by the Government in this situation

that we did not create and for which we are not responsible.

...The Portuguese Government has decided to give instructions

to the Bank of Portugal to veto the deal established

between Mr. Alexandre Boaventura and the Santamaria Group,

given that this deal stands in clear breach of the agreements

established between the Government and Mr. Boaventura...
