in this territory in millennia.

This is the only place on earth

where you can see a spirit bear.

Yet bear and wolf
habitat are not respected

in a world where oil tankers
would destroy estuaries

and spawning grounds that bears
and wolves need to survive.

I had many things that my uncle
wanted me to share with you

from his vast knowledge
of our territory.

But I'm not gonna do that.

I'm not gonna do that
because I am just a kid

who grew up in the city.

But I'm proud that
I come from here.

My traditional
name is Sisi-kwaka.

It means that traditional way

that women would
pick blueberries.

I thought that I would
live up to my name

and live off the land, but I
didn't find a single berry.

I did find this trade bead.

It tells me I stand where
my ancestors once stood.

And it reminds me that
my future and time itself

are in the direct path

of where the proposed
tanker route lies.

It would only take one
moment and one oil spill

to take away my chance
to know my territory

the way that my uncles do.

I was in a hurry to get
here, but I need a lifetime.

An oil spill on
the inside passage

of the Great Bear Rainforest

would disturb the
final resting place

of my late uncle David Ellis,

Together, my family and I
