so I thought maybe if I got it for you,

it would make it a little easier for you.

- Well, let me tell you,

I have vastly improved my cooking skills

over the years. - Oh, really?

- Yeah, really.

- [Georgia] Mmhmm.

- Absolutely.

- [Georgia] How so?

Did you make anything special lately?

- Why, yes, I did.

- [Georgia] Oh?

- Uh-huh.

- [Georgia] Mmhmm.

- I had my wonderful girlfriend over

and I made a very delicious meal.

- [Georgia] Ooh.

- And it was absolutely, fantastically horrible

'cause it burnt.

(Georgia laughs)

Yeah, I got an A for effort,

but, man, execution was like an F.

- (sighs) At least you tried.

(laughs) Nailed it.

- [William] Oh, yeah, we sure nailed it.

(Georgia laughs)

Alright, you know...

Hmm, I tell you,

Mom cooked.

I mean, she, she was amazing. - Yeah.

- [William] You know?

You would think after all those years

I could glean something from the brilliance

of what she could just whip up,

but apparently I just don't have that skill-set.

I don't know.

So we just did the leftovers and, you know,

she forgave me.

At least I didn't poison her,

so that's something.

- (laughs) Yeah, she's still here.

- Yeah, she's still here.

She's still kicking around.

(Georgia laughs)

I like her, pickles.

Yeah, it's- - I can't wait to meet her.

- I do too. I do too.

It's been, um,

it's been a good six months so, you know,

I appreciate you helping me through that.

- Of course.

All the best things in life start out as scary, you know?

- Yeah,

like you, you know, taking the trip down to Florida,

just, you know, facing your fear.

Well, I don't think you ever really been scared.

I mean, when you were a kid, you were fearless.

You just went head-on, 100%.

Just whatever you wanted to do,

bam, you just did it.

So what's the plan for Christmas,

besides these amazing gifts that I've given you?

- [Georgia] (giggles) You're welcome.

Well, actually I just got a notification, like, last night

that there's, like, a surge in prices

and there's all these people, high demand, wanting rides.

So I don't know,

I thought I'd pick up a couple of people

and make a couple extra bucks.

- Really? - Be Santa's sleigh.

- [William] What, you wanna work today?

- Yeah.

- [William] I mean,

this is supposed to be, like, everyone's day off.

Like, the one day.

- Well, I don't know.

I've always stayed home on Christmas.

I've never really went out.

- [William] Yeah.

- But I don't know.

I already connected with you.

I feel like this is what I do.

I see you,

and then there's nobody else really to hang out with.

So maybe spread some cheer, make some friends,

help some people out.

- [William] Okay.

- [Georgia] Well, it was good to hear from you, Dad.

- It's always good to hear from you, honey.

(Georgia giggles)

I am going to be wearing this all day and-

- [Georgia] It works for you. (laughs)

- I know.

You know, red's my color.

So, yeah, I think I'm gonna be doing some bingeing

and drinking some hot cocoa and relaxing.

And then probably shoveling

because it's always snowing.

and thank all of our police officers,

Oh, this weather is so beautiful.

- Yeah, it's a little toasty. (laughs)

- I can't believe it.

I don't think we've ever been anywhere warm,

really warm for Christmas.

- It doesn't seem like it, no.

- [Georgia] You guys just always in New York,

er, in New Jersey?

- Well, um- - Yeah, all around.

- Don is military and we've been,

I think we've spent Christmas in 10 different places

throughout the years.

- [Georgia] Oh wow.

- Yes.

- Yeah, it's been quite the ride.

Oh, remember Jeremy's first Christmas with Santa? (chuckles)

- We took him to see Santa when he was three months old.

He couldn't really sit up.

And so we put him on Santa's knee,

and Santa's holding him, kind of propping him up.

And he reaches up and gets a hold of Santa's beard

and starts to pull it off. (Georgia laughs)

And everyone in line was just laughing.

And here is Santa trying to hold the baby

and keep his beard on

and it was hysterical. - Trying to look like Santa.

- [Georgia] (giggles) What a nightmare.

- You should see the picture of that one.

(laughs) It's so cool.

We've had some fun times.

We lived in Germany.

- I bet it was like a story book.

I feel like that's where Christmas was invented.

- Beautiful.

It looks just like you would imagine it.

A little village

and the houses are so like fairytale houses.

- [Georgia] Aw.

- [Don] Cobblestone streets.

- Yes, and there's a place called the Marktplatz.

And at Christmas, they have a Kris Kringle mart

and have all the vendors out there

and your toes get all cold,

but you're able to drink Gluhwein,

and that warms you down to your toes.

(Don chuckles)

- [Georgia] Is that hot wine?

- Yes, spiced wine. - Yeah, yeah, spiced wine.

- Very good.

- [Georgia] Oh, okay. (giggles)

- [Nancy] Very good.

Oh, this car is so festive. I love it.

- (laughs) Thank you.

- [Don] Ooh, you'd think it were Christmas or something.

- [Georgia] Right?

- Yes. (Don laughs)

- [Georgia] It's the sleigh today.

- [Nancy] And you have to work on Christmas.

- Well, at least I'm not doing my day job.

I usually have to work with kids.

So I thought maybe I could,

it would be nice to talk to some real adults (laughs)

and help people.

- [Nancy] Yeah, and you could have a party going

all day long with everybody. - There you go. (giggles)

It's nice to talk to adults

and to help people get on their way on Christmas.

- [Don] Oh, that's nice, yeah.

- Yes.

Awesome, so Hanukkah, that's where we're celebrating?

- Yeah, my sister was having a latkes party for-

- Fried potato pancakes, yes.

- [Georgia] Sounds so yummy.

- [Georgia] I'm down with anything potato.

- Right, who doesn't love a good crispy potato?

- [Georgia] So I kind of decked out

in all of my Christmas stuff

so I hope it's okay. - Well, I mean it's Christmas.

So, yeah,

I don't expect, you know, the whole world to,

you know, jump on the wagon. (laughs)

- [Georgia] Maybe I could have one little Star of David.

Just representation would be nice.

- Right. (laughs)

- [Georgia] I didn't even think about that.

Oh, that's awesome.

or, like, it starts today? - Yeah, it's like the,

what is today?

Today's the fourth.

It's the fourth night.

- [Georgia] Oh, so it's, like, halfway.

- So we're halfway, halfway through, yeah.

- [Georgia] Okay.

So it's eight.

Is it, do you get...

Okay, so you get eight days.

- Eight days, mmhmm.

- [Georgia] And do you have parties every day?

- No.

We light the candles every night.

It's the menorah and each night you light a,

light a new candle

until on the eighth night,

all of the candles are burning.

- [Georgia] And it's lit, as the kids would say.

- Yeah, it's lit. (Georgia laughs)

What, what?

- [Georgia] (laughs) That's awesome.

- Say a nice little prayer and strike a match.

- [Georgia] Nice one.

And you get gifts?

- We do, we do, we get gifts. - Right.

- Like, it's nothing, you know, it's not...

But when I was growing up,

my friends used to think it was so cool

that I got gifts, like eight.

"You got, like, eight gifts?"

And I'm like, "Yeah, but, like,

it's socks." - Oh no, that's the worst.

- Or, you know, a new pencil box for school.

It's super practical. - What?

- It's like what you guys get in your stockings,

we just get it spread out over eight nights.

And then maybe on one,

one of the nights,

we get a nice, you know, a bike,

or a, you know, one of the big gifts.

- Oh no, (giggles) okay. - But, yeah, it's not,

it's not the, uh,

the raining, raining presents, like, uh-

- [Georgia] You didn't win the holiday lottery. (laughs)

- No, no, it's not, yeah. (chuckles)

- Do you,

do you guys, like, not like Christmas that much?

- It's, well, so, okay.

Hanukkah is not...

It's like, everybody thinks it's the Jewish Christmas,

but it's, it's, it's not.

- [Georgia] Oh, is it not really like a big deal?

- I mean, it's, you know, it's...

We made it a big deal because...

(Georgia giggles)

So when families were immigrating to the United States,

they saw all the, you know,

all the Christian kids celebrating Christmas.

- [Georgia] Right.

- And the adults, they wanted to assimilate,

they wanted to blend in.

They didn't wanna feel like, you know,

they were any different than anybody else.

So they kind of took Hanukkah

and it kind of became the Jewish Christmas.

- Oh, okay. - So, you know,

so it looked like we were- - It stacks up.

- You know, just as, you know, commercially, you know,

greedy as everybody else. (laughs)

- [Georgia] I mean, it sells.

Like, that's America. (giggles)

- So it's not, yeah, it's not...

But it's a miracle.

It's a miracle holiday,

but it's not like one of the high holidays you call them.

- Right.

- It's a big staple in our relationship.

I look at it as very romantic.

We could've been anywhere. - I mean, we have, like-

We actually just got engaged yesterday, so.

- [Georgia] Really?

- Yeah. - Yeah, Christmas Eve morning.

- [Georgia] Oh, wow. Wow.

- Yeah, yeah.

- [Shannon] Oh, I did this at the wrong time.

(Georgia laughs)

- [Dylan] Yeah, yeah, sorry, sorry.

- It's gorgeous.

- [Dylan] We're actually gonna tell some of our friends...

None of our friends know.

- [Georgia] They don't know?

- No. - No, not yet.

We're gonna surprise them.

- Yeah.

- I don't think they're even suspecting it, to be honest.

You didn't tell anyone?

- No.

No, I mean, I thought we had a pact

that we weren't gonna say anything.

- No, that's true, that's true.

But I mean when you were planning.

But I'm, oh my, I'm so excited.

I can't wait to see their faces.

- I know, I'm excited.

They're gonna be,

they're gonna be shook.

- What if you had a Christmas wedding?

- The only thing that we are indifferent about

for having a Christmas wedding

is that, you know, her family,

both of our families live in different States.

- Yeah. - Oh.

- And we're thinking about the travel expenses

for our families throughout the Christmas season, you know?

- Yeah. - 'Cause I personally

would rather have a non-Christmas themed wedding

and be able to have all of our family there.

You know what I mean?

- No, exactly.

And that's a really good idea.

And, you know,

we could even do like a Christmas in July type thing

if we really wanted to.

That's always fun.

- [Georgia] That would be fun.

- Yeah.

We definitely would be the first to do that. (laughs)

- [Georgia] Absolutely.

- But, um, yeah,

and I really do wanna her family there,

your sister and her kids. - Mmhmm, yeah, well of course.

She's my maid of honor, I have to have her there.

- Yeah, and, um-

- And your mom. - Yeah, my mom.

- Will lose her mind if she can't make it.

- And my 50 cousins. (Georgia laughs)

Like, yeah, family is a big thing in our life so, you know.

We hope to have a big family one day.

- I can't wait to tell everyone tonight.

- Me too, I'm excited.

I'm a little nervous.

(Shannon chuckles)

Are you nervous?

- I mean, of course.

Though, I think they're gonna just yell "finally" at us

more than anything else.

- I think so, yeah, to be honest.

- You know, Florida, theme parks is where it's at.

- Even though I've been to these way too many times.

- Have you been there? - Yes, I love it.

I'm afraid of roller coasters, so we'll see. (laughs)

- Oh no, that's, like, the whole...

- [Robbie] But it's okay,

I told him they have animals here too so, you know.

- Yes, yes, they have animals.

I think there's a water ride.

- [John] Oh, fun. I like water rides.

- [Georgia] Cool.

- [John] Are you from here?

- Yeah.

Well, I'm from here now,

but originally I was from New York.

I moved down a couple years ago.

- [John] Ah, what brought you to this area?

- Well, (laughs)

not to get heavy, but it was a boy.

And needless to say, it did not work out.

I think it was, like,

the move down was a lot of stress

and then it was just us, so,

I mean, a bit of pressure. - Yeah, I guess

when it's just the two of you

and you gotta be each other's best friends and everything.

- [Georgia] Yep.

- [John] And, yeah, it gets a little much.

- [Georgia] No others.

- Is your family all up in New York?

- [Georgia] Yeah, my dad. My dad's up in New York.

- [John] Ah.

- We talk to each other at least once a week,

but, like, it's not the same. (giggles)

- No, no, it's not at all.

- [Robbie] It's better than nothing though.

- [Georgia] It's true, it's true.

At least we're close.

(Georgia sighs)

- [Robbie] We're gonna have some fun today, brother.

I'm telling you right now. - Yeah, I expect so.

- [Robbie] Today's going to be the best trip we've had

in the last five Christmases.

- That's specific. Why five?

- [John] Yeah, well, every year.

- [Robbie] Well, you know, weather

and we had a couple mishaps the past few years, you know,

fun stuff,

nothing, you know, between us. (Georgia giggles)

Just, you know, you know how it goes,

you know, when guys get together and they have too much fun.

- Oh, oh, that's why you got the ride-share.

Okay, got it. (laughs)

- [John] Yeah, that's why we got the ride-share, yeah.

(John and Robbie laugh)

We're meeting, like, 10 of our buddies over here.

- That's a huge group.

- Yeah, yeah. - Yep.

- [John] It used to be bigger, but-

- [Robbie] Yeah, but, you know, life happens.

- [Georgia] Wow.

- [Robbie] You know, sometimes guys can't make it every year

for personal or whatever reason.

- They get married or- - They get married, you know,

moving on with life.

- [Georgia] Yeah,

so are you guys all just like friends, like?

- [John] Yeah.

- Are you all from here? - Yeah, we're dating.

(John and Robbie laugh)

- Oh, oh, I didn't wanna know.

You guys are very manicured and beautiful, so. (laughs)

- [John] (laughs) Oh.

She's really trying to get that tip now. (laughs)

- [Robbie] Yeah, now she is, for sure. (laughs)

We're onto you now.

(Georgia laughs) (John laughs)

No, we've all known each other since college, so yeah.

- Oh, okay. That makes sense.

So are you guys all from Tampa?

- No. - No, from all over.

- He is. - Oh.

- [John] Well, he's in this area.

- Okay. - Yeah.

I will never get used to the cold weather.

(John laughs)

- [Georgia] Right, you're acclimated now.

Your blood is thinner, or whatever needs to happen,

and now you're Floridian.

- Yeah. - Yep.

- [Georgia] Have you always been here, or?

- Originally I'm from Boston.

- [Georgia] Oh, wow, okay, alright.

So, yeah, you definitely adapted

to the Florida climate. (laughs)

- Came down here

and I was like, this is where it's at, you know.

It's a great place to live.

It's like a year round spring break a lot of times.

It's very relaxing, you know?

- [Georgia] It's awesome.

- Yeah, absolutely.

It's not like the Northeast, that's for sure.

The people are friendly.

(Georgia and John laugh)

It's just, you know, it's warm.

You know, it's all about the weather, you know.

I get it, you know.

You know, when you're in that gloomy weather,

when you're in the cold,

it makes life a little bit more difficult.

- [Georgia] Yeah.

So where are you from?

- Me? Oh, all over. - Yeah?

- Gosh, I was born in LA.

My mom's from Germany.

My dad from Philadelphia. - Oh, wow.

- They moved all over, so, yeah.

- [Georgia] That's crazy.

- So I like to adventure and travel, so.

And I like to surf

so I took off and went to Costa Rica one time

and never really came back. (chuckles)

(Georgia giggles)

- [Robbie] I know you've moved, like, four times

since I met you, man.

You never stay put.

- [John] Oh, you know, well,

I don't know, I like change.

with the family, I would think, you know?

- Well, you know, families are different these days.

- There's a lot of big families

and sometimes you got more than one.

- Mine's up North.

- [Georgia] Is that where you're from?

- Yeah, I'm from way up North.

- It's funny being down here and not having any snow

at Christmas time, you know?

- [Georgia] Yeah, it doesn't feel as festive.

I'm from New York,

I stop through there once or twice a year, yeah.

Oh, I'm kind of an ambassador,

- I do a lot of work with the youth and children

and, you know.

- Yep, I enjoy the heck out of it.

I work at a kid's retail store actually.

It's exciting.

It's been a couple of years,

and, you know,

this Christmas, we just wanted it to be really special.

he likes you enough to bring around to family.

I had somebody,

and just our lives didn't line up.

I have my roommates,

even though they're also gone right now.

It's been nice to pick up people

She was supposed to meet my family today for the first time.

I mean, I was so excited

because this is the first time I've had a girlfriend

in probably six years

for Christmas, you know?

- And my family,

they were gonna, like, cook her a special meal,

'cause I told her, you know,

told my mom that she loves stuffed chicken.

So my mom is making a stuffed chicken

for the girlfriend who's not gonna be there.

I mean, what am I supposed to say?

- Yeah, it is kind of awkward.

- [Anna] I mean, what would you say if it were you?

- Well, I would be honest

and hope that, I don't know,

being around the people who love me

would make it feel better.

- Well, Christmas isn't the happiest of times now, is it?

- [Georgia] Not always.

- Christmas is so strange.

Every time, like, we all spend money on each other

when why not just spend time with each other?

I mean, the whole point of Christmas

is to celebrate joy and happiness and...

"Santa's gonna bring me all kinds of stuff this year.

And then they grow up and then they have kids,

and those kids want more, want more, want more.

It's constant.

I grew up for most of my life with just my dad and me,

and I bonded with my dad, so,

I don't know, there's,

you can't lose hope, you know?

she got full custody of, uh, of him.

I mean, I don't understand.

You know, it's,

you know, how can you,

how can you ruin a relationship

and then get sole custody of the kid?

How can you do that?

- Does your son understand this whole separation thing?

- He's five.

It's just that, you know,

you can't get out of bed sometimes.

I mean, I have this weight

of it's not only me anymore.

I have to think about David.

And I have to think about what she did,

and I have to think, and...

And I just can't, I can't get up.

I used to love Christmas.

(chuckles) I mean, look at me.

I can't,

I can't even find simple joy.

And the fact that people are happy

makes it worse, even.

- [Georgia] Like, it's all just so fresh

right now probably, I don't know.

It does get better. It will get better.

You just have to...

It sucks, it sucks.

You have to get through the suck first.

- (scoffs) How do you know that?

- [Georgia] I don't...

I mean, I, nobody knows,

but I don't think it's okay

to just tell yourself it's not okay.

It's okay to be upset and you're allowed to be mad.

Being vulnerable is not weakness.

It's being human.

My therapist told me to write down one positive thing,

one affirmation, something to motivate me every day.

So maybe, maybe even try to write something,

just anything.

- Like something, like,

something good?

- [Georgia] Just maybe how you feel, get it out,

or maybe something you wanna feel.

And that could be what you focus on

is something that you would like to be able to do.

You don't have to, I just

thought it might help. - No, it's fine.

I'm, I'm just thinking.

- [Georgia] Yeah.

- These people keep telling me to man up.

And they say, oh, there's plenty of fish in the sea and...

But I don't know how to use my rod and reel, you know,

and the bait (sighs)

Just reach out to the people that,

the people that love you.

They'll be there for you.

Mom passed away, the first year after?

all that sort of thing,

it's, you know, great on greeting cards and commercials,

but it can be tough.

Let me tell you, I am proud of you.

You went out there with a open heart.

You know, you tried to interact with people,

give some cheer, you know what I mean?

Show some Christmas spirit.

I'm sorry it didn't go the way you wanted to,

but, um,

I know Mom would be very proud of you too.

What happened?

- [Georgia] It started out really nice.

There was this sweet, old couple,

and they had been together forever,

it feels like. - Okay.

- [Georgia] And it gave me hope

that maybe someday I would be with somebody forever.

- You might.

- And then, like, there was just such good momentum

and then it just came to a screeching halt

once, like, reality hit

and I realized that not everybody has a good situation

and sometimes people's families are taken from them.

I just, it's not fair. (sighs)

- [William] No.

- And it's hard to, like, tell people, you know,

keep your chin up, believe in yourself.

You know, all these positive affirmations that we say,

it's just, like,

it doesn't, it doesn't just work like that.

What's the point?

- Well, the point is that you try,

you go out there with the best intentions,

you try to interact.

And you'd be surprised

how even a second that you spend time with someone,

you're changing that person.

- [Georgia] You think so?

- Oh, yeah.

Every time that you bump into someone,

smile at someone,

yell at someone,

laugh at someone,

you're interacting with them,

you're affecting them,

and that makes them emotionally make a decision

of how they're going to react back, alright?

- [Georgia] Yeah.

- So if you're positive,

that's all you can do,

and hope they have a positive reaction

from what you're doing.

Some people have it tough.

Some people have a hard time accepting,

you know, positive affirmation or a smile

or a kind word because- - They're not used to it.

- Some people feel they're not worthy of it

or they don't deserve it.

But those are the ones

that you really need to spend that time with.

They're the ones you really need to take that extra minute,

you know? - Yeah.

- I mean, when I was down and didn't feel talking,

I mean, you didn't allow me to wallow or whatever.

And vice versa.

- [Georgia] You weren't alone.

Neither one of us were.

- No.

No, we were lucky, you know.

We had each other.

But some families aren't quite that close

or have that kind of relationship.

So all you can do is,

you can show them there's hope.

- Yeah.

- That that's really it.

That's the gift of Christmas, right?

Christmas is all about giving, not getting.

- Yeah.

It's like Christmas is the one time of year

where you just pause,

where everybody just comes together

or just has a moment to themselves.

- [William] Mmhmm.

- And everybody seems to have a little bit more hope.

- [William] Yeah, yeah.

And for some people that's hard,

you know? - Yeah.

- [William] And some people that's easy.

But it doesn't mean that you should stop trying.

- Well, I recently found out that I was adopted.

And today I confronted my parents,

my adoptive parents.

'Cause they knew the whole time, you know,

where my biological parents were

and they never even told me that I was adopted.

Then, let alone, when I did find out,

to not even tell me that they're here.

Um, so, yeah, I want-

- [Indie] Have you never asked about them before.

- I never knew I was adopted to even ask.

And then when I did find out that I was adopted,

about a month ago. - Oh, wow.

- And they made it seem like they had no idea

who my real parents were.

And the whole time they,

they knew they were here.

So I asked how they would feel if I reached out,

and they said that I was just ungrateful.

And they don't understand what I would need from them,

and I don't really know.

I don't really know. - Yeah.

That's some tough stuff.

Wow.

How do you...

Where do you come off calling your adopted child,

someone you brought into your family,

someone you wanted, for whatever reason,

how, where do you get off going?

How are you so...

Oh my god, I can't, I can't.

I don't understand that, that logic, that concept.

- Yeah, this,

I think they're just embarrassed

because they wanted everybody to think that,

you know, I was theirs.

And really, they've been living a lie.

- [Georgia] Right.

- This whole time, all these years.

30 years.

- [Georgia] It's not fair to you.

They had this cookie-cutter image they wanted to have

and they just forced you into it

without ever considering the possibility of this happening.

- Yeah, just,

it hurts.

It really hurts.

- How do you,

how do you, (chuckles)

how do you calculate a response to that?

- (sighs) Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah, and everyone's like, well, what is gonna be different?

When you find out, you know,

who your real parents are,

when you meet them, what is gonna be different?

You have a mom, you have a dad,

you have everything, you know,

that, you know, a kid could ask for in their childhood.

And I,

I don't even know.

- [Georgia] Maybe nothing will change.

But you'll never know, what if?

- So what's the point, right?

Should I just not, you know?

If nothing's gonna change

and it's just gonna make the parents who raised me

feel some type of way,

it's like, maybe I shouldn't, you know?

Maybe God just put me in the right hands,

the right parents,

and I should just be happy with that.

Like, maybe I am being selfish,

maybe I am being ungrateful,

and maybe I should just let it go,

but I can't, I can't.

I can't.

- [Georgia] I think your heart's in the right place.

So if you wanna do that and answer the what ifs,

I don't think that could hurt.

And I feel like they owe it to you to let you explore that.

And if they do love you,

they'll be there for you, even afterwards.

- You're right.

and I deserve just to get whatever I'm gonna get out of it.

Well, there's a lot of different things.

And I have a very indifferent opinion

about families and holidays,

especially recently.

I've chosen to take a leave of absence this year.

And, honestly,

if there were another world,

I vote to move there. (laughs)

'Cause families,

they're another story.

(sighs) You know how they have a black sheep

in every family? - Yeah.

- You could say I'm the purple sheep.

Just, I,

I mean, it's always been a case of whether I fit in or not,

but there's, like,

there's, like, layers of that,

of not fitting in

or comprehending my coexistence

with some of these people. (chuckles)

Especially my dad.

My dad, he's, uh,

he's a bit surprising, to say the least.

I honestly don't,

I don't really know what surprises me anymore about him.

I don't know why that I feel surprised.

I honestly shouldn't,

but I guess it just stems from, you know,

the culture in my family on his side

and where we come from

and who I've always wanted to know more about,

you know, historically,

and where we come from.

And in the last couple of years,

he's become oddly political

and very opinionated in that fact.

And not on the side that you would think. (laughs)

You know, in this time of year, (chuckles)

you should be, like, closer to family.

And I am just so okay being as far away as possible.

Like, this season,

people are expected to be nice to each other,

so you think that they're being actually nice to you

and honestly they're just, like you said, faking it.

If you really wanna be a family,

like, fake it all year.

Don't just wait 'til the holidays and come around.

I mean, it's almost,

it's almost how I felt last year, going into holidays.

I have a super supportive, you know, boyfriend,

and his family and him are super close and it's great.

I just, I found myself trying to perceive the same,

in a sense,

inviting him over to family gatherings and stuff

that I normally don't attend on a regular basis,

especially throughout the year.

- [Georgia] Right.

- [Indie] And doing Christmas last year was just like,

here they are, it's a picture,

and that's pretty much it. - Right.

- 'Cause nobody really cares what you're doing

and nobody really has any interest in anything,

but your status or...

And I don't know.

I just, I don't know,

I decided, like, I don't wanna be a part of that.

I'm not...

That's the kind of stuff I keep out of my life.

If I'm gonna do that with my friends,

then why would I do that with,

why won't I do that with my family?

You make your family.

You make your own family,

whether it's blood relatives or not.

And I just,

I just, I don't know.

It's holidays, to me, are an excuse.

And I feel like,

although I miss being kind of joyful and jolly and stuff,

I used to be really into the holidays growing up,

but it's become,

it's become just that.

Because it's something you do together?

Or because other people are doing it?

Why do you give each other gifts?

Because it's required?

No, it's saying, hey, this is a time of celebration.

I'm not feeling so great either right now

and I also don't wanna be alone.

Kind of actually afraid of being alone right now.

that I go to to clear my mind.

- How long ago did you lose her?

- 10 years.

- Does it ever get any easier?

- (sniffs) No.

I wish I could say that it does, but it doesn't.

It's never not not gone.

But you, you figure it out.

You think about the fact that she,

she would want me to be here,

she would want me to just keep going and,

and to live the life that she couldn't.

And you just,

you kind of learn to cope

and you find your will to live,

eventually.

It never doesn't suck.

- Have you ever felt like nothing you do makes a difference?

- Yeah.

When I very first lost my mom,

I just,

I felt so, like,

like, a lack of control,

like I had no control over anything.

I couldn't help her,

I couldn't save her,

I couldn't bring her back.

I just felt like, what the hell, (sniffs)

what-

- Like, what am I even doing?

- Yeah.

What's the point if they could be gone tomorrow?

Like, what?

Why do we try so hard if it could be over so quick.

(Raven sniffles)

Well, I'll tell you one thing.

Even though I felt worthless and hopeless for so long,

finally, I saw a glimmer of hope,

I saw something good.

But it took a long time to get there.

- I haven't seen a glimmer in a long time.

- Tell me more about your brother.

- We aren't close.

He's younger than me,

lives in California,

works in finance.

We're really different.

I love him.

I wish we were close.

Sometimes I feel like I'm a bad sister. (sobs)

- The fact that you care means a lot.

The fact that you wanna be better, it means a lot.

It's not the end of the world.

You could always,

you can always try and you can always reach out.

- I'm scared.

- Rejection is terrifying.

- I've just faced so much already.

Like, you know,

before my mom died,

I used to think that everything was gonna be okay,

no matter what, yeah.

And then it wasn't. (sobs)

It wasn't okay.

- You gotta,

you gotta reach out.

He's going through it too, you know?

It's his mom too.

If anything, that might even bring you back closer,

just sharing that, knowing you have each other.

You just gotta get over the hump.

You have to just bite the bullet and reach out

because you don't wanna live the rest of your life

without him.

You don't wanna regret never talking to him.

You don't wanna make a mistake.

- Do you think he'd wanna see me?

- Of course.

Probably more than anybody else right now,

he wants to see you,

'cause you're the only one who's also going through it,

only one that can understand.

- Do you have any brothers or sisters?

- It's just me and my dad.

I've never really been too close to anybody else, really.

Anybody who's came into my life

has ended up leaving.

I had no one, just had him.

- (sniffs) It's nice you have him at least.

and tomorrow I finally get to see him again.

- Are you excited?

- I'm so excited.

It's too long, it's too long,

and he's been alone.

I mean, he's has been dating, thank god.

I don't want him to be alone forever, but (sobs)

we're all just too spread apart.

- I'm glad you picked me up tonight.

- I'm glad you got in my car.

I'm glad you came with me 'cause (exhales loudly)

honestly, I was feeling hopeless.

I was feeling like,

you know, I can help all these people,

but they can't even help themselves.

I'm riding around

and I'm picking up these people

and all of their energy is just rubbing off on me.

And I'm trying to be positive,

I'm trying to be jolly.

You know, it's a holiday for god's sake.

And I feel spent.

I feel like I can't help them

because they're just so lost in it.

They're just drowning in their own stuff.

And I know that I'm not supposed to fix everybody,

but I thought just something nice for somebody else

would make the season brighter.

But (sobs) I just feel like...

Like, when my mom passed,

it was just me and dad.

There's just only so much talking

between two sad people that you can handle.

and then everybody's crying and it's just, (sighs)

it feels hopeless.
