Since years we play in December in London.

The christmas atmosphere was fantastic around everywhere.

So I said to my orchestra: Let’s go to the christmas market.

Then I’ll buy you some drinks. Yippie!

I remember I went to the mulled wine shop and ordered 70 glasses of mulled wine.

So he started to pour the mulled wine.

But 70 is a lot. So I said: Can I help?

So I came behind and helped them.

It was all in this nice christmas atmosphere. I loved that.

Merry christmas.

And you can imagine, we are musicians, after some mulled wine we started to sing:

We wish you a Merry Christmas.

And before we knew, the whole market was singing.

It was a fantastic atmosphere. I will never forget that.

And I looked at my orchestra how happy they were.

Some are with me since 25 years and still we have this sort of relation.

I am very proud of that.

Merry christmas.

It was the last concert before going home after a long tour

and it was christmas time. Everybody was playing christmas songs.

It was a really nice christmas atmosphere like a big family.

And as I still prepared backstage, I can hear the audience has arrived in a very festive mood.

We just love the music. - Everything about it.

It’s so wonderful, I hope we are all dancing at the end.

There is something magical about it: You feel part of the concert, it’s great.

It’s amazing. - The music, the energy, everything about it.

Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Fantastic that you all came here tonight to be together with us a whole evening with music.

I said deliberately together with us“. Because that’s the beautiful thing about music.

Music unites people.

Wherever you are from, tonight we are all here with one intention:

To enjoy music.

Tonight we are going to warm your heart.

With beautiful music, fantastic soloist

and of course with waltzes.

It’s so fantastic to be back in London again.

Again we traveled a whole year around the world

and we played on all the continents.

We gave this year some 100 concerts.

Every night after the concerts it’s the same procedure:

We go to the hotel, I go to my room

I put myself into my pyjama

I lay down in my bed, I pull the blankets over me, I close my eyes

and wherever we are in the world, of what do I think?

London, exactly.

And tonight we are in London with the best audience of the world.

I promise you that we are going to warm your heart tonight.

When I made the program for this December christmas tour in the UK

I expected this typical english winterly weather.

But now it’s a sort of summer.

So we are going to bring you in a winterly atmosphere with the next waltz.

We are going to play now for you: The Skater Waltz.

It’s christmas time so we brought you a present

And because we are from holland, it’s a typical dutch present.

Guess what we brought. - Cheese.

Cheese? ugh.

Tulips? No.

Dutch clogs? No.

I’ll help you.

We are musicians, so it’s a musical present.

In Holland we have churches

and the churches have towers, in England too.

And in this towers, bells are hanging. You have that too.

But now it comes: In Holland we have in every tower

a musician who plays this bells.

And you don’t have that.

That’s what we brought to you, it’s a carillon player.

It’s not any carillon player

it’s the best we have in Holland. Give him an enormous applause: Frank Steijns.

You don’t look at all like a carillon player.

Where are your bells hanging?

I brought them to London. -You brought them to London?

Normally, Frank is sitting in his tower all alone.

Summer but also winter.

When it’s cold.

Tonight it’s not cold and he is not alone.

He is going to play for you a magnificent piece: the Concierto de Aranjuez.

Specially arranged for tonight for orchestra, choir, carillon

and the soloist Frank Steijns.

Frank Steijns, carillon player from the cities Maastricht, Heerlen, Sittard, Tegelen

and so on.

That was also very beautiful.

I was asking myself while you were playing. Can you also play fast on that instrument?

Fast? - I mean really fast.

Superfast? - Extremely fast.

Extremely superfast.

Do you dare to compete against the speed champion of our orchestra?

Do you know what that costs?

At least we have London Smog.

It’s now 12 years that we are traveling together with them

and I can tell you, every night, every concert it’s a great joy and a great honor

to be next to be these fantastic guys here on stage.

They enchant the audience all over the world.

All three they have fantastic voices. All three separately.

But the moment they sing together there is this unique sound.

And it’s exactly with this unique sound that they have every night, every concert

all over the world so much success.

Tonight they are going to sing for you a beautiful aria

composed by the french composer Georges Bizet.

An aria from his opera The Pearl Fishers.

And from this beautiful opera they are going to sing the most fantastic aria.

Give them an enormous applause: The Platin Tenors.

That was beautiful, right?

Gentlemen.

The Platin Tenors.

I would like to present you the three fantastic tenors.

At the right, his name is Gary Bennett and he is from Tasmania.

In the middle, with his mustache

Béla Mavrà k, he is Hungarian.

And here next to me, his name is Eric Reddet, a frenchman.

It’s christmas time and this always makes people think of peace.

It’s not for nothing that even in the most cruel wars

at christmas time there is a ceasefire.

I never understood that. When it’s possible to stop fighting at christmas time

why isn’t it possible to stop fighting forever?

When I am going to be the prime minister

there is a chance

I would give all soldiers a violin instead of a gun

and there will be no more war at all.

The three fantastic tenors

are going to sing now a song for you that is very near to my heart.

Because it’s about peace: The Holy City.

The holy city Jerusalem. Jerusalem...

Jerusalem where once the thought of peace started.

Where now is everything but peace.

The Holy City.

Bravo, Gentlemen.

That was beautiful, right?

Gentlemen.

The Platin Tenors.

Are you going on winter sport this year?

Neither me. Much too dangerous.

When the people go on winter sport they have two legs.

But you never know how they come back.

I have a solution: I bought myself a sleigh.

I sit in the sleigh with a blanket over my legs and my wife pulls the thing.

I can recommend it, Gentlemen.

I invite you into my sleigh.

Children.

Some years ago we gave a christmas concert in Vienna.

After the concert we went to the beautiful hotel

and we were sitting in the lobby with a glass of wine.

And there was a piano and Frank started to play a beautiful melody

and some of the musicians took their instruments and everybody of the orchestra was singing.

A beautiful atmosphere I will never forget.

The hotel was build in way that all the rooms of the guest

were looking out at the lobby.

All the other guest who were already in bed

opened their window and instead of screaming Shut up! I want to sleep“

they all came down and sang along with our melody.

That was really a fantastic atmosphere.

And in the middle of this atmosphere

our three gorgeous sopranos started to sing a christmas carol.

Everybody was listening. A lot of people had tears in their eyes.

I asked our three sopranos

if they would like to sing the same christmal carol here for you in London

They are going to sing: Holy Night.

Give them an enormous applause: Carmen, Donij and Anna.

Thank you very much, Ladies.

And now Ladies and Gentlemen, this christmas time

we would all like to play for you once more a magnificent piece

with the orchestra, choir and all the soloist.

I personally don’t know a piece of music that brings more joy to the world

that brings more hope for the future

than this fantastic, devine music.

And I hope that with this music in you heart

that you will all have a joyful and peaceful christmas.

I have the most beautiful profession in the world: Making music.

I am going to explain you why I say that.

Every day people write me letters and emails from all over the world.

They tell me that they love our music and that it changed their whole life.

I can tell you that makes me very proud.

Also doctors are writing me and they tell me:

André, I am now a doctor for 25 years in a hospital

I try to heal my patients every day.

There comes the head nurse

and she puts a DVD of you joyful orchestra in the player

And suddenly my patients don’t need me anymore.

Apparently there is a healing power in music.

Nothing goes as deep into your soul as music.

And I hope that I can go on making music with my orchestra the rest of my life.

The next piece is with water.

Tonight it comes out.

Slowly we are coming to the end.

I said slowly.

I told you that we travel the world a lot.

We visited a lot of countries.

But there is one land that we did not visit yet.

It’s a land that doesn’t exist.

A land we all dream of.

A land where children can run free.

You hear these words in a beautiful song that we are going to play now for you.

I would like to dedicate this song to all the children of the world.

And let us adults do everything that is in our power to create this as soon as possible.

So that this dream of peace can finally come true.
