on the ranch.

They have some
rather intense requests.

They're kind of going to fall
into the hands of Jay and Riley.

So the first thing is that

the oldest brother
wants to ride a mechanical bull.

a fair? Like, this is a ranch.

the sister requested
that we make a birthday cake

that somebody can jump out of.

The things we do for guests.
Can we just talk about

that we're making a cake
for someone to jump out of?

-Well, so it doesn't necessarily
have to actually be a cake.

She was like,
it can be cardboard,

it can be whatever,
I don't care,

but I want like there
to be a big cake,

and I want somebody like jumping
out of it, like old movie style.

-Who's jumping out?
-She's small enough.

Yeah, we can get Katie in there.

Katie wants to do it.

It just seems down

The traveling back here

That's not something that, like,
puts you in a good position.

able to openly communicate
with me. And if you can't

communicate with me,
you won't be head wrangler.

Snap decision, it would be like

you are no longer
in the running,

but like sleeping on it,

like retrospective there.

But to me, it affects her shot
at getting head wrangler.

-I know that it's not like
your responsibility,

but why didn't either of you
reach out to me?

as your manager.

what the root of the problem is.

So I've worked for quite
a few different guest ranches,

and I love it
because it gives me a chance

to get on some horses
and do some creative cooking.

You have guests that are coming
for a Wild West experience,

but you bet your ass
they're going to want some

high-quality food.

And that's what I'm trying
to do.

Is this the full wrangler crew?
-No.

myself

capable of.

Not just riding horses,
but helping out my team.

It is Bob and Carleigh.

We'd just kind of like to give
you some of our pros and cons

for the head wrangler.
-Got it.

You're right on target there.
We need to get it done.

-Carson.
-He's great with guests.

That's one of, like,
his strong points.

-He's got the type
of personality

that I think most of us
wish we had, certainly I do.

-He sometimes falls
into this pattern of behavior

where if someone else
is doing it, he'll do it.

-Can he transition from
being the life of the party,

fun and entertaining,
and take on the leadership role?

Because, as we know, in that
job,

it really has
serious consequences.

-Okay, Vern or Veronica?

-So obviously Vern is,
like, extremely knowledgeable.

She has a ton of experience.

She won't just clock out because
she's supposed to clock out.

She like, stops
when the day is actually done,

but she doesn't communicate
very well.

She went to a wedding
and was gone.

She said she'd be back
on Monday.

Tuesday morning,
Bob didn't know where she was.

I didn't know where she was.
She came back.

None of us ever heard from her,
which is unacceptable.

And her response was, "Well,
why didn't you call me?"

[ Laughter ]

-One of the most wise things
said in this sort of instance,

which is people are hired
for skills,

but people are fired
for attitude.

And that sounds
like the other side of Veronica.

-With what you've heard,
give us your choice.

-As head wrangler,
who will get more buy-in

from their coworkers?

-Carson.

-Vern.

-[ Laughs ]

-Bob and I
can't seem to come to a decision

about head wrangler.

And our decision
is going to impact

how the rest of the season goes,

so we really have to get
this right.

When working with guests,
there's a method to my madness.

naturally complicated.

It was super tough for Bob and I

to, like, come to
a final decision,

but we came to an agreement,
and we're like,

"Alright, this is
the best choice,

like, for us and for the ranch."

-Bob.
-Looks like you've been working.

-Alright.

So, you're probably saying,
"Well, it's about time.

God, we've waited long enough."

We're going to choose
a new head wrangler.

And it has been a process.

We are all in agreement...

new head wrangler.

really happy that they chose me.

It feels like an honor.

I think I deserved it,
and I'm glad that they chose me.

We are going to do that.

your assistant head wrangler.

You can both help each other
grow in the worlds that,

like, you maybe don't excel at.

That just insinuates
that I'm not right for this job.

They basically said, "We
don't think you're good enough,

so here's an assistant."

Thank you for
finally giving me the job

and still having
no confidence in me.

It tore me down a bit.

that they complement each other.

Really, it comes down to, like,

Vern showing,
like, true leadership skills

because she's serious, and
that's a good quality to have

when you're taking care
of people's lives

and very large animals.

That being said, is there things
that she can work on? Yes.

I think that's
why we decided to make

Carson assistant wrangler.

So it felt right
to put him there next to her.

You can learn from Veronica.

You can learn as much
from Carson.

Not one person is perfect.

And I just hope that, like,

putting you two together will
allow everybody to feel, like,

at ease and, like,
confident in their leaders.

And I feel like
you guys can put a lot of trust

in these two people.

It's just bittersweet

because I wish my leaders had
confidence in me, because I do.
