that wasn't exactly approved

by the ancient council,
so it's not hard to imagine

he wouldn't include a full accounting
in this very public database.

janus's peers suspected

he had a bastion of unfettered
thought and experimentation.

that's what they were after.

traveling through hyperspace.

a hyperdrive allows you
to travel great distances

by entering and
exiting subspace.

it disrupts the very specific
subspace frequencies the wraith use.

to engage their hyperdrive.

and their ship would be
ripped into a million pieces.

When this device is turned on,

every time a wraith ship enters
hyperspace, it self-destructs?

that the ships should stop
using their hyperdrives,

they'd be stuck where they were.

They'd only be able to travel
using sublight engines.

And because an ancient ship's
hyperdrives operate

galaxy and pick them off one by one.

die in the vastness of space.

So, what's the catch?

Well, the catch is

that janus ran a three-day
test about 10,000 years ago,

and then shut
the whole project down

because of unforeseen
side effects.

back with him to Atlantis,

but kept it connected
to the main system here.

One won't work
without the other.

They seem pretty convinced
we can make it operational.
