No vintage German version of der golem, wie er in die welt kam has survived.

Originally, two negatives, a and b, with different camera angles were shot.

Negative a, preserved at the cinematek ,

was composed with the best takes.

For the 1921 us release, negative a was considerably cut and shortened.

The present version aims at an authentic restoration of negative a

as close as possible to the lost German version.

The missing shots were replaced by a duplicate of the us distribution copy

preserved at George eastman museum

and by a copy printed from negative b preserved at cinématheque francaise.

Most of the original intertitles were found in negative a.

Additional intertitles come from gosfilmofond of Russia,

and the main title card from moma. The missing intertitles were recreated

according to an approval certificate in a neutral font.

An Italian distribution copy preserved at fondazione cineteca italiana

was used as reference for grading.

The stars reveal to the revered rabbi low

that the Jewish community is threatened by severe harm.

I must speak with rabbi jehuda,

our people are facing an impending calamity.

Summon all the community elders, so they will pray at the temple
