to sneak in a few chocolates

and some brandy,
and had himself a midnight feast

tucked up safely in bed.

And then one day,
it was six weeks ago on Sunday--

We found him in his bed,

stiff as a board and cold as ice.

And a half-filled brandy snifter
on the night table

and chocolate wrappers all over the floor.
