[Melody of Golden Age]

[Episode 18]

The Great Chief successfully vindicated the Jinxiu Workshop.

Finding the real culprit is truly satisfying to the people's hearts.

So good the wrongful grievances have been cleared.

I will be the Lady of the Shen Mansion from now on.

What are you still doing here?

This is bad. The Great Chief insisted on a re-investigation of the old cases,

which provoked the Empress Dowager.

The entire Shen Mansion is to be executed today.

But Shen Du did not defy the Empress Dowager.

Liuniang.

Aren't you desperately trying to find out the truth?

Why are you feeling compassion for Shen Du?

I'm not. This is unfair.

Nothing's fair.

I tried so hard to learn,

but I was unable to get an official title due to my humble backgrounds.

Do you want the truth or Shen Du's safety?

You can only choose one.

I won't choose. I can't choose.

Hurry up and move out.

Madam, please save the Great Chief. Think of a way.

- Liuniang. - Hurry and choose one.

From now on, this place is all mine.

Madam, we are all to be executed today, Madam.

Don't you want to know the truth? What are you waiting for?

I won't need to compete with you anymore in the future.

Madam.

Shen Du.

Knock down…

What on earth are you talking about?

A bull.

What do you mean by that?

Madam, you've finally woken up.

The Great Chief has something to discuss with you.

He has been waiting in the study for a long time.

Xiaohe.

What time is it now?

Madam, you have slept until the hour of You.

The sun is about to set.

Could it be that something is really going to happen?

I'm here.

I heard you were looking for me.

[Case of Multiple Homicides of 12 at Ximing Temple]

Yes.

Did something happen?

These are the case files of the Jinxiu Workshop case.

I have organized them

so it will be more convenient to go through them later.

What do you mean?

The Empress Dowager has agreed

to re-investigate this case.

Really?

Do I look like I'm joking?

You've had me worried for nothing

for so long.

I thought there would be…

Are you worried that I would act only in my own interest

and hastily close the case?

Or are you worried that my reporting this matter

would make the Empress Dowager unhappy?

Is there a difference between the two?

Yes.

Which one is it?

I've woken up.

Why do I still have to choose?

I won't choose.

So?

What did you think?

What can I think?

I think you are a man of integrity.

This is what one ought to do

in a key position.

Besides that,

is there nothing else you want to say?

What should I say?

Did I say something wrong again?

No.

Weird.

I heard that the Great Chief

argued with so many in the court

without any fear.

He delivered a passionate

and fiery speech

that made the Empress Dowager

agree to re-investigate the Jinxiu Workshop case.

I suppose

you certainly

had a hand behind the scenes

and made no small contribution.

What contribution could I possibly have made?

Instead, I fell for Pan Chi's drugging

and knocked myself out.

When I woke up, I heard this news.

Did you become foolish

from working on the cases?

It's such a shame

that I only heard about it

instead of witnessing the Great Chief's impressive demeanor.

He has no shortage of

swaggering about all day long.

You don't know how fortunate you are.

The Great Chief holds an important position

and has a prestigious reputation.

Most importantly, he's also good-looking.

He always has a cold expression.

It's terribly unsightly

Jing Lin.

Great Chief.

Am I

ugly?

Miss Yun Que, I have something to tell you.

I advise you it's best not

to provoke the Great Chief.

Mind your own business.

Have you ever wondered why the Great Chief is called

White Ghost?

I'm not the same as outsiders.

The Great Chief had a bad look.

If you remain persistent,

what if, in a fit of anger, he twists your head off?

It's not impossible.

Who are you trying to scare?

If you don't believe me,

go ahead and try.

I'm just curious about the Jinxiu Workshop case.

Mr. Jing Lin.

You often work on cases with the Great Chief.

Ji Fangming has been interrogated.

But who is the initial

instigator of the matter

of the Jinxiu Workshop?

You must have some insider information, right?

I…

don't know.

You definitely know.

Tell me about it.

Then let me ask you.

How does your family know

Kong Xianrong of Jinxiu Workshop?

What makes you so devoted to reversing the case for him?

Even if I told you, you wouldn't understand.

How can others understand if you don't explain it clearly?

What do you mean?

Your family had many dealings with the Jinxiu Workshop in the past

yet were never affected.

Why is that?

Are you interrogating me now?

Are you suspecting my family members?

I…

[Princess of Valor's Mansion]

Have you heard?

Hundreds of moths just swarmed into the Princess of Valor's Mansion.

It was so frightening.

I heard they flew over from the Jinxiu Workshop.

They say it's the grievous wails of wronged souls

seeking retribution.

Could it be that Princess of Valor

is the mastermind behind the Jinxiu Workshop massacre?

Back then, she had

a hostile relationship

with Princess Runing.

Aunt.

As for the case of the Jinxiu Workshop,

Mother Empress has agreed to re-investigate it.

The injustice you've endured for many years

can finally be redressed.

The old case can be overturned.

But the ones who died in vain

can never be brought back.

Do you still harbor hatred in your heart?

I opened the door and saw you today,

which means I have let go

of the past.

The departed have passed on.

And the living

must carry on.

Now, outside, it's being said

that the wrongful case of Jinxiu Workshop back then

was a setup by me.

That I was the one who caused the death of your husband.

Don't you have anything

you want to ask me?

So?

It wasn't me.

If that's the case,

why is your heart in turmoil again?

That invisible force

has appeared again.

It's targeting the royal family,

intending to throw us into utter chaos.

I'm not the first one,

and you won't be the last.

Knowing there is no way to change it,

you might as well accept it as fate.

I refuse to resign to fate.

Be it the wrongful case of Jinxiu Workshop

or the unsolved case of Chen Huo'e,

the Imperial Guards, the Imperial Inspectorate,

the Dali Supreme Court, and the Ministry of Justice

are all trying to solve the case.

We must make the truth

come to light once more.

The mortal world is full of turmoil.

Seek clarity and peace within one's heart.

Aunt, do you wish

to stay at this Mingsheng Temple

for the rest of your life?

Affairs of this world

are all trivial matters.

At least, one can find peace here.

Fine.

It seems I've made a fool of myself.

It's still the same as before.

I can't stand this pretentiousness,

and you despise my frivolity.

I heard that when Prince Xian came,

you once told his fortune.

Today,

can you divine a fortune for me too?

I have only been cultivating myself here

for a few years.

My practice is not enough.

I'm not very proficient

in fortune-telling.

If there's nothing else,

you should go back.

You're asking me to leave, huh?

I know when I'm not wanted.

An encounter is already a good omen.

Why worry and foster unnecessary thoughts?

Your Highness.

Shen Du.

You've paid a night visit to Mingsheng Temple.

Are you worried

about the matter of Jinxiu Workshop or Chen Huo'e?

What?

Are you suspecting me as well?

Do you want to question me?

Your Highness, you misunderstood me.

I have a plan

that can free you

from undeserved blame.

Come on, bring it in, bring it in.

Alright, alright, put it here.

Mister. Mister.

- Father. - Que.

- Mother, what are you doing here? - Que.

It is this…

young hero

who kidnapped…

escorted us all the way here.

Escorted?

How did you do it?

Anyway, I have brought them to you.

He also said

that Que is to be wed

to Shen Du, the Great Chief.

Great Chief.

If you had this intention, you should have told me first.

Why go for this surprise?

Yan Xing.

Handle this matter.

You have traveled through dust and wind to arrive at Xiang'an.

You must not have had a good rest on the road.

Let's take a rest first

and talk about this matter later.

Please,

rest in the hall.

Is this how you invite people?

You didn't mention how to bring them here.

Moreover, they do not cooperate.

Besides,

this is the safest way.

That's right.

I also found out something

that you would be interested in.

Great Chief, please.

Since Yun Que is not here,

let's get straight to the point.

Mr. and Mrs. Yun.

We invited you two to Xiang'an

not for Yun Que's marriage.

Great Chief is letting Yun Que stay here,

but he never had the intention of marrying her.

As to the matter of the Jinxiu Workshop,

we hope that this time,

you two can tell the truth.

What do you mean, Mrs. Shen?

We do not understand.

Your journey to Xiang'an

was not peaceful.

I need not mention those assassins.

You should have heard about them.

At this point,

if you continue to conceal things,

I fear even the Great Chief

won't be able to protect you all the time.

That's true.

Indeed, I don't need

to shelter those who are unimportant.

Honey, since they do not wish to say more,

we need not waste any more time.

I've heard that nearby Jinxiu Workshop,

there have been wronged spirits lurking recently.

I am timid

and do not wish to stir up more trouble.

Perhaps we should pack their luggage

and send them out of the Shen residence tonight.

Whether they live or die

is up to them.

That would be for the best.

- Wait - Master.

Que is innocent.

Mr. Yun.

We also do not wish

to see you in danger,

but now someone is stirring up trouble with the old case

of Jinxiu Workshop.

Even if you conceal what you know,

would the instigator

truly protect you?

We have wronged Jinxiu Workshop.

We have wronged Mr. Kong.

However,

we had no other choice.

If we were to meddle further,

our Yun family

would not be able to survive.

Back then when inspecting the evidence,

we did find something abnormal

and wanted to contact Mr. Kong.

But that very night,

we were threatened

to keep our mouths shut.

Otherwise,

Yun Que would lose her life.

So we

had no choice but to abide by the agreement

and not speak up for the Jinxiu Workshop.

And after so many years,

the person threatening us

has never ceased surveillance.

If that's the case,

why did the evidence end up in Yun Que's hands in the end?

Moreover, she came alone

safely to Xiang'an to seek justice.

That person asked us to do that.

We didn't understand

why there was such a sudden request,

but we had to comply.

We could only put on an act

letting Que find out bits and pieces.

Given her character,

she would definitely take those documents

to file a lawsuit.

Who exactly is the person threatening you?

- It's… - It's…

It is Chen Huo'e.

- Que. - Que.

So you've known all along

that Uncle Kong's family was wronged.

But in order to protect yourselves,

you knew there were hidden circumstances

and disregarded the wrongs done to so many people of Jinxiu Workshop.

Que.

We had no choice.

Your mother and I

can't and dare not gamble with your life

or the fate of the entire Yun family.

Father.

Mother.

Then how are we, the Yun family,

different from the accomplices?

Your father and I were cowards.

If there's any retribution to be had,

let it fall on us.

Que.

The Great Chief and Mrs. Shen

know that you are not involved in this affair.

Only by staying in the Shen Mansion,

will you be out of danger.

We implore you for mercy, Great Chief.

Father.

Mother.

No matter what happens in the future,

I will face it with you.

Que.

So, is the truth more important

or is the safety of those close to you more important?

I didn't expect it to be Chen Huo'e again.

So she didn't just come back to life recently.

She has always been alive.

For over five years,

whatever Chen Huo'e has been planning,

she must have felt the time was ripe.

That's why she appeared using all the evidence

that could prove her resurrection.

What exactly is her purpose?

A miraculous resurrection,

even the re-investigation of the Jinxiu Workshop case.

In the Jinxiu Workshop case,

Princess Runing's family was involved.

In this re-investigation,

she used moths to guide the people

into thinking the Princess of Valor was the instigator back then.

So she wants

to make the most favored Princess of Valor subject to suspicion

or even incrimination.

If we want to investigate clearly

the old case of the Jinxiu Workshop,

it will inevitably involve Princess Runing,

Princess of Valor Prince Xian,

even Prime Minister Zhang, Lai Luozhi,

and the interactions between these high-ranking officials.

From the perspective of the beneficiary,

it is indeed difficult not to suspect the person behind the scenes

is related to Princess of Valor.

Chen Huo'e's act of deifying

is leading the innocent people

to be convinced

that Princess of Valor is the one who needs to be punished.

What's wrong?

I've just fully understood

how much risk and pressure

proposing a re-investigation

of an old case brings.

If Princess of Valor gets implicated,

it will again draw out

many forces in the court.

By the way, Pan Chi mentioned something upon his return.

- He said… - Great Chief,

Princess of Valor is hosting a family banquet in her mansion

and invited you to attend.

Unexpectedly, even at such a time,

Princess of Valor

is still in the mood to hold a family banquet.

I didn't expect it to come so quickly.

Since you are curious, accompany me to go there.

[Wind and Bamboos Forming Melody]

I don't see

other wives accompanying.

We can take this opportunity

to dispel the rumors of our marital discord.

I agree.

Let's go all the way

and let them all see clearly.

Great Chief.

Why would Princess of Valor

take your advice

and hold this family banquet?

Given her character,

she wouldn't ignore the rumors.

She would make a preemptive move

trying to catch turtles in a jar.

Are you so certain

that Chen Huo'e will take action?

If Chen Huo'e wants to attract more followers,

she must keep creating miracles.

And to punish those

who were truly responsible for the Jinxiu Workshop case

is her chance to prove herself

and the best opportunity to capture people's hearts.

You have always stayed away from factional disputes.

Attending the banquet today,

aren't you afraid that others will think

that you are siding with Princess of Valor?

Do you think the 'White Ghost' people speak of

cares about these matters?

Honey, you are intelligent and resourceful.

If Chen Huo'e shows up later,

what's your plan?

I'll play it by ear.

Princess Jia'an has arrived.

Greetings to Princess Jia'an.

Greetings to Princess Jia'an.

Greetings, Mother.

I hope you are well.

Come here.

Today is a family banquet.

There's no need for excessive formalities.

Just make yourselves comfortable.

Please take a seat quickly.

Princess Jia'an is so outstanding

with an extraordinary presence.

Just as the legends describe,

she has impeccable manners.

Princess Jia'an truly is fitting to be the daughter of Princess of Valor.

It is an honor

to see her today.

Jia'an has been frail since childhood,

so she grew up in the gardens on the outskirts of the capital.

As her mother,

we have had few meetings and many partings.

Not long ago, she just reached the age of maturity

and was summoned back to the capital by Mother Empress.

Today's banquet

is to welcome her

and help her get settled.

I've heard that the Empress Dowager

is personally arranging

a marriage for Princess Jia'an.

Surely, Your Highness will have an excellent son-in-law.

On the other hand, I hope that she

can stay by my side

for a longer time.

Did you notice anything?

Her smile outshines the stars.

She's truly young and beautiful.

Take a look.

With the singing and dancing,

it really is a delightful sight.

Be careful lest extreme joy begets sorrow.

I hope no trouble occurs.

There are moths.

I see them.

Look.

Your Highness.

Guards, capture her alive.

Yes.

You've prepared this show with great effort.

Why leave without taking a look?

You actually noticed.

A petty trick

can't deceive anyone.

Since you can control the moths,

they will naturally lead me

to find you, their master.

You're clever.

But you alone

can't block my path.

I'm enough.

An ignorant fool.

Today,

you will have

a one-way journey.

If you do not ally with me,

you will be walking into a fire,

a one-way journey.

Is the wrongful case of the Shen Mansion back then

related to you?

Your father

was but an ant.

No one cares about his death.

You can choose to believe in me

and beg me to resurrect him.

Sweet words,

but utter nonsense.

The person who framed your father

is right by your side.

Yet you regard the murderer as your father,

assisting a tyrant in his oppression.

Shen Du, oh Shen Du.

Your father died with eyes unclosed.

You are seeking death.

Does the person who was resurrected from death

also bleed?

I never believed that there are people

who can come back to life after death.

Kill me.

And there will be one less person who knows

about the wrongful case of the Shen Mansion years ago.

Liuniang, be careful.

Liuniang.

Shen Du.

Are you alright?

I have figured out the key to Chen Huo'e's resurrection.

Let's go.

[Wind and Bamboos Forming Melody]

Your Highness.

The princess was a bit frightened.

She has taken a Tranquilizer Pill and is resting now.

Good.

Your Highness.

the assailant has been captured.

Your Great Chief

truly is a man of his word.

Who sent you here?

No one.

Drag her out

and beat her until she talks.

Yes.

As you all have seen today.

The Huo'e Sect

and these so-called limitless miracles

are nothing but a group of charlatans

deluding the public.

From now on,

if anyone else uses the name of Chen Huo'e

to spread rumors,

this will be their fate.

Yes.

How can you be so careless?

It's… it's Shen Du.

And Yan Xing.

They ruined my plans.

After today,

it will be hard to get another opportunity

to get close to Princess of Valor's mansion.

I would not hesitate to eradicate

the opposition for you, Master.

Forget it.

Overthrowing Princess of Valor

is not something that can be achieved overnight.

You fell for Shen Du's trick.

She wanted you to take action.

As long as you are unable to punish

Princess of Valor as prophesied,

it will be used by them to make you

lose the trust of your disciples and the public.

No.

I won't let Shen Du succeed.

Those who offend Huo'e

must all die.

Very good.

Go on and demonstrate again

the miracle of your rebirth.

Don't move.

Next time we encounter Chen Huo'e,

I will definitely not let her escape again.

You want there to be a next time?

She no longer has

any secrets to immortality.

With your skills, capturing her

should be very easy.

So,

it's news from Pan Chi.

He says among those whom the Huo'e Sect once killed,

there was an old famous physician

who mentioned he had treated someone

with their internal organs in the wrong position.

Based solely on this statement,

you deduced

that Chen Huo'e's heart is different from that of an ordinary person.

It's not on the left side.

I wasn't quite sure before.

Until during the entanglement,

I confirmed.

Her heartbeat is on the right side.

Great Chief.

Come in.

The guard watching the Huo'e Sect disciples reports

- that there's an anomaly. - What's up?

This morning, Chen Huo'e appeared separately in the eastern, western, southern,

and northern parts of the city,

proclaiming the wide-reaching divine powers of the Huo'e Sect.

Not only can they bring people back to life,

but they can also create many avatars.

And suddenly, citizens of Xiang'an City

are enshrining all kinds of fire moths.

It seems the ambition of the Huo'e Sect

does not stop within the sect.

Notify everyone

to conduct a citywide manhunt for Chen Huo'e.

Yes.

Keep a close watch on the lady.

Don't let her wander around anymore.

Yes.

Let go of me, let go of me.

Lock them all up in the dungeon.

Yes.

Great Chief, it's not good.

Great Chief.

The lady is missing.

Missing?

Outside Shen Mansion,

these thugs from the Huo'e Sect

are hurting people and causing trouble.

It's important to save people. Open the gate.

Great Chief gave orders before he left

that before he returned,

the doors of Shen Mansion must remain shut.

If today, there are commoners

having any accidents

outside the Great Chief's mansion gate,

it would be framing the Great Chief

as being unkind and unjust.

Later on, this mansion's gate might truly never open again.

Open the gate, and save people.

The lady and I went to save people,

but we fell into their ambush.

In the blink of an eye,

she has vanished.

Go search for her.

Let's go.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

- The moths have revived. - The moths have divine powers.

The moths have divine powers.

The moths have divine powers.

The moths have divine powers.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

Not entering the cycle of death.

The immortal cycle of rebirth.

The immortal cycle of rebirth.

Not entering the cycle of death.

The immortal cycle of rebirth.

Not entering the cycle of death.

The immortal cycle of rebirth.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

The moths flying to the flame.

Born in the morning, dead by evening.

Shen Du.

You can't kill me.

Give up.

You're merely a mirror human.

Yet you dare to claim immortality.

Truly a Joke.

Shen Du.

Today,

let's fight to the death.

Liuniang.

Shen Du, we cannot let Chen Huo'e escape.

Shen Du.

Shen Du.

Shen Du.

Shen Du.

Shen Du.

Shen Du, wake up.

Shen Du.

Jing Lin.

Shen Du.

Shen Du.

Help.

Someone. Help!

Shen Du.

Jing Lin.

Great Chief, Madam.

Shen Du.

Take him back to the mansion.

Shen Du.

Quickly.
