[Episode 14]

I'm fine.

He's already at the point where he can't sleep without medicine.

It's cold at night in the mountains.

Take the bed.

You want me to take the floor?

You already gave the bed to me.

You can't ask it back, can you?

If you can't sleep,

I can help.

Don't knock me out.

As soon as Qingyan leaves the mines with the hostage,

we can leave here.

Qingyan will send a signal at any time.

I must not fall asleep.

Also,

I may have night terrors.

No need to be frightened.

If that happens, just wake me up.

I'll take the floor.

Not necessary.

It is them.

It is them.

I know it.

It must be them.

I saw it myself.

Kill them.

The Weibei Army set the fire.

It was their order to start the fire.

It's Big Brother's man...

My Lord.

My Lord.

Did I scare you?

I'm fine.

It's my habit

to sleep with a lamp on.

Bring the oil lamp closer.

Wait a moment.

This is a nightshade.

It can calm the nerves and help you sleep.

Thank you.

If you don't rest well,

it will affect our plans.

Mei Lin.

Mei Lin.

Where were you?

I went to get some water.

I'm heading up the mountain to gather some wild fruit.

I'll go with you.

You'd better stay here and wait for Qingyan's message.

By now,

Luomei should have reached the West Mountain Mine.

[West Mountain Mine]

Hurry up.

Move.

Hurry!

Don't dawdle.

Move.

[Yang Zhen, Commander of the Lulin Army]

General Yin,

the prisoners of war escaped

and disturbed the imperial inspection.

It was my dereliction of duty.

I will plead guilty

with His Majesty.

Now is not the time for blame.

His Majesty has ordered

three divisions of the Lulin Army to besiege Lushan.

General Yin, you know the rules.

The Lulin Army won't leave the West Mountain

without a military tally.

Commander Yang,

is it verified?

Verified.

There's no time to lose.

Take the troops out of the mountain immediately.

Yes, General.

General Yin, after you.

The prisoners are rioting.

Someone come quickly.

General Yin,

the prisoners are out of control.

I'll go handle it immediately.

Protect General Yin.

Yes.

Run!

They are killing people!

They are killing people!

They are killing people!

Take advantage of the chaos and go.

Qingyan.

Stop!

Take them away.

Yes.

Move.

The Lulin Army released the prisoners on purpose, didn't you?

Commander Yang,

did you orchestrate this riot

to obstruct the troop mobilization?

Sun Tong.

[Lulin Army Deputy Commander, Sun Tong] In the Lulin Army, only you and I

have the authority to manage the prisoners.

Speak.

Was this your doing?

Yes.

I released them.

I was so stupid.

I treated you well.

Yet you've always coveted my position.

If General Yin had been harmed today,

you'd receive severe punishment.

Guards!

Here!

Take Sun Tong away.

Enough.

I don't have time to watch you bicker.

His Majesty will decide what will happen to you.

Gather the troops and set out immediately.

Yes.

Your Highness,

I've done my best.

Your Highness,

we searched the entire Lushan

but found no trace of Prince Jing.

However,

the prisoners mentioned

seeing Prince Jing and a young woman.

Based on the description,

that woman should be Mei Lin.

It seems he disappeared on purpose.

Release the falcons.

Not a single mountain nearby

can be overlooked.

Yes, Your Highness.

Any news yet?

To avoid exposure,

Qingyan and I agreed

to cease contact

if there was no news.

So,

no news is the best news.

By now,

they should have already

rescued the witness

from the West Mountain Mine.

She is one of us.

He's Pang Qi,

Commander of the Weibei Army.

This is Mei Lin.

Is she your

new guard?

- No. - No.

My Lord,

we've finally found you.

We intended to jump off the cliff with you,

but the Imperial Guards arrived.

We were afraid they'd discover your tracks,

so we took a different route.

Next, we'll head to Xiaoyun Peak,

the highest point in Zhongshan.

Only there can we light the signal fire

so the Imperial Guards can see it.

The falcon!

Hide quickly!

Your Excellency.

Please rise.

Did I injure you with the kick?

I'm fine.

The kick was light, Your Excellency.

As you expected,

a prisoner is missing.

What?

Your Excellency,

could you have made a mistake?

No way.

Qingyan has been serving Prince Jing since childhood.

Ten years ago,

we fought once on the military training ground.

Won't it be impossible

to cover up the fact

that His Highness and Your Excellency have released the prisoners

and attempted to assassinate Prince Jing?

Sun Tong,

listen carefully.

Take the fake account book

and report to the court.

You'll claim that Yang Zhen

was amassing wealth by secretly trading prisoners.

Unexpectedly, an accident occurred,

allowing the prisoners of war to escape to the hunting ground

and disturb His Majesty.

Feeling ashamed,

Yang Zhen committed suicide

and is already dead.

Your Excellency,

why do you...

I have to take the blame.

Only then can His Majesty escape unscathed.

And you can escape too.

We can defect to Prince Jing!

No.

Prince Jing, favored by His Majesty,

opposes His Highness whenever he can.

If the throne

is seized by someone so ridiculous, who kills so casually,

Great Yan will be in grave danger.

The people will suffer.

But, Your Excellency,

though for His Highness' kindness,

you don't have to sacrifice your life for him.

I was merely the son of a stableman.

If not for His Highness opening the academies,

I would never have received education and become an official.

After I joined the court, it was His Highness

who disregarded my background

and promoted me.

I believe that His Highness

will be the final victor.

Sun Tong,

I need you to do one more thing.

After I'm gone,

immediately send a letter to the Eastern Palace.

Your Highness,

farewell.

Master!

Commander Yang often spoke of the jujube tree in his hometown,

wishing to return someday.

Now he has died far from home, bearing a tarnished reputation.

Commander Yang

is gone.

Your Highness, please accept my condolences.

Send someone to take Yang Zhen back to his hometown

and bury him beneath the jujube tree in his courtyard.

Provide for his family for three generations.

Yes, Your Highness.

Your Highness,

now that Commander Yang has taken the blame,

the prisoner Qingyan rescued

poses no threat,

no matter what he knows.

Jinghe took such a risk.

It must be related to the old case in Qingzhou.

Set up checkpoints along the route

to intercept Qingyan and his companions.

Don't arouse Luomei's suspicion.

Yes, Your Highness.

Yang Zhen,

thank you.

I want to go home.

I want to go home.

He's feigning madness.

No.

He seems genuinely mad.

Take him back to Zhaojing.

If he's truly ill,

let the physicians treat him.

If he's faking it,

His Lordship will know what to do.

I want to go home.

Let's go.

I want to go home.

Move.

I want to go home

and eat white steamed buns.

I want to eat steamed buns.

I want steamed buns.

Hurry up.

Halt.

Let's go.

Don't kill me.

Don't kill me.

Set up a checkpoint here.

No one shall pass.

Yes.

My Lord,

should I shoot down the Crown Prince's bird?

No.

If you shoot the falcon,

the Crown Prince will know we're in Zhongshan.

Then what's your plan, my Lord?

There's no need to ask his Lordship.

He will issue the orders when he's ready.

I'm worried about Qingyan.

[My Lord, Li Qing is rescued.] My Lord,

[Surrounded by Imperial Guards. From Yan] Li Qing is rescued.

I'm surrounded by Imperial Guards.

Shoot the falcon.

My Lord, aren't you worried the Crown Prince will discover us?

There's been a change of plan.

Qingyan is in danger.

Yes, my Lord.

Zhongshan.

Prince Jing is hiding in Zhongshan.

But Zhongshan is too vast.

Searching it will require manpower.

Intercepting Qingyan will require manpower too.

Well...

Gather all our forces.

Send everyone to Zhongshan.

Block every exit.

You must find Prince Jing.

Yes, Your Highness.

Everyone, listen up!

You two, guard this spot.

The rest of you, follow me.

Yes.

If the Crown Prince discovers anything amiss,

I will reveal my location

to buy you time.

No.

You are putting yourself in danger...

Follow my command.

Yes, my Lord.

Charge over with me.

Let's go.

Don't kill me.

It takes only a day

to travel from Lushan to Zhongshan.

Let's take the opportunity to get ready.

The earth stirs,

but the sky does not respond.

Tomorrow morning,

there will be only light fog.

Don't kill me.

Don't kill me.

I want steamed buns.

Don't kill me.

We're safe now.

You must take him back to Zhaojing.

Yes.

I want steamed buns.

White steamed buns.

I want steamed buns.

You fear ravens?

I don't fear them.

I just despise them.

Search thoroughly.

If you encounter Prince Jing,

release the signal.

Yes, sir.

Go.

Extinguish the fire!

Release the signal!

They're just ahead.

Chase after them.

Chase after them!

Kill Prince Jing!

Pang!

Pang.

Pang!

General,

I, Pang Qi, of the Weibei Army,

have finished my mission.

Pang.

Pang!

Mei Lin,

take his Lordship and leave quickly.

My Lord.

My Lord, leave now!

Let's go.

Let's go!

Chase after them.

Yes, sir.

Let's go.

Let's split up and head for Xiaoyun Peak.

A former soldier of the Weibei Army.

Yes.

They can't run far.

Your Highness,

there are traces of Prince Jing inside the cabin,

but no one is in there.

With Jinghe's personality,

even if he's cornered,

he won't give up without a fight.

Your Highness,

that's Prince Jing's signal fire.

Xiaoyun Peak.

They're at Xiaoyun Peak.

Your Highness, should we go after them?

If the Imperial Guards see the signal,

they'll rush there too.

How did you know the Crown Prince would definitely head to Xiaoyun Peak?

Because he can't afford to take a risk.

Searching the mountain again

will take a day.

But checking Xiaoyun Peak

takes only half a day.

If the Crown Prince wants to kill me,

he'll have to take the risk.

Let's go.

Only when we reach Lushan

will we win.

We'll go back to Lushan from here?

The path is rugged,

but it's safe.

There are no climbing holds on this cliff.

You have considered even this.

When I was a child, I took this route.

I was at Sunset Cliff.

if not for the accident,

I could have slowly climbed down here.

I'll go first.

There's water and food

along this path.

The pursuing soldiers have been diverted by Qingyan.

For now, we're indeed safe.

But if the Crown Prince

sends people to encircle us from Sunset Cliff,

we'll be walking into his trap.

He won't dare.

I disappeared at Sunset Cliff.

Father will certainly have his trusted Imperial Guards

stationed at Sunset Cliff.

Unless the Crown Prince wishes to die with me,

he won't

try to kill me right under Father's nose.

It's just larks.

I despise ravens

because they always wait for death.

Ravens only eat the dead.

As long as you're breathing,

they'll fear you.

The truth is, I'm afraid of dying.

But I can't die,

not on the way to revenge.

What about you, my Lord?

What do you fear?

I fear losing.

Anyone who's been on a battlefield

fears losing.

The battlefield

is a slaughterhouse.

Except killing,

there's no time to think of anything else.

When your comrades die,

you have only three seconds to grieve.

The Weibei Army had an order.

During the battle,

if a comrade fell,

we would tap our chests three times.

That was our way of mourning.

On the battlefield,

only victory

ends the killing.

For generals,

winning

as fast as they can

is the greatest mercy.

It seems

I want to win so badly

that I've forgotten

I'm no longer General Weibei.

Taking revenge

isn't the same as going to war.

Your Highness,

we've been tricked.

They indeed returned to Lushan by this path.

Take the trail to pursue them.

Yes.

Stop the pursuit.

We're a day behind.

There's no way to catch up.

Your Highness,

this path leads only to Sunset Cliff.

We can send a message to our men

to have them encircle the cliff from below.

But the top of Sunset Cliff is guarded by Father's men.

Our forces can't get down.

How many days will it take to return from here to Sunset Cliff?

At least five days.

If a man doesn't eat or drink for five days,

what will happen?

What are you carrying

that smells so foul?

General,

it's the remains of a hunt.

The stench from the corpse must be overwhelming.

I was ordered to bury it

far from the hunting palace.

There's a ban at Sunset Cliff.

Bury it elsewhere.

Yes.

The water is poisoned.

The Crown Prince did this.

He poisoned the upstream to trap us.

Now he must have sent his men

to guard at the bottom.

There's no way back.

We can only move forward.

But what if we

do not eat or drink...

The Crown Prince will

keep poisoning the water to trap us.

Qingyan will

surely notice this

and come to our aid.

But if he can't arrive in time...

I once

led an attack on the Xiyan royal camp.

The vanguard could last four days at most without food or water.

I managed to crawl out of a pile of corpses back then.

Now,

I can do it again.

We'll survive together.

Cheers.

His Majesty is worried about Prince Jing now.

Who has the mood to hunt?

Now,

we're down to roasting a few wild hares.

After all these days,

we haven't seen a single living prisoner.

Is this an act?

Are you saying

Prince Jing disappeared on purpose?

Why would he do that?

It's a test.

Prince Jing is testing His Majesty's favor toward him.

Look.

Now the whole court knows

the Third Prince is His Majesty's favorite.

In terms of talent and influence,

the Crown Prince far surpasses Prince Jing.

But nothing

matters more than His Majesty's favor.

There's no point speculating now.

Let's just

find Prince Jing first.

Cut that out.

Come on. Cheers.

Everyone says Prince Jing disappeared on purpose.

Your Highness, don't worry.

Who's worried about him?

That man is full of schemes.

Your Highness, His Majesty isn't here.

Why do you care about Prince Jing's whereabouts?

His Majesty hasn't eaten properly for days.

I'm worried about His Majesty.

His Majesty's been nice to me.

But there's nothing I can do.

Tell me.

Will the gods protect the Emperor of Great Yan?

I'm not sure.

But they'll surely

protect Your Highness.

Didn't you pray to the gods

for Mei Lin to be with Mr. Yue Qin?

Maybe it's a sign from the gods.

That's why Prince Jing hasn't returned.

I didn't mean it like that.

Even if Prince Jing isn't a good person,

he's still a human life.

Then you should quickly ask the gods to take back your wish.

Gods,

all my wishes were sincere.

Please grant them.

But I also don't want anything wrong to happen to Prince Jing.

Please guide Prince Jing back safely.

If Prince Jing returns,

His Majesty will regain his appetite.

His Majesty hasn't eaten properly for days.

Your Highness,

it's getting late.

Let's head back.

Your Highness,

General Yin has returned with reinforcements.

It seems

she was injured by a prisoner.

Forgive my rudeness.

I heard you were wounded.

Where's your injury?

Who hurt you?

I had a minor injury during the suppression.

It doesn't matter.

The court physician is outside the tent.

Let him treat you.

I was delayed half a day for getting the reinforcements.

For Prince Jing, that's half a day of more danger.

The most important thing now

is to find Prince Jing.

Luomei,

there's news of Jinghe.

Why don't you

join me in reporting to Father?

You said Jinghe was in Zhongshan

and lit a signal fire.

The patrolling Imperial Guards saw it.

I reached Zhongshan

but found no trace of Jinghe.

I only found a hunter's cabin

stocked with supplies of food and medicine.

It didn't look like it belonged to a hunter.

Could Prince Jing have disappeared on purpose?

Forgive my presumption.

Do you think so too?

Jinghe and I have raised falcons together.

I found a dead falcon in Zhongshan.

The arrow in it

has the insignia of Prince Jing's Mansion.

What is Jinghe up to now?

Father, rest assured.

At least it indicates

Third Brother is currently safe.

Fine.

It's good to have some news.

Division One of the Lulin Army

will stay at the hunting palace.

You will personally lead Division Two

and bring Jinghe back.

No matter what he is up to,

bring him back first.

Tell him it's my decree.

But you must ensure his safety.

Yes, Father.

Your Majesty,

I can assist His Highness

in the search for Prince Jing.

I was delayed in deploying the troops.

If Prince Jing suffers any harm,

I will not be able to escape the blame.

This isn't your fault, General Yin.

Yang Zhen of the Lulin Army released the prisoners of war.

He's already killed himself to escape punishment.

His deputy, Sun Tong, even dared to harm you, General Yin.

He should be severely punished.

Deal with the Lulin Army's affairs

as you see fit.

General Yin,

assist the Crown Prince

in finding Jinghe.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Yes, Father.
