[Episode 10]

Your Highness,

the identities of those ten burned Beauties

have already been forged.

Once General Yin discovers these irregularities,

she will naturally suspect Prince Jing.

Wang Quan.

What is it?

Your Highness,

you asked me to investigate those

who visited Fufang Pavilion during the Shangsi Festival.

Here is the list.

The nobles were all there to watch the fire dragon dance.

No other irregularities were found.

I still feel

that Jinghe's visit to Fufang Pavilion on Shangsi Festival

wasn't about watching the fire dragon dance.

He had another purpose.

Your Highness, are you worried

that someone in the court

has already secretly pledged allegiance to Prince Jing?

Besides these nobles,

investigate each person

at Fufang Pavilion individually.

I want to know

who Jinghe met and what he ate.

Also,

keep a close eye on Mei Lin.

Yes.

My Lord,

the West Mountain Mine is heavily guarded.

My failure to gain access to the interior of the mine

was a dereliction of duty on my part.

Li Qing is crucial.

Go investigate him thoroughly

in person.

Be careful.

Don't alert the enemy.

My Lord,

on the day of the Shangsi Festival, the Crown Prince already had suspicions.

I'm afraid

the news about Zhang Yin and Li Qing can't be kept secret anymore.

Besides,

the Eastern Palace has already sent some people

to keep an eye on Miss Mei Lin at the Court of State Ceremonial

and has also dispatched some men to investigate Fufang Pavilion.

If it becomes impossible to keep it hidden,

sacrifice Zhang Yin

to protect Li Qing.

Ideally, make the Crown Prince believe

that my sole purpose on Shangsi Festival

was to accompany Mei Lin

to watch the fire dragon dance.

This way, both witnesses will be protected.

Everyone believes that you dote on Miss Mei Lin.

How could anyone become suspicious?

Could it be that Miss Mei Lin didn't act convincingly and revealed a flaw?

She is a killer.

Naturally, she's not skilled at acting.

The Crown Prince wants to investigate my whereabouts on Shangsi Festival.

I will

give him an answer.

What answer?

I'm deeply in love with Mei Lin.

Other than spending the festival with her,

I had no other purpose.

Mei Lin,

are you practicing dance moves or boxing?

Continue to practice.

If you can't practice well,

you won't go back today.

In all,

I'll visit the Court of State Ceremonial frequently recently.

Even if it can't eliminate the Crown Prince's suspicions,

it can at least

buy us some time.

Since Miss Mei Lin isn't good at acting,

you'll

have to be more convincing.

You

stand here as punishment for four hours.

My Lord,

I am teaching under imperial command.

Please don't obstruct me.

I've promised my father

that I will never interfere in your teaching.

Certainly,

we'll follow your rules.

- My lord. - I'm worried about the Beauty,

but I can't help her.

I can only

stay with her.

Your Majesty.

Greetings...

Greetings, Your Majesty.

Green Jade Hairpin.

Your Highness,

these peonies

are His Majesty's favorite.

Peonies?

Aren't these cabbages?

This is a new variety of peony

that the Grand Agronomist's gardeners

spent three years cultivating.

Your Majesty,

I didn't know these flowers were so precious.

It's because they look the most beautiful that I...

Fortunately, I came just in time.

You have yet to dig out the roots.

If you like them,

just move them to Fanghua Palace.

No.

I didn't come to steal flowers.

I just wanted to dig up some soil.

Did up some soil?

Your Majesty.

Please forgive her.

Someone close to Concubine Yan and me

passed away recently.

There is a custom in Xiyan.

If a person from Xiyan dies in a foreign land,

they must be commemorated with Yisang flowers.

There are no Yisang flowers in Great Yan.

Her Highness

found some Yisang flower seeds.

The deceased had been taking care of Her Highness a lot

since she was a kid.

Without doing so,

Her Highness cannot alleviate her grief.

I see.

Concubine Yan, get up.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Have the Director of Agriculture arrange for several gardeners

to go to the Fanghua Palace to help Concubine Yan

cultivate Yisang flowers.

Yes, Your Majesty.

[Fufang Pavilion]

Be careful sending them to the Court of State Ceremonial.

If you damage them,

it will upset Prince Jing.

Understood, Sir.

Did Prince Jing

order these pastries?

Sir,

after the Shangsi Festival,

Prince Jing had his men

order all these kinds

of pastries.

It's said it's for celebrating a Beauty's birthday.

If you need any pastries, Sir,

please come in with me.

You can pick anything you want.

I don't want to eat pastries today.

But there is something

I want to ask you.

Well...

After you, Sir.

After you.

Zigu,

are you angry again?

When did Shumo fall ill?

I know you kept it from me because you were afraid I would worry.

But I'm no longer a child.

Shumo had been ill for a long time.

He didn't want us to worry, so he had kept it from us.

I'm hanging Yisang flowers for him.

He is now back in Xiyan.

Brother,

why are we always parting?

After you go back to Xiyan this time,

we will never meet again, won't we?

We will meet again.

I promise you

I will come back to Zhaojing to see you.

Really?

Of course.

But you lied to me before.

When our mother passed away,

you clearly promised me

no matter what happened,

you would stay by my side.

Sir,

it's time

to set off.

Wait a while longer.

Chagu said

the princess was really angry this time.

She said it was a good thing you were leaving.

No one would discipline her anymore.

She could do anything she wanted.

Sir,

how can you still laugh?

Ziyu is always watching her and telling on her.

She wouldn't dare to do anything out of line.

Liar.

Big liar.

Your Highness,

Mr. Yue Qin is about to go to Great Yan.

If you don't go now, it'll be too late.

I won't go.

I swore to the gods last night.

If he really leaves,

I will never forgive him.

She has always been

this childish,

acting on her whims and moods.

When our mother passed away,

she was only eight.

I've been strict in teaching her

to be more mature and sensible,

hoping she'll grow up faster

and avoid causing trouble.

But now I'm leaving.

I can't protect her anymore.

Now, I don't

want her to grow up.

Am I

very greedy?

Let's go.

Mr. Yue Qin is really leaving.

Brother,

don't go!

Brother,

don't go!

Chagu,

I have no mother now.

I've also lost my brother.

I thought that if I went to plead with Father,

kneeling for three days and nights,

or seven days if that didn't work,

and even if it meant getting beaten,

you would always find a way

as you did before.

I thought if I was angry,

you would not leave.

It was my fault.

I know that back then,

if it weren't for you going as a Hostage Prince,

it would have been me going for a peace-making marriage.

Actually, I lied to the gods.

I forgave you long ago.

Zigu,

I promise you

I won't lie to you again.

I've grown up.

It's my turn to protect you now.

Okay.

[Yanming Palace]

You have played go with me these past few years,

but only today have you shown

your true strength.

I concede defeat from the bottom of my heart.

Winning this half-move against Your Majesty

has already taken all my effort.

I'm flattered, Your Majesty.

There's no need for modesty.

When it comes to the art of go in Xiyan,

as long as you put your heart into it,

there's no game you can't win.

I want to win.

But to win,

I have to rely on the go style

I've learned from Your Majesty over the years.

The majesty of Great Yan's ruler

is the key to victory.

Have you really come around?

If I still don't understand,

wouldn't I be failing to live up to Your Majesty's kindness?

Why have you only developed

great ambitions today?

Your Majesty, you can see

I'm not an ambitious man.

Your Majesty, you're wise

and are willing to provide me with support

for the long-standing peace between Great Yan and Xiyan.

The reason I want to win

is to protect those around me.

Your Majesty, you have said

Concubine Yan

is a symbol of peace between the two nations.

As long as Great Yan and Xiyan maintain good relations,

Her Highness

can live out her days peacefully in Great Yan.

The Emperor does not speak lightly.

I'm quite moved

by the affection between you and Concubine Yan.

Liu Zhong,

the gift list.

These are gifts prepared for you

by Concubine Yan for your return home.

She constantly talks to me

about what you like and dislike,

always worried that your journey might be difficult

and that you might suffer along the way.

Her Highness may be impulsive,

but she is

ultimately someone without guile.

If there are

any improper actions in the future,

I hope Your Majesty will show mercy.

Someone as genuine as Concubine Yan

is rare in the imperial harem.

I wish for her

to remain forever innocent.

Mei,

happy birth...

These are all given by Prince Jing?

This piece of clothing is so heavy

and it's not really gorgeous.

I thought Prince Jing was deeply in love with you.

How could he be so petty?

There is not even a golden swaying ornament.

Mei doesn't wear those things.

I think Prince Jing is thoughtful.

Gold Silk Armor.

Wound powder.

They're all bottles of medicine.

Isn't Prince Jing cursing Mei to get hurt?

Prince Jing can even see such a small wound.

Now, I kind of believe in him.

I don't think his feelings toward Mei are feigned.

Don't misjudge him.

It's fine if we misjudge him.

As long as Mei doesn't misjudge him.

What do you think, Mei?

Me?

Prince Jing speaks with a mix of truth and falsehood.

Actually,

I can't often see through him either.

Scar-removing cream.

This is the scar-removing cream from the Xinfang Garden.

It's just for noble ladies

and is never sold publicly.

Mei,

you have so many bottles.

Can you give me one?

What happened to you?

Did you get hurt?

I accidentally hurt my arm a few days ago.

The scar is very big and ugly.

It's not on your face.

It's not a big deal.

What do you know?

I'm going to serve the Crown Prince.

I can have no scar on my body.

Jia,

must you go to the Eastern Palace?

It's just her wish.

We don't get to choose.

Well,

with my pretty face,

I'm sure the Crown Prince will be interested in me.

Mei,

did you do that with Prince Jing?

Do what?

The thing people do when they get undressed.

Get undressed?

Why do we do that?

Sit.

You haven't done it, right?

Then it's useful for you.

Well...

How can you give her this

on her birthday?

Didn't you say gifts should be practical?

This is the most practical.

Jia,

today is my birthday.

I haven't celebrated my birthday for many years.

Thank you for being with me.

When you enjoy your life in Prince Jing's Mansion,

don't forget about me.

Please don't forget about me either.

How can I forget about you?

Let's go

pick the gifts.

Okay.

Pick the gifts.

Pick the gifts.

Sir.

Miss Mei Lin,

happy birthday!

Thank you, Sir.

I've heard

when Qingzhou people celebrate their birthdays,

they eat Dengguo Cakes.

I've added

mountain licorice

in the Dengguo Cakes.

Try them.

It won't be sour.

Actually, today is not my birthday.

It turns out

the birth dates in the list of Beauties for the marriage alliance are incorrect.

Well...

Who said I can't eat Dengguo Cakes if it's not my birthday?

I can eat the Dengguo Cakes you made for me

until tomorrow.

Mei Lin, sit.

Actually,

even if today is not your birthday,

I have something to tell you.

This jade ring

is something I keep close to me.

If anything happens to you in Zhaojing,

you can go to Mr. Huang

in Tianxiang Tower with this.

This man's influence in Zhaojing is complex and extensive.

He can surely help you.

You've already helped me a lot.

Mr. Yue Qin, you are a rule-abiding person.

How can you disturb my woman

in the middle of the night?

There's no need to act

in front of me.

You are merely in a cooperative relationship.

How do you know there won't be a day

when our fake relationship becomes real?

Mei Lin is a sincere person

and would not seek genuine feelings in a pretense.

If you're not meant to walk the same path,

don't pursue the destiny of traveling together.

Miss Mei Lin,

There are too many so-called companions

who will stab you in the back in this world.

Only Mei and I

share joys and sorrows

and face life and death together.

Sir,

rest assured.

I won't entrust my life to anyone easily.

Let me remind you,

what you need to do

is in Xiyan.

Everything else is a waste of effort.

Today

is Mei's birthday.

If you are still interested,

you may join us

on our journey.

Is this your first time on a boat?

No.

When I was a kid, my father took me boating on the lake.

When I was younger,

I went to the northern borders of Great Yan for battle.

When sailing down the Lancang River,

I saw a blue starry river.

That's the most beautiful scenery

I've ever seen.

How could there be a blue starry river on the Lancang River?

It was caused by the gathering of mayflies in the river.

There is a legend

about that blue starry river.

Once upon a time,

there was a bird fairy clad in a blue-feathered divine robe

who was enchanted by the scenery of Yuqing Mountain

and transformed into a maiden.

She was playing there

when a young boy happened to pass by.

The two fell in love at first sight.

In order to stay with the young boy in the mortal world,

she cast the blue-feathered divine robe into the river

and it became the blue starry river.

However, Lancang River is too far away.

So I moved the blue starry river here

for you.

I want you to see

the most beautiful scenery

I've ever seen.

There is a legend by the Lancang River

that if mortals see the starry river, they can be together forever.

Prince Jing must be deeply in love with Mei Lin.

I don't think there is anything special about Mei Lin.

She is just pretty.

I think General Yin is most suitable for Prince Jing.

Those are just old stories from the past.

They actually compare

that petite Beauty to you.

carefully tomorrow.

Your Highness,

Prince Jing had some his men

take back these mayflies from Lancang River.

The news of Prince Jing's favor toward Mei Lin has spread

throughout the Court of State Ceremonial in these past few days.

In order to deceive me,

he has to deceive the people in the Court of State Ceremonial.

What did the shopkeeper in Fufang Pavilion say?

He said on the day of the Shangsi Festival,

Prince Jing met with a lot of people.

I will have to question them one by one.

It is now past midnight.

Today

is your real birthday.

My Lord,

how did you know that?

You are not a real peace-making Beauty.

The birth date on the name list is certainly fake.

You are cooperating with me.

It's very easy for me to know about you.

Knowing your birthday is nothing strange.

This Dengguo Cake must be very delicious.

Whether it's delicious or not,

you'll have to wait until your tongue is cured

to judge.

You said it.

The flavors of life

don't necessarily have to be tasted with the tongue.

I can also enjoy them with my eyes.

Look.

This Dengguo Cake is so beautiful.

It must be very delicious.

The imperial physician said

it wasn't difficult to cure your tongue.

As long as you take medicine on time,

you'll be cured.

My mansion recently hired a chef from Qingzhou.

It's said that he has a secret method

to make Dengguo Cakes.

Whether the chef is a good one or not,

we'll have to wait until your sense of taste recovers

to judge.

The Dengguo Cakes he makes

must be less tasty than the ones made by my mother.

When the Xiyan people were in Qingzhou,

the neighbors in Qinglin Lane often paid my mother

for the fruit cakes she made.

If my mother were still alive,

our family's fruit cake shop would surely be

the best business in all of Qingzhou.

Come.

You told me

you looked very much like your mother.

If you miss her,

just look at "her".

The eyes

are bigger.

The nose

is similar to hers.

Here,

there are wrinkles.

The chin...

Mother,

I miss you.

My lord,

thank you.

Today

is your birthday.

I will

give you another birthday gift.

What's the name

of your family's fruit cake shop?

Spring Flower Cake Shop.

[Spring Flower Cake Shop]

In our backyard,

there was a Dengguo wood.

Every year, when it snowed,

the fruits on the trees

were as beautiful as the wintersweet you painted.

Besides opening a fruit cake shop,

do you have other wishes?

Successful revenge.

What else?

I want to live on well,

carrying the share of my father and mother

with me.

I also want to go to Lancang River

to see the real starry river.

Once the Crown Prince faces his punishment,

I will help you open

a Spring Flower Cake Shop,

with a fifty-fifty profit split.

There's even a strange odor.

Let me smell them.

I think they smell good.

You say that because you can't smell, right?

Who said it?

They contain sandalwood,

agarwood,

spikenard,

and...

And rose water.

Right.

All of these have a calming effect and can help with sleep.

Mei,

can't you fall asleep?

She sleeps very well.

On the way here,

she was always the first one to fall asleep.

Is it for Prince Jing?

The taste is not important.

The appearance matters.

That was Prince Jing's order.

It seems Mei Lin

can't taste anything.

Got it.

You may leave.

That's indeed the case.

Mei Lin has no sense of taste.

On the day of the Shangsi Festival,

Prince Jing went out to get the Beauty treated.

Sun Taiqing from the Imperial Medical Institute

was beaten by Prince Jing

because he failed to cure her.

Your Highness,

if Mei Lin were just a pawn,

Prince Jing wouldn't have to go to such lengths.

Jinghe is truly in love.

He has fallen in love with his pawn.

It's not a bad thing for me and Luomei.

Now

I'm reluctant to let you die.

By the way,

how is the progress of General Yin's investigation?

Your Highness,

General Yin
