[Episode 1]

My parents died in the fire

ten years ago.

Mei Lin from Qingzhou was also burnt to death.

I forgot how to cry.

I forgot how to feel pain.

I've been trained in the Shadow Works for many years.

My only purpose is to kill Murong Jinghe with my own hands.

Mei Lin,

what are you doing?

We are ordered to find living persons

and bring them back to the Shadow Works for training.

It wasn't easy to find one.

Yet you killed her.

This one was dying.

That's not a living person.

Why waste food and water on her?

I'll report to the Master myself.

Live on well.

Greetings, Master.

[Master of the Shadow Works]

[Mei Lin, an orphan of Qingzhou and an assassin of the Shadow Works]

This is a gift for you.

Complete the task

to get the antidote.

Only then can you

leave the Shadow Works.

Thank you, Master.

Infiltrate the peace-making marriage delegation of Xiyan

and assassinate the third prince of Great Yan,

Murong Jinghe.

[Weibei] Weibei Army.

Murong Jinghe.

Blood for blood!

Remember,

the alliance banquet

is your only chance.

In the 25th year of the Zhaoming era,

Great Yan and Xiyan agreed to a truce after a century of confrontation.

The King of Xiyan sent Princess Zigu

and 100 Beauties to Great Yan to form a marriage alliance.

The marriage delegation of Xiyan will enter Great Yan from Jingbei.

Murong Jinghe, the third prince, stationed in Jingbei,

[Yanming Palace] volunteered to be the wedding envoy.

Greetings, Father.

These are all the memorials opposing Jinghe

serving as the wedding envoy.

Xuanlie,

what do you think?

Father.

[Murong Xuanlie, the Crown Prince of Great Yan]

This third brother of mine was excessively violent

in his past expeditions against Xiyan.

The marriage alliance marks

the beginning of friendly relations between the two countries.

If General Weibei serves as the wedding envoy,

it will inevitably create new tensions.

It's understandable

that the officials

have doubts.

Do you also think Jinghe

is not a good choice?

[Murong Qian, the Emperor of Great Yan]

That's not what I think.

Xiyan and Great Yan have been at war for many years.

Agreeing to this marriage alliance

indicates that they can no longer afford to fight.

If they

plan to use the marriage alliance to lie in wait,

General Weibei Murong Jinghe

is the ideal choice

to deter Xiyan.

In recent years, Jinghe has become

increasingly reckless and unruly in Jingbei.

I'm still worried.

After the great fire in Qingzhou,

Jinghe was physically injured,

which led to his current despondency.

It's just matters of wine and women.

Father, you don't need to worry.

For so many years, he has not involved himself in state affairs,

but this time he volunteered to serve as the wedding envoy.

I believe he has come to his senses

and will surely share the burdens and alleviate the worries

for our Great Yan

and for you in the future.

It's rare

that you still think of him constantly.

Ten years of self-reflection

should be enough.

We are about to arrive in Jingbei.

I heard the wedding envoy Prince Jing was the most favored prince.

Prince Jing's Mansion is a good place.

The information you gathered is incomplete.

He is a general who has fought on the battlefield.

[Jia] He is very blood-thirsty and ruthless.

I heard

that his pillows and bed were made from the bones of captives.

No woman who has served him these years

has lived to see the next day.

We are peace-making Beauties,

not captives.

[Yi] [Dai]

Don't be afraid of him.

He wouldn't hesitate to kill their own Great Yan citizens.

What more would he do to us?

[Jingbei City Gate] You know what they call him in Great Yan?

The mass murderer general!

He once set a fire that razed an entire city,

burning over 100,000 people in Qingzhou to ashes.

Why is there no one receiving us?

Why are the gates still closed?

What is this?

Why are the gates still closed?

[Zigu, the princess of Xiyan]

This is paper money used in Great Yan for sending the dead on their way.

[Jingbei]

Turns out he's disabled.

I think he is crazy.

What does he want to do?

Prince Jing?

[Murong Jinghe, the third prince of Great Yan]

Your Highness.

What does Prince Jing mean by this?

Qi has accompanied me for many years.

But he suddenly passed away.

I am overwhelmed with grief.

Only by scattering paper money as an offering

can I express my sorrow.

Your Highness,

His Highness has just lost his old friend

[Liu Zhong] and is extremely sad.

Please forgive us

if we have been rude in any way.

Who is Qi?

[Qingyan] Qi was Prince Jing's turtle.

You...

How dare you call us turtles?

I'm merely paying respects to an old friend.

You're overthinking it.

Well...

It seems my Ba

has quite a connection with you.

What do you want to do?

I will do

whatever you will do in Great Yan.

My lord.

After entering the capital, the Beauties go through a grand selection

before being assigned

to the mansions of the imperial family and high-ranking officials.

How many can I have?

Imperial relatives can have four.

Four.

After much deliberation,

this particular Beauty is the only one

who catches my fancy.

Yet if I choose only one,

it would seem like a loss for me.

Well,

as for the remaining three...

Ba will pick for me.

My lord...

Didn't you say

I could pick four?

According to protocol,

a grand ceremony must occur before selecting the Beauties.

Then what's the use of me

being the wedding envoy?

Enough!

They are peace-making Beauties, not captives.

You have no right to insult them.

Exchanging 100 peace-making Beauties for 10,000 captives

to return to Xiyan

was a proposal initiated by your side.

I merely went along with it.

How can this be considered an insult?

If you want to blame someone,

blame your father.

Your Highness,

Prince Jing was joking just now.

Please rest assured, Your Highness.

In Great Yan, etiquette is highly valued.

The peace-making Beauties will absolutely not be summoned

before the grand ceremony takes place.

The Beauties are not yet accustomed to the new environment.

Let them enter the capital to rest and adjust.

That won't do.

I need to wait until Qi's seventh-day memorial is over.

Prince Jing is joking again.

His Majesty, understanding your weary travels,

has granted a special decree for you to rest and recuperate in Jingbei

before proceeding to the capital.

[Jingbei Relay Station]

Riding in the carriage for so long

is really tiring.

Please come in, Miss.

When can we depart for Zhaojing?

[Jingbei Relay Station] This is so beautiful.

I hope we can arrive in Zhaojing soon.

There is food.

I noticed you haven't eaten anything in the evening.

So I fetched some Dengguo Cakes

from the kitchen, just in case you're hungry.

Try them.

Dengguo Cakes?

Mei Lin, come and eat.

It's so sour.

So sour.

Dengguo Cakes made by Qingzhou people are the tastiest.

I wonder what secret ingredient they put in.

You can't even taste the sourness of Dengguo in them.

Mountain licorice.

Is the cake no longer sour after adding mountain licorice?

There is someone outside the room.

I can't fall asleep.

Your Highness,

this is a leather pendant my mother made for me.

Placing it under the pillow can help you sleep peacefully.

It's useless.

Here are all things from Xiyan.

Bamboo tube wine can help with sleep.

Why not take a try?

I can't sleep when I'm too full.

Shall we jump with Your Highness?

You'll fall asleep when you are tired.

Right.

That sounds very unreliable.

Is there any way to fall asleep right away

without having to exert myself?

Knock Your Highness out.

First, apply pressure to the shoulders and neck

to numb the meridians.

Then guide the force to the Fengchi point.

With a precise application of strength to the wrist, deliver a single strike

that causes immediate unconsciousness without pain,

ensuring at least 12 hours of sleep.

Mei Lin,

are you serious?

If Her Highness gets hurt,

could you bear the responsibility?

Mei Lin must be joking.

Mei Lin,

if you have the confidence,

I may take a try.

Your Highness,

please don't!

This is a method I heard about

from a wandering doctor when I was little.

I've never tried it before,

but I am confident it will work.

Your Highness said you were afraid.

Why?

If anyone in Great Yan dares to bully Your Highness,

His Majesty won't let them off the hook.

That lunatic was right.

My father

sold me to Great Yan.

He wants nothing to do with me.

Don't believe the lunatic's words.

Your Highness is smart and cute.

Everyone will like Your Highness.

But there are so many princesses in the palace.

Ziyu, the Queen's daughter, is totally the better match.

My father just can't part with her.

He designated me for the marriage alliance

just because...

Because Your Highness are...

The prettiest.

Right.

I am the prettiest.

Mei Lin, do you feel afraid?

There is nothing to be afraid of in this world.

Right.

I've come to Great Yan to see my brother.

I have to be fine

so as not to make my brother worry.

There is nothing to be afraid of.

Time to sleep.

[Jingbei Mansion]

It's him who set the fire.

You caused their death.

Why did you set the fire?

Minor tricks.

Well, sly foxes never play the fool.

So many people want to kill you.

But I'm the one who'll actually do it.

Let me repeat the rules.

Prince Jing prefers to bathe alone

without anyone serving him.

Leave immediately

after delivering the herbs.

Yes.

Why is he soaking in the medicinal spring again?

Has His Highness' old illness flared up?

Miss,

it's you.

My lord,

I, Mei Lin, have brought you the herbs.

Mei Lin.

Having you serve as my medicine attendant

is unfair to you.

I don't just want to be a medicine attendant.

Seeing your demeanor today,

I have developed an admiration for you.

I hope you can accept me.

You recommend yourself to be my woman.

I

am very happy with this.

Oh no.

There is Muscle-Softening Powder in the water.

You expressed your love boldly.

What do you want on earth?

If you want my life,

I can't afford to give it to you.

I just want you.

Bleeding

should be

on the wedding night in Zhaojing.

What do you think?

I can't wait so long

and I don't want to.

No matter what you want,

such eagerness

will bring you trouble.

Assassin!

Catch the assassin!

Catch the assassin!

Assassin!

Protect Prince Jing!

Catch the assassin!

Where is Prince Jing?

Protect Prince Jing!

Hurry!

Go to the medicinal spring.

My lord.

My lord, there is an assassin.

There is an assassin.

My lord, there is...

Go.

Everyone sees me as a lunatic.

A lunatic

can do anything.

I can fulfill your desire here.

Of course, I can also

kill you here.

So,

don't irritate a lunatic.

I'm not afraid of death.

I'm just afraid I can't die

with you.

Your eyes

are truly unique.

Have we met before?

Perhaps

we met in our past lives.

You and I

are definitely meant

to be together by destiny.

You also think so?

Very well.

Stay

in my mansion tonight.

Tomorrow,

go back

to Zhaojing with me.

Okay.

He can walk!

You really didn't disappoint me,

little beggar.
