[The Rise of Ning]

[Episode 28]

Your uncle had the courage to write it,

but not the guts to send it out.

I eventually found it.

Nonsense!

This letter was written by my uncle.

What does it have to do with my mother?

My mother didn't do anything wrong.

Aren't you just making a fuss?

How am I making a fuss?

If your mother hadn't enticed

your uncle,

why would he

have feelings for his own sister-in-law?

How embarrassing

to the Luo Family.

Shut your mouth!

Brother,

what else do you have to say?

I, Luo Chengwen, swear to heaven

that Minglan and I are absolutely innocent.

Brother,

the three of us grew up together.

I...

I admired Minglan,

but

Minglan never knew about my feelings.

When Mother

betrothed Minglan to you,

I had already given up on this idea.

It's just that...

you later betrayed her because of a concubine,

and let her down.

I was resentful in my heart,

so I wrote this letter.

Finally, you've spoken your true feelings

out loud.

Enough!

You two,

have been treating me

like a fool all these years.

Brother,

Minglan is absolutely not that kind of person.

After all these years,

you still don't trust her?

If that's the case, then her entire life

has been wasted on you.

Shut up.

Luo Chengwen,

how dare you

speak to me like that?

You don't deserve to be my elder brother!

Father.

Who is your father?

Who?

Second Master.

I never expected this.

I went up the mountain for just a while,

and so much has happened in the mansion.

Has someone gone to pick up Mama Zheng?

They've already left.

Good.

After picking up Mama Zheng,

don't let others know.

Bring her to my room.

I have some questions for her.

Yes.

Grandmother,

how are you feeling?

I'm fine.

Didn't you give me that

little pill?

It works very well.

I've been unfilial, Grandmother.

if it weren't for the circumstances,

I wouldn't have resorted to such a strategy.

No,

you did well.

If you hadn't told me about this,

I would have found out after a while anyway.

Don't worry.

It's all for the sake of Ning.

As her grandmother,

I must hold on too.

[Luo's Mansion]

Old Madam.

Did something happen

to Seventh Miss again?

I would like to ask you something.

Did you leave Luo's Mansion

without hesitation back then

to protect Yining?

I've never been able to understand.

After Minglan died,

you immediately dismissed

all the people who helped her.

What are you hiding?

I thought you were heartless,

but you raised Qingqu, who knows medicine

and martial arts,

and sent him to Yining's side.

This shows that

you've always been thinking about her.

If you cared about her,

why did you

decide to leave back then?

Tell me quickly.

Someone is already

investigating Yining's background now.

You came back this time

because Second Master called you back.

If you don't tell me the truth now,

how can I protect Yining?

Seventh Miss is actually not Seventh Miss.

What?

What do you mean?

Back then,

Eldest Madam and Second Master

had both signed the divorce papers.

But you firmly disagreed

with their divorce.

Eldest Madam had no choice but to retreat to the villa.

The villa had always been quiet,

but that night,

thieves broke in

and kidnapped her.

That person only said

they wanted Eldest Madam

to take care of an injured patient

and wouldn't harm her.

During that time,

we did indeed receive

letters from Eldest Madam,

telling us not to worry

and not to report to the family.

Not long after,

Eldest Madam

was indeed safely sent back.

She seemed fine,

but soon after,

she became pregnant.

We servants were just happy,

how could we know the truth behind it?

Later on,

Eldest Madam became more and more depressed.

She couldn't eat or sleep well,

and fell into a state of anxiety.

I kept asking her,

and she finally told me the truth.

The child...

The child is not Second Master's.

So...

she didn't return to Luo's Mansion

and preferred to stay in the villa

for this reason.

When Eldest Madam was on her deathbed,

the only thing she couldn't let go of

was this child.

To prevent

Seventh Miss's background

from arousing suspicion,

I dismissed the servants.

As long as we're not around,

the world

will never know.

All these years,

I've been unable to sleep at night

and had no appetite.

I've wronged Minglan.

It's my fault...

Old Madam,

if you don't want

this child anymore,

I

will take her away immediately.

Take her away?

She's the granddaughter I've raised since she was little.

No one can take her away.

Young Lady.

You've been standing for a long time.

You should rest.

Has Mama Zheng arrived yet?

There's no news yet.

Qingqu.

If I'm truly not

a descendant of the Luo family...

I will still follow you.

Wherever you go, My Lady,

I will go.

Didn't you say before

that once Madam Gu's matter is cleared up,

you would leave Luo's Mansion?

You're right.

In this vast world,

There must be

a place for me.

However,

I can't let my mother

be wronged like this.

Who was the one

who kidnapped Minglan?

We're not sure either.

We only remember that person

was dressed as a low-ranking soldier

and was wounded.

I remember now.

He said

he was asking Eldest Madam to save a general.

But after that,

we never saw them again.

What an ill fate...

Truly an ill fate...

You may go now.

Wait.

Tomorrow,

if Second Master asks about you,

you know how to answer, right?

Old Madam,

I will not speak a word about this

till the day I die.

Come out.

Did you hear

what she just said.

Yes,

I did.

Grandmother, don't worry.

No matter what Yining's identity is,

I will protect her for the rest of her life.

That's not enough.

I want you to swear to me right now.

That no matter what happens,

you must

protect Yining.

Swear now!

Yes.

I, Luo Shenyuan, swear to heaven

that in this life,

no matter what happens,

I will protect Yining

and not let her come to any harm.

If I break this oath,

may I be forsaken by heaven and earth, and die without a whole corpse.

♫Love is hard to catch♫

♫The intertwined destinies are hard to unravel♫

Young Master, it's all my fault.

I failed to keep an eye on Mrs. An

and let her escape.

There's no use talking about this now.

♫Afraid of missing it. making mistakes, and the begonia's fleeting bloom♫

I'm going to the villa. You go prepare the horses.

Yes, sir.

♫So the more you care about love, the more you dare not say it♫

♫You're like a poetic song♫

♫One intersection is engraved in my heart♫

♫Among all the people, I'm only impressed by you♫

♫I'll carry out this reckless love and stick to my word for life♫

[Wait for me]

♫Time slips away through a series of unfortunate events♫

♫Sprinkled in memory, forever unblemished♫

♫If, if it's just you and me, if we stick together through thick and thin♫

♫The fall of snow would signify our journey into old age together♫

Brother.

♫You're like a poetic song♫

I want to go home.

Okay.

I'll take you home.

♫One intersection is engraved in my heart♫

♫Among all the people, I'm only impressed by you♫

Don't worry.

In this life,

♫I'll carry out this reckless love and stick to my word for life♫

I'll always be by your side.

♫You're like a poetic song♫

♫One intersection is engraved in my heart♫

♫No matter the torrential rain along the way, after a thousand twists and turns♫

♫My heart remains as it was, guarding the corner♫

Young Lady, whose note is this?

This is Third Brother's handwriting.

Where did Eldest Madam's painting go?

Young Lady.

Young Lady.

Old Madam suddenly returned to the mansion last night.

Wasn't Grandmother

supposed to return from the mountains only in a few more days?

I have no idea.

Old Madam wants you

to go to Chengjing Hall now.

Old Madam.

Madam Zheng.

What happened

to Minglan at the villa

back then?

Second Master,

I swear on my life,

that Eldest Madam did not wrong the Luo family.

Ungrateful wretch.

I'm not lying.

Everything I said is true.

Madam Chen helped me

pay off my gambling debts.

I just want to survive.

Nonsense!

Mama Zheng,

so Mrs. An

wasn't telling the truth,

was she?

Seventh Miss,

Eldest Madam

definitely did not do

anything to wrong the Luo family.

It was the Luo family who wronged her.

It's not your place to speak about the Luo family's affairs.

Madam Zheng.

I advise you to tell the truth.

Otherwise, I'll beat you until you do.

Father,

Mama Zheng is elderly,

she can't withstand a beating.

We've barely asked a few questions,

how can you resort to violence already?

Mother.

if Madam Zheng were willing to speak,

she wouldn't have kept it hidden until now.

This matter concerns the bloodline of our Luo family.

We can't just gloss over it.

Mama Zheng.

I beg you, please say it.

We've suffered so much over these years.

We've done everything we could!

You ungrateful wretch!

Have you forgotten how Eldest Madam

treated you back then?

Tell me the truth.

Tell me the truth!

You won't speak, will you?

Fine.

Butler Bai!

Yes, sir.

Take her away.

Beat her severely.

Beat her within an inch of her life.

Yes, sir.

Stop!

Get away!

Let go of Mama Zheng!

You want to interfere, huh?

Take her away too!

Who dares to touch Yining?

Let go of me!

Who told you to stop?

Since when

has Lin Hairu been in charge of this household?

Beat them!

Who dares?

-Let go! -Stop!

What?

You don't listen to me anymore?

Ridiculous!

Mother.

I only want to know the truth.

I...

Grandmother.

Mother.

This is all because of me.

I am willing to go to the woodshed.

Yining.

Excuse me,

have you seen this person?

No, I haven't.

Thank you.

Hello,

I'd like to ask you something.

About a decade ago,

in this area,

were there any bandits around?

Yes, there were.

Indeed, there were.

Based on what those two elderly said,

that seems to be what happened.

Just as I thought.

This place is only

three or four li away from Peach Blossom Villa.

It's even closer if you take the mountain path.

I suppose

the soldiers who kidnapped Madam Gu

must have been part of this group.

We must find out

who was leading the troops back then.

Understood.

Mama Zheng!

Go...

Mama Zheng.

Mama Zheng...

Seventh Miss.

I am useless.

I couldn't protect you.

Please don't say that.

I brought the trouble

upon you.

Seventh Miss.

I

only hope that

you won't blame Eldest Madam.

What do you mean by that?

My...

My birth father...

I don't know that either.

But...

don't hate Eldest Madam.

Before she went to the villa,

she had already divorced Second Master.

She said

that man

treated her very well.

He was definitely not a scoundrel

nor a lecher.

At first,

Eldest Madam was concerned about the family's reputation

so she refused to go with him.

After she came back,

she found out she was pregnant.

When she went to look for him again,

he was nowhere to be found.

This is

what she asked me to give you

on her deathbed.

I was afraid it would bring you trouble,

so I took it away.

Now...

I'm returning it to you.

No matter what,

Eldest Madam

cared only about you.

She just wanted to stay in the villa forever,

to watch you grow up.

Mama Zheng,

you've suffered so much

because of me.

If Father asks about it,

since it's the truth,

please tell him honestly.

I promised Eldest Madam.

I'll keep my word even if it kills me.

I have already reported this to the authorities.

The officers are waiting outside the dwelling.

Aren't you afraid

that I'll spread the Luo family's scandals

for everyone to know?

As for the first household,

those three children are your own flesh and blood.

Their future

is in your hands.

When you appear in court,

consider carefully

what you're going to say.

Old Madam!

Be it the first or second household,

they are both your descendants!

Yet you've always favored the second household.

Even now,

you're threatening the first household?

Listen to me.

You are no longer part of the Luo family.

The name Chen Lan will never be associated with the Luo family ever again.

Luo Chengwen!

Are you just going to let your wife and children

be trampled upon?

Are you even a man?

Are you?

Do you know

that all of this

is because of you?

It's all your fault!

Chen Lan.

Let's end it here.

We've been married for 30 years,

but from this day forward,

our marriage

is over.

You should leave now.

Let go of me!

I can walk out on my own!

Old Madam.

The Luo family

will face retribution!

Mother.

Mother.

Mother.

Don't go...

Mother...

Mother...

Mother, don't go.

Mother...

Mother...

Don't go.

Mother!

Mother!

Mama Zheng.

Is anyone out there?

Mama Zheng has fainted.

Please bring some medicine.

I'm afraid I can't make that decision.

My Lord.

Getting so angry is bad for your health.

Even the Old Madam is so upset that

she had to take heart medicine.

Go call Physician Li.

My Lord.

Please release Yining.

What for?

What for?

To embarrass us?

This isn't Yining's fault.

She didn't deceive you either.

She's still just a child.

Her mother and her deceived me

for all these years.

She is a disgrace

that Gu Minglan left me.

To make me a laughingstock!

This is between you adults.

Why blame it on a child?

Lin Hairu, I'm warning you,

stop speaking for her.

I only know that

Yining has called me

Mother for many years.

I can't let her suffer.

Although she's not my biological child,

she's like my own.

Is blood relation

really that important to you?

Of course it's important!

If I had known earlier,

I wouldn't have let her

live in this world.

How can you be so

heartless?

What did you say?

Who are you calling heartless?

Who?

Get out.

Get out!

Fifth Sister,

how is Auntie Qiao doing?

She's in prison.

What good outcome could there be?

I've checked the penal code.

For accomplices who turn themselves in, the sentence is reduced by three levels.

The sentence shouldn't be too harsh.

Her health is already weak.

I don't know

if she can endure

these years of imprisonment.

Xuanyuan,

you must study hard.

When you pass the imperial examination in the future

and become an official,

perhaps...

you'll be able to get Mother out!

All right.

I'll get going then.

Father.

Father,

if such a scandal

were to spread,

what would become of the Luo family

and your reputation, Father?

This matter is not for you to concern yourself with.

I know

I shouldn't interfere in this matter,

but I just feel it's unfair to you, Father,

to have been deceived for so many years.

Everyone says I'm heartless and unfilial,

I never thought you'd be the first one

to feel it's unfair to me.

Grandmother and Madam

have always favored Yining.

In this matter,

they naturally want to downplay it

and make it disappear.

It's quite possible

they still want Yining

to continue being the Seventh Miss of the Luo family.

Impossible.

That's why, Father,

we must take advantage of Grandmother's

bedridden condition

to resolve this matter quickly.

I spoke out of turn.

I understand. You may go now.

Sir,

I'd like to ask you about someone.

I think I've seen this painting before.

Do you remember

who was looking for

the woman in this painting?

Oh, right.

It must have been over a decade ago.

The person looking for her...

Do you remember what the situation was?

I believe it was a general.

I remember

his soldiers called him...

General Wei.

Thank you.

A general surnamed Wei in the current dynasty...

it can only be Duke Ying.

That's right.

This Duke Ying has never married to this day.

He doesn't even have a concubine.

There are many rumors in town.

Could it be...

he's been waiting for Madam Gu all this time?

We'll only know if we ask him directly.

Let's go.

[Duke Ying's Mansion]

I am Luo Shenyuan.

I request an audience with Duke Ying.

Do you have a name card?

I came in a hurry and didn't have time to prepare one.

Please announce my arrival for me.

I have something

very important

that I must personally deliver to Duke Ying.

Without a name card, you cannot enter.

My Lord!

I know who you've been searching

for years!

So you're the Young Master of the Luo family.

No wonder you have

Mr. Luo's testimony.

Regarding the testimony,

I must thank you

for your assistance.

You shouted at me earlier,

saying you know who I'm looking for.

Who is it?

Who is the person in this painting?

Her name is Gu Minglan.

She was once the Eldest Madam of the second household of the Luo family.

Gu Minglan?

However, she divorced quite early.

She later moved

to live in Peach Blossom Villa.

Fenghuang Mountain?

It's her.

it is indeed her.

♫What is there to fear in the mysterious maze?♫

Where is she now?

She has already died from poisoning.

Died from poisoning?

♫The heartbeat holds the fall of light♫

Who harmed her?

The person who poisoned her is now in prison.

Gu Minglan left behind a daughter.

Find the pulse of time and go deeper.

A daughter?

She is the Seventh Miss of the Luo family.

Her name is Luo Yining.

♫For you, for me, and for seeking an answer♫

It has now been confirmed

that she is not of Luo family bloodline.

She was conceived

during the time Gu Minglan was abducted.

♫I'd rather jump into a fire just to break through the night♫

Check over there!

Go!

♫I would rather fall and reveal my destiny♫

♫I would rather it be in vain and let me be your support♫

♫How would I be afraid to end up as bubbles?♫

♫Love is drifting side by side; in the end, there will be a destination♫

How are you? Are you alright?

Is there anything over there?

No!

You guys go that way!

Don't worry about me. You go quickly.

I won't leave you behind.

♫Even if I'm just a speck of dust♫

Go!

If we die, we die together.

♫I’ll still dance and shine on my own♫

Go!

♫Through endless doubts and storms♫

♫Turn into amber for you, for me, for promise♫

Be careful.

Let's take a rest.

♫I’d rather achieve nothing as long as it fulfills the vastness of love♫

♫How would I be afraid to end up as bubbles?♫

I really hope that one day...

our hearts will be free from worry and the world will be at peace.

♫Love is drifting side by side, eternally binding you and me♫

After I eliminate the bandits,

I will surely bring you peace.

Luo Yining...

My daughter–

Where is Luo Yining now?

[Everlasting Glory]

Kneel down!

According to our dynasty's laws,

adulterers shall be sentenced to one and a half years of imprisonment,

and for married women, the sentence is two years.

Gu Minglan, as a wife of the Luo family,

had an affair with another man and gave birth to an illegitimate daughter.

She concealed this fact and failed to report it.

Therefore,

her illegitimate daughter Yining shall be punished

with twenty strokes of the cane

and be expelled from the family, never to return to the capital!

My mother did not have an affair.

I haven't done anything wrong either.

You can't subject me to extrajudicial punishment.

Take her away.

-Yes. -Yes.

-Go. -Go.

Hurry up.

Second Master!

Second Master!

Duke Ying has surrounded the Meditation Hall with his men.

Help her back to her room to rest.

Duke Ying.

What exactly is going on here?

Yining is my daughter.

Touching her is offending me.

So the person Gu Minglan was having an affair with

is Duke Ying.

When you were doing this,

didn't you consider

your own status?

An affair? With whom?

As far as I know,

before I met Gu Minglan,

she was already divorced.

How could it be an affair?

Divorced?

I did indeed

write a divorce letter back then,

but my mother withheld it.

[Luo Chengzhang, Xin]

Is this it?

She signed it too...

I

have not wronged

Luo family.

Gu Minglan was my late wife.

Yining

is the heiress of Duke Ying's household.

From today on,

if anyone spreads even half a word of gossip about her,

I will not be lenient.

Young Master,

if you hadn't come back,

I was about to go to Liuhe Tavern

to look for you.

Be quiet for a moment now.

I've brought my most

prized medicines.

Quick,

apply them to Seventh Niece.

All right.

She'll be all right, won't she?

You were in such a terrible state back then

and I still managed to save you.

She'll be fine for sure.
