The islamic community of Shreveport is really small.

They're very faithful, Very tight-knit,

And very peaceful.

That was a beautiful service.

And talking to the leader Of the congregation.

On some sundays, We would have a potluck,

And after the sermon was over, We would sit down and eat.

We bring our children On sunday.

They like to play.

You know, they like to Get out and run

And chase each other And have fun.

My wife baked some maamoul. It's your favorite, right?

We found a dead body.

I couldn't see any wounds Or anything.

He's not breathing.

Looking at a dead body,

And you recognize the life That has been taken away.

And you start to question What happened.

Who did it? For what reason?

This particular sunday morning,

I missed church service, But I went afterwards.

It's a place Where I could go to reflect,

Gather my thoughts, pray, And meditate on life.

I think when you get closer To your spiritual guide,

It kind of puts things In perspective.

You realize that everything Is bigger than you,

And you're just a part of it.

It's kind of a humbling Experience.

Hold on a second.

This is demery.

While I'm in prayer, I get a call from dispatch.

A body has been found outside A shreveport mosque.

All right, I'm on my way.

When I learn that there's a dead Body outside of the mosque,

Wasn't sure if it was some Sort of religious-type killing

Or some sort of attack On that religion, islam.

Werner park is a typical inner City shreveport neighborhood.

It's known for burglaries, Robberies, and violent crime,

So it's not out of the ordinary

For something to happen In werner park.

-what's happening, tom? -hey, rod.

So, what do we got here?

It's a body found by a couple Of the members

Of the mosque After their services.

Detective turner can Take you to it.

-thanks, man. -yes, sir.

Demery: When I get to the crime scene,

I meet with detective turner. Turner was a veteran.

He'd been around for a while, so He was a pretty good detective.

-turner. -demery, you made it.

So, what do we got?

Well, not much.

There's no I.D. On the victim,

And the cause of death Seems to be some time of trauma.

Okay.

We'll know more When the coroner gets here.

All right, Let's take a look at the body.

Demery: in this particular case, Turner is the lead detective.

My job is to be secondary.

I back him up And follow his lead.

At the crime scene, The first thing that I noticed

Was the victim Was laying facedown.

His shirt's rolled up Towards his shoulders,

And his arms Are above his head.

So, the body was found In this position?

Yes. The ems, They didn't move him.

Demery: the victim also has Blood around his neck,

And there's grass on his back.

Look like somebody moved him.

It's pretty obvious He had been moved.

The positioning of his shirt And his arms above his head

Indicated that he probably Was dragged by his feet.

The question now is whether Or not he was killed there

Or somewhere else And dumped there.

The other question is,

Why would somebody dump his body By the mosque?

Hey, demery, check this out.

Examining The crime scene closer,

We find a trail of blood From the body

That leads around the mosque.

So, looks like He was killed here.

At the end of the trail,

There is pooled blood And a head scarf do-rag.

That suggests that he was killed At that location

'cause the blood Had exited the body

And pooled For a period of time.

Dragged around the corner Out of sight.

Coroner's back here. Needs to see you.

Yes, at least One gunshot wound...Here.

Okay.

Obviously, we'll learn more From the autopsy,

But I'd like to flip him over To see if there's an I.D.

There's absolutely nothing To tell investigators

Who this guy is.

That makes things 100 times More difficult.

On the bright side, We got a possible motive.

The pockets are turned Inside out.

That suggests that someone Went through his pockets

And removed whatever contents

And didn't take time To put his pockets back in.

Well, look, we know he was Robbed, at least, right?

But maybe he was killed for Some other reason then robbed.

At this point, The questions are --

Does the victim Belong to this mosque?

Is this some sort of Religious-type crime?

Or is this simply Just a random robbery?

And see if anybody knows him.

He's clearly shaken.

He's visibly nervous And obviously so.

He knows a lot of people In this neighborhood,

And he doesn't know Who this guy is at all.

Demery: After speaking with the imam,

I'm pretty convinced That this victim has nothing

To do with the mosque.

He's probably a victim Of opportunity

For someone who was In the vicinity.

There are some that describe Hearing gunshots

Late that night,

But gunshots were pretty Commonplace

In that neighborhood.

When turner and I return To the crime scene,

Csi has found nothing.

At this point, we don't have A lot to go on.

We have an unidentified body, No real evidence --

Physical or statement-wise.

No witnesses. No one saw anything.

All we have is a dead body.

That's a rough place to start.

We have no idea The identity of the victim.

But the fact remains That someone's been killed,

And we need to find out Who killed him.

We're praying Those fingerprints come back.

I looked through Missing-persons reports

For physical descriptions

And photographs of people Who were missing in hopes

To find someone Who matches our victim.

I have updates.

Well, that's music to my ears.

When turner returns From the autopsy,

I learn that the victim was shot Not only in the back,

But he was shot In the back of the neck.

The shot to the back of the neck Was the fatal shot.

And there's more.

Csi is able to get a match To the fingerprints,

And they identify him As 46-year-old frederick madden.

The fact that we have An identity now,

It dramatically changes The investigation.

Now we have somewhere to go, Something to do.

According to this,

Frederick madden Lives on randolph street.

Good. Let's start there.

The first step would be to make A death notification

And begin victimology, Finding out who this victim is,

Where he was, and who the last Person was seen with him.

Is this Frederick madden's home?

Yes. Where is he?

Ma'am, can we come inside, Please?

Um, yeah.

The woman is deborah taylor, And she is madden's girlfriend.

She last saw him when he left The home the night prior,

But she started to worry When he didn't return home

At all that night.

At this point, we have to inform Deborah that mr. Madden is dead.

Ma'am, I'm afraid I have to tell you

Mr. Madden has been murdered.

Murdered?

When the police told me That they found frederick,

I couldn't believe it.

I wanted to cry.

Deborah's clearly devastated By hearing the news.

And I understand What she's going through.

That feeling of realization That someone is gone

And they're never coming back Is pretty overwhelming.

Can I ask you, What was your relationship

With frederick like?

We were just getting our life Started together.

Frederick and I hadn't Been together too long.

We had just recently moved Into our house.

Everything was going great Between us.

Deborah tells us That he's not a violent person.

He's not someone who's involved In any type of lifestyle

That would bring this to him.

Do you know where He was last night?

His best friend had just died A few days ago,

And he gone to pay Respects to his family.

Okay.

Frederick was having a hard time With his friend's death.

He did tell me that he wished It was him

That had died Instead of his friend,

And I said, "Don't say that."

Deborah told us, at about 9:30,

Frederick called her And asked her for a ride home,

But she was on The other side of town.

So he told her he would Just walk home,

Said it was only 15 minutes away.

But he obviously Never came home that night.

Again, we're really sorry For your loss,

As we're leaving Ms. Taylor's home,

We get a call from dispatch.

Someone's called in With some information

That they had witnessed A homicide the night prior.

Really?

It's a shooting Over on hollywood avenue?

Hollywood avenue and where The body was found

Are not far from each other.

Yeah, that sounds promising.

Tell you what, why don't you Bring him down to the station?

We'll be there in about 10 minutes.

When we get something like this,

It's probably Pretty good information.

Well, looks like our day Just got a hell of a lot better.

This could be something That blows the case wide open.

Demery: detective turner and I Are investigating

The murder of 46-year-old Frederick madden.

Now we've learned there may be A witness to the murder,

17-year-old akeem tisdam.

We bring tisdam Inside the office.

Take a seat, akeem.

My first impression is that He does know

Something about this murder,

And for whatever reason, He wants to talk.

So I want to thank you For coming in to talk to us.

Right.

Turner's the lead investigator, So he's gonna run the interview.

My concern is that his people Skills are --

They lack a little.

And this kid's already nervous.

All right, so, what did you Witness last night?

First off, I got robbed.

-you got robbed? -yeah.

Tisdam claims that he had been The victim of a random robbery.

He said he'd been robbed Of his only $5

Outside of a convenience store.

Afterwards, he bumped into some Guys that he knows as t and red.

As tisdam is telling his story,

Who should walk by But frederick madden.

Tisdam tells them, this is The guy that robbed me earlier.

Tisdam claims he refused To retaliate,

But his friends decided They would retaliate for him.

Tisdam watched as they Held him at gunpoint,

Robbed him, And shot him dead.

T shot him in the back. Red went through his pockets.

And where exactly Did this happen at?

Next to the mosque, Werner park.

Tisdam provided Very intimate details --

The location, Where the victim was shot,

And the fact That the victim was robbed.

There's no way that tisdam Is not involved in this murder

If not completely Responsible for it.

It's really ridiculous To believe

That someone would be Robbed of $5

And then two Random acquaintances

Would retaliate on your behalf By committing murder.

Forced tisdam to go Through the man's pockets,

And drew then shot the man.

I knew he had robbing On his mind but not killing.

It messed me up, And that's why I'm here.

Then why did you lie to us About t and red?

I'm scared of drew.

He told me to keep my mouth shut Or I'd be dead, too.

Tisdam admits that he made up The whole story

And the names t and red

Because he was afraid To implicate drew.

This drew person may just be Another name that he made up.

The only thing that I'm very certain of

Is that tisdam Is part of this murder.

What's drew's real name?

I been living with him For awhile.

-andrew davey? -you live with him?

How old is drew?

I don't know, Early 30s, maybe.

Where's drew's gun at?

Probably back at lily's.

Tisdam says the gun belongs To drew's girlfriend, lily.

The gun is described As a .9mm caliber.

The brand is hi-point.

Demery: We find a 33-year-old male,

Andrew davey, Who is a sex offender.

He was convicted Of child molestation,

And he's a real person.

Yeah, that's him.

Tisdam, stand up.

We then charge tisdam With second-degree murder.

He thought that he could come in And sell us a story

And he'd get to walk.

Because he admitted to being

A part of a murder And a robbery.

Whether he tried to minimize His involvement

And say that he was afraid Or someone peer-pressured

After we secure tisdam, We obtain a search warrant

For the home that Tisdam shares with davey.

We're looking for something To link one

Or both of them to the murder Of frederick madden.

When we go to davey's house, We want to be prepared.

The fact is, is he's been Implicated in the murder,

And we don't know How dangerous he is.

We're gonna approach With extreme caution.

Has davey found out That we're looking for him?

Demery: after we kick the door, We go in the house,

Keeping in mind that the suspect May be in there hidden.

He may be ready to ambush us.

Now we search the house Systematically.

We're looking for firearms, Blood evidence,

Or anything that can give us Evidence of this crime.

Detective turner finds a folder That's labeled

"Important papers."

Inside the folder, There's a lease to the house

And sex-offender registration Papers with davey's name on it.

But the papers Have a different address.

Davey might be hiding Out there.

Worth a shot.

So now we go to that address Hoping to find davey

Or at least a lead On where he may be.

Man on tv: the animal Tries to twist away...

We're looking for andrew davey.

-he around? -uh...

The door was answered By a young man

By the name of cordaro morris.

Uh...Yeah.

Hey, drew!

Andrew davey, we're with The shreveport police.

We'd like to ask you Some questions.

Davey doesn't look Thrilled to see us,

But he's compliant and agrees

To go down to the police station And talk to us.

At this point, I'm interested In finding out what davey knows.

I want to know exactly What he and tisdam did.

Or was it just tisdam?

What were you doing On saturday night?

Not much, Had some folks around.

Davey said saturday he stayed Home with his girlfriend, lily.

Tisdam, And his friend cordaro,

He said that They cooked hamburgers

And went to bed early Because they were planning to go

To church The following morning.

Did you leave the house At any point during the evening?

Nope, I was there all night. Just ask lily.

During davey's interrogation,

He's not really giving Turner and demery anything.

He's not admitting to being Anywhere near that crime scene.

Now, that, I couldn't tell you.

You don't even know Your girlfriend's last name.

He told us you robbed And murdered a man,

Turner finally confronts davey With tisdam's story.

Davey's response was the same.

He didn't go anywhere With tisdam.

He was home all night With his girlfriend,

And he could ask her If he didn't believe it.

I would ask your girlfriend, But you don't even know

What her last name is.

Well, at least we agree On one thing.

Demery: I think turner was frustrated,

And he wanted to just vent.

The problem with that is He comes off as very judgmental,

And that completely Alienates the suspect.

There's no reason for him To come at you that way.

Man, I don't need this. I don't even need to be here.

At this point, I don't know If we can repair

This relationship Or rebuild this rapport.

When detective turner returns

To the interrogation room, He's not alone.

He has a sex-crimes detective With him.

-you're under arrest. -for what?

Failing to register As a sex offender.

-you got to be kidding me. -cuff him.

Since davey didn't register His current address

With the sex offender registry,

Turner can charge him With this collateral charge

And throw him in jail.

Demery: I'm not big on Technical errors on paperwork.

It's just not my method.

Turner knows he has Nothing on davey.

I think he's reaching For things.

All we have is tisdam Pointing the finger at davey.

To prove who's responsible For this murder,

We need that gun.

So turner has decided to charge Him with an unrelated crime.

So we go back to davey's Girlfriend, lily's, house.

Morris, we meet again.

And our hope is that she will Allow us to search the home

Because tisdam says the murder Weapon belongs to lily.

When we meet with lily hayes, She seems a little nervous

And doesn't really want To talk to us.

Mr. Davey has been taken Into custody.

I have a gun for my protection.

She tells us that she has A .9mm hi-point pistol,

And it's the same-type weapon Described by tisdam.

I ask lily outright If we could see her gun.

And has no idea What happened to it.

So, it's been reported that Your gun was used in a homicide.

A homicide? Nah.

While turner gets The search underway,

I want to know If davey's alibi holds up,

So I ask lily what She was doing saturday night.

I was at drew's place.

Who all was there?

It was myself, akeem, drew, And cordaro.

This cordaro, cordaro morris?

We learned that cordaro morris Dates one of lily's daughters,

But he lives with andrew davey And akeem tisdam.

Did anybody leave at any time During the night?

Well, them boys always Coming and going.

Lily does corroborate Davey's story about them

Being at home Eating hamburgers,

But she does say that Throughout the night,

Davey, morris, and tisdam left.

Where'd they go?

I don't know.

She's really vague on where they Went and when they returned.

At the very least, she's poked A hole in davey's alibi.

While we're talking to lily,

The officers find a shell Casing inside the house.

It's from the first time I shot a gun last year.

I was gonna put it Around my neck.

Lily says the .9mm shell casing Is from her gun,

So that shell casing's Collected for evidence.

We need to bring him down To the police station

And interrogate him.

He's been implicated By davey and lily.

Lily already told us that you Were out with davey and tisdam.

Morris changes his story

And says that he did Leave the house,

But he denies being involved In any murder or robbery.

About what time Did you guys leave?

Not too sure, exactly.

Listening to all this, I see Turner is getting frustrated,

And he begins to show that.

Hey, man. What do you say I go grab tisdam

And bring him next door And see what he's got to say?

Mack: Demery comes up with a plan.

"Let's go check tisdam out of The jail, bring him over here,

And let them play Off each other."

It's a very successful tactic

When you have suspects Talking because eventually,

They're all gonna point The finger at each other.

The other reason is 'cause I want to talk to them alone.

I want to try to rebuild That rapport.

So I go to the jail, And I pick up tisdam.

And as I'm transporting him Back to the office

For interrogation, He begins to talk.

So, tell me about, davey, man. You guys close?

Yeah, he's like a father to me.

Tisdam tells me That he first met

Andrew davey a few years ago

When he was living On the streets.

Hey, man, I'm --

I'm real sorry, but think You can spare any change?

Man, you're too young To be out here.

Where's your family at?

I ain't got none left.

Won't you come with me.

Tisdam said that he started Going to davey's church,

And davey eventually Gave him a place to stay.

This is cordaro.

He's staying here, too, Until he gets himself together.

Hey, man, I really Appreciate this, man.

It sounded like cordaro Was in a bind, too.

He had a baby, and he also Needed a place to stay.

According to tisdam, davey was Doing the good christian thing

By opening his doors to them, But I think davey is a predator,

And that's evident by the fact That he was a child molester.

He's a person who obviously had A pattern of manipulating people

That are younger And more vulnerable than he is.

So, uh, is this about them White boys?

Then out of nowhere, Tisdam asks,

"Is this about those White guys?"

And I'm wondering, "What in The world is he talking about?"

What white boys?

Before he shot that black dude.

Tisdam says that prior To robbing and shooting madden,

Davey attempted to rob Two white guys in an suv

That was parked.

Tisdam says when davey Pulled the gun out,

The white guys pulled off, And davey began firing shots.

He hit them?

I don't know.

Me and cordaro bounced.

So cordaro was there?

Yeah, he was.

Got it.

And I'm wondering What's going on, you know.

Are there other victims?

Were these guys On a crime spree?

I have a lot of questions Racing through my mind now.

After talking to tisdam,

I go join turner in

The interrogation room With morris.

-hey. -how's tisdam?

Very talkative.

Seems like drew was trying To carjack two white guys

And that cordaro here Was there.

Yeah, that's true.

Demery: he cracks and admits To being at both crime scenes.

He corroborates everything We learned from tisdam,

But he adds one important detail

About the murder Of frederick madden.

Look, man.

After drew shot the guy, We took off.

About 15 minutes later, He made us go back.

-so you went back? -yeah.

And that's when drew made me Lift the dead guy's legs

'cause he was looking For his gloves or some [bleep].

Morris explains that after The murder of madden,

And makes them return To the scene of the murder.

So, they drag frederick Madden's body

All the way behind the mosque Where it couldn't be seen.

They clean up shell casings And whatever else they can find

That may implicate them

And go back to the house.

They took the firearm Back to lily,

And lily's daughter, larika, Decided to get rid of it.

She smashed it into pieces With an axe.

I believe that davey, morris,

And tisdam were all At the scene of both crimes.

I believe that davey was The trigger man

And was the person That fired the shot

That killed frederick madden.

But there's no proof that davey Committed this murder.

In the end, Akeem tisdam pled guilty

To the robbery Of frederick madden

And was sentenced To 10 years in prison.

Cordaro morris and larika ford

Pled guilty to accessory After the fact.

Morris got five years, and ford Got two years in prison.

Andrew davey pled guilty To the attempted armed robbery

Of shane payne and tommy young

And got sentenced To 49 1/2 years in prison.
