And, I wanted him to
be happy all the time.

So I adopted him and ended
up finding my best friend.

visits, and he loves Christmas.

and he loves to take

naps by the Christmas tree.

not just finding a warmer

spot in the wintertime?

trees around each year.

to own the shelter?

I started out like
you, volunteering

more to have something to
do as a teen after school.

The founder of the shelter
was a neighbor of mine, Cathy.

She was always kind.

And she had the biggest
heart, you know.

She never minded
that I came by,

and pretty soon, she asked
me to work there for real.

So you've been working
there since high school?

No, I was away for a
few years for college,

but I came back one summer.

And by then, Cathy's
health wasn't so good,

and the shelter needed
a lot of attention.

She didn't want
to see it closed.

And she always said
that she felt like it

was what God wanted her to do.

But since she
couldn't do it all,

maybe I was meant to take over.

She asked me to run it.

It's a lot of pressure.

Yeah, I felt like
that sometimes.

She passed away a
couple of years ago

and left it to me
to keep it going.

And I haven't looked back.

So you never wanted
to do something else?

I studied art for a bit.

I do like painting and pottery

and things like that.

But I felt like this
was more important.

It's not like I planned it
or thought it would become
