You've got to make a build
that's perfectly weighted

to be hovering from these balloons.

..we make Lego builds fly.

They're the only team
going for something that moves.

This elimination build

Yeah, we're planning on holding
onto it for a little bit longer.

I mean, last episode,

you believed you were
going to be in the bottom two...

and you decided not to play
the platinum brick. Huge move.

And now, there's only
five teams left.

Scott and Owen, last build,
there was some tense times.

How are we feeling?

Really hoping we won't hear
that elimination word today.

What did you learn last episode?

Um... Don't smash a build
halfway through.

I think planning.

Alright. There are two builds today.

Ooh!

The first build, the winner
will get a huge advantage

going into the second build.

The second build is an elimination.

I know it's not the word
that you wanted to hear, Owen.

You sunk about three feet.

BRICKMAN: Down to four.

Would you like to know
what the first build is?

Alright. Well, it does have
something to do

with these extremely powerful
helium weather balloons...

to my professional-grade
stunt vest.

The first build today
is called, "Will it fly?"

Alright? You will be building
something to be suspended

by one of these balloons.

That's so cool.
I want to give you an example.

I want to show you how powerful
these helium balloons are.

Brickman, are you ready?

Are you guys ready to see
something truly spectacular?

Yeah.

Pull it down. Pull it down a bit.

Obviously, I'm 90 kg.

I am far too heavy
for these balloons to lift.

So, behind me, you will see
five giant helium weather balloons.

Each team gets one balloon.

You've got to make a build
that's perfectly weighted

to be hovering, suspended
from the weather balloon.

So, it's got to be off the ground
but below a height limit

and it's got to maintain
that altitude for ten seconds.

We're going to do
a ten second countdown.

The builds that hover
will be judged on aesthetics.

OK, that is how you'll win
the advantage.

It's going to be a fun one.
Brickman, what are you looking for?

The interesting part
about today's build

is you need to put some thought
into every single Lego brick

that gets placed on your Lego model.

It's going to push
your technical ability.

A loose brick falling off

will spell the end
of you in this build.

Alrighty, there is a lot

So, we're going to have
this astronaut

and he's fallen out of the airlock
of his spaceship

and he's drifting upside down
through space

and there's this rope
tantalisingly close

and he's reaching
and trying to grab the rope

to pull himself back
into the spaceship.

Kind of like us and winning
this challenge.

Tantalisingly close, hopefully.

Hand, space-legs.

I'll Technic frame this.

If our astronaut is too light,

we can just throw bricks
inside his torso

until it's perfectly buoyant.

That's the plan.

Let's get some Technic bits
and start blocking something out.

is a mythical creature.

Essentially, a horse with wings.

Then we can play with the wings
for weight.

We can add and subtract
plates from the wings

to allow it to float
rather than to sink or to fly away.

So, I'm building the head and Dave
is building the body frame.

We haven't built pink yet.

Beautiful pegasus hair.

which is pretty significant to us.

This is where it gets interesting.

But we don't want to become
complacent,

we don't want to rest on anything.

We've just got to make sure
that we do the best we do

and what do we need to have
while we build, Gus?

This is a fun one. Will it fly?

It's a little bit like the hanging
brick challenge we had last year.

Except much harder because you've
got to get it perfectly weighted.

Or as we can see, these balloons
can be pinned to the ground.

BRICKMAN: Correct. That's right.

Each individual Lego brick
needs to have a reason

why it's there because adding weight
and in some cases, that's bad.

I hear you say all the time, like,
"How well do you know the bricks?"

Now comes, "How well do you know
the weight of Lego?"

I don't think anyone would've been
expecting that,

coming into this season.
BRICKMAN: Definitely not.

But today, that is what will be
the difference

between us seeing
five amazing flying models

or for the first time
ever on Lego Masters,

going, "Well, you're
all disqualified"

"and no one gets the advantage."

So, it's kind of like...

as Harry is holding on for dear life

So, it's going to be
the marvellous man

GABBY: Our pilot has to be
the cliched early man of flight.

I want a big bushy moustache
and flying goggles.

RYAN: I really want to have flapping
wings and I want his legs to pump.

Are we going power functions?

Not at all. Yeah, we are.

I'm worried about the whole weight
idea with the power functions.

I'd probably, if I were you,
test a lot and see how you go.

The battery pack
is a pretty heavy item.

Yeah, they're pretty...

But I really want to make this fly
and look visually impressive.

It's time to take a risk
and I guess worst-case scenario,

it just looks like a flying machine
that doesn't fly.

we've ever had basket weaving

in the difficult to weave

Today, we have to build something
that will float in the air

for ten seconds.

OK, do you want to go
and test this now?

If more than one team

manage to build something
that floats for the ten seconds,

then it would be judged
on aesthetics.

'Cause it's pretty light.

Yeah. Well, it needs to be

'cause it's got heaps of stuff
to go in it.

So, we're pretty happy
that what we're building

at the moment feels pretty light,
so we're just going to test it.

BRICKMAN: Ooh.

So, you're already too heavy
without any fruit at all.

It plummets to the Earth.

Ballooning tragedy.

That's going to be a terrible
picnic basket if it's empty.

Yeah.

We wanted to build
a picnic basket full of yummy food

and a little creepy crawlies
but now it's too heavy.

because you're kind of almost done.

a couple of legs.

OWEN: The most important thing
is to make this float.

So, we have to be testing.

It has to be perfect.

If it doesn't look perfect,

It means we have to restart.

We can't make the arms shorter
or take a little bit out of one leg

or have him as an amputee

is 'Can it fly?'

You've got to try and make
your Lego creation float perfectly

for ten seconds.

That's hovering there.

If it touches the ground,
you're disqualified.

If it goes too high, disqualified.

So, you try and balance
that weight perfectly.

OWEN: Dude, we're not good.
The whole thing is too big.

We trash this and we scale
the whole thing down.

We start again pretty much.

Yeah, it's way too heavy.
Oh, buddy.

We've just tested our man

and he is too heavy already
and we're halfway through,

so we're ripping to shreds
and scaling it all right down.

I'm not sure if we've got
enough time to finish everything

but we're about to find out.

And then we undid it all
and now, we have to do it all again.

But now, it's going to be smaller,
so it might be a bit faster.

which means that we are not using

from getting the right floatiness

using the remaining minutes
to find the perfect amount of bricks

to match the buoyancy
of your balloons.

It's literally the weight
of that carabiner.

OK. So, we need like a little bit
but not too much.

We have to take and remove
and replace one-by-one studs

on the side of the build.

It's not even an elimination
and it's pretty tense.

That doesn't bode well

In one minute's time
it'll be hands off.

I will count to ten
and in those ten seconds,

your model cannot fly away
and it cannot touch the ground.

It needs to hover for ten seconds.

the builds on aesthetics.

by our fellow astronaut.

The world watched in excitement

but the astronaut did touch
the Earth with two seconds to go...

Brickman, what's your post-mortem?

You guys know
you're disqualified, right?

So, you can't win the advantage. OK.
Damn.

First off, yes, there's the whole
too much weight, not enough weight.

You had a little bit of trouble
during the build.

There was a lot of this rebuild
action.

I'm getting the feeling
this is modus operandi,

normal standard for you guys

to rebuild Lego models
halfway through a challenge.

Yep, apparently so.

What's the thoughts on rebuilding?

I mean, the next build's
an elimination.

I think this one was a clear-cut,
it had to be rebuilt,

it was too heavy, it was too large.

The last was more of a frantic
rebuild.

Well, we look forward to seeing
what happens in the elimination.

We've just built a picnic basket
that is floating away,

filled with treats and goodies
and little creepy crawlies.

thanks to the weight.

of the challenge

and I've got to say,

that you're actually using
the balloon in the Lego model.

It's fantastic.

that you've chosen.

You can clearly see what's going on.

One of the worst flying donkeys
we've ever seen

but one of the most beautiful
pegasuses.

The pegasus is a mythical creature

that's just essentially
a horse with wings.

(HORSE NEIGHS)

I think you've captured the pose
that is a pegasus

and you kind of gave it
that majestic look.

Yes, like a landing whoosh.

It just feels like it
really gets some air under it

for that like last downdraught
it needs

before coming in for the land.

(LAUGHTER)

Colours are fantastic.

Using those pinks, purples,

to really make it pop
against the white.

Maybe we can pull it off today.

It was a zany idea
right from the beginning

but we thought this will look cool,
this will look cool.

RYAN: Our marvellous man
in his flying machine.

Quite the success.

GABBY: It's flying with a battery
pack, it's moving.

The motion looks great.

It's crazy.

It's amazing it's running off
one motor,

which of course I know how to do
and I can tell you is not easy.

That's some advanced stuff.

Brickman, what are your thoughts?

I love a contraption.

I don't think there's anyone alive
who plays with Lego

who doesn't love a good crazy
bonkers type contraption

and he definitely fits that.

There's actually deceptively
a lot more happening

from a technical perspective
than what you'd think about.

For example, not only using
these chain drives,

there's rubber bands,

which are driving the wheels
and his legs.

I don't think we've really seen
rubber bands used that way

on Lego Masters before.

I'm doing it out the back
a little bit

but no one on the show's done it.

True. Yeah, yeah.

BRICKMAN: The look on his face,

the use of minifigure legs
for his little handlebar moustache,

I think is great
and of those magnifying glasses,

they actually work
and not only goggles but a scarf.

Absolutely had to have
a flying scarf.

This is a great model
and absolutely fits

with what we were thinking
when we laid down this challenge.

So, using "legal tricks" -
to coin Hamish's phrase -

in challenges like this
are almost a necessity.

They do, however,
come at a cost that's usually

aesthetics or technical ability.

In this case, it's aesthetics.

Our eyes are really drawn
to these big, brown pillars -

this huge dock - where, to be
honest, not a lot's happening.

It just needs a reason
to be so tall.

The fisherman's got some
great colour in him,

but the character's face -
it's not showing

the emotion of what
the fisherman's trying to do.

Today, of course, we've had one
of our builds not quite make it,

and they're probably gonna
play the Platinum Brick,

which means,
out of our four teams left,

only two will be in the top two,

and two, of course,
will be in the bottom two -

which puts some fair pressure
on you guys today.

We, sort of, knew we missed the boat

on this pier. Hopefully

a whole heap more colour
into the build as well,

that's missing - is colours.
