Today is the first elimination build.

We're gonna lose the first team
from LEGO Masters.

They will not win 100 grand,

and they will not be in
the running anymore to win

the title of LEGO Masters Australia.

As some of the keener eyes
in the room may have guessed,

today's build is to do with the
globes you see on the benches.

Everybody's picked up a snow globe,

given it a shake and observed
the magical world inside.

Today, each team will be
given their own snow globe

to create whatever
they desire inside.

Then, at the judging,

we will be able to bring it to life
with the magic of real-looking snow!

(CHEERING)

Brickman, what are you looking for
in this build?

Being a snow globe,
you can go a couple of ways.

It can either be contrasting or it
fits in that natural environment.

You can really embrace
the creativity,

perhaps the obscurity
of a snow globe.

What is something
that is totally awesome

that is gonna come to life
with snow?

Real-looking snow.

Real, genuine...
Looking.

..looking snow.

Sarah and Fleur, you guys
obviously have the platinum brick.

You can choose to play it
at the end of the judging.

So, you guys have a lot of power.

I think it's the realisation
that we've had lots and lots of fun,

and now this is a competition
and no-one wants to go home.

is pretty dark.

I wanted to do on the show,

if there was one chance I got,
it would be to do a Christmas build.

Whole point of a snow globe
is the snow.

How are you feeling today?

I love Christmas so much,
it's my favourite time of year,

so what we're doing
is we're going for

the classic
night before Christmas look.

So, the story is Santa's workshop.

Clock's about to strike midnight,

he's about to get the
presents to the kids.

It's a snow blizzard

so they have to get out of there
as quick as they can.

What we're happy about
is we have a clear story.

We just have to make sure,

because we're doing Christmas
and it's kind of predictable,

that it's phenomenal because, if
it's not, it's not gonna be enough.

God, I love Christmas music.

Christmas is pretty great, isn't it?

Mm.

OK, one side of the house.

Mua-ha-ha-ha!

I built some water.

You go him there, him there
and then tree here.

That's the body, and then
the head's gotta be above the body

so it's gotta be up to, like, there.

Alright, Brickman, first elimination.

Now, the idea of a snow globe
is its own little world.

The effect will be amazing
when the snow comes on.

Is that the key to this build, to go,

"You gotta picture this with
swirling flurries around it"?

Correct.

Does what you're creating fit in
the world of a snow globe story?

So, that's basically a rough height.

You should have a great LEGO model
beforehand and the snow enhances it.

Totally, not saves it.

Not saves it, that's the tricky bit.

Just work out
how to get that angry...

I can do it but can I make it do it?

Yeah.

It is either it's a realistic reason
for it being a snow globe

or it's the total opposite,
tacky tourist-attraction type,

this thing's not meant to be
in a snow globe but it is.

Yeah.
That's what makes it cool.

Christmas hams.

Cool, so that's the connection
there for it.

When I think snow globe,
I think Christmas,

so what we really wanted to do
was put our Aussie twist on it.

And Rudolph's gonna be
pretty slim, hey?

Yeah, exactly, we're going for,
like, big head and smaller body.

We can either go, sort of,
pretty and elegant,

and that's just not us, so we
decided to go really super tacky.

We're going for classic
Australian summer Christmas.

We've got Santa on a deck chair,
Rudolph mixing some mocktails,

classic beach, classic sun,
all that kind of stuff.

So, it's in a snow globe

'cause we want it to be, like,
that classic funny snow globe.

Hm!

We're gonna be super technical,

and create things we haven't
really created before on the show.

Yeah, I've never built the deck
chair or anything like it before,

but it's the challenge to do it.

I build a lot of LEGO animals
in my spare time,

that's what I enjoy
building at home,

and I really enjoy
getting those little details

that create the expression
in the animals' faces.

I'm starting to feel
pretty good about this fox.

Emotions in animal faces
are really subtle.

To get that subtlety in a LEGO build
can be really, really difficult.

The eyes is where 80% of
the creature's emotion comes from,

so, if I get those right, I think
we're gonna be in a good spot.

This build is crucial today because,
if you don't get it right...

Like, all I can think of when you
think of snow is, like, a ski lodge.

It's very tough.

What's gonna look good in the snow?

Feeling very nervous
and it's very stressful.

A snow globe is a simple story,
so we need to try

and come up with an idea that is
very recognisable at a first glance.

But time's ticking away,

and we still haven't settled
on an idea of what we're doing.

All the snow globes I've seen,
especially travelling,

like, in Paris,
it was the Eiffel Tower.

Snow globes mean so much to me.

See, whenever I travelled for work,

I would always bring a snow globe
home for my little sister.

My favourite one
is London, love London.

Stonehenge, it's incredible.

Stonehenge, I kinda like that idea.

It'll look cool.
It'll look really cool.

Landmarks belong in a snow globe.

This is what we're going with.

Today, we are building Stonehenge.

There's gonna be some
druid sorcery happening,

and then we add, like, the LEGO
mini-figs in to be, like, tourists.

these grey rectangles

in a studs-out way using plates.

This is allowing me to build
a large structure very quickly.

thousands of years ago.

into this build as possible.

Because we need to get rid

so we're taking a brave route.

We're gonna go as horrible

We're going for Australiana tack.

Ned Kelly-ish inspired,

kind of bushranger
in a classic colonial outback town.

It's a thin door. That's alright.

That's cool, they were skinny
back then, all around, though.

I mean, he's got no hope
of getting through it.

Obviously, the figurehead
has to be Ned Kelly.

We want something big

that's disproportionate
to the rest of the scene.

Yeah, we have to make it work there.

I want a beard underneath, though.

I still want to have some
bushy eyebrows poking out, though.

Whatever works.

We think we're onto, hopefully,
a winner with this idea.

a clear story was really important
to us so that, when it does start

snowing, it adds that story element
that's relevant to the snow globe.

Today's build, we are making a ship
stuck in the ice, so these sailors

need to get their ship out of there
before that storm starts.

As I'm building these sails,
Dawei's doing what he's doing,

but he's also looking over
my shoulder to see what I'm doing.

Whoa, whoa.

That actually looks really good.

I'm really surprised.

I'm hopeful that we have enough time
to do everything that we want to do.

However, just laying down
the hull itself has taken hours.

Pretty much 99% of sailing ships

are made out of
the pre-built LEGO pieces.

We're going from scratch
with individual bricks,

and, as a result,
we really need to use up

every single bit of time we have
to get the maximum product.

with a beautiful ice skater,

but she's gonna be
spinning in the middle,

surrounded by a wintry scene
and a winter lake.

Even though Sarah and I
have the platinum brick,

we do not want to play that

We want to be good enough

Well, they're almost perfect,
they really are.

Dare I say, it's emotional,
you feel something for that fox.

still operating under a curse

It's a real winner for a snow globe.

But they're almost working
on two different scales.

about, like, the arms now?

They're still too long

By going as large as what they have,
they've grossly oversized them.

It's very hard to get
other items of scale in there

now that they've made those.

I can picture that world

This is gonna be the boatiest boat

There's a fundamental
LEGO problem, however.

You could avoid building
the whole bottom of that ship

by actually building
it on the base plate.

It would eliminate hours and hours
worth of work alone.

Worries me that someone's building

with a fundamental LEGO problem
in an elimination.

Yeah, not good.

I can't believe so much time
has gone past.

It's scary.

So, we're getting
a little bit worried

because time is ticking down rapidly
and we're still on the ship.

I'm finding that,
in the elimination challenge,

time management has just
gone out the window because...

Not that he had it in
the start, but, yeah.

In my head,
I've got it all mapped out

in terms of what we need to do
for this ship.

However, because we have to
build the hull from scratch,

we've actually used up
more than half our time,

but our ship is maybe
only a quarter built.

Once the sail is finally up,

we then need to finish off
the rest of our ship,

add in all the mini-figure details
plus all of our ice structures,

which we haven't really
started yet at all.

Dawei thrives on that
last-moment pressure.

It kills me.

I'm the opposite.

Let's attach the sails,
make sure they work,

and then we'll take them
off and start on the ice.

I'm getting less and less
and less optimistic

about whether we're actually gonna
get this build done in time.

here, and I'm, like, freaking out

in just a nice positive way, though.

detail and greeble these trilithons,

I'm actually really liking
the way they're coming out.

Like, he's really
thought these out meticulously,

and it's looking beautiful.

I'm hoping that my little stories

can, kind of, bring a little bit
of a smile here and there.

I'm just gonna concentrate
on figs now.

Yeah, you do that, figs.
Figs and story.

So, Stonehenge itself is
kind of on top of a hill,

but, because of how big
these trilithons are,

we can't include the hill.

So, what I'm gonna do, though,
is elevate some little areas.

Just remember there'll be
air moving through, so...

Oh, OK, yeah.

Around the Henge itself,

we're gonna have the head druid of
the Solstice on top of the stone.

First druid man. What do you think?

Oh, they look phenomenal.

A little bit lower,

you've got some tourists that are
there taking a photo with a druid.

I'd say the journey
through this build

has definitely been quite rocky.

Um, but we're definitely
on track now, I think, definitely.

We've turned the corner,
this is looking great.

For some reason,
this one's really unstable.

See how it's leaning over?

I'm not sure what's causing
that one to lean.

Normally in LEGO, they give you
the fabric sails are ready.

Having to build these sails
from scratch,

we underestimated how heavy
the sails would be.

If it is a little bit too heavy...

..that might happen.

I'm gonna use a string
to hold up the mast.

I'm trying to fix up
all the little bits and pieces

that have fallen apart.

It's really intricate,
and really time-consuming work.

Delicate.

Oh, this is ingenious.

Because today's
an elimination build,

we really are trying to get
this ship to an excellent standard.

And we were thinking

the classic two palm trees
over the back, shape the build.

middle... up the guts, to be honest.

so that is our centrepiece.

The most crucial thing is to
get this sleigh's angle right,

putting it up and around everything
to give that idea of movement.

and I've got some mini figs

If you think about the composition,
it goes from shorter to taller.

pushing yourself at the end

which you did with our friend
the beach umbrella.

But the sign
of a fantastic Lego model

is when something catches your eye
and you're drawing me into it.

Rudolph, you used a construction
worker's helmet for Rudolph's nose.

That's great. Nice part usage.

And then there's things
like the crab

that are adding value
to your Lego model.

They're completely hollow,
don't need to be strong

some great studs-out technique

to kind of make up lost time,

for the rest of your build,

And you've got so much detail

all at ground level

and the poor mini figures,
you could really hardly see

what was happening and it kind of
lost that story element.
