with my son. It bonds us.

He's four, and he loves it.

is really exciting!

Your challenge for this build
is to simply...

that would make someone
in that train go "wow".

So, we're, of course,
looking for storytelling,

aesthetics and technical ability.

And when I say technical ability,

I'm not talking about
just Lego Technic.

I'm talking about the way
in which you use Lego bricks.

Basically showing off
just how well you know Lego.

that reconnected me with who I am.

That is why this is so special

My favourite part of 'Lego Masters'
is when I get to hear the idea.

We are doing
a Japanese geisha temple.

Giant geisha head in the middle,

and the minifigs are coming
to deliver giant sushi to her

from the sushi train.

I love the idea. Go for it.

I'm a project manager.

I have been collecting Lego
for about 20 years now.

I had to make all this storage.
I used my 3D printer.

As you can see,

I store all my Lego
really organised here.

And for me,
Lego is like a happy place.

I'm Gus. I'm a design engineer,

and I work in
an incredibly creative team

who build large-scale
animatronic creatures...

..such as dinosaurs or dragons.

Really big-scale stuff.

The company I work for built the
'Walking with Dinosaurs' exhibits.

For today's challenge,
we're building a big crocodile,

just chomping on a train

while the other train is coming
and seeing that terrifying scene.

This 'stop the train' build
is really designed

to let anyone push their imagination
and their skill set,

so we're gonna really go for this.

That's where I was thinking, like,
magical trees and stuff like that.

More than perhaps any other year,
for this first build,

it is the most open thing
you can do.

In terms of the skill on show,

We're on another layer.

You can immediately tell we've
got 16 highly creative people,

so that alone is worth

You've got the attention seeker,
the giant mothership on the top.

For a first up try,

that's one of the best mechanisms
I've seen and octagonal too.

It really is a great build,

and that entices you in
to see what's happening.

What you've also done is add
little details,

drawing you in and showing action
without actually having action,

so for example's sake,
looking at the burned tree,

it gives an indication
that this ship has come in

and crashed and then of course,
the unnamed agency has turned up.

Definitely stopped the train.

chomping crocodile.

He's chomping on a train track.

It's covered in pink goo.

There's been toxic spills,
there's mutants everywhere.

People are terrified.

It looks amazing, guys.

The thing I want to ask you about,
Brickman,

is there's a lot of Lego
bricks in the crocodile's head.

Is it difficult to get a Lego motor
to, like, lift that weight?

Definitely. Not only is it difficult
to lift that weight

and get that action happening,
but to do it reliably.

It's super impressive
that it's working.

Totally. A character
is one of the key things

that you could use to stop a train.

Particularly with movement
like that.

Can I ask a question on that?

How much better does it make
this build

that the guys have put a train
in its mouth

rather than just having a crocodile
scaring people.

Heaps better.

The main reason is it's suggestive.

It gives you the impression

that's why there's
a train track here.

He obviously snacks on trains.

That's why he's mutated,
because he's eaten the toxic sludge.

The only downside
is the crocodile is green.

Yeah.

The baseplate is green,
the mountains are green,

everything is green.

From a colour perspective,
contrast was the real enemy

for your aesthetics here.

thoughts?

Well, you know, the challenge
is to stop the train.

Of course the train is going to stop

in front of a giant
exploding volcano.

So, you've definitely stopped
the train.

The thing that I like the most
is colour.

You need to set yourself apart
from the scenery

and colour is a great way
to do that.

The bright oranges and reds,
the translucent pieces you've done.

However, you've got this amazing
mountain range behind you.

You've practically spent
at least half of your build

recreating that mountain range.

So, probably for time-management
purposes,

you need to think about using
what's already there

to your strengths as opposed
to having to repeat all that work

before you got to the good stuff.

Now, they begin to regret

As it speeds up and goes
faster and faster and faster.

And it's too late at that point.

Have you guys ever built
anything this big before?

No.
Not even close.

That's such an interesting point

because kind of what's happened
with your build, too many ideas

and so all of these ideas
in the end came crashing together.

If you look at the rides,

they're all incredibly different
to each other,

they looked disjointed.

'cause it's quite dark and hidden.

there's a lot of little things

that make the model amazing,

is the geisha herself.

The colour choice for starters.

when you said, "Let's build

just how amazingly contrasting

those colours were
against the mountains.

Was that intentional?

Or just kind of happened?
