That's O.J.." So I called LAPD.

TOM LANGE:
When I looked at the bodies,
I could see Nicole.

She'd been nearly decapitated.

D'ANNE PURCILLY:
He would say to her,

"I am going to

"chop you up in little pieces,

"and no one will know
where you are,

not even your children."

(laughing)

Bye-bye, Sydney.

We'll see you again real soon.

We were supposed
to go out one Friday night

and I got back and I called her,
and I'm like, "You know,

I know we're supposed to go
out tonight. I'm so wiped out."

And she had told me that she had
met these guys, I guess,

with Faye
at the coffee shop, and...

and they were young,

and they were really fun
and refreshing.

I actually introduced her
to Ron.

Hence a lot of
other pain that I have.

MARK DeCARLO:
Right next to me

is, uh, Ron Goldman,
a 23 year old tennis pro.

-Give him a big hand
for coming down.
-(cheering, applause)

FAYE:
He used to go to
Starbucks all the time.

I introduced them one day.

And then they created,

you know, a friendship
with each other.

She said, "Yeah,
I'm really having fun.

"I'm really
loving life right now.

"I've never felt better.

I've never been happier."
And...

I said, "That's great."
She goes...

I said,
"We'll go out next weekend."

She said, "Yeah, definitely
go out next weekend."

She goes,
"I want you to meet these guys.

You're gonna like them.
They're really nice."

I said, "Oh, yeah, great,
let's do it."

That was the last time
I spoke to her.

She died on Sunday.
I talked to her on Friday.

♪

NEWSMAN:
The neighbors who found
the bodies were horrified.

NEWSWOMAN:
Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman
were found just after midnight.

WOMAN:
My husband is turning
the same way,

and he's saying to me,
"There's a body."

NEWSMAN: Dead from
a knife wound to her throat

so deep that it nicked
her spinal cord.

NEWSWOMAN:
The murder weapon was a knife.

MAN:
There was a lot of blood.

NEWSMAN:
As we track down the clues

to unravel this murder mystery.

BILL CLINTON:
...the biggest tragedy,

because two people were killed.

Children were robbed
of a mother,

families lost loved ones, and...

and a man widely admired
in this country is...

is now caught in the web
of a terrible tragedy.

LAWYER:
June 13th. Did you have occasion
to go by Rockingham?

I was called to Rockingham.

LAWYER:
And who called you
to Rockingham?

Arnelle.

She said Nicole was dead.

LAWYER:
Did she say anything
other than that?

I said, "What?"

And she said, "Nicole is dead."
And I said, "What happened?"

She says, "I don't know.
The police are here."

She said, "Will you come over?"

-LAWYER:
And did you go over there?
-Yes, I did.

One of the officers, he was,
um... Receded on the top.

He had no... He...
Dark, with hair on the side.

And he, uh, informed them

that Nicole was dead.

I gasped.
I threw my hand over my mouth.

Uh... I grabbed Arnelle.

And we embraced each other.

This is a very
difficult thing for me.

LAWYER:
Sure.

Continue.

DENISE:
It's 06:00 in the morning,

and, um, all of a sudden,

I hear this--

and it's a noise
I'll never forget--

it was such a...

gut-wrenching, curdling scream

out of my parents' bedroom

that I... dropped everything,

and I ran back to my parents.

And my mom was on her knees
and my dad was...

my dad was on his elbow,
he was just looking up at her.

And I grabbed the phone
out of her hand and I said...

I said, "Who is this?"
And she said, "It's Tom Lang."

And I said... I said, "What?"

And she... he said,
"Your sister's been killed."

And I said...

I said, "Oh, my God."

I said, "He did it."

I said, "He finally did it."

I said, "Oh, my God."

And he said, "Who?"
And I said...

I said, "O.J. Simpson."

I said, "He finally killed her"

D'ANNE:
The morning I saw on the news..

(clears throat)

...they were just saying--

this is really hard--

that O.J.'s ex-wife

had been killed.

I thought it was Marguerite.

Denise answered the phone

and she's...

she's wailing.

And she said,
"D'Anne, it's Nicole.

It's Nicole."

We just couldn't believe it.

I... Uh...
It just was so foreign.

And Lou had gone up--

I can't remember
who had gone up with him--

to pick up the kids.

I asked about the kids,
where were the kids?

He said the kids were fine.
They were at the police station.

I said, "Can I go get the kids?"
And they said, "Yes."

LAWYER:
Did you have any discussion
with the kids at all?

Um, more or less
just kidding with them,

trying to keep them,
you know, um...

They wasn't puzzled
or asking questions.

They were just, you know,
they seemed to be normal.

DOMINIQUE:
Denise called to tell me

that Nicole had been killed.

And, um....

And she was gone.

I eventually made my way home.

It was hours before...

...A.C. showed up with the kids.

My dad and A.C. lectured me

and said, "You can't
tell anybody that O.J. did it

because we don't know."
And I said, "I didn't."

I got reprimanded.

I thought that was so...

weird.

PRODUCER:
Who do you think that came from?

I know where it came from.

I know precisely
where it came from.

And it just came down
the chain of command.

So nobody would
say anything bad.

I remember seeing
my mom and Sydney

sitting on the couch.

And my mom telling her

that her mom was killed.

And... there was, like,

just a shock and a stare and...

nothing.

There were no tears,
there was no reaction.

There was, like, just staring.

The first thing my dad did

in the house
is we turned off the TVs

and we put them all on VCRs

so the kids would not
see any of the news.

There was no news on any TV

except my dad's TV
in his bedroom.

There was just a... a lot.

But I went into protection mode.

I mean, the kids came and it...
I was like,

"Bam, that's
how I'm gonna do this.

"That's how I'm gonna do this.

This is how I'm gonna survive."

I think it was at that time
I made a promise to myself

and I made a promise to Nicole

that I would do
everything in my power,

as long as those kids
were around us,

to... to, uh, protect them.

LANGE:
Initially, he was not arrested.

Simpson returned to Rockingham
with his attorneys.

So I left that crime scene
and went to Robbery Homicide,

where we were gonna interview
Simpson with his attorneys.

I don't know that
he even realized that

when I first saw Simpson,
his left hand was bleeding.

It's the middle finger
of his left hand.

Left hand. What do we have
at the crime scene?

Dripped blood tailing
in the same direction as

the bloody footwear impressions.

There's a lot of things that
subsequently stood out to us.

The way that he talks,
the jumping around

when we ask about his

now bleeding finger.

Blood is at the core

of what we're gonna be doing,
at the core of this evidence.

If his blood
is at that crime scene,

and we have blood
on those gloves

and we have

blood in his car--

which, all those things

turned out to be true--

he's now a suspect.

But it's gonna

take more than 48 hours

to get back any PCR
or anything else.

I called my mom, I told her
what happened that night.

I was really angry.

Like, I almost got hit by O.J.

My mom thought that
he could have gone there

and saw what happened
and was in a hurry to get home

because he would have
been implicated.

None of us at that time
wanted to believe

that he was, um, a murderer.

Like a lot of women,
they thought that,

"Oh, he was handsome,
he wouldn't do that."

You know, "He loved his wife."

I remember talking my mom,
both feeling afraid.

Afraid of seeing something
we shouldn't have seen

or reporting something.

And... But then again,
she told me, "No,

"you should call them back
and-and make sure

that you-that you get a report."

That same day,

two detectives
show up at my door,

and they want to know
what I saw.

And I gave them
the license plate number.

And I remember it
as being 3CWZ788.

But I had transposed
the numbers,

and they said,
"That's O.J.'s car.

I remember them telling me
that they're gonna keep

my information private

so no one will know

who I am and what I'm saying.

But after I talked to them,
the next day,

I was bombarded with media
at my door.

And they kept coming

to my home
and peering in my windows

as I was putting
my daughter to bed.

She was five at the time.

They knew where I worked,
so they got me fired

because they showed up
at my job.

It just really affected
every area of our lives.

I had asked them
who let our information out

I had asked them

because a lot of witnesses
were having that same issue,

and he said there was

a leak within
the police department

'cause O.J. "had friends"
in the police department.

NEWSMAN:
The case that's
horrified the nation.

NEWSMAN 2:
ESPN reports

bloodstained clothing

was found in O.J.'s home.

NEWSMAN 3:
Simpson was questioned by polie

for several hours yesterday
and is said

to be devastated
by the apparent murders.

And police will not
rule him out as a suspect.

NEWSMAN 4:
Simpson's attorney,
Howard Weitzman,

says the couple was on
the verge of reconciliation.

They seemed to get along
on a more than cordial basis.

There was a viewing
on Wednesday, and I just...

I-I couldn't do that.

I wasn't able
to put that together.

TANYA: I sat down
on the couch outside of

the viewing room,
and all I heard were screams.

(sighs)

All I heard was Denise.

And she just kept saying,
"Oh, my God."

It was awful.

It was the worst experience

in my whole life.
It was, like, my best friend--

my sister--
was laying in this coffin,

It was so hard to see.

Then we had to pick out
a dress for her,

and we had to pick out
a turtleneck for her

bec... because
her throat was cut.

He (bleep)

almost decapitated her.

He cut her throat.

(crying)

It was so awful.

It was so awful.

Oh...

He just stood over the...

the coffin, looking at her,

saying he was sorry.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.

Nic, I'm so sorry."

He sat next to me.

And he looked at me
and he said...

"I'm so sorry, girl."

He was just admitting that he...
he did it and he's sorry.

I'm sure he was.

I was about to walk in the room
and O.J. stopped me

and he looks at me, and he says,

"Minnie,

you have to come with me
to go see Nicole."

And he grabbed my hand.

And he took me over to Nicole,
and we knelt there

with Nicole.

And I don't know why me.

And he said...

And I sat there, I kneel...
I knelt there with him

in front of my dead sister.

(crying)

And, um...

He said,
"Where's that ring I gave her?"

D'ANNE:
He said, "I'm looking
for a ring, a piece of jewelry"

And I thought, "Well,

"that's weird.

But, no,
you-you can't touch her."

And then he walked out

and tried to get
in the car with Dita.

We didn't really know

if O.J. had done this,

so I got in, too.

Dita turned to him at one point

and said...

"Did you do this?"

And he l... leaned forward,
looked down.

"Dita, I loved her.
I loved her too much.

I just loved her too much."

And I'm s...
I was like, "He's gonna...

he's gonna tell her he did it."

He didn't.
He just kept saying

over and over again,
"I loved her too much."

No.

But it doesn't surprise me.

'Cause he always went to them.

And then, all of a sudden,
I went outside.

And Shapiro came up to me.

This was the (bleep) up part.

Shapiro came up to me and he
goes, "Can we exhume the body?"

And I said,
"What does that mean?"

He goes,
"We want to unbury the body."

And I said, "(bleep).
She's not even buried yet."

I said, "How can you
want to exhume her body

"when she's not even buried?

She just died."

I couldn't believe that he would

even ask me something like that.

Oh, it was... That was
just a f-friggin' nightmare.

(sniffles)

(sighs)

NEWSMAN:
O.J. Simpson attended funeral
services for his ex-wife.

The service for
Nicole Simpson was private.

NEWSMAN 2:
It was such a crowded scene

L.A. city traffic officers
had to come in to control acces

from Sunset Boulevard.

DENISE:
It was a media frenzy.

They were, like, riding
right next to us. The guys

that were actually

driving the cars
had their cameras,

and they were filming us

in these limousines

all the way up to Los Angeles.

NEWSMAN:
Out of the back

of one of the limousines,

the two small Simpson children,

followed by
O.J. Simpson himself,

the mourning ex-husband,
the grieving father,

the focus
of a murder investigation.

D'ANNE:
When we got there,

the police had s-spoken to us

at the funeral and said,
"You know,

"we're watching him.

You know,
you need to watch him."

So, we kind of knew,

but you didn't know,
and you want

to believe that it...
"No, it couldn't have been him.'

A.C. was out directing traffic.

And I remember David and I
walked right up to him,

and we said,

"What do you think, A.C.?

"What do you think?

Did he do it?"

And he said, "I don't know.

I just don't know."

Don't you think you would say,
"Absolutely not"?

That's not what he said to us.

Now, we found out later

that he denied he said that,
but David

and I were very clear
in him responding that way.

NEWSMAN:
Moments later,

with presidential-like
security guards

jogging by the side of his lim,

the funeral procession
sped off to the cemetery.

At the gravesite,
the-the people

that lived around the cemetery
sold their rights

to the media so they could have
their cameras

in the backyard.

I heard that he went back
to the gravesite

and he screamed at the grave.

That he was angry.

And that the...
that the cemetery called...

...to say that he was there

and he was screaming
at the grave.

And it was just, like...

(bleep) bizarre.

NEWSMAN:
Early as this morning, O.J.'s
family was standing by him,

and his fans were
displaying their support

outside his mansion.

What do you think the mindset

and the feeling is
in that home right now?

Uh, horror. Nightmarish horror
for everyone involved.

My job was to try
to work sources

in the police department
and elsewhere

to find out what
the evidence was, uh, showing.

I wrote a story that ran
on the front page

indicating that Simpson
was regarded

as the principal suspect,
and that he was expected

to be arrested
within a day or so.

DENISE:
We were in the house,

and we started, you know,
packing up her things.

And all of a sudden,

I heard helicopters.

People were knocking
on the door,

and they wanted
to come into the house.

And then that's when we said,

"Well, what is going on here?"

Mr. Simpson was scheduled
to surrender this morning

to the Los Angeles
Police Department.

Mr. Simpson has not appeared.

The Los Angeles
Police Department right now

is actively searching
for Mr. Simpson.

D'ANNE:
We were at the Brown's house.

Dita was on the phone,
and she was very agitated.

And I was like, you know,

"Who's she talking to?"
And she said, "It's O.J.

He's in a car."

He said, "I want to

"go see where
she's buried again.

I want to see the kids."

I'm pulling Tanya
into the back bedroom,

all the way in the back
of the house,

and saying, "We're calling 911.

We're doing this right now."

"Oh, I don't know whether I can.
I don't know

whether I can."
I'm like,

"Tanya, we're doing it."
The two of us

called 911

and said, "We know where he is.

He's on the 405 freeway
coming down here

to us."

DENISE:
Simpson called my dad,
and he says,

"I just want to be with her.
I just want to be with her."

"I'm going to Nicole," he said.

"I'm going to be with Nicole,"
is what he said.

And my dad collapsed.

My dad collapsed.

And he said, "No.

Don't do this.
You can't make this worse

than it already is."

NEWSMAN:
Someone purporting to be
O.J. Simpson had called,

telling relatives
of Nicole Brown Simpson

that he was on his way.

Relatives notified police.

Yeah, everybody thought
he was gonna go commit suicide.

NEWSMAN 2:
Simpson left behind a letter

that sounded
like a suicide note.

"Everyone understand
I had nothing

"to do with Nicole's murder.

No matter what the outcome,
people will look and point."

DENISE:
And then, all of a sudden,
I said,

"He's not gonna kill himself.
He's too afraid."

He's not gonna
kill O.J. Simpson.

He loves himself too much.

It's much easier
to kill other people.

(sirens wailing)

DOMINIQUE:
Denise and I got in the car

and we decided
we were gonna catch him.

(chuckles)

I don't know what we thought.

So we got in the car
and we raced on the freeway,

and we were going
100 and something,

and we were
trying to call police

and trying to call this
and trying to call that,

and all of a sudden,
there was so much chaos

and we stopped and went,
"What are we doing?"

God, are we stupid.
What were we thinking?

Why would he go down there
and kill himself?

He says he wants to go
be with Nicole.

Okay. So he's gonna
go sit down there,

and he's gonna talk to her
and blame it on her. What?

I remember my mom and I--

we were sitting on
the edge of the bed,

and she goes,

"I just want my family
to come home.

"Just come home."

LANGE:
I says, "He had a phone?"

So I call and he picks up.

And I told him who I was.
He says, "Yeah,"

and he's talking like he's under
the influence or he's tired.

-(on phone): Don't do this.
-O.J.: All I did
was love Nicole.

All I did was love her.

I just want to be with Nicole.

LANGE:
You don't need
to be with Nicole.

You need to be with your family
and with your kids.

Say hi, Daddy. Look,
Daddy's taking movies again.

(giggling)

(Nicole laughs)

(sirens wailing)

O.J.:
I couldn't do it in a field.
I want to do it at her grave.

I want to do it at my house.

It was the first date
I ever had with Nicole.

Very first date
I ever had with her,

the first night
we ever went out...

-LANGE: Yeah?
-O.J.: We went to that house.

It was all in shambles.

I had just bought it,
but that's-that's
where we went.

-LANGE: Okay.
-O.J.: Our first date.

First night we were together.

We start talking about his kids

and anything else
that I can bring up.

Well, he didn't seem overly
concerned about his kids.

Forget the murders, it's got
nothing to do with that

at this point.
It's about a loaded gun

and people potentially
getting shot.

And that's my only job.

DOMINIQUE:
It just seemed like a big game.

That made me angry.

NEWSWOMAN: Okay, we have
some new information here, uh..

NEWSMAN: Says he has been
arrested for his driving.

(overlapping chatter
from reporters)

I want that Bronco,

and I want to see
if anything's in there,

especially the gun.

Later, we find out
the gun is there,

and there's a travel bag,

a big leather travel bag

with a disguise kit in it,

with a passport in it,

with his Hall of Fame ring
in it,

a set of keys in it

that have a little teddy bear
on them, I think.

And something else.

And I think that
there's a possibility

that these may be the keys

that Nicole has complained
that Simpson may have taken.

LARRY KING:
There are police in the doorwa.

This is the driveway to the
O.J. Simpson house in Brentwoo.

He's driven through
two counties.

LANGE:
Ironically, at the same time

that the pursuit has gone down,

Lou is having the locks removed

from the house
and from the gate.

New locks. So we're screwed

until we find out
that Cora Fischman has a key

given to her by Nicole.

So we got a key now,
but no locks.

So what we have,
we get locks constructed

from Cora's, uh, key.

We use the keys
I got from Simpson

to open the lock, and they fit.

So we know that Simpson
took those keys...

from the house,
prior to the murders.

Those keys, along with
several other things,

were never brought to, uh,
ever brought in as evidence.

-INTERVIEWER: In June of 1994,
did you have any keys?
-None.

No knowledge of having
any keys to Nicole's house.

Since Friday night,
his home has been

a nine-by-seven-foot cell

in a special wing
of the L.A. County Jail.

Asked me to spend the morning
with my two boys.

And then he started to cry

and said, "I wish I could
spend Father's Day

with my children."

DENISE:
He did talk to Sydney
at one point.

He said he was
"helping the police

find Mommy's killer."

One night, I was
tucking her into bed,

and we were talking.

She says, "Denise,

is my daddy in jail?"

And I said yes.

"Is my daddy gonna die?"

And I said no.
I said, "Why?"

"Well, don't they put people
who kill other people...

Don't they kill them?"

And I said,
"They've already said

"they're not going
to do that, Sydney."

That was a tough conversation,
I'll tell you.

That was really, really hard.

And we never had
a conversation after that.

And I've never told anybody
about this conversation.

She told me that

she was having

some nightmares and stuff.

They had stopped on their way
home and gotten ice cream.

And that's how
they timed when Nicole

was murdered, because there was
ice cream still sitting

at the house on the stairway,
going up.

So they came in through
the garage, they went upstairs,

and the kids were going to bed.

And then she recalled

being awakened

in the middle of the night
by a policeman,

and them escorting them down

through the back of the house

to get them out of the house.

And she said
she remembered seeing

policemen with guns drawn.

And I think that

that's what she had
the nightmares about.

What the kids could've heard

and, you know,

not seeing, actually,
what was going on

and just hearing the things--

it's like their little brains
just run amok.

It's like,
what are they thinking?

We tried to protect them
as much as possible.

I mean, my God,
it was everywhere you went.

Photographs and stories
and on TV.

Even in Monarch,

you know,
down by the grocery store,

they refused to put
the National Enquirer out.

They turned it around

and put something
in front of it

so nobody could see it.

We made games out of...

out of being chased
by helicopters.

Boom. The helicopters
would swoop, the media.

And we'd grab our towels

and we'd run down the beach
like we were superheroes.

We were swarmed.

There was no privacy
for a long time.

HOST:
This is the story of the decade

And also the news media

is really starting

into this beast
that has to be fed.

And so it's just, they're both
feeding each other in a way

and it's just kind
of becoming this...

unstoppable story
that you can't get away from,

even if you want to.

NEWSMAN:
Called before the grand jury,

today, she testifies about
her strange encounter with O.J.

He was just, uh, crazy.

NEWSMAN:
This witness, who does not
want her real name used,

surfaced last week but she
didn't tell her full story

until over the weekend.

Like many others,
she was afraid.

Hard Copy came to my door.

They said, you know,
"We're talking

to different witnesses
and we want

to, uh, talk to you."

One of the things they brought
up to me was,

"Oh, you know, if you get
your story out there,

"it, um, it...

people will know your story
and you'll be protected."

They offered me 5,000.

At the time, it was...
that was... it was...

sounded good
because I'd lost my job,

I was, I think
I was on unemployment

and I was taking care of my mom,
my daughter and my brother.

So I thought,
"Okay, I can use that $5,000.

That would be great."
And then I did the interview.

I got called down
to the D.A.'s office again

about my interview.

And, uh, and then, um...

I-I talked
to Marcia Clark about it.

I told her, "Well, yeah,
I-I did this interview."

She goes, "Did you take money?"
I said, "Well,

they offered me $5,000,
but I won't take it."

So then she gets mad
and starts yelling at me

and says that I...
She says...

I remember it to this day,
she stuck her finger in my face,

"You blew my case."

I felt so ashamed.
I felt so, so scared.

I, um, got an attorney
to protect me from her.

And then I ended up giving him,
when I got the $5,000,

I gave the $5,000 to him.

She basically said,

"Disregard her-her testimony."

And then t-that was it.

To this day,

I'm not proud
of what happened

on my part, what I did
and what I wasn't able to do.

I felt like I had
taken blood money.

So, I wa... I'd...

I was beating myself up
for many years.

I felt like I had

blown an opportunity to help

and do what's right.

I just remember her
as someone's mom,

two kids' mom who, you know,
s-still need her.

To this day, I'm sure.

In O.J. Simpson's corner, one f
the best lawyers money can buy::

the suave 51-year-old
Robert Shapiro

leads the defense team.

He's known as Hollywood's
premier dealmaker.

His specialty:
keeping celebrities out of
jail.

When I took the stand in
the preliminary hearing,

um, I-I was so nervous.

Marcia comes up to talk to me
and she says,

you know, "Hey, did you
ever talk to the defense?"

I go, "Well, no, wait,
I-I think I might've."

She goes, "Well, I have
a tape recording of you here."

I said, "They introduced
themselves as Skip and Bob."

And she tells me
that was Robert Shapiro

and that was Skip Taft,
O.J.'s everyday lawyer.

She goes, "Did you know
that they were recording you?"

And I said no.
I said, "They never asked me,

never told me
that they were recording."

She's like,
"Oh, that's illegal."

And, uh, she goes,
"Well, I'm not gonna

put you on the stand
until we listen to it."

So her, Marcia, my mom and I

go into her office
to go listen to this tape.

It's basically everything,
you know,

my testimony, front to back.

When he finally
answered the intercom,

he said that he just
got out of the shower.

When he came out,
I mean, I did remember

seeing beads of sweat on him.

It's everything
that I've always, you know,

from day one, you know,

there's no wavering
in any of the testimony.

At the very end of the tape,
they say, "Thank you, Alan."

And we hang up the phone,
but they leave the tape going.

And it's still recording.

And they s... the two attorneys,

Skip and Bob-- say,
"That's funny.

That's not what
O.J.'s telling us."

And we just all
looked at each other.

I mean, our mouths dropped.

And the other person says,

"Are you normally sweaty
when you get out of the shower?"

And then that's when
it hangs up.

Marcia tells me,

she goes, "Well, I can't
put you on the stand today."

She goes, "I'm gonna put you

And I said,
"No, that's not good."

Sunday's Fourth of July.

And I always light off

the Fouth of July show
on Catalina Island.

I said, "I don't
have a reservation

"to get off that island
Monday morning.

I guarantee you
I won't be able to get one."

About a day goes by,
and she calls me.

She says, "You and your mom
be down at the heliport

at 6:00 in the morning,
Monday morning."

And I said, "Okay."

And she said, "We're sending
over the sheriff's

helicopter to come pick you up."

They flew us into downtown L.A,

through the skyscrapers,

land in the parking lot, and

the D.A. investigators
are there.

Three-piece suits, earpieces.

I'm like,
"They look like Secret Service."

And I'm, like, going,
"Oh, my God." I'm like,

"I feel like the president.

This is amazing."

And next thing I say is, "What's
this costing the taxpayers?"

I couldn't believe
that they were

going to that extent to get me
put on the stand.

WOMAN:
Are you still in fear of your
life, as you were earlier? Or...

I'm not making comments.

REPORTER: Faye Resnik, the
woman who turned the O.J.
Simpson case

upside down,
has now come out of hiding.

Right before Nicole died,

two days before I...

relapsed.

She put me into treatment.

I was stressed out

beyond belief.

She loved me.

She wanted me to be healthy.

KRIS JENNER:
Nicole said,

"Okay, we are gonna go

"visit Faye and make sure

that somebody's there
for her every day."

So she made a schedule for us.

So, I remember
it was Nicole's day.

And Nicole and I spoke,
and she goes, "No,

"Faye's having a good day.

I'm leaving.
Your day's tomorrow."

That was the last time
I spoke to her.

I didn't know
how to cope with...

with everything
that was happening around me.

And when we found out...

that

Robert was working
with O.J. Simpson,

and they were

coming up with a, um, story...

...that...

it must be drug dealers

came to murder me.

And instead mistaked
me for Nicole.

Like, what?

How would that... How?

"Well, because O.J. knew

that Nicole
took you to treatment."

'Cause she told him

she was taking me.

And he was watching the kids.

It's a perfect alibi for him.

And when

I was told that
I had credibility issues

because I was in treatment
and that I would

never be able to testify,

I was gonna get that information
out there someway, somehow.

I didn't care
what the results were.

It's a cycle of violence
that needs to be stopped.

And that's what we're trying
to do here, all of us.

The controversy was,
is that she talked

about some experiences
with Nicole that,

I mean, I guess
I would have preferred

if they weren't out in the open.

I would have preferred
that they weren't in the book.

Faye felt that she also had
to show some of the flaws

in Nicole, as well,
and make her human. It wasn't

as if she or any of us
are saints.

NEWSWOMAN:
She left the book signing early
after a group of hecklers

accused her of writing the book
out of greed.

It's-it's an ugly thing,
what she's doing.

She's being a vulture.

I was getting threats
at the time.

They said about me that...

I was just selling her soul

for money,
which was so disgusting.

That hurt me so much.

I can't even begin to explain.

I went in, both feet.

I dove into the void.

And I would do it again.

The only thing I would change..

...is...

obviously...
(sniffles)

not have to go into treatment

so I could have told my story
on the stand.

And I could have helped her
more than I was able to.

You never get over
losing a friend that way.

And I think I pack it down.

So far deep inside.

You know, it's been 30 years.

Hard.

One of the worst days
I've ever experienced.

She always thought
he was gonna hurt her.

She always knew it.

Tonight, L.A. police released
a copy of one of the 911

phone calls
Nicole Simpson placed

when her ex-husband
broke into her home.

A darker side
of the superstar showing through

in this disturbing call.

The thing that we were
looking for by interviewing

all these people--
the abuse part--

the domestic violence part.

Denise had told us

that she had taken Polaroids,

and we were trying to find those
through family photo albums.

We were still working
the pre-trial

investigation interviews.

We had information-- and I'm
not sure how this came about--

Simpson was involved
in an altercation

in a parking lot
of a bank building

on San Vicente.

And as we were
interviewing the valet

parking attendants,
a gentleman came up

and introduced himself.

He was surprised that LAPD or

investigators from the D.A.'s
office had not been there,

because Nicole

banked at Union Bank there.

And she had
a safe deposit box.

So we opened
the safe deposit box

on a table.
And the first photograph...

...was a Polaroid of Nicole

with a black eye.

Then she had a diary.

Essentially, a list of abuse
by Simpson.

Every incident where they were,

whether it was a hotel
or a function or whatever.

It gave me chills knowing that

she was the last person to put
those photographs in there.

That photograph
as well as others.

It still gives me chills.

According to excerpts
from Nicole's diary in 1978,

there's an incident where

he's hitting her

inside their wine cellar,

then locks her in there.
She claims

he even once was

abusing her physically while
he was having sex with her.

There was also that time

before Justin, their son,

and a few months after Sydney,
their daughter.

"I felt really good about
myself getting back into shape.

"You beat
the holy hell out of me.

"And we lied at the X-ray lab.

And I said
I fell off of a bike."

Reports that Nicole Brown
Simpson left behind

startling evidence
that could destroy O.J.'s case.

Nicole's message from the grave.

In an interview
with the L.A. Daily News,

Nicole's father seemed pleased
with his daughter.

Saying, quote...

I remember that the pictures
were in there.

I was really angry
when I saw them.

Because what were
they doing there?

They were just being hidden.

They were proof of something,

but they just sat
in a safety deposit box.

It was just before trial.

The defense asked the court

if we could show Mr. Simpson

the items that we seized
out of the safe deposit box.

I sat there, O.J. sitting right

next to me, and we had

our evidence book.

It was one
of the first photographs.

He just blurted out, "Oh, yeah,
that was New Year's Eve."

I looked at him in disbelief.

Whoever the defense attorney
was-- I think it was Shapiro--

"Hey, be quiet. Don't say
anything." It was unbelievable,

But it didn't-it didn't
shock me.

An explosive story
about a beating Nicole suffered.

-He was beating her
in front of everybody?
-WOMAN: He was hitting her.

As we started to pull
out of the parking lot,

he just reached over
and opened up the door

that, uh, Nicole was sitting by
and just shoved her out.

All of a sudden,
all these people started

coming out of the woodwork
and saying, you know,

"Nicole told me
that she was being abused."

"Nicole told me
this was happening."

"Nicole said
this was happening."

Where were those people?

I saw some things, yes,
I saw a few things.

And I said something.
I didn't go to the police.

I didn't know
you could go to the police.

I didn't know anything about
domestic violence at the time.

And I felt like, "Why can't I
take her out of this?" You know?

I was always there protecting
her when she was little.

Why can't I protect her now?

Why couldn't I?
Why didn't she just leave?

I mean, he (bleep) up
our whole family.

How could somebody, one person,

(bleep) up
so many people's lives?

(sniffles)

It's just so sad.
I just want her back.

-SYDNEY: Mommy?
-NICOLE: Hmm?

SYDNEY:
Where are you?

NEWSMAN:
49 cameramen, 25 anchors,

20 producers I could see.

What a nightmare we lived.

Two people are dead.

Open up the can of worms.

She went from being
a victim of domestic

violence and murder
to being a whore.

And I thought,
"This is hopeless."

Shortly before noon,
Chicago time,

and history is in the making.

JUROR: We, the jury,
in the above entitled action,

find the defendant not guilty

-of the crime of murder.
-(cheering, screaming)

There was nothing
to cheer about.

WOMAN:
Denise became the spokesperson.

He beat his wife.

How can he be a good father?

We didn't talk for years.

The fact that he is
a convicted wife batterer means

that he may present
a risk of harm

-to these children.
-WOMAN: He took them away.

PRODUCER: Were you aware
of events in Florida?

O.J. Simpson did receive MDMA.

He was a user.

Oh, my God.
Everything that this man

has ever done,
he projected on my sister.

WOMAN: Those poor kids have
been through a lot.

Who was there to protect them?

MAN: How do these children
grow up to be normal

if the person
that murdered their mother

was caring for them?

"Not guilty" does not mean
you're innocent.
