I was always protecting
Nicole.

Even when we were young.

He had this obsession about her.

I felt like she was just
being molded by him.

She did tell me
that he has a bad temper.

DENISE:
We're having lunch.
There was a gay couple

that was sitting at the table.

One of the guys kissed
Justin on the forehead.

All hell broke loose.

He was going crazy.

He had her up against the wall,
hurting her

because of this incident.

D'ANNE: We were having
our New Year's Eve party

and we got a telephone call.

It was Nicole, and she said,
"We got to drinking.

We're just going to stay here."

And then we, of course,
all woke up

with news that Nicole

was at the police station

and he had hit her.

OPERATOR:
911 emergency.

-(Nicole screaming)
-Hello?

(sniffles)

This is a 911, uh,
radio call.

According to the comments,
the operator could overhear

the woman being beaten
on the phone.

DARDEN:
So you and your partner

-proceeded to that address?
-Yes.

It was a locked security gate

with a little call box out front

-with a button.
-(intercom buzzes)

-Whoa.
-NICOLE: Whoa!

She said she was frightened
you were going to kill her.

-No, she didn't say that.
-She did say it on
one of the times.

-No, she did not say that.
-MAN: She said,
"He's gonna kill me."

No, she-she did not say that.

She collapsed
and-and started yelling,

"He's gonna kill me,
he's gonna kill me."

She had a, uh...

cut approximately one inch,
I believe,

on her left, uh, upper lip.

She had a swollen, uh...

right forehead.

And her,
I believe her left eye

or right eye was starting
to blacken

and she had a hand imprint
on her throat,

on the, uh,
left side of her throat.

He came out and yelled
at the police saying,

"You guys have been out here
so many times

"and you never
arrested me before.

Now you're gonna arrest me?"

But they just took her away.

I don't know exactly
what happened then.

-Did you take her
to West L.A. station?
-Yes, I did.

Did you attempt
to photograph her injuries?

EDWARDS: I photographed
her injuries myself.

Used a Polaroid 600, I believe.

I-I took Nicole home
after the photographs.

I was, uh...

woken up

by a phone call, um...

from Michelle. The maid.

-PETROCELLI:
S-Simpsons' housekeeper?
-Right, yes.

I don't know if she said
something about to come up there

to, um, something was going on.

Uh, I don't know if she said
O.J. and Nicole

are fighting
or something like that.

I walked in,
I came into the kitchen.

Nicole was-was by the sink

and O.J. was standing.

And I said,
"What are you doing?"

And he said,
"Nicole, can I talk to you?"

And she picked up the phone
to call the cops again.

He turned around and walked
back into the shadows.

I walked over to Nicole, um...

I embraced her.

She said, "I want to just
be left alone, AC."

I said, "Well, if you need me,
you call me."

And I left.

DENISE:
Nicole called me

a day after the abuse,
after what happened to her.

And she called me up
and she says,

"Denise," she goes,
"I need you to come up here.

I need you to take
pictures of my-- of me."

And she said,
"We had, we had a fight."

And I said, and when I saw her,
I said, "Oh, my God."

I said, "What happened?"

I said, "Why are you with him?

What are you doing?"

And so I ended up taking
the pictures of her, her face.

And underneath her arm
where it was a big bruise.

At the time, I had no idea
where those pictures ended up.

We, of course, all woke up

to New Year's Day with...

news that Nicole was
at the police station.

And, uh, he had...

hit her.

We just couldn't believe it.

That was really the first time

that I was really clueing in
that there was something

very traumatic going on.

So I called Dita.

And she said, "Well, you know
how she can have a sharp mouth?"

And I'm thinking, huh?

You can have a sharp mouth
and nobody's hitting you.

She didn't keep going and
harping on... on the situation.

I mean, it was done
and that was the end of it.

And then Nicole,
"I can handle it."

-DENISE: She can handle it.
-That's the type
of person she was.

"I can handle it."

I would say to Judi,
"You know, maybe Nicole

should separate for a while
or some... some such thing."

And Judi would say,
"Well, he's gone so much.

"Don't jeopardize the welfare
of your children

because he has episodes

of bad behavior."

But, you know, we all have

our line in the sand.

She would feel that,
well, Nicole could avoid him

and go about her own life,

but still have
her family intact.

I-I feel that Judi,

it was...
her motives were always pure.

They were always
good and unselfish.

But I feel that

the cost of staying

with O.J. Simpson was too great

for Nicole.

In this case,
let me say up front

that Mr. Simpson
is not proud at all

of the fact that he and his wife

got into an altercation

and she was stuck--
struck on January 1, 1989.

He's not proud of that. In fact,

in the course of this evidence,
you're going to see perhaps

three letters that he wrote
apologizing to his wife.

From that day forward

to the present date,
there's no evidence

that O.J. Simpson
ever struck his wife again.

I think she wanted
everything to work so bad.

And I think that's
why she continued to keep

getting back together with O.J.,
because I think she hoped

that it would be
what she expected it to be.

DENISE: She wanted
to keep her family together.

And then
it got to a point where,

okay, it's enough
is enough already.

"I have to go,"
and that was after seven years.

(laughs) Yeah!

Nicole called me and asked me
if I wanted to go to lunch.

And that's when she told me

that she is going to leave O.J.

She said, "I'm n-- I can't...

and I won't live
like that anymore."

And she said,
"And I don't want my kids

"to...

"to be around that.

"I want them
to have really healthy,

normal lives and be happy."

And she said,
"And I'm not happy,

and so I don't want them
to feel it."

She loved those kids and...

they were her whole life.

She said, "I just want to,
I need to get away.

"I need to get out of the house.

And I want you to tell him."

(laughing)

I was in real estate
at that time.

She wanted me to find her

a-a lease.

And she wanted me to tell O.J.

that she wanted
out of the house.

I went to the Rockingham house

and... sat down
with her and O.J.,

and I said that...

I'm going to be looking
for a house

for Nicole and the kids.

And he was like,
"What are you talking about?

"That's not right.
It's not right from our kids.

It's not right.
You're making a mistake."

And then he started
to appeal to Nicole.

And she said,
"O.J., I'm doing it."

She stood firm.

And so we started
looking for a house.

And we came to this one that was

on Gretna Green, which
wasn't far, so we leased that.

REPORTER:
According to court documents,
O.J. told Nicole's mother...

-Okay. Kris.
-O.J.: Kris!

-Okay.
-Yes, Kris, oh, my God.

-Oh, my God.
-It's me.

I'm Kris Jenner.

When we met,

I think it was a really
fast friendship because

Robert and O.J. were so close.

One of my best memories

of Nicole was when she would

climb up on the roof
at Christmastime

and do all
of her own Christmas lights.

And that would just amaze me.

And, of course,
I would run home and try to do

my own Christmas lights,
because I thought, well,

if she can do it, I can do it.

I think Nicole was very careful,

and she didn't just
befriend everybody.

You know, she was
really warm and amazing,

but you got to know her first,

you know,
until she really let you in.

But, you know, when she did,
she was super loyal,

and she was
your friend for life.

I'd known of Nicole
just through Kris.

Immediately, she became someone
that I considered family,

considered a sister.

If there was ever a moment

that, you know,
you needed her for anything,

she would drop whatever she had
to come to your rescue.

I think ultimately, what really
brought us together--

and some of the other people
in her life--

was that she was experiencing
independence for the first time

in her adult life, ever.

Now Nicole had
a new group of friends

that were, you know, that we...

we're all gonna go out
and have fun.

You know, we were all
in our 30s and,

you know, she had a Ferrari.

(laughs)

KRIS:
"Late for a date."

That's her license plate.

Yep.

I think she just had
a lot going on

and was trying
to get everywhere--

but it was just
a cute kind of nod

to "Might be a little late."

(chuckles)

ROBIN: She started to get
closer with Faye,

and I wasn't... I didn't really
hang out with them as much.

Uh, Faye a-and I didn't have
as much in common,

and we weren't, you know...

I don't know, we just didn't
really mesh as friends.

Perhaps no one was more stunned
when the verdicts were read

than Nicole's best friend...

TV HOST:
Faye Resnick. She was the first

to tell the truth about O.J.

FAYE:
O.J. knows he's guilty.

He will always be ashamed
of what he's done.

I'm Faye Resnick.

I am one of Nicole's
very best friends--

or was one of Nicole's
very best friends.

Kris said she wanted
to introduce me

to her girlfriend Nicole.

She said, "You guys
are gonna get along great."

You meet Nicole,
and it was just,

she was so inviting
and so lovely

and just so airy and so natura.

She came down in a towel
because she was late.

"Sorry, guys. Sorry, guys.
I'll-I'll be right there."

And, you know, just with
that beautiful blond hair

that she just, like...
(exhales sharply)

The three of us,
Nicole, Kris and I,

it was the perfect storm.

I was telling her about
Marcus Allen's fiancée Kathryn.

I was hosting her wedding,
and Nicole was crying,

and she said

Marcus was not my friend.

And I didn't quite understand
what she was saying.

Then it kind of dawned on me.
I said, "Did something happen

with you and Marcus?"

And she says, "Yes,"
and I said, "Check.

Can I have the check, please?"
(chuckles)

Marcus was O.J.'s best friend.

-Besides A.C.
-ROBIN: They were friends,

but they were also competitive
with each other.

-MARCUS: They're
bringing her right away.
-He showed me her,

-but I mean,
I really didn't see...
-She's, like, so incredible.

She had the towel over her face.

He pulled it back,
she looked up at everyone

to-- as to say hello,
you know, like O.J. would do.

-(laughs): You know?
-ROBIN: And he was sort of

the new, improved O.J. Simpson.

You know, he also won
a Heisman,

he was, you know, the faster,

better O.J., younger.

It was like one of those
relationships that turned from,

he was comforting her,
you know, through
her divorce.

And I think it was just like

a n-- a natural thing
that shouldn't have happened.

ROBIN:
She didn't admit it to me,

but I showed up at
Gretna Green,

and, you know...

He's sitting on the couch,

and she's sitting
on the-the arm of the couch,

and she's got his--
her leg draped

over his leg, and she's like...

I'm like, "This is," you know,
"that's-that's not a buddy."

I mean, I don't, I don't treat
my buddies like that, but...

She didn't really want
anyone to know that

they were carrying on this,
you know, affair.

FAYE:
I-I really...

it was very hard...

to understand...

...why she would
go down that road.

She felt that he had
taken so much from her

that she didn't feel like
she owed him anything.

I was nervous about it.

The thought of her
being with anybody else

did not do well with him.

PETROCELLI:
And what did you say to Marcus?

I told him, uh,
"Marcus, uh, do me a favor

"and ease up on Nicole,
'cause whatever's happening

"with you guys
is really screwing her up,

'cause she's, like,
going bonkers."

Did it stop then?

-To your knowledge?
-I assume so.
To my knowledge, yes.

What did Marcus say to you
when you suggested

that he back off?

Uh, he was in a room
with people, he said nothing,

but the next week, he--
I was taking a nap,

and he walked into my bedroom
and apologized.

When you learned this, were
you surprised to hear this?

Yes.

Were you upset about it?

Mm, probably, yes.

NEWS REPORTER:
Nancy Ney was answering
the hotline

at a battered woman's shelter

five days before
Nicole Brown Simpson's murder

when she received a call
from a woman

identifying herself
only as "Nicole."

The caller said her famous
ex-husband had beaten her,

was stalking her and had
told her a couple of times

if he ever caught her with
another man, he would kill her.

Arguably the biggest celebrity
right now

at the O.J. Simpson trial,
Brian "Kato" Kaelin.

CLARK:
You a little bit nervous today?

-Feel great.
-(laughter)

Little nervous.

-(laughter)
-(cup clatters)

KIGHTLINGER:
Mr. Kaelin, are you nervous?

A little, yes.

CLARK:
Did you think it might
be advantageous to you

to stay with the defendant
and get to know him

for your acting career?

I don't think we're going
for the same parts.

-Really. I-I don't...
-(laughter)

I don't...

I'm an okay guy, and I think
I'm the guy next door

and I love all people and...

-You're just a nice guy
who wants to be loved?
-Yeah.

That's true.

Hi, everybody,
I'm Brian "Kato" Kaelin.

Nicole was in Aspen
with Faye Resnick,

and these are people I didn't
know at all at the time.

I'm just there
with my buddy Grant.

Nicole's eyes locked
with Grant's

'cause they knew each other
from celebrity events.

At the time,
Nicole was divorced,

and they connected.

Nicole and Grant
exchange numbers
and they start dating.

It was like at least a month
of seeing each other.

And then she had a party.

And then I saw the guesthouse,

and then I said,
"Who lives in this guesthouse?"

FAYE: It actually
worked out pretty well,

because she needed somebody
to pay part of the rent.

She was on her own, which
was great and she was happy,

but it was nice
having Kato in the back.

The times that O.J.
would come over to Gretna Green,

there were times
when you would think
they were

so much in love, like,
they're a great couple.

And then there could be
a time when they would,

I-I think they weren't talking.

And I would say, "W-- uh,

are you doing something
with O.J.?" and she would say,

"No, no, we're not seeing
each other this week,"

and-- uh, but I didn't know why.

You just, you could tell

there was just something
that went wrong.

When an argument
was happening or was brewing,

I could sense it.

The kids always would,
basically,

come to my room, sometimes.

If they came to my room,
I thought something

was brewing inside.

FAYE:
O.J., he was

kind of spying on her a lot.

Because he was realizing
that she was becoming happy.

(inhales)
And...

...he was, like, stalking,

hiding in the bushes.

Actually in the bushes.

"Be careful what you say,"
you know,

"he's-- could be
right next to us."

You know, "I saw him
last night in the bush."

"I don't want to get him,
you know, too upset and...

'cause he's watching
all the time."

PETROCELLI:
Any other men that, um,
came into her life

during this time period
that you and she discussed?

What do you mean by
"came into her life"?

In other words, men that she was
involved with romantically

or men that she was dating?

Probably was a few guys,
I can't recall their names.

You were, um, sort of
obsessed with-with her

having that relationship
with Keith, right?

No.

-Didn't bother you at all?
-Her with Keith?

With Marcus, with any of them?
Didn't bother me at all.

We had a couple of guy friends

that would be with us a lot,
Ron and Keith.

Couple of times O.J. showed up,

and that would
kind of freak her out,

that he was there,
and then we'd have to leave.

DOMINIQUE: In October,
she said that she had gotten

in an argument with O.J.
and he had banged on her door

and he broke something
on the door.

I mean, and that's
how she said it,

that it was
nothing more than that.

And apparently,
it was a lot more than that.

She said that the kids
broke the screen door.

She didn't make it seem like
it was that big of a deal.

Keith and Nicole, who were
seeing each other, were sitting

on the couch
at the Gretna Green house,

and there's a big
picture window.

If you're hiding in the bushes

and you're looking,
you can see them

kissing on the couch,
which apparently,

that's what O.J. was doing.

The next day, he confronted her.

I was coming back home.

I got to the house and...

the doors of her house
had been broken.

And I saw that they were off,
uh, the hinges,

and hinges were broken,
the doors were ready to fall.

They were just hanging
by a few of the screws.

Nicole had said, "O.J., O.J.
just broke these doors down.

He's insane, he's crazy."

And I said,
"You got to be kidding."

I don't even know
what the fight was about,

but obviously it w--
it involved violence

and enough for her to call 911.

She was scared.

I responded to a call
at Nicole Simpson's home

on Gretna Green Way
in-in Brentwood.

The officer that was
there first told me

he worked that area
quite a bit, and he said

that was a fairly common
situation

up there involving O.J.

There had been a number
of calls to the house.

That's actually what
jogged my memory

of the first call
with Marguerite Simpson.

You know, it was 20 years
before, however many years.

I originally thought maybe
it was the-the same wife

until I saw Nicole at the door.

MARKS:
She told me

that there had been
ongoing problems.

And then she said,

"I know for a fact
he's gonna murder me one day."

♪

And I-- that sort of
took me by surprise.

"If you know
he's gonna murder you one day,

"then how do we prevent that?

We need to
keep you away from him."

She sort of pooh-poohed it
and said,

"Well, uh, you know,
we're trying to work on things,

so, I mean, it's,
you know, what we have to do."

I think Lou is the one
who said, after she died,

that, "Well, you know,
O.J. broke in...

crashed the door
and went into the house."

And the kids were terrified
even, the kids were scared.

I believe the kids
did come downstairs.

I think
we all talked at the table,

and they had to be up
because I think we were

pounding the hammers
and nails in the doors.

And Nicole was, at that time,
after that time,

was very peaceful
in her manner of talking.

I don't think
she wanted to scare the kids,

and that just goes
back to her being a mom,

and the instinct sort of
kicked in of what to do.

-Merry Christmas.
-NICOLE: Is this Christmas?

REPORTER:
Two months later,
she and Simpson were
together again

for the children, Christmas '93.

People were talking about

them trying
to rekindle their relationship.

And it was
because of all the stalking

and everything that was going on

with him and her that she says,

"He's never gonna
leave me alone.

"I am never gonna
get rid of him.

I may as well go back to him."

Those were her words to me.

SCHAUER:
This is probably

a few months before the murders.

I pulled him over
on San Vicente Boulevard

in Brentwood for speeding.

And before I could say a word,

there was a man in there
who was insane,

acting like-like a lunatic,

screaming
at the top of his lungs.

His face distorted in anger,
his mouth was wide open.

I mean, there was actually spit
coming out of his mouth.

He was so angry.

He said,
"I'm effing O.J. Simpson."

I went back to the car
to write him up.

I went up to the car
with the ticket

to get him to sign it,

and it was like somebody else
had got in the car.

It was, it was the O.J. Simpson

that everybody knows and loves,

and I'd never seen
anybody be able

to flip a switch like that.

He said,
"I'm having a lot of problems

with my wife right now."

He said,
"You understand, right?

You're married, you understand."

Gave him his ticket,
and that was it.

While I'm living
at Nicole's house,

there was, um, uh,
rent had changed for her,

or something went on
that she had to move.

She moved to Bundy
because she got a settlement.

She got her settlement,
she was able to buy a place.

And she wanted
to pay cash for it

because she wanted to own it
and not have to worry.

And so that was her...

That was everything she wanted.

She had a nest
for her two children.

When I saw it, it was beautiful,

and there was a room
inside the house.

And I said, "I-I can't live
in the same hou--

I don't want to be
in the same house."

First of all, I just
didn't feel right about it.

And then I said,
"No, I'll find a place."

O.J. heard that,
and at that time

they were friends again,
and said,

"You can move into my house."

Nicole was very upset
and said I was--

I'd been manipulated by O.J.

FAYE:
They were still dating

when they were
living separately,

which was very awkward.

And she knew in her heart

that she didn't want
to be controlled,

and she knew that
he was controlling her.

As I knew her in those times,

she became more of herself

and had more of a voice.

And so the more of a voice
she had,

of course,
the more he would be upset.

He had turned her
into the perfect wife,

and that's
what he expected out of her.

I knew she had
reconciled with O.J.,

and she called me and asked me

if I wanted to come over
and spend the night.

She really told me about
that this time it was over.

He had yelled at her
because she was in the pool,

and she was topless in the pool
or something,

and he was, you know,
yelled at her about that,

and suddenly he was getting,
you know,

wanting her to cover up
and be, you know,

he was trying
to control her again.

And she realized that
this was gonna be

a really bad...

circle of, you know,
going nowhere.

Now it was for good.

I think he took that
as a real rejection,

and then he would have
to lash out at her.

She would lash out at him.

It just became, uh...

not good.

But at the same time,

she would never
speak illy of him

until the letter came.

It was something to do with,
he had given her money

that she had not declared
on her taxes,

and so he was coming after her

and he was gonna
turn her into the IRS.

She was angry.

She was angry that he would
threaten her and the children

and their ability
to live happily.

For her, "Yeah, okay,
you can treat me like dirt.

You can do it,
but not our children."

She was very good at hiding
things that O.J. did.

I mean, she only
really came clean with me

after they were divorced.

I just had too much information.

And I knew
he had a knife collection.

I don't know
if people know that.

He was very into knives.

And when we got married,

my father was a lifer marine,

and he had
a ceremonial sword with him.

And O.J. was fascinated
by that sword.

He took a hold of that sword,

swung him around,
and took the sword

like he was gonna cut his neck.

And it made me nervous
because...

when they were married,

there had once been
a conversation

while we were all out
for dinner

and we were talking small talk,

and somebody said,
"Well, what are you afraid of?"

My fear, of course, was always,

as a flight attendant,
being in a fiery crash,

you know,
fire, dying in a fire.

O.J.'s fear was drowning.

Nicole said at that dinner

she had fears
of being attacked from behind

and being slashed by a knife.

And...

go a couple of years
down the road

when they were having
a very difficult time.

We were sitting out
on the beach.

And she said, "D'Anne,
you remember that conversation?"

She said, "Whenever
we had these big fights,"

he would say to her,

"I am going to chop you up
in little pieces

"and bury you up on Mulholland,

"and no one will know
where you are,

not even your children."

DOMINIQUE:
Uh...

We had gone up
that night for a recital.

And it was Sydney's recital
for her school.

Then, you know, we all went
to the auditorium for the show.

It was the first time
that Simpson was actually...

His ticket was left
at will call.

He didn't come with us.

I thought, "That's kind of odd,"

'cause he's usually always there
at every, every event,

every kind of rec-- everything.

DOMINIQUE:
I sat with Nic, uh...

O.J. came in and he sat kind
of in the corner in the back.

It was, it was kind of weird.

All of a sudden,
Simpson was behind me,

and then Justin came
and sat on his lap.

And I-- so I turned around,
and then it was the first time

that I actually had
a conversation with him

where he would tell me,
or he told me,

that he was going to Chicago
that night.

And I thought,
"Well, that's kind of odd."

He's never, ever told me
that he was going anywhere

on a business trip, ever.

DOMINIQUE:
Every once in a while,
Nic would want to go outside

'cause she liked
to sneak cigarettes.

And we went outside,

and she asked me
about my son's father.

Like, "When you split up,

did he want to be around you
but not want to be with you?"

She said, "'Cause I feel
like O.J.'s staring at me."

That's when she told me,
she said,

"We're going to dinner later,
but it'll be

the first time
he's not invited."

Then we went to the restaurant,

and we were all sitting
around the table at Mezzaluna.

She goes, "Oh, God, there he,
there he goes again."

And I said, "What?"
And she goes, "There he goes."

She goes, "O.J. driving by."

And I go, I go, "God."
She goes, "Yeah."

She goes,
"It happens all the time."

KATO:
After the recital, O.J., uh,
was in the kitchen area.

He said, uh-- at the recital
she was wearing a mini skirt,

and, uh, wondering,
"How can someone at her age,"

he's saying, "What are they
gonna do when she's a grandma?

She can't be
wearing these outfits."

He had threatened.
He said, uh...

he didn't get time
to spend with the kids

after the recital,
so he was gonna play hardball

by telling her that he's
gonna report her to the IRS.

DOMINIQUE:
We were in the car
and we were driving home.

My mom was really quiet,
like, eerily quiet.

And she said,
"I-I don't have my glasses.

I forgot my glasses."

She was acting, like, funny.

DENISE:
She didn't talk
the whole way home,

which was so unlike my mother,

because we would've
talked about the recital,

we would've talked about dinner,

we would've
talked about something.

My mom walks in

and walks right by me, slowly,

like, slowly,
and I go, "Hi, Mom."

I go, "How was it?" Nothing.

She called Nic.

And she--
Nicole said, you know,

"It's okay.
Don't worry about it.

I'm gonna call over there,
and we'll get your glasses."

She had our waiter, who was Ron,

get the glasses.

He said that
he would drop them off.

And that's
how Ron ended up there.

My mother,
she was still not the same.

It was as if she knew
something was gonna happen.

And something did happen.

and I was one of
the lead investigators

on the O.J. Simpson
murder investigation.

Allan Park's a limo driver
who was sent to pick up...

O.J. the night
that this occurred.

He was a first-time driver.

He'd never been up there before,
so he always arrives early.

He gets there about 10:25 p.m.

I drove up there

and I pull up to his house,

I get out and I start
ringing the intercom,

and it's ringing into the house.

It rings and rings and rings,
and nobody picks up.

So I'm starting to wonder,
like...

"Is-is he here? Is he not here?"

About 10:35,

we have a witness.

He's walking his dogs.

He goes right down Bundy,

past the Bundy location.

He hears a communica...

It sounds like
an argument between two men.

Then he hears
the clanging of a gate

and he hears somebody yell,
"Hey, hey, hey."

He looks up
and he sees a white, uh,

box-like vehicle

leaving the scene on Bundy

at a high rate of speed.

My name is Jill Shively.

On June 12th, I woke up.

I wasn't feeling that well.
I'd had the flu.

I wanted to go to get
a salad bar or something healthy

at this place called
Westward Ho in San Vicente.

I left my home at 10:45 p.m.

So I... I looked at my clock

and I said, "Okay,
I have 15 minutes to

get there and get the food."

So I remember jumping in my car.

I'm at the--
driving up San Vicente,

and then I'm nearing Bundy.

At that intersection
is where I almost collide

with this Bronco
running the red light.

And it had no lights on,

so I didn't have
that much of a warning.

It swerved to miss me,

but then it had to
swerve to miss hitting

a gray Nissan
going the other way.

And then the Bronco has its, um,

wheel up on the median.

He was yelling at the other
driver to move out of the way.

Then it hit me.
I'm like, that's that guy,

that actor. That's O.J.

We had just seen the movie

Naked Gun 33 1/3 with my mom,

so that was why
I was able to recognize him.

He looked angry.

He obviously was in a rush.

But he looked like
I had done something to him.

And I remember being upset,

being angry at this,

I called him,
self-entitled person

who's drinking and driving.

So I went ahead
and I called LAPD.

So they took all my information.

She was kind of cynical,

like, "Well,
you're not hurt, are you?"

"No, I'm not hurt."
"Did he hurt anyone?" "No."

She didn't really want to

talk to me about O.J.

or what could have happened.

PETROCELLI:
Now, did you ever learn
that Nicole

was seeing Marcus again in 1994?

-No.
-In about March, April

-or May or June?
-No.

-Did anybody tell you that?
-No.

Did anybody tell you
that they saw his car

at Nicole's place at Bundy?

No.

The night of this tragedy,

when Nicole was killed,
by coincidence,

Marcus Allen and his wife

were to travel, I think,
to the Bahamas

or someplace for a golf
tournament that he was in.

Later on, it became known that

Marcus had missed the flight.

His wife had gone...

alone, and he had
taken the next flight.

Robert Kardashian told me
that he believed that

O.J. went to see Nicole.

O.J. may have
seen Marcus Allen's car

driving away
at the end of the alley.

If Kardashian's theory
is correct,

then you can see why O.J.

would have really flipped out.

You have to also understand

that, to this day, Marcus Allen

has never said a word about O..

All right,
you indicated that you

placed a phone call
to Rachel Ferrara

-at about 10:10 p.m.
-Yes.

And that during that phone call,
you were seated on the bed

with your back up
against that headboard?

Yes.

During that phone call, sir,

did something unusual occur?

-Yes.
-And what was that?

Around the 10:40-ish,
10:45 hour, I'm on the phone

with a woman named Rachel.

You know, we were just, uh,

chatting, and then these

unusual thumps happened.

But they weren't like thu...

Like, the word "thumps"
makes it sound,

you know, lesser than it is.

But it was, you know,

it was startling enough to where

he was like, "Oh, my God,
was there an earthquake?"

And I was like, "No."

KATO: The picture on my wall
is a picture

that moved like this.

And, you know, I said

there were the three thumps,

but it was like
these noises that were...

that were
loud enough to move it.

-It was, uh...
-(banging)

...like that.

So, I thought, oh,

logically, it's California.

I thought there
was an earthquake.

I'm still looking in
through the gates there,

and then that's
when I start to--

I notice a dark figure
coming from

the garage side of the house,

moving, you know, very quickly

and heading towards
the front of the door.

I figure, okay, well,
you know, that's him.
Somebody's here.

So I get back out
and I ring the intercom again.

It's ringing.
It's ringing for a little bit.

You know, for a little while.

It rings, rings, ring.

And he finally
picks up the intercom

and he says, "Hey, man.

"Hey, hey, sorry, I just
got out of the shower.

I'll be down in a minute."

I'm like, "Okay."

(line ringing)

I kept hearing...
I could hear in the distance

this ringing, ringing, ringing,

going over and over.

And, uh, it was the house phone,

you could hear
from the intercom,

and that's the limo driver.

That time, when I go to
hang up the intercom,

I see another person come out

from around
the back of the house,

who I know now is Kato.

He goes, "Oh, I'm here to
pick up O.J." or something.

And I was like, "Hey,
did we have an earthquake?"

I'm like, "No,
I didn't feel anything.

What, we had an earthquake?"

And he's like, "Are you sure?"

And I said,
"No, I didn't feel anything."

Then I saw luggage out in front

and, uh, I helped
the limo driver.

And then O.J. was outside.

He just appeared outside.

I couldn't tell
if he showered or not.

I mean, I did remember seeing
beads of sweat on him.

And I was gonna run to this bag

that was about 20 yards away.

And O.J. literally
jumped out and said,

"No, no, no.
That's okay, I'll get that bag.

Don't, don't touch that bag.
I'll get it."

ALAN:
You know,
and I thought it was odd.

You know, I thought
it was like,

"That's kind of weird.

Why is he
so protective of that bag?"

That's the bag that
no one's ever found.

Kato is still
talking about an earthquake.

So I remember O.J. telling Kato,

"You go around that way,"

meaning around the garage,

"and I'll go
back around the other way,

and we'll see if
anything's back there."

Kato starts to go
around the garage, and...

O.J. starts to
follow right behind him.

And I was like,
you know, that's kind of weird.

He just said he was
gonna go the other way.

So I start to follow O.J.

As we start to go around

the garage, he turns around,

he sees that I'm following him.

And at that point, he says,
"Oh, we got to go."

You know? "We're late.
We got to get out of here."

And I knew we were kind
of pressed on time and whatnot.

It was getting
a little bit late. And I said,

"Okay, let's--
Yeah, we got to go."

When I arrived at Bundy,
the street was blocked off.

The officers, before I arrived,
had been inside the home

and cleared the home

and had found
two children upstairs,

sound asleep,
that they had to wake up.

And they'd since
transported both of the kids,

uh, to West L.A. Station.

When I looked at the bodies,
I could see Nicole

had been severely slashed.

Her neck-- I observed
the vertebrae in the back.

She'd been nearly decapitated.

Goldman-- numerous
cutting stab wounds.

There'd obviously been,
in my mind,

a struggle of some type.

The front door was wide open.

If you look at
the footwear impressions,

they go up the stairs

and to a point
where they're just

beyond the door and they stop.

And whoever left those
impressions turns around

and looks back
towards the bodies,

and then turns around
the other way

and continues walking
towards the rear.

Candles lit downstairs.

We go upstairs.

There's a bathtub,
a large tub with drawn water.

There's candles
all the way around.

Is this a romantic setup

because her boyfriend came over?

No, not necessarily.

You can't jump
to that conclusion.

Kitchen was...
no, there were no dirty dishes.

I've got a knife,
a butcher knife.

There's no trace on there.

There's no fingerprints
on there.

There's no nothing.

Just prior to the murders--

this is about ten,
ten days, I think--

Nicole tells her mom Juditha

that she is missing keys
to her home at Bundy,

the front door and the gate.

And that she is concerned that

O.J. may have taken them

the last time
he was there to see the kids.

I think there's a possibility,

as evidenced,
that she was concerned

for her safety because

she knew that he was
stalking her and following her.

We're gonna need
some answers here.

What's going on
with all of this?

DOMINIQUE:
She was gone.

DENISE:
I said, "Oh, my God,

he finally did it."

DOMINIQUE:
O.J. stopped me

and he says,
"You have to come with me

to go see Nicole."

D'ANNE:
Dita turned to him

and said, "Did you do this?"

I was like,
"He's gonna tell her he did it."

(sirens wailing)

ROBIN:
He's not going
to kill O.J. Simpson.

It's much easier
to kill other people.

(woman speaking Spanish)

-DENISE: It was madness.

Who's talking to the media?

Who's going to say something?

I totally believe in

my friend's innocence.

She was just another girl

and he was O.J.

We opened the safe
deposit box

and she had a diary
that lists abuse.

DOMINIQUE:
They're just being hidden.

We, the jury,
in the above entitled action

find the defendant not guilty
of the crime of murder.

so many people's lives?

The fact that he is
a convicted wife batterer

means that he may present a rik
of harm to these children.

He took 'em away.

INTERVIEWER: Were you aware
of events in Florida?

There was close to
17 police reports we found.

O.J. Simpson did receive MDMA,
um, and other narcotics.

He was a user.

Who was there to protect them?

if the person that murdered

is caring for them?
