Uh, is there, there's only
one name I don't want to say,

DENISE:
Okay.

Him.

DENISE:
I was always protecting Nicole

even when we were young.

The two of us being less than
two years apart in age,

we had that closeness.

I was born in Germany,
in Frankfurt.

My mother is German,
she was in Stuttgart.

And my father was an American.

And he went over there
for World War II.

And they met after the war.

He decided
that he was going to move

the family to California and

it was just Nicole and I

until 1964,
when Dominique was born.

I feel like I've kept my Nicole

really private for so long.

She was very, very stubborn.

She was very, very determined

to a point where she was gonna
do what she wanted to do

no matter what.

My mom called her hard-headed.

You know, maybe it's time
to rekindle the...

the flame of Nicole.

The dynamics
between Nicole and I,

we were just always together.

When we moved to Laguna Beach

down to Monarch Bay,

I was a-a senior
and she was a junior.

And everybody thought,
"Oh, that's gonna be

so difficult for the girls."

And... I don't know.

It wasn't difficult for us,
and I think

it was because
we had each other.

We would talk
about the boys and,

you know,
about her dreams, about,

you know, wanting her kids

and wanting to be a mom.

Everybody running
around the house,

and just like
what my mom and dad had.

TANYA:
We're really lucky.

We come from a really...
kind of a perfect family.

But we're not perfect.

But compared
to what's out there,

we're really blessed
to have the family that we did.

Oh, I just escaped that!

My name is Judie Manto.

And I've been friends
with the Brown family

for approximately 50 years.

Judi, who is Nicole's mother,

probably my best friend.

And she was a nurturing,
beautiful woman.

Judi and I kind of gravitated
to one another.

We'd spend a lot of time
at each other's houses.

I have often thought,

in regards to my friend Judi,

would we rather have spared...

...ourselves
the terrible heartbreak

of some of the events
we've been through,

never having known these
people?

And when I give myself
that test, it's always...

no, I want to know
and love these people.

That's better.

I think living in Monarch Bay,

it was a bit being
in a bubble for our children.

Nicole had a great friend,
fortunately,

who was a neighbor young man.

So they became roommates
in Los Angeles.

And that was a relief
to the Browns.

I'm David LeBon.

I've known the Brown families
for almost 40 years.

(cheering, clamoring)

Nicole decided that she wanted

to come move up
when she was 18 to live with me.

I had a studio apartment,
very small apartment.

Just one bed in the living room
that folded out like a couch.

I let her sleep on that,
and I had a sleeping bag.

It was good times back then,
really good times.

A lot of things
I just don't remember.

It's been a long time.

When you talk to my ex-wife,

she remembers when she was
three. I can't, so, you know?

-Oh, that's all right.
-Dirty like me.

Joey likes it.

My name is D'Anne Purcilly.

And I was married
to David LeBon.

When I first met Nicole,

the stories that were
told to me

were stories when she moved in

with my ex-husband David
in Hollywood.

And David said she went to work

at The Daisy and she was
working as a hostess.

And that's where she met O.J.

DAVID: Nicole came home
one night and she said,

"I've met this guy."

He kept coming in
and seeing her and

he had this obsession about her.

She just said, "Oh, he's a,
he's some football player.

that's all I know,
and his name's O.J. Simpson."

And I went, "Oh, crap."

She goes, "Well, I think,
you know, we're gonna go out."

And I went, "Oh, geez, really?

Well, he's much older."

So I said,
"Well, when you go out,

I want you home by 12:00."

David said he picked her up
in his Rolls Royce.

Impressed her. I mean, you're
talking about an 18-year-old.

They came home from the date.

And when she came home,

her pants were ripped.

The zipper was ripped,
and they were jeans.

And Dave is like,
"You can't just rip jeans

like a linen-something
or, you know."

And I said, "Nicole, what hap--
what happened to you?"

"He got a little forceful."
And I said,

"Why would you let him
do that to you?

Why, on your first date,
would you, you know?"

"David, calm down."
And I was so pissed.

He was really upset,
and he wanted to go out

and, you know,
kind of have a few words.

And she said, "No, don't.
I really like him.

I really, really like him."

She fell in love with him

I think the first time
she met him.

She's just a girl from Laguna

that met a guy
that swept her off her feet.

They fell in love.

And...

had this perfect little life.

MAN'S VOICE:
Oh, dear God.

In the 60s,
I became a sports photographer,

working for Sport magazine.

And SC had a great,

great football team
led by O.J. Simpson.

And I-I made a very,
very iconic picture

of O.J., you know, breaking that
record and winning the game.

One day my daughter,
on a Sunday,

comes running into the house.

And she says, "Well, I missed.

He threw a long one
and I missed it."

I said, "What do you mean

he threw a long one
and you missed it?"

She says, "Well, O.J., you know,

he lives across the street,
up the street."

I said, "No, I didn't know
he lives there."

And she says, "Well, yeah,
every Sunday, you know,

"in the early morning, while
you and Mommy are sleeping,

"we go out
and he throws footballs

and long ones for us.
He plays with the kids."

One morning, all of a sudden,

we get a knock on the door.

There's a police officer
that says,

"We just got a call here.
What's wrong?

"You know,
I'd like to come in, uh,

see your wife,
speak to her, you know?"

And I said, "Why?"

He says,
"Well, we just got a call."

And I said,
"Who are you looking for?"

"Well, this is
the Simpson home, isn't it?"

And I said, "No, he's
diagonally across the street."

He went up to the house there,

and I don't know
what happened after that.

I'm Terry Schauer.

I'm retired
Los Angeles police officer.

It was in the '70s.

My partner and I received
a radio call, domestic violence.

It was in a residential
neighborhood

that's off Mulholland Drive,
west of the San Diego Freeway.

And we got to the home,

and we were met at the door
by a woman.

She'd got into an argument
with her husband,

and during the course
of the argument,

he became violent with her,
struck her.

As I recall,
he pulled out some of her hair.

I believe-- my memory is that
there was a clump of hair

on the floor in the entryway
of the home.

The children were there,
you know, being kids,

just kind of standing around,
didn't seem overly upset,

that I recall. She was upset.

He had left the scene.

We spoke to her briefly

and kind of got
what story we could,

but she didn't really want

to go into a lot of details
about it.

She just wanted
to leave the house,

and she had no transportation.

She declined a report
and wouldn't sign a report.

She said,
"My husband's O.J. Simpson,

the football player."

She identified herself
as Marguerite Simpson.

O.J.:
Marguerite, well, you know,
she's my lady, and, uh,

I was a little wild
before I met her,

and she's settled me down.

MARGUERITE:
I love the area that we live i.

It's quiet, you know, and, uh,
we have a lot of time together.

Usually, he plays
a lot of tennis.

SCHILLER:
Marguerite, his first wife,

would talk about him
getting very, very angry

and flipping out and, uh,

using maybe the back of his hand
or something like that,

or push or shove her
and this or that.

And it became...

I don't want to say
the talk of the neighborhood,

but Marguerite wasn't afraid
to express herself

and her difficulties
with those people.

The short and long of it is,

sometimes,
the aftermath of an event

is more telling
than the event itself.

Her name is Veterdata Jones.

After months of watching
her famous brother-in-law's

fall from grace,

she decided
she had to speak out.

What about reports O.J.
was abusive to your sister?

Are those true?

They had their moments where
they would disagree on things,

but they were both very private.

My name is Veterdata Jones.

I am Marguerite's
youngest sister.

I believe they met
in high school.

But she was originally dating
Al Cowlings.

O.J.:
A.C. Al Cowlings. (chuckles)

Al and I, I mean,
what can you say?

If anybody say,
"Well, O.J. hasn't changed."

Well, Al probably has
a lot to do with that.

VETERDATA:
A.C.-- Al Cowlings--
introduced her

to Orenthal James,

and O.J.

moved in on my sister,
and I guess they had chemistry

and decided to

become a couple.
I don't know. (chuckles)

They all remained
very close friends.

I was five years old.

I was flower girl
in their wedding.

And when I was
in elementary school,

he was in his
freshman year at USC,

and he was famous.

It...

...affected the way
my sister felt about him

and their relationship
as a whole.

He was no longer
the person that she married.

She felt that
his fame had created

someone else, like,
he became a different person.

I would not want to... Yeah,
I don't think I should go there.

I think she should
address that herself,

if she wants that
aired and publicized.

I think that's her prerogative
to address that.

It was challenging
for them both,

Margie and O.J., um,

to try to come together
and reach a happy medium

in their relationship.

They were in the process of...

I don't know at what point
in the relationship,

at Rockingham.

I know it was
a joint effort to refurbish

the English Tudor, the home,

and things just seemed
to have gotten worse.

The paparazzi escalated
with information

about him and other women.

I don't know if he met Nicole
before Rockingham.

I do not know when
that relationship started.

He certainly didn't
share it with me.

I mean, we were pretty close.

O.J. was always like a brother,

not like my brother-in-law,

and I would say to O.J.,
"You're my brother-in-law."

And he said,
"No, I'm your brother."

And to this day,
he still insists.

He says, "I'm your brother."

God, it makes me want to cry.

Because I felt

the pain between
O.J. as well as my sister,

my compassion for them both.

Marguerite and I
had just realized

and decided the night before

that it wasn't working with us,

but it was our anniversary,
so I went into Beverly Hills.

I bought her a coat,
and I ran into a friend of mine.

He said, "Let's have breakfast."

And when we walked in,
this... this vision

turned to me and said,
"Where do you want to sit?"

Before I went to the party,
I had to explain to her

that I was married. (laughs)

Nicole was really in love.

She became a, you know,

a girlfriend of someone who was
very famous, an arm piece.

Dave said, just over the course
of a month or two,

he had just...

brought her in and

turned her into...

like, a starlet.
She was just so beautiful.

She would tell me these things,
like, you know,

"O.J. taught me how
to hold my mouth

"when pictures were being taken

"and how to hold my head
and how to stand

and present myself."

So, she was... I felt like she
was just being molded by him

by the time that I met her,
and...

But she was very happy
and very in love.

There was always
a sexual tension

between O.J. and Nicole.

You could just feel it

when somebody has chemistry
for another person,

and that's what it felt like.

JUDIE:
Judi was really happy.

She would say,
"He's a big football player."

You know, she-she thought
that that was great, and it was,

of course. He was one of
the best football players ever.

And then the things
that he would do to annoy Judi,

she would just blow it off,
you know, like, oh, so what?

It's nothing.

Like having them all have
to have manicures and pedicures.

Which I find odd,
but... (laughs)

I mean, if you want your wife
to have manicures and pedicures,

great, go for it.

But Judi would say, you know,
we'd be in our sandals,

and she-she'd say,

"O.J. would hate to look
at my toes right now.

They're not painted right,"
or something, and I go, "What?"

Um...

(sighs)

O.J. would consult Judi a lot.

He would call her for advice.

DENISE:
He felt like
he could call her anytime.

And he did call her anytime.

He called her in good times, and
he also called her in bad times.

When they were having
an argument or a fight,

he would round up
his posse, basically,

to say, "Your daughter did this.

Your daughter did this."

You know, to bitch about Nicole.

O.J. would say that
she was being crazy

or oversensitive.

Being oversensitive, basically,

turns it into she did something
that was wrong,

and it was not his fault that
they were having an argument.

The only thing is that
then they would make up,

and my parents would still
be thinking about it.

But it was like
they would have arguments

like couples have arguments.

ANNOUNCER:
San Francisco, 1977,

the same year
Nicole and O.J. met,

she writes, "The abuse began."

Nicole's secret journal is
a diary of hate and violence.

DOMINIQUE:
I would call her, or she would
call me. I'd be at work,

and, um, we would have
our conversations.

She'd say,
"Yeah, we got in an argument

last night, but, you know,
it was no big deal."

I mean, was there something
I should've picked up on?

I probably will always
think that, you know?

Was there something,
was she trying,

was she sending me
subtle-subtle hints of...

that something was going on?
I don't know.

Which makes me think,
because everybody

needs somebody to talk to.

And I don't think
she had somebody to talk to.

-NICOLE: (laughs) Hi, Mom.

D'ANNE:
A.C. has been around as long
as O.J. had been around

the Brown family because they
were pretty much best friends.

He... truly cared

...for Nicole, too.

(growling)

KELLY: After Marguerite
and Simpson were divorced,

did you remain friends
with Marguerite?

Uh, yes.

KELLY:
Do you recall ever discussing

the divorce with Mr. Simpson
prior to it happening?

No.

KELLY:
He never told you why

-he was divorcing Marguerite?
-(sighs)

At the time, him and Nicole
was going with each other, so...

I assumed that
he wanted to marry Nicole.

KELLY:
Do you recall when...

...Marguerite moved out
of Rockingham

and O.J. moved in there?

I guess that
would've been in s...

in, uh, the fall of '79,
I-I guess.

Oh, yeah.

I think there was, um...

um, defiance and anger
and resentment on her part,

and it overrode sound judgment
and good sense, perhaps.

So, that's probably why
the police had to come.

It wasn't because she didn't
have enough money to go.

After they divorced,

she was walking through
the department store,

and she saw

O.J. carrying a bunch of bags
and Nicole at his side.

The divorce was not even
a year old, so that was hard.

And she came home devastated,

really hurt, angry.

Like, how could you?

It's like putting
a dagger in her gut

and turning it around, like...

And I don't mean
to describe it like that,

but she was traumatized.

She was very hurt.

I don't know if she had

a good relationship
with Marguerite or not,

but I do know
she was a great stepmom.

I think it was a little strained
with Arnelle, but not bad.

I-I know she loved Arnelle.

O.J.:
There's a little Arnelle.

DENISE:
Arnelle, being a girl,

I think she tolerated Nicole.

You know, she was more
on the side of Mom.

You know, like, you broke up
my mom and dad.

You know, that type of thing.

'Cause girls
stick with their mothers.

I know Arnelle
would kind of make fun of

the way she would
say certain words

or swirl her hair around,

but they were starting
to all get close

and come together.

And my sister had let down
some of her barriers.

Now, she had
a great relationship with Jason,

just a nice kid.

Now, he had
kind of a rough time,

uh, with his dad.

My son is 14.
We had a duke-out just recently.

You actually had a little
fight with your son?

Oh, a little boxing match.

I had to let him know that, uh--

You mean you were
in the ring with him?

Oh, no. In my front yard.

D'ANNE:
One night they had
a horrible fight,

and Nicole actually called us

and said, you got to get here,

because Jason was attacking

this statue outside
with a baseball bat.

He was so angry at his dad.

She would go up and give
him big hugs and kisses

and, you know, got to try
and understand your dad.

She knew that she was
probably the main cause

of their parents'
marriage demise,

and I think
she carried that with her.

And went out of her way

to make sure
that those kids knew

that they were welcomed
and loved in that house.

My name is Robin Greer,

and I was close friends
with Nicole Brown Simpson

over the years.

The first time that I went
to the Rockingham house,

Nicole was living in that house,

and she was definitely
the lady of the manor.

Rockingham was like

a slightly cleaner version
of the Playboy mansion.

And it would be
a lot of celebrities

and-and a lot of beautiful girls

and it was sort of the place

to see and be seen,

and everybody wanted
to go... go there.

It was, like, really
a great invitation.

Rockingham, to me,
was like Camelot.

At the time, I thought
they were a great couple.

I mean, they seemed like
they knew their roles,

and that's what they--
And they liked doing it,

and that was their routine.

And, you know,
she was basically just

somebody who, I think,
enjoyed running the show

but not being the show.

She let him be the show.

She had her work
cut out for her,

trying to be so perfect.

It's a lot of work
to keep up an image,

to have to...

make everybody happy
all the time.

That's hard.

He's stressing me out.
His explanation was,

"Well, I've been away all week.

Yeah, I want 100% of her
when I'm home."

-PRODUCER: Yeah.
-And that would make her
really tense.

Because she was a perfectionist.

She wanted everything
to be perfect.

She did tell me that he has
a bad temper, which we knew.

DENISE:
I was up in Los Angeles
with Nicole,

and we all went out to dinner.

We went to a Mexican restaurant,

and we started drinking tequila

and having a good time.

And all of a sudden,
we come back to the house...

...and they had
this beautiful bar,

and he starts making
more margaritas.

And so we keep drinking
the margaritas

and drinking the margaritas.

And then at one point,

I had to open up my mouth.

I said, you know, you really
do take my sister for granted.

He started screaming at me.

O.J.:
(bleep) in the living room.

-They were here.
-NICOLE: (sighs) I'm sorry.

(O.J. shouting)

That went to
walking from the bar,

going to the staircase,

throwing pictures of our family

down into the foyer.

(O.J. shouting indistinctly)

But this is the first time
I ever saw him,

because, you know how people,
when they get angry,

they're, they, like, pulsate.

Their, like, everything
starts pulsating here and here.

And I just saw that, and I saw,
like, glazed-over eyes

where it didn't even look
like he was there anymore.

He comes back down the stairs,

and Nicole is standing there.

He grabs her by the throat,

and he puts her up against
the kitchen door,

and he's got her
this far off the ground.

At one point, she was
at the, uh, at a door,

and this is something
that Denise spoke about.

And she started knocking
my pictures and things down.

KELLY:
What pictures
was she knocking down?

Whatever pictures
that were around.

On the stairway?

Stairway had a table
in my entry, uh, armoire

that had
a lot of pictures on it.

She just swiped them all off.

KELLY:
While you were-- She, you were
yelling at one another?

I wasn't yelling.

What was the, uh,
disagreement about?

I don't-- I don't,
I really don't know.

(O.J. shouting indistinctly)

Nicole is standing there.
He grabs her by the throat,

and he puts her up against
the kitchen door,

and he... throws her out
the door,

and she ends up on her butt

and ends up with
bloodied elbows.

And then he throws me
out the door.

But I didn't fall down.

Then, nothing was
talked about anymore.

Life went on as usual.

We went over to the house.

It wasn't discussed again.

One of our friends w-who
is very close with Nicole,

she told me of some really
horrible fights

leading up to them
getting married.

HOST:
This is Elaine Young,
who is Jennifer's mother.

She is a realtor to the stars
in Los Angeles,

and she sold O.J.
that famous house in Brentwood.

Let's talk to Jennifer first.
Y-You were you having--

Were you in this restaurant
having lunch already?

Yes, well, we were waiting
to be seated at a table.

I was walking out
of the restaurant

with a guy named Randy England,

but Elaine Young's daughter
was walking down,

and we were talking
as we walked out,

and we weren't
with these people.

He was kind enough
to ask us to join him.

I was with a girlfriend of mine.

He was very sweet.

So then did he invite you over?

Um, yeah, in fact,
we had lunch with him.

Nicole showed up, and I don't
know what Nicole thought,

and she said something
very unpleasant to the girl.

KELLY:
Did you talk to Nicole
after this incident

to find out
what it was all about?

-I tried to.
-What did she say?

She didn't.
That was the incident.

That was the time she moved out.

And went to my friend's and
I proposed to her the next day.

She said, "I'm getting married."
I said, "Excuse me?"

And she goes, "I want you
to be my maid of honor."

And I said, "Okay."

And she goes,
"Yes, he's gonna get baptized.

"Everything is gonna change.

He's gonna become a new person"

And that was after
seven years of dating.

They dated for seven years.

And Nicole was under this...

illusion that Simpson's
gonna get baptized

and he's going to be
a different person.

And she really believed that

because so much had already
happened seven years prior

before they got married,
you know,

as far as, you know,
like infidelities

and things like that.

But she wanted to believe it.

Let's just keep
our fingers crossed.

Let's just pray to God
that, yes,

her fairy-tale wedding

and her fairy-tale life
is going to come true.

The image of Nicole has been
one of tragedy, even innuendo.

Seeing this wedding video for
the first time, we see Nicole,

the real Nicole, as a sweet,
lovely, innocent young woman.

Nicole's wedding
was held at Rockingham.

Lou and Judi were very happy
about the marriage

and very happy at the occasion.

-So pretty, wow.
-Look at you.

ARNELLE:
She's not like our stepmother,
she like a best friend.

JASON:
Yeah, like a special friend.

ARNELLE:
Yeah, like a best friend.

Because we've known her
for so long

and we shared so much with her.

PASTOR:
I trust that by the way
you value life,

that you will lead
Nicole to say,

"Oh, God, I'm a woman
most fortunate.

For out of all of this world,
O.J. has chosen me."

I don't know if it was a band
or DJ, I don't remember that,

but "We are Family" came on.

That-- I think it's
Sister Sledge--

and all of us, the entire girls,

and I think my dad, too.

And we just danced around,
holding hands,

arms around each other, singing
the song "We are Family."

And still, to this day,
when I hear that song,

I remember that night.

It was a great wedding.

I'll be-- I'll be good to you.

They got married in February.

Sydney was born in October.

So, Sydney could've been
a honeymoon baby.

She could have been
a pre-honeymoon baby.

She loved
being pregnant, though,

except for she got really heavy.

Yeah, she got really heavy.
And he didn't like that.

I think for her it was difficult
to be pregnant

only because he was
not nice to her

when she was pregnant.

He would always say,

"You've got such a fat ass,
why don't you go on a diet?"

She was pregnant.

She was pregnant when
he would tell her that,

when he would, he would say
things like that,

and she would turn around
and she would say,

"I am carrying your baby.

I am carrying your child."

I remember her telling me
one time,

she says, you know what?
You're so lucky

that you don't have a husband.

You don't have a person
telling you what to do.

We were talking about
delivering our babies

and she said, "O.J. does not
want me to deliver vaginally."

And he did not want her nursing.

I'm like, well, that's sick.

She said he wanted her

to keep the same body
that she had.

I can't imagine any wife saying,

"Oh, yeah, I'm gonna
have a C-section,

or I'm not gonna nurse
because you don't like it."

You can see how that--
those were all control things

that he did with her.

I don't believe
that I had this baby.

O.J.:
Look at me.

-We got a little girl.
-Do I have dopey eyes?

O.J.:
Yeah, you seem
a little out of it.

Sydney was the first little
baby that came into this world.

She has lots of little hair
on her forehead.

We actually went to the hospital

when she gave the--
gave birth to the baby.

Everybody was there,

and everybody was very happy
for them.

O.J.:
Hi, Robin. Say something.

Hi. Congratulations.

I think her dream
was coming true.

I love Sydney.

O.J.:
But she's doing okay?

-Do you love her?
-O.J.: I love her very much.

DOMINIQUE:
Nicole decorated Sydney's room.
It was beautiful.

She had those bassinets
when she was born.

Nicole asked me
to be Sydney's godmother.

So when she was christened,
I became her godmother.

She was wearing that, like, uh,

I think at that point,

When she came down to Laguna,

it was like she had
a smile on her face.

She turned into the beach girl
that she was before.

She seemed to be happy.

I was a pharmacist for 50 years.

I moved to Blue Lagoon.

Next door was Victoria Beach.

I knew they lived there,
but I hadn't seen them.

We walked down to the beach--

it was on a Saturday--

and we saw O.J. Simpson
and his-his wife Nicole.

She was facing him,
he was facing into the water,

and she was kind of, like,
animated in front of O.J.

We're going by,
and then, all of a sudden,

he reached out and slapped her.

With one arm,
he just knocked her down.

Hit her face and she went down.

We kind of stood for a while
and walked a little way--

but we kept looking.

He bent down,
trying to console her.

Really, he was trying
to stop her from crying,

and she was having none of it.

And he just kept staring out
towards the ocean,

didn't look at the people
that were in back of him.

They were kind of, like,
all surprised.

She seemed to me like sh--
when she was down

and she was crying and
saying a few things to him--

i-it was inaudible to us--

that she was more or less hurt
that he even did that.

Maybe...

she was as surprised as we were.

I would go to their beach house,

and she'd be fixing dinner
and she'd have dogs there

and kids running around
and so on.

And he just would come

and it would be like a black
cloud all of a sudden.

Uh, so...

I'd hear about them
out, you know, during the day.

You know, "Oh, did you hear that
they were at lunch at Toscana?

And "she had," you know,
"two glasses of wine,

and they were," you know,
"making out" or something--

you know, just basically
trying to keep,

keep the flame alive
kind of thing.

She kept herself
in very good shape,

and it was almost like she
was competing with herself

as well as others.

I heard about, you know,
the... the affair thing.

The Tawny Kitaen.

REPORTER:
Her name is Tawny Kitaen,

a beautiful, sexy actress
who made her name

as the sizzling star
of music videos.

These days, Tawny Kitaen

is most famous
for her frequently reported

off-screen relationship
with O.J. Simpson.

INTERVIEWER:
When did you meet O.J.
originally?

TAWNY:
I met O.J. in '82. '82, '83.

INTERVIEWER:
And he was then with
Nicole Brown Simpson?

-TAWNY: Yes, he was.
-They were still married?

I think that went on
for a while.

That affair.

During that time,
Nicole was pregnant with Justin

three months before me, and I
was pregnant with my son Aaron.

Judi was aware of his cheating.

When she was in the hospital
giving birth,

her husband, O.J. Simpson,

had someone in her house.

And there were pictures
of Nicole all over,

and he simply put them face down

so that the woman
wouldn't see them.

Sick.

-NICOLE: Look.
-O.J.: Oh, look.
And there's Corby.

What did Daddy say
about one finger?

Daddy said,

Christmas, 1988,
my whole family decided

that we wanted to go
to Hawaii for Christmas.

Actually, I think it was Nicole

who decided that we, you know,

"Well, come on,
let's go to Hawaii."

And I thought, "Why Hawaii?

There's no snow in-in Hawaii."
(laughs)

So we went over to Hawaii,

and it was really a great trip
until it wasn't.

KELLY:
Do you recall any argument

between Nicole and O.J.

during this vacation?

A.C.:
It was more of a comment
that she made.

We were all sitting
in-in a large dining room.

KELLY:
Do you know where you were,

-first of all?
-At a restaurant.

KELLY:
Who was there
at the restaurant with you?

A.C.:
All of us.

KELLY:
Okay, was this for lunch
or dinner?

A.C.:
I would say lunch.

There was a gay couple

that was sitting at the table,

and they just thought
Justin was just beautiful.

One of the guys, he kissed
Justin on the forehead...

...and it was, like,
so sweet and so nice.

And as soon
as we walked outside,

all hell broke loose.

After Nicole had

let the man hold the baby,

she took the baby back.

O.J. supposedly had said,

you know, "Why did you have
that gay guy hold my baby?"

Or something like that.
And she says,

"Why are you concerned
about him being gay?

Your father is gay."

And O.J. got very upset
with her.

JAMES:
People meet you in the streets

and they always ask you
what it is to have a son,

you know, as famous as O.J.
and how you feel about it.

And I tell them,

"I just relax and stretch

and break all the buttons
off my shirt

and have them
sewed on next week."

We're very proud of that.

And he was gonna fly off
the island that night.

He was going--
He said, "I'm out of here."

DENISE:
"How could you let
a gay man kiss my son?"

She ran out of the car.
He was going crazy.

She ended up taking off
and going with my parents.

I couldn't get out of the car
anymore because he was driving

like a lunatic
in the parking lot.

And then we ended up
going back to the hotel.

As we were going back, I said,

"Slow down."

I said, "Slow down, calm down."

I said,
"The guy didn't hurt him."

I said, "It was nothing,
it was no big deal."

KELLY:
And when was the next time

you spoke to Simpson?

I think we all ended up
going out that night.

KELLY:
Did you speak to Simpson again

about what had happened
that day?

No, I didn't.

Seemed like they were,

you know,
they were sitting together.

Seemed like, I guess whatever
difference that they had,

they patched it up.

DENISE:
The next day,

I saw her with a shirt,

long-sleeve shirt on,
and I was like,

"Nicole, it's hot.
Why are you...?"

She goes, "Oh, no, I'm just
gonna stay in the shade here,

and I'm just gonna stay
with Justin."

I knew he was pissed off, but I,

I didn't know anything else
that happened

behind closed doors.

I read in her diary afterwards

that he had her up
against the wall

over the balcony,

doing the usual...

hurting her
because of this incident.

When we left Hawaii,

Nicole was going
to a New Year's Eve party.

That's why we left.

D'ANNE:
We were supposed to be having
our New year's Eve party

and we got a telephone call
pretty late at night,

and it was Nicole.

And she said, "We got
to drinking down the street

"and so nobody can drive.

So we're just gonna stay here
and party here."

"Oh, yeah, no problem.
Have a great time.

Happy New Year, la, la."
And we hung up.

And then we, of course,

all woke up
to New Year's Day with news

that Nicole was
at the police station

and he had...

...hit her.

DISPATCHER:
911 emergency.

-(woman screams)
-DISPATCHER: Hello.

KELLY:
Had you seen Nicole

-New Year's Eve?
-Yes, I did.

She collapsed on it
and-and started yelling,

"He's gonna kill me,
he's gonna kill me."

She said she was frightened
you were going to kill her.

No, she did not say that.

The cost of staying
with O.J. Simpson

was too great for Nicole.

ROBIN:
That's when she told me

she is going to leave O.J.

DOMINIQUE:
The thought of her being
with anybody else

did not do well with him.

My mom went straight
to the phone

and called Nicole.

It was as if she knew

something was gonna happen.

And something did happen.

NEWS REPORTER:
Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman

were found just after midnight.

NEWS REPORTER 2:
...dead from a knife wound
to her throat.

DENISE:
He said,
"Your sister's been killed."

And I said, "He did it."

And he said, "Who?" (crying)

JUDIE:
The police had spoken to us
and said, "We're watching him."

ROBIN:
We said,
"What is going on here?"

D'ANNE:
She said, "It's O.J.

He's on the 405 freeway
coming down here to us."
