Old man,

your son Tsung-pao gets married today

They're a good match

He has taste

He's chosen an able, pretty wife

May she perpetuate our family tree early

and set your mind at ease

Attention

Can't wait to get married?

A silly question!

You should take a break

Isn't this the way we're going?

We're mere extras. Make way. The star's coming

What a bore!

It's rather festive

It's not that somebody's stolen your brother

Act as if he's stolen somebody's daughter

But why didn't he find a prettier one?

Yeah!

She's ugly?

Then what about you two?

Shut up!

The bouquet…

Make way. Let's take a photo together

Right, a photo

Wait, I'm coming

Closer

Be careful. My antiques

Sorry

Move closer

Forget it

Open your mouth

Lotus seeds for posterity

Come for the group picture

Come on

Where shall I stand?

Ling, I haven't taken the photo yet

Ling, come over

Don't be cross. Go take a picture

Mina Superintendent Liu

Congratulations, Madam Huang

Mina

Congratulations

Here are your favorite yellow roses

Thank you, on behalf of my husband

This is from the Chief

I'm in the way. Please excuse me

Sir

Just a picture of our family, okay?

Fine, a family picture

I have to report for duty the day after my wedding?

Sorry. I can't help you there

We're waiting for you

Be careful, daughter-in-law

Ready?

Closer

Come on

What are you doing? You're not a Huang!

Why are you here?

Shut up!

Had it not been for your godbrother

do you think you'd be where you are?

Fine. Don't let me ruin the party

Closer. Heads up. Ready

Luckily, I'm half a Huang

You've accepted the bride by drinking the tea

It's black tea, but tea all the same

I've already done my duty

Have you done yours?

Apart from continuing the Huang family tree

What else have you left for me?

Only this gun

You ordered me to polish it each year

You wanted Tsung-pao to pick up where you left off

We did everything you wanted

Master, protect young master and the ladies

Especially young mistress

And may she have a child early

I'll burn more joss paper for you

Brother and his wife head the team protecting the Princess

We must do well for them, understand?

We risk our lives but she gets the credit

Never can outshine her

Be doubly alert

Can't lose face in front of her

Need the toilet?

Yeah, let's go

Protect the princess

This way

Get in quickly

Get out now, or I'll kill you

What's it?

Calling Mina

What is it?

The terrorists have captured the princess

They left in a brown car, No. BR1136

What are you doing?

I'm CID. Follow that brown car!

That's no way to drive

Reverse quickly

I'm CID, may I use your car?

Stop!

Heroes, this way for an interview

I'm late

Brother, what's wrong? You're so late

Shut up

They brought us here as decorative pieces

Keep up with the good work//Yes

Good luck//Thank you

Godbrother, though I look out for you

You need to catch up with your wife

There's no distinction between a man and a wife

That's your way of thinking only. But she…

Give this to your sister-in-law

Excuse me

Ling

Yes?

I hate you and myself for lagging

Oh, but we played a part in this

Right, we all had a hand in the operation

But Supt Liu and sister-in-law got all the credit

She got a promotion

Nothing for us

Don't you know we nearly lost our lives?

She's going to outrank you. Not that I mind

But I feel sorry for you

You know me well

I hate fighting for credit or showing off

and don't care about what others say

That's why I've always idolized you

But as a man

you shouldn't let your wife outrank you

As a student, you wanted me to be class monitor

and be your superior when we started working

Have I ever let you down?

I'm a man

Darling, if the world should end in 5 minutes

What would you do besides wash your face?

What would you do then?

Make love with you, of course

What if it should end in 4 minutes?

Don't you look down on me

You're almost finished, aren't you?

Me, almost finished?

Go brush your teeth

Darling, did people not make love

before toothbrushes were invented?

They didn't call it "make love" then

They called it "a passionate session"

Or to put it more civilly, "performing the rites"

Darling, whatever it’s called

We need to start the action now

To make the most of it

let's do away with protection

I'm impatient

We had an agreement

No kids before I made Superintendent

Darling, I'm the only son of the Huangs

Mother is anxious that I continue the family line…

I'd like to, as well

But I have to stick to my principles, right?

If your little brother there won't take protection,

let him sleep quietly then

Think it over

I poke…

I need you continuing the family lineage

Come back

Hurry up

Hurry up

Ying, is it all fixed?

Yes, brother

Go to Bird Market to rent guns tomorrow

No one will find out if you return before roll call

Brother, a visitor for you

It's been a long time, comrade

Comrade, where are the goods?

Ready. Show them the stuff//Yes

You use guns more than you do chopsticks

You know it's top grade. Where's the money?

This isn't Vietnam. Guns aren't cheap here

You can't take that many for so little cash

Comrade, we agreed on the price

We didn't sign a contract

You work on big deals. What about us?

Don't speak Vietnamese in my presence

My brother says we split 50-50 after the job

Our party says:

once disloyal, always out

Well, make up the right amount first

There's a saying with us Vietnamese too

Whoever acts dies first

Don't rent out the guns to others

The consequences will be dire

Don't try anything foolish, comrade

Tell your men to stand back,

or I'll finish you off with one shot

Don't!

Go//Calm down

Not my fault, don't kill me!

Vietnamese did the Bird Market job

two days ago

They grabbed some guns

intending to rob the Singapore Cabaret

I've decided to get eight female colleagues

including myself to play dance hostesses

Good idea. I'm putting you in charge

Hope you get another promotion

Thank you, sir

Get me some more coffee

You forgot I don't take sugar

You also forgot I'm married

I'm not optimistic about your marriage

You don't?

Sir, don't pull rank on me

I never regret my choices

You can never tell

Remember our meeting later

I do

How sweet

I'll taste it some day

This is the Singapore Cabaret's

floor plan Ying stole

This is the cashier's office

All cash is placed inside

Let's snatch it the way we did

the North Vietnam arsenal last time

Wasn't that like guerilla warfare?

Ying will switch off

all lights at midnight

The reserve power won't kick in for 30 seconds

We can explode the safe during that interval

How can we act with the lights off?

These are infrared goggles

With them I can see you

but you can't see me

Well, pack up. Rest a while

Brother, even if we get the money,

we'll still be repatriated

Repatriated? I'll finish off anyone who tries

I'll fight mandatory repatriation

by the HK Govt

At worse we fight one more civil war

We've brought you here for a special case

Our investigations show that

some Vietnamese may rob the Singapore Cabaret

They're likely to act in the next few days

Please play dance hostesses for the case

What? To be dance hostesses?

Remember that because of this special mission

You may be caught in embarrassing situations

Or even get bullied

So the mission is not compulsory

It's a voluntary assignment

With Inspector Huang as our leader, we'll make it

Inspector Kao is in charge of this operation

May I ask you a few questions

before I make my decision?

Sure

If some guests should paw us, or

forcibly kiss us,

what should we do?

It's a classy joint.

This won't happen

What if they want

to take us to a motel?

You can refuse

What if he was a likely suspect?

Wouldn't we lose a lead?

You've been in for years,

you should know what to do

Try to endure so far as possible

We won't blame you if you had to blow your cover

in unbearable circumstances

What's the limit?

I can bear a man's caress

or kiss

but to what extent

would you put up with it, Insp Kao?

Huang Chia-ling,

are you challenging the Inspector with that question?

I don't think that is her intention

This is an important mission

I'm not sure I can lead people not loyal to me

to complete this mission

Let Insp Huang take charge of it

Two heads are better than one

You'll both take charge of this case

Huang Chia-ling,

satisfied now?

No

We can't have two superiors for one operation

If things go wrong, to whom shall I report?

True, there could be confusion

if there was a difference in opinion

Right, it could be disastrous

What a dilemma!

Those of you

who objected are

from the Huang family

I can see you are not united

You can't succeed without unity

Huang Chia-ling, Chia-ju, Chia-jui

If you think Insp Kao and I

can't lead you

you may refrain

from taking part in this operation

Sorry sir, sorry madam

Forget what I said

I'm ready to accept your command

Me, too

I didn't say I wouldn't participate

A beautiful but stupid girl

is the best

One that's ugly

but smart is worst

It's OK, you each have your strong points

you'll be all right

Boss, you're OK,

but your hands are evil

Right, I was born with evil hands

Do me a favor by grasping them

to stop them from embarrassing me

Miss, he's holding your hands,

not your chest

Miss, you're too sensitive

I'll hold her hand, while staring at you

That's equally effective

If you enjoy it, why not touch your own?

You said it. Michael, let's show her

Well, let's all feel ourselves

If you enjoy it, sir,

take me out and we'll do it

That's a nice suggestion

Boss,

you'd better take an aphrodisiac

Darling, what do you want me for?

Darling, any new discovery?

Everything normal

Nothing new after two days

Be patient and watch for a few more days

OK, bye-bye

Welcome. What's your name, sir?

We're all Chens

Where do you come from?

None of your business

Some Vietnamese speaking men are coming up

Watch them

Over

Welcome

This way, please

Lily, let me

I'll bring the hostess

Give us a kiss

I'll shoot it off

you won't get to use it again ever

A policewoman? Don't shoot

Get out with all your bloody friends, bastards

Ling, a guest for you

Get out!

Madam, we mustn't blow our cover

What's so special with Madam?

What happened, sir?

Look, I'm here to dance, not to be grilled

Let's dance

Come on

Why not go and dance, sir?

I want to be alone. Please tell her to go out

Miss, please

Madam

Yes?

I discovered some Vietnamese in Room V8

Anything suspicious?

I heard they say

"…it's nearly midnight"

Notify all units to stand by

Yes, madam

Attention, all units, stand by for action

Affirmative

Affirmative

Affirmative

Don't try anything foolish, I guarantee your safety

You, too, I guarantee your safety too

I'm safe, I need no guarantee

Look at her bosom

Keep down!

Stay where you are!

Stay where you are!

Know the difference between

these four reports and yours?

No

Let me tell you then

You wrongly protected your sister-in-law Huang Chia-ling

She blew her cover out of impulse

This foiled our mission

and caused unnecessary casualties

She might've done wrong, but she did her duty

What? The police must use their brains

We're not laborers

But…

Enough. Sign this

You want her to quit?

You expect me to give her a medal?

Sign it

No

It's up to you.

I can have Huang Tsung-pao sign it

He was in charge too

Discord in the family, either way

The decision is yours

Sir, today's my mother's birthday

Can you give this to her tomorrow?

Okay

Thank you, sir

Tell Huang Chia-ling to come to see me at once

Ling, what happened?

You did a fine thing

Don't disparage me because you're superior

Others may not know

You saw how I risked my life

And you suspend me?

I never expected you to take care of me

I want nothing but justice

All I want is recognition of my work

But you make things hard for me

Are you afraid I may outsmart you?

Are you jealous of my accomplishment?

Well, have it your way

Ling, don't!

Bring Inspector Huang at once

Get out of my way!

What are you doing?

Sorry, can you all go?

Let's go Sorry

What's going on between you two?

I'm quitting, okay?

You know many watched

you quarrel?

Good. Now they know

I got promoted to Inspector

not because of the pull of my relatives

My sister-in-law wants nothing

but to ruin me

Tell Ling to leave

I want to be alone awhile

Don't use my brother to pressure me

You've been trying to sow discord between us

and to see us quarrel

What've you given to the Huangs since the marriage?

Luckily you haven't brought the Huangs any children

So we won't have half-breeds as our descendants

Ling, what did you say?

I said your wife is a half-breed

Don’t you dare say that again!

Half-breed!

Mina

I'll smack you …

You've never done that to me

Now you do it because of this half-breed?

Come on, do it

Try to think if I've punished you wrongly

Mina

Don't cry

What's there to see?

Back to work. Don't cry

Godbrother is here

Wipe away your tears

Today's mum's birthday. Don't cry

Go home early to change

I'll have a drink with you tonight

Let's set aside the unpleasant things

All right

Give this to mother

You buy the present each year

She'll be happier if you give it to her direct

I must make your whole family happy

Right

Sorry

Give it to her yourself this year

OK. Don't cry

Let's go home early

Let's go

Inspector Kao

What is it?

Want to have news of those Vietnamese?

Come to Wu Kau Tang garden at once

Madam, Huang Chia-ling

took a call in your room just now

Who from?

About those Vietnamese

Run the tape

Inspector Kao

What is it?

Want to have news of those Vietnamese?

Come to Wu Kau Tang garden at once

Inspector Kao

This is she

Did you call with news of those Vietnamese?

Yes

Ling's car

Mina, come in and have a look

You're not Inspector Kao

How do you know without looking at me?

Inspector Kao's behind you

Ling, it's dangerous to be here alone

Can you not be so impulsive?

I'm impulsive, so what?

Mind your own business

I'll break this case myself

I'll arrest you for obstruction

Go back with me

Ling

Ling

Tsung-pao

Brother

Brother

Tsung-pao

Tsung-pao Brother

Tsung-pao Brother

Brother

Ling Brother

Brother

Ling

Brother

Miss Huang, it's 9.45

Can we start serving?

Not yet

My brother and his wife are not yet here

Are you rushing us?

How dare I with so many officers here?

But we still have to prepare for the morning business

Don't obstruct them from getting rest

Don't wait, serve now

Help yourself, please

Let's give mother a Happy Birthday song

Okay, 1, 2, 3

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to you

Sister-in-law, are you all right?

Yes

We won't tell mother about your brother tonight

I know

Let's go in

Sister-in-law and sister are here

Why so late?

Where have you been?

We wanted to wait for you

But they were rushing us

It’s OK

Mother … You just got here?

We wish you a happy birthday

Many, many happy returns

May your wish be fulfilled

Here, lucky money

Thank you

Get up

Mother, you're biased

See what it is?

Gold and jade leaves

To the family

it's fertility

As you put it, your mother has been lucky

Mother yearns for a grandchild

Children? Keep it for yourself

Where's Tsung-pao? Can't some back yet?

The food's getting cold. Let's eat first

Tsung-pao will return soon, let's eat first

Sit down

Sit down

Wait, I'm coming

Mother, your favorite meat

Take the knuckle while brother's not here to vie for it

Here's a pig's trotter for you

I won't take it

No?

You used to fight over it with brother

I'll take it

We knew you wouldn't be a widow

Brother, let me teach her a lesson for you

Wait, a slip of the tongue

Keep a knuckle for brother

The son always gets the lion's share

Daughter-in-law, bring a plate

Ling, been busy in the police station?

Not really

No? Why so late then?

Mother, a policeman is always busy

Enforcing the law is an important job

Right

Why hasn't he call us?

He doesn't care about me

Mother, Tsung-pao told me to bring you this

See what it is. Guess?

A jade pendant. That's precious

Let me help you

When I get married, I can spend my husband's money

to buy you an expensive gift

That's not right

You should be loyal to your husband like your sister-in-law

and be considerate to him

If I could marry someone as good as brother

I'd be as happy then

Is sister-in-law lucky?

She's lucky to be married to brother

Shut up

How come you're taking her side today?

Let me toast you//Thanks

Tsung-pao not yet here?

I'd like to drink with him

Sister-in-law can drink for him in his absence

Sister-in-law, let me pour it for you

Don't dare drink with her, uncle?

Okay, cheers!

Uncle, I'll drink with you for sister-in-law

I have no choice then

This is a toast to Tsung-pao

You must drink it anyway

Sister-in-law, let me pour it for you

Don't worry. Drink it with uncle

Right, toast uncle on behalf of Tsung-pao

Uncle, I drink to you on behalf of Tsung-pao

I've entertained angels unawares

Madam Huang

The Huang heroines are terrific

Thank you. You've been taking much care of them these years

If Mr. Huang hadn't taken care of me then

I wouldn't be where I am

I've had enough

Be happy and have one more drink

Are you all right?

Do you need to rinse your face?

Let me help you

What's wrong? Drunk?

Ling, are you all right?

Cheers

Cheers

Here's the news. At 5 p.m. today

a senior inspector was assaulted and killed

in Wu Kau Tang garden

The deceased died when struck

by several hard objects

Police suspect Vietnamese did it

Police are appealing for information from

anyone who witnessed the murder

Please get in contact with the police immediately

The slain police officer was Huang Tsung-pao,

aged 33

8 years in service, know for loyalty

Police are offering a reward for the arrest of the killer

Mother

Don't cry

Mother

One must be prepared for such things

Raise your head for Tsung-pao and walk out

I know, mother

Don't cry

Mother

Daughter-in-law

Ladies & gentlemen,

let me toast you for mother

Tsung-pao, never thought you'd die on my birthday

This is a toast from me

May your soul in Heaven protect us

Tsung-pao

You mustn't go there

Old people are not supposed to send off the young

A bomb

Sister-in-law

Sister-in-law

Sister-in-law

Who's Mina Kao's next of kin, please?

I am. How's her condition?

She's in critical condition

and needs surgery

But she's pregnant

Anaesthesia may affect the child

but if we don't use it

she only has a 50-50 chance

Doctor,

preserve the life of the adult first

I can stand it

Save the child for me

Brother, we're wanted by the police

It won't pay to go on fighting

Brother, take my advice and go into hiding

When the chance comes, we can return

I've made contact with Uncle for you

to arrange a ship to smuggle you to Panama

How are you, Mina?

Liu, be careful about the germs

It's not a contagious disease

What should I be afraid of?

You may contaminate her

Who knows if you are clean?

Excuse me

Aunt

Don't be sad. Time will heal your wounds

Thank you

Don't mention it

This medal has been given to you

It's called "Family of Police"

What good is it?

Even my only son has died

He died a hero

you should be proud of him

Liu, you sound contradictory

You've lucky to have a descendant

Plus a godson

Supt Liu…

Mina, try not to speak, you're wounded

Take a good rest here

You don't have to worry about the Vietnamese case

Mother Godbrother Supt Liu

Well, while you're all here,

let me tell you

that I've given you one month's annual leave

At this crucial moment, sir?

What do you want to wait for? Death anniversary?

Save that for yourself

Ju, I know how you feel now

But remember,

respect your superior

My brother died working on this case

Sir, don't give us any leave

Shut up

You think you're the Police Commissioner?

Take the leave

I'm now in sole charge of the Vietnamese case

Who dares to say "no" to what I order?

Sir, his late father had looked after you

let them take the leave only

after solving this case

Let the dead rest in peace

Had you kept quiet, I'd have considered it

Now I can see you may avenge a personal grudge

Frankly, they're now mentally unfit for this case

They could easily run into snags

And if fate wills it,

they may all get killed

Damn you!

You dare hit me?!

Listen, I'm your superior

I could suspend you for life for violence

Creep, had my godfather not looked after you then,

you wouldn't be where you are now

Forget the past, it's now 1990

You were three ranks higher than me

But now we're equal in rank

I'd be damned if I don't hit you

Don't, you're a senior police officer

You may lose your pension as a result

I'm nothing

I'm only an ordinary housewife

Arrest me for assaulting a police officer

Amah, show him the door

Please, sir

That won't be necessary. I won't blame you

If I were in your shoes,

I'd have reacted likewise

Mina, take a good rest

I never imagined I would get suspended

I know you've been put on the spot

But Liu has to be in charge

Just think of another way

According to a tip-off, those Vietnamese are planning to leave HK

Let's round them all up

Understand?

We've got a tip-off that

they may be at Tuen Mun Pier 6 a.m. tomorrow

Let’s get men down there to arrest them

Remember, keep this strictly confidential

None of you must leak anything out

Aren't you afraid of losing your jobs?

Don't say that, we're all brothers

Let me return to the police station first

I must leave now

Godmother, those Vietnamese are leaving HK at Tuen Mun Pier

at 6 a.m. tomorrow

Don't let slip this opportunity

Right, we must move faster than Liu to stop them

Good, let's meet at the pier at 5 a.m. tomorrow

Tsung-pao, I don't want to be the curse of your family

Will your spirit help me?

They're embarking

Boatman, follow the ship in front

OK

Hua, you've changed your mind quickly

You said 6 but came at 4

Last time you made the arrangement

for us to leave Vietnam too

You told us to embark at 6

Had I not been smart enough to get there at 4

I'd be in the Concentration Camp

Is the boat OK?

Don't worry. This ship contains nothing but smuggled goods

If he betrays us, he'll be in trouble too

Tell the men to go off

Let's go

Captain, these are the men

Hua, this is the Captain

He is Yuan Hua

Thank you for the trouble

Don't mention it. Follow me

Hurry

Captain

Stay here now

Come out only when we reach the high seas

Brother, take this gun just in case

The ship will be safe once in high seas

Take care of yourself. I must leave now.

Embark

Come on

Ling's car

Boatman, have you seen two women?

Yes, they've boarded that ship

Captain, trouble. Bring some men down quickly

Ling

Ling

Stop, all of you!

Drop your arms

Go over

Go over

Mina, you can't answer to the police if you kill him

Don't try anything foolish

Morning exercise so early?

Take care.

There are animals around

Careful you don't catch a cold

I don't mind, I'm here to catch animals

I must bear with it

This is the duty of the police

You're too old. Go home and rest

Supt Liu has escorted a prisoner back

Wonder if you're retiring or I am?

Ling

You broke the law deliberately

I arrest you in the name of the Royal HK police

Handcuff him

Yes, sir

Ling

Keep away.

or I'll finish her off. Get away

No need to

Don't, at worst it's a life for a life

I'll swap her life for yours

Capture him!

Tell them to keep away

Keep away!

Keep away, or I'll kill her

Go ahead. Kill her like you killed my son

I don't mind losing one more daughter

You're damned if you don't kill her

I won't rest if I don't kill you

Come on. Have you no guts?

Keep away! Kill, come on

Mother

Mother

Keep away!

Supt Liu

Follow him

Mother

I'm all right, don't cry

Come on

Come on
