[Episode 21]

Beat him!

[Princess of Valor's Mansion]

Isn't he Young Master Han?

Stop!

Your Highness, this brat has no sense of shame!

How dare he show up at the front door of the Princess of Valor's mansion?!

Today, he must be taught a good lesson!

What are you doing here?

Your Highness, please save Third Miss.

Han Shiyuan, I gave you the chance, but you did not cherish it.

Now,

what will you use to plead with me?

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

As long as you are willing to save Third Miss, my life is yours.

From now on, whatever you ask me to do, I will never say no.

You dare to keep pestering Her Highness?

Enough!

You really are quite the romantic, aren’t you?

You'd risk your life for her.

Unfortunately, I wasn't the one who poisoned Third Miss.

I do not know how to save her either.

If you want to die with her,

then go die far away.

Don’t sully my eyes here!

Madam Yang, throw him back to the Yan Mansion.

Do not let him die here.

Yes.

Your Highness.

Your Highness!

Prince Xian, Yan Kuo is as timid as a mouse and is incapable of shouldering heavy responsibilities.

But his daughters can't be underestimated.

This time, Third Miss Yan has been poisoned.

I wonder if it was done by the Princess of Valor or Chen Huo'e.

If Third Miss Yan really dies from the poison,

I think the Princess of Valor won't be able to explain her relationship with Chen Huo'e.

In fact, it doesn't matter whether it was done by the Princess of Valor.

Shen Du will surely be on our side for his sister-in-law.

Even if Shen Du remains foolish and refuses to be on our side,

then the Princess of Valor will also not trust him anymore.

Sir,

how many things have you done behind my back over these years?

Your Highness, I know you are kind-hearted.

But to achieve great things, one must not be bound by trivial matters and must be ruthless sometimes.

You were born into the royal family,

you surely cannot escape from the schemes for power.

Even the Empress Dowager took steps cautiously to stay where she is now.

Crown Prince's death that year was mysterious and unclear.

- And the young emperor… - Impudent!

I misspoke!

But my loyalty to Your Highness is as clear as the sun and sky.

Sir, over these years, you have been devoted to protecting me.

Every single thing you have done has been to pave the way for me.

I am well aware of it.

But I truly don't want to see in-fighting and conflict within the family.

If it has to go this way, then I don't want to be the Prince Regent.

Prince Xian.

You must never have such thoughts.

You are the Prince Xian of the current reign.

In the future, you are destined to be the Great Cang's Prince Regent.

Every single thing that I have done

has been for you, Prince Xian.

How foolish!

How foolish!

Sir,

is power truly something people should be so captivated by?

[Chief's Office]

Great Chief.

Are you worried about Madam?

Nonsense.

Yes, it's my nonsense.

However, I might know

why Madam toiled all night at the Ministry of Justice yesterday.

Yan Mojie came for me yesterday.

He asked me to help him look through the family's records.

I heard the poison that Third Miss Yan got

is Huo'e Sect's "Butterfly out of Cocoons."

"Butterfly out of Cocoons?"

Yes, everyone in the Yan Mansion has been thrown into chaos these past two days.

It's indeed because of this.

The Yan Mansion has been thrown into chaos?

Why haven't I heard a word about it?

Perhaps Madam doesn't want to trouble you?

Even Yan Mojie knows to get your help when there's trouble.

How could she not know whom to seek help from?

Then she might have her own connections.

Today, I heard Madam went to the palace to look for the imperial physician.

I heard she also showed them an antidote prescription from the Imperial Inspectorate.

It's said to have come from a confession from Chen Huo'e's interrogation.

The Imperial Inspectorate?

Chen Huo'e.

I have already inquired with that imperial physician.

He said that the antidote is likely genuine.

It's just that there's a very deadly ingredient in this antidote.

What is it?

It's the heart's blood of the mirror-image person!

[Lai Mansion]

Anyone? No one here in the Lai Mansion?

Great Chief, I think this Lai Luozhi is doing something mysterious again.

Since it is so, don't be anxious.

Stay here. I'll take a look at the back.

- Great Chief. - Don't worry.

Vice Minister Lai, you set up such a complicated setup,

isn't it just to lure me here?

What? I am here now, yet you are hiding.

This is unlike your usual style in the royal court.

Sorry to disturb you. I am sorry.

Great Chief, it's your first visit to my mansion, and yet you chased after the women of my family in the backyard.

If word gets out, it would be another joke.

Vice Minister Lai, put away these intimidating things.

These little tricks of course can't impress you.

However, Great Chief, you've trespassed into my mansion today.

I think you owe me an explanation.

If I didn't come,

would you give me the heart's blood of the mirror-image person?

What do you mean?

You intentionally poisoned Third Miss Yan, and let Yan Xing obtain the prescription.

Naturally, you have the heart's blood of Chen Huo'e...

for an exchange.

What you said is merely your speculation.

I don’t acknowledge a single word.

However, I happen

to have a vial of the heart's blood of the mirror-image person.

Great Chief, don't.

What? Do you find the water dirty in my mansion?

Or are you worried it's poisoned?

I have always respected you.

Great Chief, you've made a big fuss and come with the imperial guards to my mansion.

If you cannot leave today, or after leaving you're found to be poisoned,

it'd be hard for me to explain to the Empress Dowager.

Where is the heart's blood of the mirror-image person?

Right in this teacup.

You tricked Great Chief into drinking it?

You've sealed the heart's blood of the mirror-image person in this teacup?

I specially found a skilled artisan from Xichen

to make this teacup of heart's blood.

Actually, the thing you're looking for has always been right in front of you.

Yet you are so wary of me, you didn't even dare to drink a sip of tea.

In fact, I am not that unworthy of trust.

Right?

In this world, the heart's blood of the mirror-image person is really hard to find.

And this teacup is ingeniously crafted.

Naturally, it won't be for free.

Vice Minister Lai, you have set up such a big trap to lure me here.

Just tell me what you want.

It's soothing to talk to a clever person.

In fact, I don't want anything.

Great Chief, just remember this favor of mine.

In the future, you have to repay it doubly.

Then there's no other way.

Let's see if you really love your wife so deeply,

that even your wife's sister is willing to gamble on an unknown promise to save her.

I…

will take note of it.

Great Chief, I won't see you out.

[Lai Luofu]

I don't understand why you went through all this trouble.

First poisoning, then providing an antidote,

even asking me to show my face in front of Shen Du.

What do you want to do?

[Guangyue Wine House]

You don't need to know.

I don't need to know?

Hasn't my family done enough for your big ambitions?

Now,

I don't even have the right to know.

I'm sorry, Older Sister!

I was just anxious. How could I not know your suffering?

Everything I've done is all about letting all of us get what we deserve.

Poisoning Third Miss Yan can arouse the suspicion of Prince Xian,

the Princess of Valor, and the Imperial Guards.

This goal has already been achieved.

As for Shen Du, he is the most difficult to deal with.

The Imperial Guards and the Shen Mansion are both sealed up tight.

The spies I arranged have all been kicked out.

Shen Du is on Prince Xian's side?

No. Shen Du has always been neutral in the court.

Neither siding with Prince Xian, nor favoring the Princess of Valor.

And we don't deal with each other either.

The more cautiously he maintains neutral,

the more the Empress Dowager trusts him,

and the worse it is for what we're trying to do.

Then why not simply kill him? Or make a direct request to him?

The unknown promise is the scariest.

I want to make him feel uneasy,

fearful, and hesitant.

Wait for the fear to take root in him,

one day, I can make him play a role..

greater than dying.

Sixth Miss!

Sixth Miss, all the medicinal herbs have been prepared.

Only the heart's blood of the mirror-image person is missing.

But over at Prime Minister Zhang's side, your father met with some setbacks.

And over at Princess Yong'an's side, Shiyuan also got beaten.

I truly have run out of options.

I beg you! I beg you please think of another way!

- Madam, what are you doing? - Mother.

Aren't you putting pressure on our Sixth Miss?

She's already trying to find a solution and getting tired like this.

What else can she do now?

There is...

There is... Great Chief!

Shut up!

Why should I shut up?

White Ghost killed that Chen Huo'e.

Now the retribution has fallen upon my daughter.

Why can't I just beg for White Ghost and ask him to think of a solution?

Even if Caiwei was once in the wrong against him,

but anyway, now she is also his sister-in-law.

- Mother. - Right. Sorry, I'm late.

- Great Chief! - No need for courtesy!

This is the antidote. The heart's blood of the mirror-image person is in this teacup.

Thank you for saving her life, Great Chief Shen!

Please rise.

Sixth Miss is my wife.

The matters of the Yan household are my responsibility as well.

The antidote is urgent.

- Thank you, Great Chief. Thank you, Great Chief. - I'll go and use it for the medicine now.

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!

Caiwei can be saved now. Caiwei can be saved now.

Come on.

Sixth Miss,

when will I be the first person you turn to when you need help?

♫ I have waited until time bloomed into flowers ♫

♫ The ice and snow slowly melting ♫

♫ I hear those gentle words ♫

Sixth Miss!

♫ The flower in the mirror, the moon in the water, present in my dreams ♫

♫ It’s not illusory glamor ♫

It's fine now.

♫ Chasing time, riding a white horse ♫

♫ Let's go together ♫

♫ Love is pure and originally flawless ♫

♫ Let the vast universe change ♫

♫ Let's spend our time together ♫

Is what Lai Luozhi said reliable?

Does the heart's blood he gave really work?

Don't trust anyone completely.

Shen Du, I have something to tell you.

If I don't tell you now, I'm afraid I won't get another chance.

Do you know why Prime Minister Zhang insisted on

having the daughter of the Yan family marry you?

Prime Minister Zhang threatened my father and the whole family to settle this marriage.

It was supposed to be Third Miss marrying you.

Later on, I married you for her.

But Prime Minister Zhang still wanted me to find a way

to be his and Prince Xian's informant in the Shen Mansion.

But I really never helped Prince Xian do anything to harm you.

I know.

I trust you would not harm me.

You know?

Do you really trust me?

Sixth Miss.

Since you have never done anything to harm me, there's no need to feel guilty.

If there's anything that causes doubts in the future,

come and ask me directly. All right?

What are you doing?

Spit it out. Spit it out!

Spit it out.

- Hurry! - You can test the medicine for your Third Sister,

so I can naturally do it for you.

Who asked you to do it for me?

You…

I will use internal breath to spread the medicine throughout my body.

If I'm fine after a while, then your Third Sister can take the medicine.

Why are you so foolish?

I should test the medicine for Third Sister as her sister.

What's wrong with you? Do you feel any discomfort?

You've just recovered from your injury. How could you take such a risk?

Do you feel any discomfort now? Any part of you making you feel unwell?

Do you feel any discomfort?

Tell me.

I'm really fine!

Since Lai Luozhi deliberately lured me over,

the thing he gave me should be genuine.

But he just didn't expect I'd try it myself.

Otherwise, he might have put something lethal in it.

It hurts.

It hurts.

Let me see.

I wasn't poisoned to death,

but I was beaten to death.

The medicine is fine. Hurry up and bring it to Third Sister. Hurry!

Here's the medicine.

Hurry! Hurry!

Don't worry. She'll wake up soon.

It has already been two hours.

Mother.

Caiwei, are you awake?

- Mother! - Third Sister, are you awake?

Sixth Miss!

Father.

Where is Young Master Han?

Third Miss!

Young Master Han, what happened to you?

Father! Father! The Princess of Valor has sent a gift box and an invitation.

Princess of Valor? Read it.

"I've heard that Young Master Han and Third Miss Yan are very much in love

and would never abandon each other in life or death.

This love is so ardent!

Like the blossoming Tangdi flowers, it moves me deeply and makes me envious.

I wish to fulfill this love with the highest intent.

As such strong feelings defy even the will of heaven,

Thus, I specially bestow a precious jade ruyi, hoping you a good marriage forever!" ("Ruyi" means "as you wish". It is a ceremonial scepter symbolizing power, good fortune, and prosperity.)

It seems the Princess of Valor

won't entangle herself with Young Master Han anymore, and will let you be together.

Sixth Miss.

Do you feel unwell?

No.

Why would Lai Luozhi do so?

Poisoning and then offering the antidote.

Why go around in such a roundabout way? What's the purpose behind it?

Perhaps his target is not your third sister,

but me.

He set a trap to make you owe him a favor?

What did he threaten you with? What did you promise him?

Don't worry, it's fine.

But your third sister...

has suffered this for nothing.

So the pursuit of justice

and the search for the truth

really bring the surrounding family unknown risks.

But the path we choose

is destined to be a tough road, isn't it?

Since we've decided, I won't regret it.

We must follow our hearts and give it our all to protect the people around us.

♫ One look confirmed our fate ♫

♫ Upon meeting again, I know you're the one for me ♫

♫ Gazing at the stars, dreaming about old times ♫

Sixth Miss.

♫ Lovers before the candlelight, do not ask their thoughts ♫

From now on, focus on doing what you think is right.

I will protect you and your family.

Shen Du.

♫ Autumn moon and spring breeze, I only want you for my whole life ♫

♫ The trace of your palm ♫

♫ Your gaze ♫

♫ Our love is heating up ♫

♫ You are the only one for me ♫

Great Chief.

What's the matter?

Do we escort Madam back home or go to the Imperial Guards?

- Shen Mansion. - Yes.

Just now,

what did you want to ask me?

N-Nothing.

Shen Du, you protect me,

help me, and support me.

In your heart,

what do you think of me?

You…

You can rest early. I have to review books.

Review books?

The examination for the female officials is approaching.

I've pledged before the Grand Empress Dowager and Madam Xu

that I will participate in the examination as a Senior Clerk.

If I fail, I won't even qualify to be a clerk.

Now that Third Sister's poison has been cured,

and the Chen Huo'e case has been settled,

it's a good time to review and study all night now.

So you moved all that stuff in and out tonight

just to borrow my light to study?

That's right! Don’t you love brightness? I can save several lamps this way.

Then, I wish you success in your exams and may your wishes be fulfilled!

Thank you for your kind words!

It's rare for you to ask to meet me. What's wrong?

Well, thank you.

Third Miss Yan's poison has been resolved.

The prescription you gave me is genuine.

Of course, the prescription I gave you couldn't be fake.

I never lied to you.

You did…

All right, I'm the one who's been calling you Masked Man.

You didn't really lie to me.

Anyway, thank you.

Thank you?

That's it?

I'm afraid it's not enough.

Then what do you want?

You shouldn't ask me that.

You should be the one to think carefully about how you should thank me.

Lu Chuichui! Lu Chuichui!

I'm here.

Chuichui.

Chuichui! Chuichui, what's wrong?

Stickler!

I…

He…

I thought…

I thought…

What happened?

Nothing. My feet are numb.

Your feet are numb? I was worried about you.

I thought something serious had happened to you.

Stickler! Stickler!

Can you take me home?

Come on, take it slow.

What are you doing?

Didn't you say your feet are numb? I'll carry you.

Stickler.

Well, if there is someone who is extremely cruel

and hated by everyone, but occasionally he also shows kindness

and helps others, is he a good person?

Is he worth making friends with?

You choose your friends by yourself.

You only need to ask your heart, not others.

If you think that person is a friend

and he is a good person, he will not hurt you.

Then he is worth making friends with.

Only ask my heart, not others?

[Shen Mansion]

Chi,

when you receive this letter, I am probably already participating

in the examination for the female officials of the Six Ministries.

This time, I have truly burned my boats,

staking my future as a female official of the Ministry of Justice.

I will not betray the trust that the Grand Empress Dowager and Madam Xu have placed in me.

Nor will I let down the help he has given me.

[First Rank]

[Yan Xing]

[Rank List]

Oh my, Sixth Miss! You rank at the top!

My Sixth Miss ranks first!

Oh my! That's wonderful, Sixth Miss!

You've finally been promoted to a Chief Clerk of the Ministry of Justice.

I’m about to have an eighth-rank friend to look after me!

What about you?

Me? I don't care.

After all, I have an eighth-rank friend. I don't care if I fail.

- I'm so happy! - Chuichui! Chuichui!

You've made the list.

This time, I don't need to spend money to hire a teacher for you.

You are on the list entirely because of your knowledge!

Although you came last on the list, I am happy for you. [Second Rank, Thirtieth Place]

[Lu Chuichui] My precious girl!

Great Chief, Madam has been promoted to Chief Clerk of the Ministry of Justice.

Her official rank is now higher than mine.

Not convinced?

Not at all, I’m completely convinced!

Let's go!

Father, the transfer order makes no mention of the Yan family!

Did you look carefully?

I've checked line by line carefully.

In the transfer order personally signed by Prime Minister Zhang,

among the officials sent to the desert frontier, there is no Yan family.

Great! Thanks heavens!

My Yan family has finally escaped a disaster. Great!

Sixth Miss, today, our Yan family is truly experiencing double happiness!

Double happiness indeed!

Let’s have a nice dinner tonight!

- Good! - Good!

Mother!
